Virginia Cottage Hotel

my husband and i booked up to stay for our anniversary weekend and we weren't disappointed... we were given room 12, the decor and space were just fine, bathroom a little small but for the amount of time your in it , it was just right! the staff were friendly and helpful and there when needed without being in your face. The b&b itself is perfectly placed its not even a 5 min walk to the lake and is close enough to the town that your right on the doorstep to restaurants and pubs without being too close!! We have just had a weekend 2 night break and were really happy with the hotel,The location is perfect as it is only a stones throw from the lake at Bowness bay. Situated next to a pub which serves good meals and although right next to the road we had no problems with noise. The rooms were a good size and the spa bath was welcome after a long walk. We have just experienced a long weekend at Virigina Cottage and felt it was the little touches that made it different. When we arrived there was a glass of wine each in the room which were small and quaint but exceptionally clean and had everything you required. The spa bath was a treat in itself albeit in the compact bathroom. Breakfast was excellent and not once did we feel uncomfortable all weekend. I visited this hotel before I knew about tripadvisor! We were double booked, despite booking well in advance, we then had to call round a host of B&Bs and found to availability. Virginia Cottage eventually found us a B&B opposite them, The Field House Guest House, and there is no wonder it wasn't full! We felt like an intruder in their home! Having had a pleasant stay in the Virginia cottage last year, I had emailed to make a reservation, I had received a reply telling me that they had availability and giving me the price. I then decided to ring to confirm the booking, a lady answered the phone, and when I explained I had emailed an availability request, she told me to hold, and then proceeded to have a conversation with someone else about the inconvenience of a one night booking, and she referred to me (the customer) as "them" in quite a disrespectful manner. We stayed at the Virginia Cottage for 2 nights in early October 2007. We returned to the Lakes for a couple of days walking. Virginia Cottage is ideally located in the centre of Bowness, just off the main street, so easy access to shops / restaurants / lake etc. The free parking is a few metres up the road at another hotel. We have just stayed for 2 nights here and the location is excellent as it's 5 mins walk to the shops/restaurants and offers free parking at a nearby hotel. It is homely but with all modern conveniences at a very reasonable £30 pppn. The owners were professional and friendly. There were lots of nice touches: tea/coffee/ homemade fairy cakes in the lounge every day, fluffy towels, choice of breakfast and at the request of my husband they arranged for some roses to be in the room when we checked in. We stayed at the Virginia Cottage at the end of Aug for 3 nights, it was my boyfriends brithday so I took advantage of the offer to get a birthday cake & balloons for our arrival, which was great and very tasty!! The staff & owners were very helpful and welcoming. The rooms were very clean, tidy and very confortable. Overall we has an excellent time and would not hesitate to reccommend friends and family to stay at the Virginia Cottage. We certainly will stay again!

We liked the description and rate, so we booked two nights. We arrived by bus from Windermere. It was a short, uphill walk (about 10-minutes). We were greeted by the two hard-working owners and brought right to room number 2. It’s charming cottage (shabby chic) décor, with descent mattress and sheets, comfy pillows and cozy comforter. A very nice small dog friendly hotel, good breakfast with very helpful and friendly ,but not in your face staff, a clean pleasant room with a super space-aged shower. myself, girlfriend and her dog Dottie all had a very nice time in the lake district and wouldn't hesistate to stay here again.
