Went to 21 the lakes for a nice little weekend break with my boyfriend. Found the staff to be very polite and helpful.
The room was lovely, especially liked the outdoor hot tub and having a television in the bathroom. would definately reccomend this hotel to my family and friends, and want to come back for another weekend break.

We went for my husbands 50th birthday, arrived on Monday 5th Jan and the suite was great , came back from a night out to find no hot water and too late to call anyone. No hot water again in the morning and we were offered the room next door which we found had no hot water.... more

If you're considering this place then think again or be prepared to be sorely disappointed! It's very tired, stale, worn-out & nothing like a real boutique hotel. The rydal suite is tired, tatty and above the boiler room which makes sleeping difficult. However, this room... more

On arrival thought it was a nice place staff very friendly room looked nice but from a distance as you looked closer the finishing detail was very poor. Hole cut out of wall for tv not even straight, wires hanging out of wall for earthing in bathroom was not dangerous but... more

That bit more special!!
We stayed for the first time the week before Christmas '06 for some relaxation and peace and had a fantastic stay. The bedroom was just right, lovely 4 poster bed, big sofa, widescreen TV and DVD player which meant after a long day's walk you had plenty of space in the room to chill out. The icing on the cake was the bathroom with the jacuzzi bath. Ours was massive and was great for a nice long hot soak each day. For those who say this nothing more than a B&B then I'm interested to know which they have stayed in recently, since... more

Very pleasant getaway
My husband and I stayed at 21 The Lakes Hotel on 26th December 2006 for 1 night. We had a lovely time and would definately recommend the hotel. The Room: We stayed in the Premier Room 8 Suite. The room was beautiful, clean and airy. The jacuzzi bath and four poster bed added luxury. The king size bed was very comfortable and the room was a good size. The main reason we booked this room was because of the outside hot tub. It was very private and wonderful after a hard day of exploring the area. We saw some of the other rooms in the... more
Great weekend, highly recommended!!!!
We have just returned from a lovely weekend spent at 21 The Lakes. Having read some bad reviews, we were a little apprehensive about our stay but on arriving our fears were dispelled. The room was lovely, light and private with the added benefit of an open plan spa bath in the room and a hot tub out on the patio. The hotel is in excellent walking distance of Bowness (15 mins) and I would recommend it to anyone wanting a little bit extra for their weekend away.
Fantastic.......
We stayed in the Premier 8 Room on the 6th to 8th November 2006 as a mini honeymoon break. We chose this particular room because of the private hot tub and I have to say we had a fantastic time. The staff on arrival were corteous, friendly and very informative about the local area, we were shown to our room which was down some stairs just behind reception. We found the room to be light, airy, comfortable, clean and tidy. There was a folder on the table with instructions on how to use the spa bath & hot tub safely and also how to... more
Nol stylel, no substance
We stayed there for three nights with our 2 kids. We booked the family suite in the attic which was quirky but more than fit for purpose when we finally got there. however the first night we spent in two seperate basement rooms not an ideal scenario for a 5 and 2 yr old. there had been we were told without apology or any concern for the fact we had booked and had confirmation a "problem" with the booking, (this seems to happen a lot from what I can read in the reviews.) We told to leave our bags packed the following day and they... more

We are surprised by these comments as on checking our bookings we can not trace this around the time suggested. We would never leave luggage in the reception area, even for a short time. All food used is good quality and we do not use hot lamps in the dinng room. All rooms are furnished and decorated to a high standard.

BEWARE Please Read Before You Book
21 The lakes Well!!!! what I can I say, the fact that they take your money in full says it all "Alarm bells" why? because as I discovered you cannot get a refund even when they make such a mess of the booking. I phoned The Hotel prior to my departure they told me the booking was a day earlier than I had booked So we arrived only to discover that they had got it wrong and had to book into another hotel for a night. The next day we booked in and they said they had to couples staying with the same surname "I mean Hulse" is hardly a... more

We are sorry for the genuine misunderstandig, for which we have apologised for, over your booking and are also sorry to see that you did not enjoy your stay with us. It really was a genuine mistake as we did have 2 different bookings under the same name, hense the mistake, one arriving one day earlier than the other. When the mistake was discovered we made every effort to find alternative accommodation for that night and was able to get some in a guest house nearby. We do have large occupancy levels of which the majority of clients are recommended or repeat business. There have been two seperate, independant, editorials in magazines for this suite. One the New Women for the best ever New Years stay and the other The Good Food Guide for best accommodation.

Not fantastic but not as bad as many of the reviews on here....
We stayed in the Premier Room 8 for one night but extended our stay to another night and moved into the Ullswater Mini Suite. Both were very similar in size. After reading some of the reviews of this hotel on this site, I was dreading our stay, but it wasn't that bad... The Premier Room 8 is located on the bottom of the property, at the rear, below ground level, it has a small wash room with toilet and the spa bath is in the main bedroom area, which seems a little strange at first but is fine. The hot tub is just outside through a rear... more
Better than expected but still a let down...
Having booked the hotel for a birthday trip with my other half, I was dreading going after then coming across the reviews on this site. We stayed in the Wastwater Suite for two nights and, although it obviously hasn't been decorated on a huge budget, it was clean and nicely appointed. The Suite was in a separate cottage to the rest of the hotel so benefited from its own entrance and was very quiet. We therefore only ventured into the hotel itself for breakfast: the dining room is very small, the food okay but we did find the staff to... more
Nice stay considering other reviews
We stayed at 21 the Lakes for 2 nights. After booking it then reading some of the negative reviews we were expecting the worst. Which probably did us a favour! This Hotel markets itself as a BOUTIQUE hotel, which should hopefully give you some ideas about it's general size, chic and bijou springs to mind. We had a very pleasant stay, we stayed in the Penthouse room, which was almost worth the money, as it was large and spacious and had a hot tub AND a sauna. I probably would have felt more short changed had we stayed in any... more
Better than expected
I booked 2 rooms at 21 The Lakes for 2 nights from August 16th - The Regal Mini Suite and the Bassenthwaite Suite. Total cost - 400 pounds. Unfortunately, following my booking, I came across the Trip Advisor site, and was so put off by the reviews that I cancelled the 2 rooms. They informed me that I would only be refunded if they could re-sell the rooms at the same rate. I waited about 5 days, and hadn't heard back. By this stage it was cutting it close to the actual date of stay and I doubted I could find anything else in the... more
