We were at the Vrissina for the celebration of my sons 21st birthday celebration. The staff were all most helpful and friendly, the public areas and our rooms were spotlessly clean. I enjoyed having a chilled drink whilst overlooking the pool at night. We were A/I for our... more

Just got back from a two week stay at the vrissiana hotel, which was great. Protaras is a fantastic resort, the beach is amazing and has a good selection of water sports. Ideal for familes and couples of all ages. This was our second visit to Protaras and I wouldnt hesitate returning to this hotel again, I would recommend this hotel

arrived back last week (half board)- the hotel staff and food has improved from last year 99% - my usual complaint the hotel becomes a 18-30's venue at the weekends ( I am female 60+) but I knew that when I booked again for this year that would be the case - and... more

Cyprus yes, Vrissiana hotel never!
I have just returned from Cyprus and must share my expirience with you to avoid your very bad accomodation in such a great island in Meditarranean sea. My expectation was 4 star hotel but what I have seen can not nompare even with 2 star hotels! Briefly: 1) The reception twice refused my request for change of the room. 2) The room was very dark and threadbare. 3) Room thermostat was broken. A/C could be only ON or OFF so in the morning we were like in a fridge. In addition the A/C was blowing directly on the bed. 4) The room was every day very very noisy till 2am because of close several night bars. 5) I have never seen such a big cockroach which was in our bathroom!!!! I could not believe! The room service staff was really fighting with the cockroach by using a spray and a broom quit long. 6) Food in the restaurant was sometimes sick. First 4 days I had an indigestion!! Also the tables very very often dirty. All drinks even watter vere paid extra. Anyhow I can recommend Cyprus because of the nice beaches, clear sea and always nice whether.
Awful
As two easy going people we are hardly ever phased by things on holiday, as usually we just accept that things arent always as they are at home, and this is the first time I have ever been prompted to warn other holiday-makers about a destination. We stayed at the Vrissiana for two weeks in May, having flown over for a friends wedding. The hotel is located in protaras which is a bit like Blackpool or Rhyll, and there are really noisy bars right beside the hotel (the Ghetto Bar) which go on until the early hours. The hotel is dated and reminiscent of The Shining! The corridors are long and dark with horrible carpets and the room decor is dated. Bathrooms are in poor condition and ours flooded every time we had a shower. The toilet seat was broken. In the rooms you have to pay to use the TV which I have never come across in a 4 star hotel before. Having never ever asked to change rooms in a hotel before, we had 3 rooms before there was one which was even habitable, and even so were really dubious about it! We went for the all inclusive option but wished we hadnt. The food is not at all great, even for 2 very non-fussy seasoned travellers and is very pre-packed, reheated, mass produced in nature. There were people there who could find nothing to feed their small children, as there was only cold chewy calamari one night. The flambe night costs extra and I wouldnt recommend it to you. Drinks were served grudgingly and we felt as though the staff resented the all inclusive customers. One of the bar waitresses, Andrea was fantastic-so polite and efficient, however sadly most of the others seemed so rude and resentful of customers it was painful! The pool is nice but sun loungers are limited. The "all inclusive snacks" are hot dogs which are only served for a couple of hours, and the bar staff made us feel like it was a real effort for them and we were really inconveniencing them on the one occasion we asked for them! The best part of Cyprus for us was renting a car and heading out and about. We went up to the Turkish republic of northern Cyprus and would honestly recommend anyone do this. It is so lovely up there, the people are so nice and friendly, the food amazing- its just a world away from the grot and surliness of the southern beach resorts. Definitely climb St Hilarion Castle-the guy who is the curator speaks fab english and couldnt be more informative or helpful. The Holiday Inn in Nicosia is right on the green line and has the most amazing roof top terrace restaurant with live Cuban salsa band- cant recommend it highly enough!!! So we had a great time anyway but ended up staying in other hotels and getting away from the Vrissiana, even though we had paid for it and the all inclusive option. Needless to say Northern Cyprus we loved, but we wont be rushing back to the Vrissiana!!!
dissapointed
Stayed at the Vrissiana in 2005 so we new what to expect i.e. needs refurbishing etc but stayed there this year and apparentlly the hotel as a ne manager and he sees to be making a lot of cut backs. we stayed all-inclusive both times and last year was great choice of food made it a 4* it was that good, the food was cooked outside so you knew it was fresh, at lunch you could eat outside and again eat freshly cooked meals. the entertainment at night last year was spot on and again well worth a viewing. this year was different, i dont know if it was early season but lunch you had to eat in the dining room, drinks you could only have one type of beer and only in half pint glasses (if you were paying, you could have pints? £3 apint) the food seemed to be repeated every other day, which made you wonder. seems the hotel has been bought out by the hotel next door and they may be running it down (apparently all the staff have been given there notice) the staff were great and couldn't do enough for you which seems a shame but apparently eastern europeans cost less to employ!
loved it
good hotel spent a week 10th may( food )good choice and hot hotel built like a cruse liner in agood location only draw back is the noise at night from pubs on main street, not hotels fault would recommend and go again
all inclusive (not all) but you`ll like it
Jusy got back from aweek at the Vrissianna Beach Hotel 13/10/2005 ,read about it on the net and was just as most reviews said clean ,friendly and good food. Although the food was good it could have been a bit hotter.(don`t have the pitta bread and kebabs bit tough).Plenty of sunbeds when we went no overcrowding, entertainment mediocre ,rooms clean and hotel grounds kept very tidy. No free drinks in minibar for allinclusive and no meal at night when leaving on late flight (02-30).We went allinclusive but if we went to Protaras would go self catering or BB as there are plenty of places to eat and drink. all in all very good place and hotel and would reccomend it.
Dissapointing Hotel
We stayed in the hotel for 4 days(this was the earliest we could be moved) We asked to be moved as we did not think this lived up to a 4 star rating hotel. The facilities were not great the gym equipment was broken and unsafe. The maintenance for the hotel is very poor. Flower pots around the pool contained dead flowers. I would not stay in the hotel unless there was some refurbishment done to bring this to a 4 star rating.
excellent all round holiday
As an active couple in our mid forties (on holiday without the kids these days) I look for a decent standard of resort, hotel to enjoy our new freedom. I was immedietely impressed with the hotel interior from foyer to rooms. The staff were absolutely fantastic without exception although the activities during the day were limited. (There was more going on at the adjacent 5 star Constantionos the Great hotel.) Situted on the beach near to an abundance of water sports, superb!! The pool and beach were also excellent and there was no need to set the alarm clock to book your sunbed. Food avearge for a four star Greek hotel although the resort of Protaras offenred many great eateries. eating out was reasonable with great variety. Best entertainment 'Rockafeller's ' pub 300 metres along main road. The resort as a whole is new, clean and I would go back without question.
Great location but a few hotel gripes
My boyfriend and I stayed at this hotel for a week at the beggining of July 05. The hotel was really nice but I felt that some of the staff were sometimes ignorant and rude, especially the bar staff at the pool and hotel bar, e.g. waiting a while to get served even though the staff acknowlege you, witnessing 2 bar staff arguing in front of guests. We went All Inclusive but some things you have to pay for, e.g certain cocktails at the bar and wine, which we expected to be included. Make sure you read the paperwork that they give you on arrival which lists exactly what you are entitled to for free. There were rules to the times when you can have pool snacks which we thought was wrong as the other guests who were not All Inclusive could have them at whatever time they wanted, it was almost as if the staff resented you for being All Inclusive !! you have to sign for every drink, meal you have and give your room number which was a pain at times, we just expected to be able to show our wristbands and that was it. The hotel says that you cannot reserve sunbeds with towels as there are enough for all guests, this isn't the case as the majority of the week we had to pay for sunbeds on the beach as the hotel sunbeds were all taken in the hotel grounds, my advice is to get to the pool early if you want a sunbed. The food was nice and the chefs were always on hand to serve you or explain what was in certain dishes etc. The food is themed each night, e.g. French night, Mexican, Flambe nights etc and the restaurant staff were really friendly. We went out a couple of nights to eat as there are loads of differerent places to eat and drink and the hotel is really central to everything, the main strip is literally a few feet away from the hotel. The entertainment was nothing to write home about, we were expecting the pool bar to open up at night as its quite a big area right on the beach with a nice sitting area but the indoor bar was used for the entertainment which was quite small so it often got crowded and hot. Some people stayed on the balcony outside the bar listening to next doors outdoor entertainment. The last thing I wanted to do was sit indoors when its nice warm nights so this was a bit dissapointing. I would reccomend the bed and breakfast option rather than All Inclusive at this hotel as this gives you the freedom to go out and about instead of being stuck in the hotel which to be honest doesn't have much of a "holiday" atmosphere. Our room was cleaned every day but we were on the ground floor. There must have been some sort of generator beneath it as most things in the room shook, including the floor and beds which made it difficult to sleep at night. On the whole, this hotel was a dissapointment and wasn't the 4* we expected from the brochures that we looked at and the read ups on the internet.
Vrissiana to be recommended
The two of us spent eleven enjoyable days at the Vrissiana in mid June. We could not fault the hotel - excellent room, excellent staff, food good (although could have been more "interesting"), pleasant grounds and the weather was superb. Plenty of night life without being too busy, and excellent "in-house" entertainment most nights. We would certainly visit again. Unfortunately we CANNOT recommend HELLENIC VOYAGES as tour operators. Their "organisation" of both arrival and departure was somewhat conspicuous by its absence for ourselves and others we met during our stay(who also had other problems with agreed arrangements) causing lots of worry and wasted time by all. Complaints made in writing during the holiday and on our return have not even been acknowledged. But do not let this put you off the Vrissiana Beach Hotel, which was very good indeed !!
had a great holiday but some negatives
our party consisted of 2 adults and 4 children aged from 4 to 11yrs. on the whole we had a great hoiliday at the vrissiana the staff where friendly especially with the children. we had interconnecting rooms which were fabulous for us and the rooms were clean and nicely decorated. There is a small kids club and Ian the rep. was very good with the children. the pool is 5 ft deep at then shallow end so is not ideal for children however our 2 youngest were fine with arm bands on. there is also a small kiddies paddling pool. We were all inclusive - the breakfast was brill - full english if you want plus all the other continental stuff. The rest of the food was average at best - we ate out some of the time as lots of restaurants closeby. Not all is included either you have to pay extra for pancakes in afternoon and kids slush at pool bar, only small ice cream tubs included. Entertainment was average, we enjoyed it though. Location is fantastic -right in the centre of Protaras and right on the beach! We would go back but would go B&B as so many nice restaurants. - Weather was fabulous -didnt see a cloud in the sky.
