" Just returned for a weekend at 'The... "

Just returned for a weekend at 'The Edwardene Hotel' and it was great. This hotel is the most impressive one on the street and with a very warm welcome from the owners. This Hotel is only a short walk to the centre and is excellent in every way. It is rated 2 stars by the ‘AA’ but I would disagree, I would say more 4 star. The room was a king-size on the top floor, which when I booked the owner said it would be 2 singles put together and I said this would be fine.

The breakfast, well it was worth going to Keswick just for this. We had cereals, toast then a full Cumbrian Breakfast. The bacon was thick and smoked and had to be the best I have ever tasted and I still don't now how they do their poached eggs so perfectly shaped. The sausage was all meat and there was no trace of oil/fat on the plate. It is very hard to find somewhere to park, especially if you arrive on a Friday at 18.30 like we did. We managed to park a couple of streets away and thank god we didn't have a huge car or we would have found it a lot harder to park up.

We had 2 meals out one night was at 'The Silk Road Chinese Restaurant &Takeaway - Museum Square, we ordered half a duck for starters and my god it was the biggest duck I have ever seen and the rest of the food was well worth it. We had the starter of duck, 2 main meals a rice and noodles and 2 cans of woodpecker cider and the total cost was £34.00 which for the amount we got the price was fantastic. The other meal out was at ‘Lakeland Spice Cuisine (Bangladeshi) - 81 Main Street.

This was also good, we had 'Onion Bhaji and stuffed chicken tikka pepper, chicken tika masala (too much coconut was sprinkled on top as that was all I could taste) and another curry and one rice and a bottle of water (ask for tap water in a jug or you will get imported water by the bottle from Norway for £4.50 like we did) for £37.00. Between the two the Chinese was the best meal but there are so many places to choose from. Some of the places to eat you need to book at least the day before as we tried a couple and they were all fully booked.

The walk to the lake is well worth it. We took our new digital camera and we have some fab pictures. It is easily accessible for prams and wheelchairs and takes a loaf of bread as the Geese are lovely to feed. Overall well worth the visit and an excellent place to stay I would recommend ‘The Edwardene’ to all.
