" Would return "

Had a good time at the Marmaris Palace Hotel, staying all inclusive with our 2 year old daughter. One problem is the steps, there are simply so many as the resort is on a hillside. There are lifts in the hotel but they are not particularly well placed, so you will end up going up and down steps alot and if you have a buggy this can get a bit tiring also if you are elderly you may struggle. The hotel location is excellent as it is nicely set between Marmaris and the delightful icemeler an enjoyable equidistant walk each way. As you leave the hotel toward the pier and sea there is a nice and very long traffic free path which is good for a walk and perfect for a morning jog. The scenery is beautiful and the Turkish people are as nice as you possibly imagine!! The food was good, with lots of variety, the puddings are colourful and taste great. No butter though, which was a problem for me as I hate marge or any type of spread. The entertainment was hit'n'miss anything the involves the entertainment team was a bit dire.
Our only real problem was a1travel who we booked the tour with a poorly run internet company. We paid for 13 nights not realising that included the time of our arrival 6am (no delays) up to 12.00pm (our first 6 hours at the hotel) counted as our first night!! So in reality we only had 12 nights. I complained on our return and was basically given the brush off. So I suggest you look at there booking details very closely. Just DON'T go with them. A1 travel also set you up with independent transfers, these are a nightmare. The transfer should take around 90mins but the driver stops to chat with some mates at a little cafe for about 50mins each way. Not what you want when you want to get to the hotel with a small child. Apart from the inadequate A1 travel, the holiday was great, many are wary of Turkey but have no need to be, it's more than capable of providing a superb holiday experience.

" Marmaris Palace, Icmeler "

I have just returned from this hotel which was full to the brim with russian people who are very rude and miserable. There are many russians in Turkey. Sunbeds around the complex are in shortage as you can only get one if you are up at 8am. I found the hotel very noisy at times and the air conditioning is very poor. In 100 degree heat it is just not acceptable. Certain foods are on each meal time like breads, cheeses, salads etc the main courses do differ but i feel when cooking for the masses its not always top quality. Food is available in the hotel more or less all day and night, same with the drinks. It has a few bars and a small nightclub but nobody seemed to go into the nightclub. The bar on the beach is not part of the all inclusive either. Pedalo's and canoes are part of your AI but all motorised water sports are chargeable. The complex is like a mini village really, it is quite well equipped in that sense and the setting is very nice. there seems to always be something on for the kids round the main pool and a show is normally on in the amphitheatre at night, different things like hypnotist to singing etc.....The staff all seem friendly enough. The rooms in the bungalows are bigger than in the actual hotel. We had no sighting of our thomson rep for the duration of our stay. Icmeler is quite nice and there are plenty bars and restaurants, Marmaris on the other hand is banging in the bar street area at night and is full of turkish off duty waiters and russians, we saw more brits on the beachfront bars in Marmaris. Taxis from this hotel to marmaris are about 20 lira which is about 7/8 GBP and taxis into icmeler are about 5GBP, The dolmus (bus) goes from icmeler to marmaris for 2 lira 80pence but it gets full very quickly. We managed to get a meal for 3 with starters and a bottle of wine and coffes for around 55GBP in icmeler and it was a nice restaurant so its quite cheap to eat out when you get sick of the AI. There are no bacon or sausage on the breakfast in the hotel but you can get it on the cafes off the complex. Dont bother with the night time boat trip as it is just boring for 3 hours 10pm - 1am. Its just a waste of time when you can be sat in the trendy cushioned beach bar. The water taxis are about every half hour from the hotel at around 7.50 lira 3GBP. The market in ocmeler is on a wed from 9 - 4, it is absolutely packed and they ask to shake your hands and then wont let go and start attaching jewellery to you so you cant walk off, dont shake the hands and be firm, dont buy anything at the first price they give you - always half the price straight away and they usually agree, they love to barter with you, i saved about £50.00 on 2 bags through bartering. Some of the bags are cheaper and you can get like 3 for a tenner but some are more leatherlook and better made so these are the ones you need to barter for. It has clothers, belts, shoes, food, teas, allsorts for sale. The beach is quite good and you just float in the sea you dont need to tread water, its really freaky......... Overall we had a good time, i dont think i would go back to this hotel but will probabaly try a different resort in Turkey again at some point.

" Absolutely loveeeeed it!! "

Have just got back after a week in Turkey and honestly it was beautiful!
I went with my boyfriend he’s aged 23 and myself 19, and we sat there and we read the reviews the good and the bad before we went and the bad couldn’t be more wrong.
The hygiene of the hotel was great, maids came daily with fresh towels and sheets and they wouldn’t disturb if you were in the room they would politely leave and come back later.
The wasps were nothing compared to what others made out, yes there were a few but wasps are wasps, if you left them alone they left you alone.
The weather was completely different to what the internet said so it just goes to show doesn’t it. We were predicted 19 most days and the minimum we had was 25 and it got hotter every day.
The staff was nothing other than polite; they are there to help you remember so think why would they need to be rude to you?
There are 3 places to go and eat on site so if you are unhappy with one choice then move on to the next, its all inclusive remember. The buffet was great, choices for everyone, from paella to pizza, to meatballs to curry there was loads.
The pizzeria was an Italian restaurant in the day and a sea food one at night which was good and that was reservation only so you were guaranteed a place.
There’s also a burger/ sandwich bar on the beach so the choices are endless.
Many of the other reviews said that it was not for young couples but there is a disco on sight, regular buses to bar street and a water sport centre on site and I can hardly picture this setting for OAP's only. Not to say that this is a party hotel but more of a family hotel, they cater for everyone. There’s a regular kids show every night and an adults entertainment though I will admit the adults show was a bit dunce it was only to the last couple of nights did we get to enjoy it as they started to get the audience involved other than that it was pretty poor dance routines but have a couple of cocktails and you'll laugh!
The only problem is that the setting may look beautiful as it’s surrounded by mountains but this does mean that the sun does start to get blocked out by 3 so you are constantly moving to get the sun after those times unless you’re out in the sea then your fine lol! I will say though as we were not told by our holiday providers (Thomas cook, AVOID BOOKING WITH THEM! there useless!) You do need £10 English money to pay for a visa once you arrive into Turkey and on the way out of turkey the luggage allowance is only 15 each and you have to pay £8 for each kg you are over. But to be honest I haven’t a bad word to say about the place, I loved every minute of it and met some amazing people who were there to work and there to enjoy there holiday to. Definitely would recommend and hope to go next year! :-)

" A real family resort. Excellent... "

A real family resort. Excellent staff. Food was better than expected and the a la carte restaurant was fantastic.

The rooms are very basic and our tele didn't work (not a bad thing) while friends waited the whole week for theirs to arrive. Avoid it if you don't have kids as they take over the whole hotel.

Beach is concrete so most people stay around the pools. Very start of the season so Icmeler was not open but Marmaris was.

We enjoyed our stay and would take an empty suitcase next time!

" On arrival at the hotel, all appeared... "

On arrival at the hotel, all appeared to be well. Check in was quick and efficient and the room was spotlessly clean.

Our room was in a bungalow a little way from the main hotel, overlooking the sea. The luggage was delivered by porters and we settled in well.

However, our experience was one that was not great. The food was not good. It was repetitive, bland and uninteresting, not of the quality that a 4* hotel should be producing.

Meal times were also riotous. Bad mannered and rude guests took control and the hotel staff seemed helpless to intervene. Hot sweaty people eating without shirts is not pleasant! There was also a mad scramble for cups, cutlery, butter etc as there was never enough.

The A la carte restaurant was good (5 Euros extra per person) and managed much better.

The facilities were dated and not of good quality. For instance, tennis rackets with no handle grips and a single threadbare tennis ball.

The 'animation team' were a nuisance. They were intimidating, intrusive and rude and if the best they can come up with is bingo and darts, things have gone wrong. Most of the team spent too much time chatting up the teenage girls.

The Turkish bath looked lovely and a real possible getaway. That was however until the weather cooled and people moved indoors. The guest’s behaviour was poor and again the staff seemed reluctant to intervene. Not so much a relaxing atmosphere as a riot.

As we went at Easter it was still fairly cool. This hotel does NOT accommodate this fact. At night the room was very cold and the heating did not work. The bedding was insufficient for the time of year. If you go early in the season, pack a hot water bottle!

It took three days to get a pillow from the hotel, cleaning was good but sporadic (twice in one day and then none for two days) and our curtains were changed during the holiday (I have no idea why!)

Be warned that if your departure is later than you check out, the hotel has NO FACILITIES for baggage storage. We were just told to leave our bags in the foyer. Serious risk of someone tampering with them!

Also, where our room was, it was pretty quiet but one night a neighbouring hotel had a party into the night. It didn't worry us too much but if you go during high season you will not sleep.

On a positive note the 4x4 trip was excellent and if you venture to Marmaris to eat, go to Nil's on the seafront opposite the marina, it is fantastic.

I would not recommend this hotel. It has great potential but is poorly run and not 4* at all.

" When I first arrived at Marmaris... "

When I first arrived at Marmaris Palace the staff where very helpful and friendly. The accommodation was basic but very clean the bathroom they supply all that you need, luxury shower gel. Dove hand wash. Hair dryer. The room was cleaned everyday with clean towels and bed linen changed. The meals. The breakfast was good everyday fried eggs. scrambled eggs. Fresh bread. Also a big healthy option to choose from.

Lunch was soups. Salads. As well as hot foods such as different meats such as veal, chicken or fish. There where always fries or potato wedges for the kids. dinner. always plenty of choice at dinner time with a vast selection of meats, fish, salads, fruit and desserts. The food was always hot with people checking the temperatures during mealtimes.

The complex had excellent facilities with entertainment staff there all day with different games for both children and adults. There was a show on every evening with audience participation a must. We will be going back to this hotel in the future as we all had a good time.

" I am so glad that I trusted my own... "

I am so glad that I trusted my own instincts and decided to go for this hotel, contrary to what others have said on various reviews.

The staff were friendly as we have always found in Turkey, the room was in good order with bedding and towels changed daily, all the usual facilities including mini fridge.

The food was excellent, bacon and eggs in the morning, plenty of chips/wedges every night for those that did not like anything else! there was a good variety of food and something was being cooked fresh outside every night e.g. steak, chicken kebabs (on Turkish night - Thurs). Plenty of sun beds for everyone, kids area well designed, watersides etc under cover of trees and decking around pools.

Hotel spa, good value for money, whole package including Turkish bath, peel, form massage, mud and hair treatment, anti stress massage and full facial for about £75, staff really welcoming and professional.

We did a scuba diving course, with the European Diving Centre, which is the ONLY PADI registered diving school in the resort, staff excellent and very helpful, location near 'turtle beach' in beautiful nature reserve.

Overall we had an excellent weeks stay although the weather was not fantastic (very early season), we would recommend this hotel to all family and friends, what more could anyone ask!

" Stayed in this hotel in Aug 2005. A... "

Stayed in this hotel in Aug 2005. A large group of use went four families in all.
On arrival the staff were very friendly and welcoming. We found on checking in that they new we were all together and because of this they tried to give us 3 rooms instead of 5.
We had had a long days travel so were not very happy.

After an hour of telling us they did not have enough rooms they managed to find 5. Two of the rooms very not what we asked for so we were told we would have to move again the next day! Our rep was no where to be found and did not answer there phone!!

This was a very common thing when we stayed other groups had the same problem apparently the Turkish like to save rooms...

Rooms were very basic and space is limited if more than two people.

Hotel is HUGE and some bungalows are far from the main building and are up and down stairs and slops, this nearly killed my dad...

Food was ok very much the same each day, a lot of salads and cold meats and fruit. The kids we went with hardly ate as they did not like the food, no chips and no meat made from pigs and it is against there religion so no sausages, bacon!!

Entertainment for kids was ok the evening shows were very much for adults and not always in English.

The hotel itself is in a poor location and needs a bus to get any where as there is nothing local. Only a five min bus run to Marmaris and Icmeler but the buses are full and are only little mini vans and the Turkish driving is not good!!!!

The weirdest thing about this holiday was the airport and transfer to the hotel. The airport is badly run and it took two hours to get our luggage. We were all crammed in a corridor which had glass windows filing through. It was mid day so boiling and we all felt like we were stuck in a green house. The transfer to the hotel took two hours in a coach with no air con. The coach takes you from the airport which is located high up and takes you down the steep hills which have no barriers and shear drops!!!! This scared the life out of me as I said the Turkish are bad drivers and I was glad when we got to the bottom of the hills.

Overall this holiday was ok I found it very boring as I like things to do but for a sun lover this would be a good holiday.
