A bit tired around the edges
Stayed at Stonecross Manor for one night over Easter. Personally, I think the hotel is looking a little faded. Our room had a small chunk of wall missing, which looked as if a half-hearted attempt at plastering had been made but not finished. The bathroom radiator was covered in rust as was the shower head. The room was small, but adequate. Couldn't sit in the one chair as it was under a very sloping wall and couldn't move it because of the proximity to the bedside table and bed. On the plus side, the heating worked very well,... more
Great Hotel, Highly Recommended
Your first impressions of the hotel are that it is well managed and well maintained, you can see that a lot of time and effort has gone in to making this hotel what it is today. The food was excellent, the rooms spacious, clean, comfortable and warm. Staff very competent, professional and friendly, will go out of their way to help you, nothing is too much trouble. Will definitely stay again and recommend the hotel to friends. Can’t say I really agree with the earlier comments. Fantastic hotel.
Avoid
If you like dirty carpets held together with silver tape, mould on the windows in the bedroom and the smell of chip fat everywhere then this is the place for you!!!! Personally, after being in the hotel for 5 minutes and taking one look at the room I was supposed to be staying in I immediately checked out. I would advise anyone thinking of staying here to look in Windermere (only about 5 miles away) which is a lovely town with a better selection of accomodation. We ended up staying in the Craig Manor Hotel in Windermere for only £7 more... more
Standards fallen
Sorry - but I am afraid this hotel's standards have fallen. General shabby atmosphere and not very pleasant to find layer of mould surrounding the bedroom windows. Young staff were pleasant enough but the whole place lacked an air of professionalism and decent management.
Very Good Value Hotel
We stayed for midweek special rates of only £85 per night for B&B and evening meal. The 3 course evening meals were excellent as were the breakfasts. The staff were very helpful and pleasant at all times. The pool and jacuzzi are clean and welcoming. We had one main complaint - The four poster beds are VERY hard. If you've got a bad back - DON'T book the four poster suites!!, however, we moved to a standard double room and the normal beds were very comfortable. The hotel would benefit from a lick of paint but this is a bit... more
over rated!
We stayed here on a 3 night special in the suite which was in desperate need of being re-decorated. The food was excellent. The staff are good if you are in bed by 10.30 otherwise you are made to feel very unwelcome i was told on the first night the by the bar girl that she had a party to go to so would i make that my last drink....and on the 3 night our last night the barman started to shut the bar at 10.30 so i asked why and he replied i have to be back at 7am to do breakfast so i got my last drink at 10.50pm and was asked to... more
Great Hotel
Stayed at this hotel for 3 nights over Valentines. We had a suite which was a very nice room (and large) had a lovely four poster with a jacuzzi bathroom. Food was excellent and with a good choice. The only bad point was our room was on the second floor and the hall carpets on this floor were showing their age and our bath room was looking tired and ought to have been re decorated.
lovely, warm, welcoming atmosphere.
I was very pleasantly suprised by the warm, welcoming atmosphere. Lovely food. Clean rooms. The only problem I would have was the four poster bed was too hard. Otherwise a beautiful relaxing experience.
Cosy weekend
A very warming weekend altogether including the welcome and the hotel as a whole. Evening meal in the restaurant was excellent.
Fantastic value
A great family run atmosphere amongst the staff. We had a lovely four poster room with a jacuzzi ...Excellent food in restauarant...highy recommended
