Would Definately Go Back!!
from Zo's
We stayed at the Vangelis Apartments the last week of June and 1st week of July. It has got to be one of the best holidays I have been on except for the ending which I shall tell you about later. Reading some of the reviews I can't believe these people are talking about the same place. We arrived about 3o'clock in the morning and were greeted with very friendly reception staff, although I was fairly sure the male receptionist was two sheets to the wind! We were in Block C at the back in a one bedroom apartment which we found to be very clean and had everything we needed. The air con was a god send as it was extremely hot whilst we were there. The maids changed our towels everyday and sheets every other day. We had no problems at all with cleaniness, the floors were always mopped and the bathroom cleaned to a high standard. The lifts worked fine and the times we decided not to be so lazy and use the stairs, we found them to be very clean. Every evening we saw the maids cleaning up around the pool side, picking up rubbish left by inconsiderate slobs and found the actual pool to be clean the following morning. We were self catering so didn't eat at the hotel, and being so close to the main strip we preferred to eat out every night. My only niggle was the entertainment staff who were, putting it politely, like hyperactive duracell bunnies pumped up to the eye balls with e-numbers! Throughout the day they held various activities which they would count down for an hour before, announcing every 10 minutes how long there was left until that particular activity began. I could think of many things I would have liked to have done with that microphone!! Unfortunately our last night was ruined as the gym underneath the bar caught fire and the whole hotel was evacuated. No one was allowed back in for a good few hours. But this was only to collect our things so we could be moved to another hotel. Luckily as we were leaving the following day we had packed most things earlier that day so we only had a few things to pack in the dark. Extremely hard when you have one torch and four people, not to mention the fact we were on the top floor so had to lug our cases down the stairs as all the electrics were out so no lift! We were moved to an absolute dive in the middle of no where, which was riddled with insects. There were holes in the ceiling of our room, staines on the sheets, one double bed for four of us and brown water which stank. The Vangelis was a 5 Star plus compared to this dump. I would denfinately stay at the Vangelis again, the fire couldn't be helped and has not put us off.
Noisy holiday camp, if you like hi-de-hi....
from A TripAdvisor Member
We were put into these apartments because our hotel (which we had specifically chosen) had overbooked us. What we had for a week was a noisy holiday camp effectively, with poolside bingo, 'magic man', 'elvis', a chinese night, loud 'entertainer'/'event' organiser shouting down a microphone throughout day and night (until 130am) which could not be escaped. It was like the "---" was shouting in our room. There were also children up until these hours playing football and shouting/screaming, with no restraint from thier drunk parents. The room was clean, the food sub-standard and not at all greek, just average quality. Bread always chewy, not fresh. If you want to get "---", let your children run wild, eat sub-standard food and have a "---" trying to get you to play pool side bingo every moment of the day then this is your place!
not recomended for a quiet holiday

i booked 2 weeks at the Vangelis 2 days before with Direct holidays. our room was a one bedroom located at the end of block D, there were only 2 rooms together, But the downside of our room 4202 was that the stairs were located at the end of our bedroom and also the lift so it was very noisy because there were two fire doors to open. Also at 1am it could be noisy if inconsiderate people with their children are noisy when going to their rooms. our next door neighbours were 2 young noisy lads and the walls were so thin that you could hear their loud music. On arrival at the apartments in the early hours we thought this is ok until we got to our room, the outside of the toilet bowl was very dirty also under the seat (they still put a disinfected label on it though) in the two weeks that we were there nobody cleaned our floor it was always sandy from the beach. the towels are about 10 years old and will just about wrap around someone skinny and are very scruffy and crusty to the touch, ideal for rubbing that sun sensative skin after a bath. The towels were changed evaryday except for the bath mat. The room was never dusted for the first 12 days. The water that came out of the taps was yellow so yellow that it stained the bath. They give you an option of going halfboard or all inclusive (£136 cypriot pounds for AI ) which is very expensive considering the very tiny choice of buffet that was on offer breakfast and evenings much better to eat out all the time, we only ate there once and the food was ok. We ate every day at Porkeys on the main strip Pieros and his team always made us feel welcome. The swimming pool was smaller than it looked in the brochure, full of lilos etc and at the end of the day rubbish would wash to the side of the pool and stay there. Always plenty of sunbeds although the shade of the buildings moved round before 12pm so you end up moving several times. Very noisy music was played at poolside thoughout the day and the pool was freezing i dipped my legs once and went for a quick swim. So every day we walked down to fig tree bay which was beautiful and the sea was very warm. The sunbeds were alot cheaper than i had been led to believe from earlier reports £1.25 for each sunbed and also £1.25 for an umbrella. The entertainment at night looked very poor .mr magic pulled a dove out of a hat and nobody made any comment. The most people we saw watching the entertainment was a dozen or so. The elvis inpersonator was very poor chubby guy. We would never go back to the Vangelis it is more 2 star than 4.
This hotel is def not a four star maybe a three.,

This hotel is in a very good location for the strip on Protarus. The hotel is nice the pool is very big, not cleaned very often! We booked this hotel saying we didn't want to be in block b, as it was across the carpark, we got there and had been allocated block b! The reservation lady was very unhelpful and I wouldn't recommend that you try to talk to her about anything, better to go straight to the manager who tries to be helpful. The entertainment team are very loud all day and play 1 or 2 cd's for the whole time you are there. The restaurant and bar staff are very nice and friendly. We went all inclusive but I wouldn't recommend it, the breakfast and lunch were ok but not the evening meal. I wouldn't stay at this hotel again but would go back to Protarus. I also wouldn't recommend booking through Going Places or Airtours as once they have got your money they are not interested in sorting out any problems you might have.
Great Location but poor on cleanliness
from A TripAdvisor Member
The location of this hotel cannot be beaten, as it is central to the main strip in Protaras and set far enough back from the road to make it a quiet location. But quiet it is not, at 11am every day one of the hotels entertainers is let loose on a microphone several decibels above annoying! You are then entertained with the SAME CD all day everyday containing such classics as Star Trekking and the fast food rockers, don’t get me wrong it is great for the kids but if your looking for a quiet relaxing holiday this hotel is not for you. The cleanliness of the hotel also left a lot to be desired, I only observed the pool being cleaned twice all holiday and that only amounted to a guy walking around fishing items from it with a net. Everyone in our party suffered ear infections to which the local Doctor alleged was caused by the pool. Our room was serviced daily by the maids and towels and bedding were changed every other day, although our room was not dusted or mopped for a fortnight (only by ourselves). The lift in C block was always stuck on the second floor and because of this we used the stairs quit frequently on this holiday, and again going back to cleanliness we observed sticking plasters in the stairways, dried up ice creams and cornets which stayed on the stairs for the entire duration of our stay, even though we reported this to reception in fact all our concerns were reported to the reception team but none were acted upon. Please do not let this put you off from Protaras, this was our seventh visit and we adore it there, the beaches are fantastic especially Fig Tree bay, the local bars and restaurants are second to none, for an authentic Cypriot meal and fantastic hospitality try Tsolias restaurant on the back road above the main strip in Protaras, it is a family run restaurant and one of our favourite places to eat in the whole of Cyprus. I would also recommend visits to Troodos mountains, Platres, Adonis Waterfall near Polis and Waterworld in Ayia Naypa, all great days out!
we loved this hotel

my fiance and I stayed at the vangelis apartments and we thought it was a great place to stay!! The location was great, with bars and great resteraunts right outside the entrance. The staff were great too,the receptionist was really nice and even took it in good fun when I slid off the end of the reception desk whilst very drunk!! Ha! Ha! The rooms were basic but very nice and also very clean, the maid came round everyday bar one!!! We booked up about a month before we went and only got a room with a view of a dusty road but we wern`t too bothered as the sun seemed to stay round our side of the building which was great on an evening to relax. We were selfcatering so we didn`t sample and of the evening meals as we ate out a lot. We tried the breakfast but found it was a little cold. We tried a few breakfasts in different places most mornings and found they were all really nice and some were a little cheaper than the hotel. The pool area was great and there were plenty of activities during the day for the kids and adults, there were ample loungers and shades too. If you want a entertaining and lovely resteraunt I would defenitly go to a place named Romio`s Im sure on a weds and friday night is when they have real cypriot entertainment, the owner and staff are great fun and its all open area around a water feature it is a pleasure to eat there!! We found that the prices were very much the same as here, so make sure you have plenty of money as we ran out, luckly I took my bank card. There are plenty of banks etc around. I would recomend the jeep safari trip to the troodoss mountains, we had a great day and saw a great deal too. Overall the vangelis was a great place to stay, situated in a great place, I dont no if I would rate it a four star, maybe more of a three star. The beach is just over the main road outside the hotel, you have to pay for the sunbeds and shades but we enjoyed it there the sea is fantasticly clear and was quite warm too. If anyone is thinking of going to the vangelis, I would defo reccomend it to all.
not what is says

just got back from a fortnights holiday in this hotel, in all honesty, I was very disappointed with the services and the hotel staff. The rooms were very basic but clean and the maid services were very good and they were very friendely. Never in its history has this hotel been a 4 star, more like 2 star. Protaras is great for all ages and would love to go back again but not in this hotel.
great hotel

My partner and i stayed at the Vangelis Apartments in Sept 2004. We had a fab hol and would reccomend this resort and these apartments to anyone! Having read some mixed reviews about the apartments esp tales of building work and other horrors we were a little aprehensive. On arriving in the early hours of the morning the little chap on reception (philis- what a star) was very efficient though appeared a little rusty on english however pointed us in the direction of our apartment. 3rd floor pool view! it was huge - ample for a family nevermind two of us! (tho the storage space was useful for my clothes!!) Maid service was excellent, always kept clean and tidy. The apartments themselves were great. its a big complex and although it was low season suprisingly busy! The complex is geered to kids so if the little ones are not your cup of tea then go to the Sunrise Beach Hotel across the road (literally) a very nice, slightly expensive hotel right on the beach - looked heavenly!) slightly less children i think! BUT i loved vangelis and the kids activities kept us smiling and entertained during our hours of sun worshipping! ie 12 o clock quiz, water polo, aerobics. My partner and i are in our early twenties but from our hols all we want is clean accomodation, nice pool, and a quiet resort with good choice of restaurants and a few bars! Not the clubbing sort! The resort has great nightlife - vangelis is literally in the middle of it all you walk out the apratments and your on the mainstreet to either side of you, but its set back off the main strip so no noise or interference! Eating out- the steak house is good, socorates is heavenly - try the chicken ala cream and also the lamp chops! Island Affair is geat with lots of choice. By far the best restaurant if you like chinese food is china house! its simply superb- although their is another chinese restaurant and we heard that was good too! pizza hut and mcdonalds are there too for those of you who want it but there's lots to choose from! Head out the aparrtments, turn right and walk as far as you can. there a restaurant on the corner called 'the corner restaurant' - we heard thats good but never got to try it! A word of the wise- don't listen to reviews that complain about this reort or the accomodation! Just book it! i promise you won't be dissappointed! email me for any more info or advice
well all i can say is that i have stayed at these apartments on four occassions and think they are very well situated for all the facilities you require on holidays. also stayed at the melini next door and i would say value for money vangelis comes out on top,myself,wife... more
