Aug 2007, hunter

Having recently returned from the Vangelis Hotel we were more than impressed the rooms were a good size as there were 2 adults and 2 kids in our room and had enough room to do our own thing.
The maids were very friendly and cleaned our room every day. We were on ground floor and our balcony was right on the poolside which was ideal as I felt bit uneasy having high lever balcony with our youngest son.
The staff were friendly and helpful and Protaras is such a lovely place the holiday was great. The only downfall I can think of is the food often didn't look too good as were only bed and breakfast this didn't bother us to much as there were so many other places to eat in Protaras itself and found meal times to be very reasonable.
Would go back here again without a doubt.

Went to the Vangelis June/July. Rated 4 star probably 3 star. Good central location.
Went with my wife but would really suit family. Clean apartment and cleaned on a regular basis fresh towels etc.
Good pool side restaurant and children seemed to have ample activities to keep them occupied.
Protaras is everything you require for a holiday. Sun, good beaches and fine food, definitely return.

Jul 2007, Mr C Dennis

Hi, we stayed here is June 2007 the rooms are very clean, the maid came in every day to change the sheets and towels she was very good.
The pool is a very good size; there is a lot of things to do there for the kids. There is a supermarket just around the corner and the beach is just down the road.
The only problem we had was a digger turned up at 9.00am the do some digging but we were up already so it didn't bother us much.
Protaras is very much a family place very nice all the people are brilliant. If your thinking of a holiday in Cyprus go to Protaras as its amazing really nice restaurants the bars have a family feel to them, the watersports at the beach is one of the best I’ve ever been to!
Also try the waterpark near Ayia-Napa as this is also brilliant. I hope this helps you.

Jun 2007, Miss L Dunworth

There were a large number of us who stayed at the Vangelis and what a good place it is.
The staff are friendly, and it’s in a good location on the strip. We should have had a studio apartment but on arrival we were given a one bedroom apartment in block c, the room was cleaned almost every day and cleaning staff very nice.
The pool was lovely and in the sun all day no shade like I heard that after a certain time you have to move to another part of the pool as the rest in shade what a load of rubbish.
The entertainers were brilliant with the kids Siantel and Craig are prob the best entertainers so far and get the adults involved as well as the kids.
Would defo stay here again and just love Protaras on the whole.

Jun 2007, Mrs C Muldoon

Vangelis apartments were first class. They were clean and spacious and the communal areas very well kept.
Protaras is a lively resort, with a good night life and lots of places to go. There are lots of bars and restaurants in Protaras, so had a great choice of where to eat and then go out every night.
We went on a few excursions whilst we were in Protaras, the boat trip with bbq was very good, but don't be expecting 5star quality in the food.... it was fairly basic.
We attended a friend's wedding whilst on holiday and enjoyed the experience immensely. There was quite a large group, and I think that added to the overall enjoyment.
I would definitely recommend Protaras to others.

Dec 2006, Miss C Bilverstone

The hotel itself was very nice, it was clean and had our room had a lovely view of the sea.
The Beds where comfortable and the blocks where easy to access, but the lifts where quite small, so that was quite hard when we first arrived because we couldn't even fit 3 suitcases in it.
The pool area was always clean apart from the towels left at the side from when people had left them. So that was wasn't very pleasant. The water was lovely and didn't sting my eyes.(thank goodness), But at night people got a bit rowdy and sunbeds got chucked into the water.
The staff where very friendly but sometimes the odd one wouldn't be very helpful. But the receptionist was very kind.
Protaras itself is a lovely resort and that's is why we are going back next year. The beaches and pubs where amazing and no one hassled you to come in. They just left you which was nice because in other places like Spain, they are like oh come in best prices here, instead they just let you wonder freely with no interruptions.
I met some great friends there too. We went ro rockafellers every night for last week or something like that.
But overall Cyprus is great and there is plenty to do for kids, teenagers and adults and the elderly so great.

We have just returned from our one...

Oct 2006, Mrs A Cunningham

We have just returned from our one week at Vangelis. On the whole the hotel is nice, but surprised it is 4 star. Our room was clean and spacious. It was cleaned daily and fresh towels too. We were in block D - first floor - with a nice view over the pool area. Although there were quite a few families (with children 6-16), but I do not think this hotel is really geared up for very young children. Mine are 1 and 4, and there was nothing for them apart from the pool.
The pool was clean, and the pool area was cleaned every morning. The food was pretty average. The staff in the restaurant and bar were really pleasant and good with the children.
The worst part of the stay was the in-house entertainment. Chris and Claire. She was pleasant - he was awful. We were there for a whole week and spent a lot of time at the hotel. He never acknowledged us once. Claire spoke when selling us a raffle ticket! They were very "into" the large groups. Spent most nights with a large wedding party. During our week the entertainment was cancelled twice - two acts did not turn up.
We met some really nice people around the toddler pool - and hope they had a nice stay. We would return to the Vangelis, but probably not while the children are so young.
We did feel safe walking around the town and down to the beach. The beach is nice and clean too.

Oct 2006, Mr Olly Dillon

I have just returned back from the Vangelis, and to be quite honest to all the people out there thinking of planning a holiday at a four star hotel don't bother with Vangelis. The rooms were basic size, but on the other hand they were cleaned exceptionally well each day by the friendly cleaners who provided clean towels also everyday.
The drinks were average prices depending on if you prefer there brands or home brands and than you paid over the odds i.e. Can of coke £1.30. The reception staff very friendly.
I also want to say a special thank you to Romi Who worked in the pool bar for making my holiday what it was, in my opinion she was the friendliest and most helpful member of staff in the resort, thank you again.
Overall, I would return back to Cyprus which I’m planning later next year, but not at the Vangelis, but for families this hotel is perfect as the entertainment is mainly for kids and the entertainers (Claire and Chris) were excellent with the children.

Having just returned this morning...

Oct 2006, Miss P McGuigan

Having just returned this morning from a week in Protaras staying at the Vangelis I have to say i have mixed feelings on the resort and hotel.
The hotel was clean if basic and i found the cleaning staff to be more polite and helpful than the reception. I was a bit disappointed at the deposit system for the a/c, althou it was just a deposit and had no problems being refunded.
We were on self catering however did have lunch at the bar area one day - absolutely disgusting, very glad i hadnt paid for half board.
We were in B block and felt very excluded from the hotel. Unfortunatly we had a ground floor room number 2007, and had no balcony as such just a small patio, surrounded by a car park, so very exposed if wanting to sit out in the morning. Althou the room was very spacious with excellent storage space.
I only went to the pool once to find it shaded by 1pm, a small area wasnt in the shade but was totally packed. A lot of kids at this hotel. and the bar was expensive for juice and snacks.
Resort
The resort was nice, very safe and i felt very comfortable walking around, after a few days i did get a bit bored as there is not a large selection of shops and what there is is all very same'ish'. The beach is just a short walk from the hotel and for £5 a day we got 3 beds and parasol, there is also an ice cream van on the beach which is much cheaper for juice than the pool bar. We spent everyday on the beach - sand and sea are beautiful. The nightlife is boring, you could see elvis 4 times in one night here! lots of karaoke good if you like that sort of thing, there are also 2 nightclubs. We went out for dinner everynight to different places and found the varity and prices in restuarants very good - would recommend the Island Affair (fab steaks) and the Hippocampus lovely staff and comfortable environments.
Would probably go back to protaras but to different accommodation - no more than a week thou!!

Sep 2006, Mrs S Green

Just back from 2 weeks staying at the Vangelis apartments. The rooms looked clean however the cooker and down the sides of the worktops were dirty on arrival, the maids did not come every day, the pool area was was always left with rubbish lying around, and dirty towels were left for days on end. The staff were not overly friendly, and the entertainment was deplorable to say the least. Considering the cost of this holiday I expected a higher standard of cleanliness at least, never mind the friendliness of staff. Protaras itself is a lovely holiday destination with lovely beaches and fantastic places for eating out and about.

Sep 2006, Miss G Meredith

I and my boyfriend stayed at the Vangelis at the end of August 2006 for two weeks. We had an amazing holiday the island was lovely and everyone was very friendly. The staff at the hotel could have been a little bit friendlier but they didn’t really bother me as much as some of the guests staying in the hotel.
The entertainers Chris and Claire were fab and they really made you feel welcome, everybody around the pool liked them and they were always really professional.
Fig tree bay is literally a five minute walk away and is well worth a visit. All the restaurants are very good value the nightlife is nice for couples and families, not really suitable for groups of youngsters. But Ayia Napa is a ten minute drive away.
The rooms in the Vangelis are really nice and very spacious. We didn’t have a view of the pool or the sea but it didn’t matter as our balcony was nice and private. I would recommend this hotel to families and couples of all ages. You will be happy with your choice.
Have a good one Gemma Meredith and David Williams
Sorry to Claire and Chris we didn’t get to say good bye on our last day thank you for everything you make a fantastic team....

This is rated as a 4 star by Direct...
4 / 10
Sep 2006, Not Specified

This is rated as a 4 star by Direct Holidays. It is over rated in my opinion. We stayed in B block away from the main complex. It is unsupervised, and unruly guests are able to run wild until all hours. If you go to Vangelis, ask for accommodation nearer reception. The room itself was basic, but all we needed. Unfortunately our air con was flooding the room on a daily basis, and it took 3 days of complaining to get it seen to. On the plus side, our maid Dora was fantastic and friendly.
Any gym bunnies out there, forget it! So little equipment available, it abuses the name. There is an old running machine with live wires loose, and the gym itself is in a basement room with mould all over the door and walls, and it stinks!
The outdoor pool is ok, and it’s relatively easy to get a sun bed, however I would recommend crossing the road and going to the beach. There for £1.25 you get a cushioned sun bed and a far better view.
The entertainment was poor and hardly anyone attended. We tried once, but found it half hearted. Go to the local bars, there is always something more interesting going on.
Plenty of restaurants to choose from, don’t eat at the Vangelis unless you like poor quality mass produced food that has been sat in a metal tray for hours. Harsh but true. The Basilica nearby was good with lovely friendly staff who weren't overbearing like a lot of other places (Georgios in particular.)
The resort on the whole is basically a one street town. Not much to do but the beaches are lovely. Ayia Napa is only 80 cents on the bus away, so go there for more upbeat times.
Protaras is a good place for a quiet family holiday, as for the Vangelis? Best forgotten in my book.
