Sep 2008, Mr C Hudson

we were sold this holiday on the basis of a 4 star hotel, but it def wasnt a 4 star
rooms were big enough and it was in the right place in the resort ,right at the front in the centre excellent position ,but im afraid thats about as far it goes
when you arrive you get charged 20 euros per week deposit for air con(fair enough)then you pay 15 euros per week safe key, then you have to pay for a remote for you tv which has no english channels!!!
service down in the bar area is rubbish, all round the pool it was mucky with bins not emptied an cig butts all over ,sunbeds are all 300 years old ,and the pool is well known for being mucky as you can tell by the other reviews,in the morning you cant get up for a swim or they tell you to get out while they clean the pool ,which all he does is clean the grime marks off the edge with a brush leaving the dirt in the water for the next day!!
the reps are useless and the music they play throughthe day is like something from an 18-30s holiday,we tried to eat round the pool one day using their takeaway service ,man what a joke,
i really cant stress enough DONT GO

expected a comfortable stay in a 4...

Aug 2008, Mrs S Butcher

expected a comfortable stay in a 4 star accomodation with a requested pool/sea view - got a ground floor room in block d , the only one not near the pool and across a side road from everything else including reception facing a car park, my parents got a room on the other side of block d facing the other car park and the back of a restaurant.our balcony was too small for our family of 4 to sit out at the same time.the rooms were basic but clean.everthing could do with updating especially the ripped sunbeds with flaky paint that often stuck to our skin and a life guard that insisted putting the parasols down in the heat of the day in case they got damaged in the breeze, i have two children and when they were not in the pool they were in the shade, he was not very happy when i wouldn,t let him lower the parasol and said we would have to take responsibilty if it broke we agreed because the children needed the shade.the entertainment during the day was poor as they were more interested in keeping in with the adults than entertaining the children this only picked up on the last couple of days after many complaints - i would not recommend the vangelis

After a fantastic holiday last year...
10 / 10
Aug 2008, Mrs S L Cunningham

After a fantastic holiday last year at the Vangelis, we decided to book up again for this summer. We also asked our two friends and their three children (aged 1, 8 and 15) to come along too.
This was the second time I had stayed at the Vangelis with my husband and two children (aged 11 & 8). Many of the staff were the same as last year and most of them remembered our faces which was nice.
We can only say positive things about all of the staff at the Vangelis. Especially Tony and Figo (bar staff), Veronica (poolside bar staff), Apollo (chef) and all of the entertainment team...Nikki, Olly and Chico. They are very helpful and friendly. The children absolutely loved Nikki...she made the holiday for them really. Chico and Olly were also great fun...especially when playing water polo as Chico hates to be on the losing team!!!
We were fortunate to know what the food would be like at the Vangelis therefore we booked All Inclusive. I'm not sure if we would do that without this prior knowledge. The breakfast buffet, day menu and evening meals all have a very good selection. The evening meals take on a themed night such as Oriental night, BBQ, Itallian etc etc. We found that all of the food was delicious... just as last year and would certainly recommend All Inclusive.
Our room was as last year, comfortable and clean. Maid service was regular and were all friendly.
The Love Boat and the Zodiac Bar are good places to go for Karaoke Kings and Queens! The beaches are absolutely beautiful...Fig Tree being our favourite. We hired a speed boat from Stavros and had a brilliant time on the water.

We will certainly be going back to the Vangelis again and will definitely be taking advantage of being All Inclusive once more!

just returned from vangelis...

Aug 2008, Mr T Radley

just returned from vangelis (13/08/08), I can relate to some of the bad comments ,eg sewage smell, (but only the occasional smell of urine in the bathroom) but not that bad, bearing in mind I am a very very fussy person with high standards .the hotel I think should be a 3 * not a 4* as stated in the brochure. however a holiday is what you make it and the vangelis made it a great holiday, especially ollie , David (aka chico)and Nicki. They gave great pool entertainment for all the kids , of any age. And great fun for the adults doing water polo, volley ball and aerobics. a quick mention to Ollie as he had only been an entertainer for 16 days on our departure date, I could not believe that , he is a natural , great bloke( say Trev said hello)
the pool was clean and tidy however we were getting up at 7am to get sunbeds(for 10) if you left it until 7.30 you would struggle to get 4 together . are party was 4 adults 6 children.
reception done their job
bar staff done their job
cleaners very good
entertainers Ollie chico niki brilliant
evening entertainment ok
breakfast (buy at hotel daily, not through tour opperator) good
evening meal did not have
lunch did not have
snacks good
goto the 2 euro bar end of hotels road turn right 50 yds on right 2 euro for local beers and cocktails
RESTAURANT MUST GO TO AND POINTLESS GOING ANYWHERE ELSE on the corner of the hotel road called ERATO and a great guy to seat you standing in the entrance called Andreas (mention to him the family from Norwich)
hire a car from WINDMILL turn left out of hotel road walk about 300 yds on your right (40 euros for 6 seater 30 euros for a mazda 3) chepest anywhere with full insurance and no exess the beach is fantastic, water sports fantastic, protarus fantastic and clean no louts all in all a great great great family holiday

Aug 2008, Mrs T Cairns

On arrival you are met by a bad mannered and unhelpful receptionist, room we requested was okay overlooking the pool, though to call this hotel three star plus is a joke. The poolside is dirty with ripped sunbeds which are taken before 8.00 in the morning and half the pool area is shaded by 2.00.
The rooms are clean though pestered by the maid for a tip from the start for this previlige.
The entertainers do a good job during the day keeping you busy, though the night time entertainment is poor.
Generally you are overcharged in the hotel and resort to €4.40 for the cheap local beer in the hotel and the resort.Charging €13.60 for a cheese & tomato pizza.
None of the wonder there are alot of brand new Merc's owned by the owners of the restaurants and bar's.
There is an option to go all inclusive in the hotel which is €39.00 per adult but the food is repetative. The resort is dirty in places and dramitically overcharging you what ever they seem that they can get away with.Speaking to people who have been there in the past they will not be revisting Portaras, neither will we.

We stayed in B block of the hotel...
7 / 10
Aug 2008, Mrs A AUGHTON

We stayed in B block of the hotel which smelt of sewage most of the time so was unable to sit on the balcony to eat or drink day or night. However, Blocks A C & D were good. The rooms were tidy and maids were very friendly which is more than I can say for the two women bar staff who worked in the day. They where extremely rude all the time even towards the children many times we were ignored when trying to order food or drinks so we stopped and brought our own food from the supermarket next door which was much cheaper and better food.
The entertainment was good with water polo and other pool games with chico and other reps who all worked really hard day and night.
Protaras was a excellent resort for us (we have children 16 & 11) with plenty of pubs and places to eat and if that fails there's McD'S and pizza hut up the road. All the pubs had entertainment some of which was excellent especially a bar called Sfinx which had an wonderful show including a drag act our best night!
Fig tree bay was beautiful. We also visited the water park in Ayia napa which was a great day out.
We met a wonderful family which made our holiday great and we are looking to go back to Protaras next year but not at the Vangelis.

stunk of sewerage,unfriendly...

Aug 2008, Mr K Kyriakou

stunk of sewerage, unfriendly reception staff totally unhelpful in every way.we were put in a room next to the bar, although the bar closed at 12pm the computer games and air soccer games are left on all night, the sink and bath didn't drain took a life time.don't look under the beds or settee as the dust alone is around ten inches thick.cooking facilities are dangerous for children as they are so low, cooking rings also rusty and everything you cook burns as the pans are really bad, maybe this is to entice you into updating to all inclusive?I don't like taking risks though with young children.children's swimming pool filthy and yellow, everyone we talked to had serious ear infections, realise that it was high season and busy but it didn't help matters as they should have had this cleaned, kid's had great games though hunt the cockroaches, they also found that the green mats around the pool were where the cockroaches hid or lived ,I'm Greek Cypriot and I know although Cyprus is a hot country it doesn't take much to rectify this problem so why didn't they, in light of this went to the beach as it was much safer.if you like slumming it then book this hotel with Thomas cook group.

Fantastic holiday,we went with our 17yr old son 14yr old son and 6yr old daughter, and they all loved it.Entertainment was good not too pushy for us who just wanted to watch! Nice clean rooms. All staff very pleasant. The only thing we would say bad is that it was quite expensive in the bar for drinks for a family of 5. We never struggled to get a sunbed while we was there but we did notice how much busier it got towards the end of our 2nd week and there was a few people laying on their towels on the grass.Highly recommend Teejays restaurant across the road and also the red indian which was great too.

Jul 2008, Miss S + A Hunte

me and my boyfriend, Just got back from our 10 night stay at the Vangelis appartments in Protaras, upon arrival we were given our room which was situated in the B Block (cell block H) more like. our so called balcony was a table and chair on a few tiles leading out on top of the carpark, the smell of sewage was discusting, our tap water ran yellow, and was told by the grumpy manager it was due to the heat, the heat that managed to stain most of my clothes rusty yellow..! towels were like sand paper !!!!!!!!!!!
pool area - stayed there for about 10 minutes on the first day, it was a joke, 10 thousand sunbeds all on top of eachother. swimming pool was not very inviting, cloudy as owt tide marks round the edges looked like the water had not been cleaned for months. they also stopped doing food at 12pm around the pool, spent the whole 10 days on the beach and at my mum and dads hotel in ayianapa
Staff - friendly approachable manager - (NOT!!)
if your looking for a nice holiday i would certainly not advise the vangelis appartments.

Jul 2008, Miss C DUFFIN

Just back from Protaras yesterday. My three sisters and I had a brilliant time. The staff at the vangelis were very welcoming and the room was spotless. The pool was lovely and the one stop entertainment staff were very friendly and kept the children entertained throughout the day. The pool bar does some nice snacks throughout the day and the evening bar staff are good craic. One thing I would ay is get up early and claim your sunbed, a few mornings when we had a lie in...10am...we got to the pool and all the beds were claimed by towels (although seemed vacant) - on these days we just went to the beach which is a few minutes walk away and is gorgeous.
In the evening we dined outside the apartment complex. Promises Italian was lovely as was the flame steakhouse we visited ws good value for money and really tasty.
Most nights we ended up the The Rockafella bar or the Greenery where the karaoke was always a laugh.
The bus to Aiya Napa was only Eur1.35 and was Eur20 in a taxi back again which was fine between the 4 of us.
We will def be returning here - there is something to suit everyone

The Vangelis was good but not a 4...

Jul 2008, Mrs L Spencer

The Vangelis was good but not a 4 star as advertised in brochure, would say more 3 star. The rooms were quite large with tv, the kitchen had fridge, kettle, toaster and mini oven but no microwave, the equipment was fine and enough of it. the bathroom was on the small side but not in there long any way. Cleaning wasn't up to much only saw maids once but came about twice during our week stay. The pool was good not too crowded and the kids pool was great, our granddaughter loved it. The pool was a bit dirty round the edges but was cleaned during our stay, sand on the bottom of both pools that seemed to be there all the time. The Entertainment in the day could have been better for a 4 star, not sure what it was like at night as we never stayed in. The only thing we found to complain about was we couldn't sit out on the balcony as there was an awful smell of sewage from somewhere (room 1306) The restaurants were good especially the hippocampus down the road fantastic food. We would go back to protaras but maybe not the Vangelis Apartments.

Jul 2008, Miss A COURT

we visited this hotel with our 3 boys(8,6 & 10 mths) and are parents for two weeks. the two eldest boys had a fantastic time thanks to the one-stop entertaiment team of steve, chico and tom, who kept them thoroughly entertaned.the staff were ok, but could of been alot more helpful, and friendly although this just made it easier to go out every evening and try out all the other great restranants in the area.the rooms were basic but were cleaned every other day.the biggest problem we had was that we had a late flight and were refused a late check-out room although i could of paid 77euros for one! and they suggested i shower my 10 month old son( how many babies that age can stand up in a shower??) but apart from this we really enjoyed our holiday.
