Rated 4 Star??
4 / 10
Oct 2008, sharp

We have just returned from a weeks stay in Vangelis Appartments,Was very dissapointed with this place,it does not deserve to be classed 4 star,we had to search for a clean sunbed that was not broken, the staff were most unfriendly apart from the room cleaner,(who to be fair kept the room clean and gave us clean towels) but only changed linen once. There is not a proper dining room only a covered area with plastic chairs and tables, thankfully we were self catering so went out to eat, there are some lovely restuarants on the strip.Overall the best thing about Vangelis is its location,Protaras is a lovely resort with a great beach and watersports.

Sep 2008, Mrs A Houldridge

Myself and my family have just returned from Protaras. It was the fourth time we have stayed at the Vangelis Apartments and we have always been very happy with the hotel and the staff. It is very well situated, just across the road from the beautiful Thalassaki Beach and close to all the shops, bars etc without being too noisy. Yes the rooms are basic but at the end of the day, you only sleep and wash in your room. May I suggest to all those miserable people that have made awful comments about the Vangelis to either stay at home or choose a five star hotel. You get what you pay for! The staff have always been lovely to us, nothing was ever too much trouble for them and we shall certaintly come back again very soon. Some people just like moaning for the sake of it,. GET A LIFE!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Just returned from the Vangelis after...

Sep 2008, Mr Ian Averill

Just returned from the Vangelis after spending 14 long nights. Not the best place to stay and never a 4 star. Maybe that was a printing error in the brochure and someone added 2 extra ones as a laugh. This place maybe only 6 or 7 years old but the room furniture is from a decade earlier..........must have got it from a fire sale somewhere !
Will keep it short. Poor room, not the cleanest and bed like a concrete slab. Noisy so if you want a quiet time your are wasting your time. During the day you have the entertainment team playing the same music every day. Night time is the worst as entertainment team insist in playing club music that belongs 6 miles along the coast. Dont mind that now and again but not every night. Never in 30 years of traveling have i seen such poor entertainment at a hotel.
Sun beds are all broke and poolside not the cleanest. Never had any contact with the staff myself so cant comment on them.

If you like butlins with sun you will love it but if you want a relaxing holiday your wasting your time.

WOULD never go back ( even if you paid me ) and WOULD never recommend it.

We stayed at these apartments for 2...

Sep 2008, Mrs M AVERILL

We stayed at these apartments for 2 weeks at the beginning of September 2008 and I was very dissapointed with them. They were not clean the furniture was old, broken and tatty and the bathroom was a disgrace.
There were hairs all over the floor the bath leaked and the toilet made the most God awful noice when flushed. The towels were stained and tatty and the sheets were anything but white.
The mirror had most of the backing coming off and the shower rail was just disgusting as was the floor there were little piles of dirt in the corners and mould between the floor tiles.
I couldn't believe we had to pay a deposit for Air Conditioning, Safe Box and TV Remote control even an iron. We paid a 70 Euro deposit for the safe box and air conditioning for two weeks and got 40 Euro back we didn't bother with the TV.
The cutlery in the 'kitchen' was rusty. There was an overall feeling of neglect to the whole apartment. It was depressing and dingy.
The pool side wasn't much better although to be fair people could have been more careful putting rubbish in the bins it would have stopped the plastic tumblers, crisp packets, polystyrene food containers and plastic carrier bags from blowing around and reaching the pool.
The pool itself was fairly clean except for the vents around the side there was a distinct stagnant water smell eminating from it and when I looked down the vents there was black mould, the filters were very noisy you could hear it all night even from our room.
Some of the sunbeds were badly damaged and the covers torn they were also heavily stained.
Getting into and out of the block we stayed in with our suitcases was very difficult there was no ramps only steps, and the foyer seemed to spring a great big leak every other day.
I only had one lunch whilst staying there and it was as dull and tasteless as the hotel.
I found the staff pleasant enough but some of the reception staff were rather dismissive at best, downright rude at times.
There are no redeeming features to this hotel/apartments at all and would not recommend them to anyone.

This Hotel was very basic; it was more like 2 star than 4!
The entertainment was the same thing every night, not good at all.
We were staying in B block; outside of there smelt of sewage everyday, this was very off putting.
The lift felt like it was going to break down at any moment!!
Our room was also very basic, the floor was very dirty when we arrived. It was not modern at all, it is in need of some refurbishment.
We would not go back to the vangelis again!

Sep 2008, mrs wiggle

just come back from the vangelis apartments ,was very appriens ive about going after reading the bad reviews and when we arrived at 2am to be greeted by a very unfriendly receptionist my fears were confirmed, wernt shown our rooms just pointed were to go. because it was laterer on in the season we managedto get a sun bed quite easy at 10am but can imagine in peak season it would be quite hard as the mojority of sun beds are broken or have white paint pealing of them ,we mostly sat near the baby pool as my daugter is only 3 which became more and more cloudyer as the days went by,my eldest daugter 10yr old after only a few days got a severe ear infection which cost us 40 euros to see the doctor and 15euros for medicine all because of the dirty hotel pool,we had taken our ee11 card and insurance but it would of cost 30euros in a taxis to get to the clinic.the resort is very expensive for both drink and food drinks mostly beetween 4 and 5 euros so take plenty of money.the hotel bar closes between 12 and 12.30 make sure you drink up before it closes because they turn the lights of leaving you sat in the dark with your drinks.both me and my husband love cyprus but unfortunatly because of the high prices we wont be going again

This was our 3rd time at the Vangelis...

Sep 2008, Mrs C French

This was our 3rd time at the Vangelis Appartments, and overall we were happy with the holiday. On arriving we had quite a problem with ants in the appartment especially as they were in the cupboards as well, we complained to reception and was left a can of ant spray! Having said that the appartments were maintained very well. The pools are lovely and the Vangelis is very central to all shops, bars and restaurants. We did eat in the restaurant at the Vangelis and the food was very good. Each night was a different theme and we had the carvery meal which was very good and lots of variety. The staff seemed helpful and friendly but beware if you are eating in the restaurant late as they cant wait to snatch your plates away in order to clear up for the entertainment!!! Coming onto that the entertainment was absolutely rubbish! There was an entertainment team if you can call them that, during the day they wandered around the pool trying to get people to play the usual rubbish games, their clothes were filthy most of the time. In the evening the 'shows' were embarrasing to watch and the only good singer they brought in one night had to sing on stage with all of the reps filthy beachtowels hanging up!!! Next years brochure rates it at 4 stars but I wouldnt say so.

These hotel apartments were supposed...
5 / 10
Sep 2008, Mrs J ONEILL

These hotel apartments were supposed to be 4 star but if I'd booked it as a hotel I would have been very disappointed.
As hotel apartments I would also disagree with the rating, it was most definately NOT 4 star, 3 star at most.
The foyer was lovely but did not match the rest of the complex. The apartments were well decorated but inside were basic, but very clean and the cleaner was excellent. The balcony was only big enough for two chairs and table. The beds were a bit lumpy and smelly. We had a 2yr old and his bed was in the living area however he was able to open the door by himself so had to come into our room. The main door needs a suitable lock that young kids can't use.
The pool was large but did not have enough sunbeds to cope with demand. Although there were signs all over saying not to reserve the beds, people did and no one removed the towels exept for one day. After that the schools were back and it was quieter so I don't know if it made a difference or not.
The entertainers were very good but there was nothing for really young kids.
The location is great. It is right in the heart of the "strip" and loads of places have stuff to keep kids occupied.
We went to Flintstones pub which had a play area. The toys were fab, ie climbing frame, bouncy castle etc, but no cushioned floor so if they fall they will be hurt. The food was not too hot either, although my salad was great (steaks not too good).
There are a couple of good places to take the kids with a wee train track, crazy golf, amusements etc. The one nearest the China palace is the best value. There is one beyond the Sfinx but not as good value for food and drink.
Eden Square is great although we did not eat here. There is a good play area at the back with chutes and roundabouts for small kids and you dont have to buy a drink to let the kids play ( but we did!!!)
Big Red Bus tour was good value and the people were really nice, and gave our wee boy a free hat which he gave to his Papa.
We also went on the boat ride from Fig Tree Bay (Countess Napa) which was great - 2 and a half hours of relaxation and sightseeing - good value.
Boss in Ripples bar is very nice, you should go for a drink and nice pub grub. Its at the corner across from Sfinx.
China Palace restaurant was excellent and the best Chinese I have ever had!! (The best sweet and sour Hong Kong/Cantonese style ever!!)
If you are feeling fit go and climb the 177 steps up to the Church beyond the Pheonix Irish Bar (sorry can't remember the name of the Church). It is lovely.
The Pheonix has live music every night too and is very good.
We've been to Protaras 3 times and love the resort. We would not go back to the Vangelis as it is overrated. But we will be back!!

i would rate this hotel no more than...
5 / 10
Sep 2008, Miss J Morrison

i would rate this hotel no more than 3 star it is no where near 4 star, the rooms are very basic and dated and beds are nice if you like sleeping on the floor because they are very hard.
there are four blocks which are really shady with no security what so ever.
the pool is nice but the sunbeds could do with being changed as a lot of them are broken.
the entertainment staff are lovely especially the girls as they couldnt do enough for my little boy.
i didnt eat in the hotel as i didnt like the look of the room they called a resturant.
this hotel would be ok if it was cheaper but it is so over rated and i feel sorry for any family who pays good money becuase it is basic and not good value for money.
i wouldnt stay here again and i wouldnt advise it unless you get a really cheap deal

I am 17 and this was my 6th time in...
7 / 10
Sep 2008, Miss TH Hovell

I am 17 and this was my 6th time in Protaras :)
Previously we stayed at ''Rising Star'' hotel which is down by McDonalds but this year that was fully booked so we searched for a hotel within the same area and managed to book Vangelis :)
*ARRIVAL*
When we first arrived which was at night time, we went to Reception to be told where our rooms were. We had to wait a while before we were actually served + told where our rooms were. We was in the furthest away block, (Being block D I think).
To enter block D we went through a Fire Exit Door as that is the door that we we're told to use!!! We wasn't even shown the main door to the block..
*OUR ROOM*
We got in our room, straight away we didn't like it because we compared it to the Rising Star Hotel which was a lot nicer. Anyhow... it was an okay room, basic..that didn't matter though really, we was only sleeping and showering in there at the end of the day. We decided to go for a walk the night we arrived, go back to the room, go to sleep and hope that things would be better the next day which they was :) Our balcony view was what made it so dissapointing though.. We was on the ground floor, we had 4 people staying in the room being (me, my friend, my mom + her boyfriend) the balcony had 1 plastic table and 2 plastic chairs.
*BAD THINGS ABOUT OUR ROOM*
-Our balcony looked out on to a car park, stones + trees. This wasnt very nice at all. You couldn't sit out on the balcony because there was hundreds of ants all over the floor.
-There was no where to dry your clothes outside like you would be able to if you had a balcony, we ended up putting our towels and swim wear and all that on the table and chairs which ended up covered in ants.
-We left things on our so called balcony to dry over night but this was risky as people could just come and walk over and take it.
-The lock on the back door kept getting stuck.
-We could have done with more towels but there was a room opposite our room full of towels and toilet rolls so I kept taking more out of there!!!!
*BAD THINGS ABOUT THE HOTEL ITSELF*
-We had 2 milkshakes + a packet of crisp and it came to over 7euros so it is quite expensive. You can buy some meals on the menu at a reasonable price but the one day I had a burger it wasn't nice at all..
-One night I was locked out of my room so I went to Reception to get a master key and the male receptionist told me that he could not give me the key to come and open my room because it was a key to all the rooms in the hotel, that was fair enough. I then asked him if he would come and open the door for me and he said no because he couldn't leave the reception with nobody behind it..I thought that was a bit bad, he could have just asked a bar staff to keep an eye on it whilst he came to open the door but no, that wasn't the case, so I was stuck outside my room for a while before my mom arrived back at the room.
-Another occasion me and my friend had been out and arrived back early hours of the morning, we went to the Fire Exit Door which was the only door we we're told to go through to enter our block......and it was locked so we couldn't even get in, we went to reception and we we're shown the main door by the receptionist man just pointing in the direction where it was (not very helpful as you couldn't even see it from where he was stood to show us and he spoke to us like we we're thick + he was sarcastic) Imagine if we we're being followed the night the fire exit door was locked, anything could have happened.
-Pool seemed to get quite dirty throughout the day, was full of young kids which made me think there was a lot of wee + spit in the pool which put me off going in it !!!
-It says in the room in a booklet thing that you can't reserve your sunbeds by putting towels on them but then when you go down to get a sunbed first thing in the morning, everybody has reserved them, so be careful with that, reserve your sunbed ASAP because although there are lots of sunbeds, they all get taken quite quickly!!
-Sun beds are not actually that great, a lot of them are all ripped so be careful :)
*ENTERTAINMENT*
There was 3 entertainers (1 female, 2males (Ashley+Ollie) but during the week of my stay i saw the girl twice in the pool, I didn't see her doing much entertainment.
Ashley + Ollie did a lot of entertainment but it was more for the adults. It was a good laugh though, their always in the pool with the kids an all :)
Didn't stay in the hotel at night so didnt see any of the entertainment that went on at night :) !!!
*RESTAURANTS*
To be honest with you, I never ate out cos I was more bothered about going out to drink :P Me and my friend just went to a supermarket down the road + bought bread rolls, cheese and crisp and literally ate that all holiday although there are lots of places to eat within the area :)
*BARS*
Welllll, if your like me and you LOVE the bars then this you'll love the strip as you walk out of the Vangelis drive :) !!!!
There are a number of bars along the strip although drinks are expensive, in the bars you will pay around 4euros50cent for a WKD and 5euros for a cocktail so it is quite expensive. Me and my friend spent most of our nights in Ghetto Bar, amazing bar staff in there ;) Brilliant up to date English music and a dance floor.. the place to be ;) !!!
When that shut at half 2 a lot of people went to Que club which is like 2minutes from Ghetto Bar, was good in there just to have a dance and few more drinks :)
Theres loads of good, nice bars along the strip but I didn't go to them all :) !!
*CLUBS*
There are only 2 Clubs.. Que Club and then Boogies which is by McDonalds.
*SUPERMARKET*
There are plenty of supermarkets near to Vangelis and I will suggest before you go out that you go and buy drink from the supermarket, it is a lot cheaper :) For example....4euros50 for a bottle of WKD in the bar, go to the super market and you can buy it for 1euro50 :) !! They also sell things such as breakfast, crisp and all that sort of stuff :)
*INTERNET*
There is internet access in the hotel, if i remember rightly you pay 6euros and you get given a card with a number or code or something on it, this has an hours worth of internet time on it so you can just go on it when you want, type in your code and your surfing away. There is also internet access at the bowling place which is left when you turn out of Vangelis :) Am not sure on the prices there though.
*BEACH*
The beach is right near to the hotel, I always used to turn right out of the complex and then if you follow the road you will see on the left hand side there is a long slope, just walk down there and you are on the beach, I then used to walk down to Stephanos Watersports because people there were lovely and I got on with them all really well and their watersports are brilliant :) !!
*SLEEPING*
It was easy to sleep at night, no noise :) Although the beds in the living room area aren't the comfiest things ever but I managed on them for a week..
*TAXI*
My uncle picked us up and took us all to Ayia Napa one night but we got a taxi back.
For two of us it was 20euros.
*LOCATION*
Situated in the perfect location, couldn't be any better, in the middle of everything :)
*AIR CON*
I do reccomend you have air conditioning because before we got it I just could not sleep, it was so hot !! I'm not sure how much it is because my momma paid for it but I think you pay a certain amount and then you get it back at the end :) !
*OVERALL*
Overall I had the best holiday ever, turned out to be we did only need the room to eat, wash and make sandwichs so it was fine!
I'm going to book up for me and my friend to go again next year just purely for the fact of that I love Cyprus, I think it's amazing! But coming back to Vangelis just for the fact of that it's in the middle of everything so everywhere is easy to get to :) The only thing I would ask for is a pool view room so maybe then I would actually have a balcony :)
This is the real truth :) It's taken me a while to write that, and it was my 6th time in Cyprus so I know what I'm talking about :) Hope what I've wrote has helped :)
Tasha.

EXCELLENT HOTEL!
Before leaving I was a little aprehensive about going because I read all the terrible reviews about the hotel from this page, and I was really nervous.
When I arrived I was expecting a rude receptionist, awful smells and prison like conditions, hower to my relief I was checked in within 10 minutes and was helped to my ground floor (as requested) room.
We arrived there at 4 in the morning so didnt really see much.
The next day we went out at around 10.30am and immediately found sunbeds by the little pool which was great for my daughters.
We didnt really eat there very mich but when we did the food was great.
The hotel is about 5 minutes walk from the beach, and is surrounded by bars and restaurants. The entertainment for the children all through the day and well into the night was first class.
We had a fantastic holiday and the fantastic staff at this hotel ony made it more enjoyable. *****

My family (with 5yr old daughter)...
8 / 10
Sep 2008, Mr K Robley

My family (with 5yr old daughter) were a little apprehensive having read some mixed reviews about the Vangelis but we needn't have worried as we had a great stay there. The only negative part was the fact we were given a studio apartment instead of a one-bedroom apartment although the location was good in the complex so we decided to keep it. I believe we weren't the only people to be given a Studio despite booking otherwise so watch out for this. The staff were excellent and very helpful and the rooms were cleaned very regularly and spotless. The atmosphere around the pool was really good and there is a real 'family' atmosphere to enjoy. Nikki, Chico and Oli are good fun but I did feel that they could do more with the younger kids and this did improve in the second week. Before that Chico and Oli did spend more time with the adults and left the younger kids to Nikki too much. There were a lot of people who were staying at The Vangelis for the umpteenth time and, although we won't be returning immediately, we would definitely consider going back in the future. Location in the resort is perfect and Protaras is a superb resort, would recommend a trip to Ayia Napa with the kids though for the fun fair - something that is lacking in Protaras.
