I stayed here for 3 nights In Jan 2011 and really enjoyed myself. The location of the apartments is ideal for everyone. The beach is a short stroll from the hotel, maybe only 5 mins. The town is also only a 5 min walk around the corner. The map makes it look miles away... more

We stayed for 1 week 23 dec 2009. We originally booked Los Alisios, but this and Dunas Caleta are now 'one' resort albeit with a bit of a long walk from the entrance if your staying at LA (Los Alisios). We had to change room after the first day as our door which was badly... more

My wife, little 15 month old girl and I stayed in March 2009 for a week. We believe that it is only fir to review this sort of place in context of the price paid(£198); it was faultless. The room was spotless, the kitchen well appointed and the staff very helpful. We will return!

Security
On our third trip to Correlejo we stayed at the Dunas Caleta - and this was definitely the pick of the bunch. Nice pool area, (although water was absolutely freezing and only ventured in there once in 2 weeks), lots of sun loungers, apartments clean, maid services most days and friendly atmosphere. Location also very good, very close to resort centre, bars and resteraunts etc. The one downpoint of this complex is the security issue. The front door of the apartment is 'patio style' and once you are inside your apartment the door will shut but not lock without the key - my advise to you is to lock yourself in. As the reviewer from Essex, we too got burgled on our last night. I was in the bathroom and my partner was in the bedroom and someone pushed the door open, came in and helped themselves to our money. Totally ruined our last night there. So remember - always lock youself in. The hotel manageress was helpful and sympathic and came to the police station with us as an interpreter - but they do not give an advise or any information on this. I will not be returning to this hotel although I would return to Correlejo as it's a lovely place.
Fun 2nd visit
My wife and our four children (18,15,12 and 5) went here for a break from the UK winter cold during March 2005 and had a great time. The first time we went in Sept 2002 the apartments were very old and tired but renovations were ongoing. These have now been completed and the work has been done to a very high standard. The site is very quiet with no entertainment laid on but there is a sister resort Dunas Caletas and there is stuff to do there if you want to. We liked it the way it was as on our last visit it could get rather noisy around the pool during the afternoon with activities etc but if you want that sort of thing you can go next door. Talking of the pool I should mention that hardly any pools in the Canary Islands are heated so they are "refreshing". The apartments are kept spotless by a group of very hard working maids who should be tipped. The reason we came back here was the fact that the staff are so friendly and it was nice to see that although some of the faces have changed most of them were very nice and pleasant. Corralejo is a lively (for the canaries), cosmopolitan resort with an old town full of locals, lovely little harbour restaurants and a delightful town beach. There is every sort of food to eat from UK pub type food, italian, spanish, mexican, indian and chinese. Recommendations are La Hacienda in La Plaza (a mexican), Don Camillo (italian) and Las Pescaditos down by the Harbour for its stunning views of the Island of Lobos (well worth a visit but go prepared) where we went most mornings to watch the sun come up and see the Lanzarote ferry coming in. They also serve an excellent Vegetarian breakfast. Don't be alarmed by the black tie service at the eateries there you will not be charged black tie prices. For example we had a two course meal for five people and it came to less than £36 at La Hacienda. If you want to see the real Fuerteventura just head inland where you will find little towns like Antigua with little white washed houses that shut down for siestas in the afternoon. You can sit in the town square and just listen to the children playing in the shade as the parents sleep and look around you to realise there is no graffitti or litter. I would recommend this as well as checking out some of the beaches that have been described as some of the most beautiful in the world. My wife and I were lucky enough to take a trip to Mexico and went to a Mayan site known as Tulum where there is a fantastic beach but the beaches in the far south and around El Cotillo match Tulum for beauty if not tempreture. My wife and the two younger children did a jeep safari which was great fun. We went for a drive along a volcanic plain and walked up a volcano, went to two brilliant beaches, had a great meal with wine, drove along the coast and finished up driving along a dried up river bed which due to the bad winter the canaries have had actually had some water in it. We had a great time but I wouldn't recommend it for children less than 8 or people with back or mobility problems or people who don't want to be driven at speed over rough terrain. Our drivers who were young surfers made this a great trip even though we had our 5 year old with us. The two elder children had a catamaran cruise and they thought it was great. Last time we went on a camel safari and we were a bit worried about the animal welfare side of this before we went but please don't worry as these people love and take great care of the camels and you will have a smashing time if you decide to go. There is lots of nudity on this island on the more isolated beaches and if this is going to cause you a problem then I suggest you stick to the main beaches by the hotels where there is less chance of you coming across this. Toplessness is also common everywhere. We lucked out in that we went during Carnival week and so we got free beer, sweets, a parade that can only be described as little Rio and some of the most fantastic fireworks I have ever seen. It is likely we will return in a few years time during Carnival week and I would recommend both Los alisios and Corralejo and I would encourage others to visit.
good
the hotel is generally nice the maid service has improved a lot throughout the years i hav been to this hotel 7 years on a row and will carry on to return. the hotel is very clean and reception staff and the head chef couldnt be nicer. the manager of the complex is really nice now for the bad points the pool is absouloutley freezing its almost like ice and the entertainment is crap it may be good for first time you go there at night but nothing to do during the day especially for teens. there is a lovely town right near if you would like to go go in march there is a terific carnival on every year
Excellent Apartments
The Alisios apartments are extremely good. They are extremely clean, the cleanest I have ever been to. Lots of things are included in your room, such as a microwave, toaster, kettle which I have usually paid for at other apartments. All the staff are extremely polite and it's a great complex for couples and families. The pool is always clean, as is the surrounding pool area. Apartments are on two floors, I stayed on a first floor apartment and the balconies are very spacious and sun traps. I was very impressed and would stay at the Alisios in the future. Also the Island is very beautiful.
Locusts!
We were there 2 weeks, 23 Nov - 7 Dec 2004. A PLAGUE of millions of locusts were blown off-course and landed in Fuerteventura as well as Lanzarote. Some staff at the Dunas were English, one was from New Zealand, but the Canarian staff spoke good English and were all very friendly and helpful. Apartments were clean and spacious with more kitchen equipment than in any other place we stayed before. The pay TV was a bonus but worked out expensive. A very windy place and the sun is NOT guaranteed, when it clouded over the wind became really cold. We were warned that the swimming pool at the Dunas was closed for maintenance. In fact it was being ripped up and re-laid with lots of sawing and drilling noise all day. Our apartment was on the upper floor and the balcony only got some sun in the mornings. Our bedroom faced out onto the back of a petrol station's double car wash and we were woken early by the noise coming from it. The locusts were around for about 3 days but the staff cleaned all areas, you'd never have known there had been a problem. Restaurants to avoid in town are the Tasca where I was given a piece of 'bully beef' described as Entrecote and the service was lousy. Also the Coco Loco, great service but my husband and I were presented with the oldest, toughest, stale tasting chicken breasts, it was an insult and on seeing we COULDN'T even get our knives into it, we were not charged for this 'meal'.
ok in the end
we went to los alisios july 2003,they were in the middle of renovations, although we werent advised of this, having had to change from our booked holiday in another part of corralejo because there were renovations there! we arrived at 7pm and reception were just closing, so we were given keys and directions to our apartment. We went to the back of the complex where there was a 6ft hole with a plank over and several apartments without walls, a building site is best you could call it.in between all this was 1 apartment standing, yep that was ours. I ran back to reception but everyone had gone! so we had no choice but to go in, on opening the door a plague of ants greeted us and the place was filthy. next morning bright and early i stomped to reception who apologised and moved us to a poolside view, this was clean but very very basic. However the staff were very friendly and the pool wasnt bad, and we were given a free meal and safety deposit box for the hassle. We actually did enjoy our stay there and we went back to fuert in july this year and popped back in to have a look, and now building work finished would be quite nice to stay there.
Security
If you are considering these apartments BEWARE whilst the apartments are spacious and the complex and staff have much improved over recent years SECURITY is still an issue with poorly locking windows that are easily breached. We were burgled on our last evening through the window, the side gates at both ends normally closed had been left open, plus night security guard was never seen untill that evening, whilst staff were sympathetic & acted as interpreter at the police station, it still remained a sour end to what till then had been a relaxing holiday. Also the TV meter was robbed in ours and many other apartments during the week and the complex had had numerous break in's during the previous weeks. Plus housekeeping is not of 3* standard, sheets were never changed and on our last day beds were stripped before we fully vacated apartment and counterpains were left in room so are obviously not changed between lets, which is very unhygenic as people do lie on top of beds as well as between the sheets, maid was friendly but it only ever was a quick wipe over, and we were visited by cockroaches in the bathroom each morning. We will not be giving this complex a third chance, we don't blame the staff the faults lie with the complex owners, possibly even with Fuerteventura civil regulator's and especially Thompson's who seem to have a cavelier attitude about their holiday makers health & security!
dont go if you want to sleep at night
We went to Dunas Caleta for 2 weeks in April 2004. We booked with thomson and it was described as a great place for children (although our girls are teenagers) and if you were close to the clubhouse you might experience some noise at night from the entertainment. The resort was lovely with plenty to do. The apartment was adequate. Cleaned regularly. If it rained though you could potentially hurt yourself badly as the paths outside became worse than ice. The entertainment always stopped at midnight so there was no noise from the clubhouse. What spoilt our holiday was the lack of sleep from the noise of drunken youths that used the playground on the complex as a drinking area. Their language was foul, they would run along the outside of the apartments and bomb in the pool. The security there were useless, couldn,t do anything about them. These youths were actually staying at this complex, some of the reps had a word with them and their families, but hey they were on holiday. We like our fun to but getting to sleep around 5am is no joke and if you sleep in the living room you have the pleasure of seeing them urinate against your patio doors. We had 12 out of 14 nights of this. I would love to return to the area but not to dunas caletta.
fantastic holiday
Just got back from dunas caleta had the best holiday i have had in a long time my son who has downs syndrome was welcomed by all staff especially gary and nicky and the kiddies reps. The staff are all very friendly annd the reception staff are very efficient any problems they deal with them imediately. The weekly bbq is very good value and the other entertainment within the complex is excellent. Itravelled as a single mum with my two children but never felt uncomfortable. the appartments are spacious clean and comfortable with all kitchen appliances included at other complexes i have stayed at a rental fee has always been necessary for the little extras. all in all a very good time was had by all
Great Holiday!
Just returned from the Dunas Caleta having spent one week on a self-catering basis. Our party size was 2 adults, 1 child. The complex is Thomson exclusive and there were plently of reps/english speaking hotel staff on hand. Accomodation was nothing fancy, but it was clean and gave us no cause for complaint. The pool area was spacious with plenty of sunbeds, these couldn't be reserved until 9am which made it fair for everyone. Just wander up with your towels just before 9am and you'll have no problem getting a spot. One minor complaint is that the main pool gets too deep too quickly. Entertainment is on every night in the lounge area and is excellent for the kids. Gary & Nicky the resident entertainment staff were very good and non pushy. We only went on one organised excursion during the week and this was to the Oasis Park which was a very enjoyable day out. Top marks to Thomson for the kids clubs which they ran daily - very well organised (and 2hrs peace and quiet for us!) Location of the Dunas Caleta is excellent for both the town and the beachs, the shops/restaurants of Corralejo are very good and the town is very clean/safe. I have been to Corralejo once before in 1993 and since then the whole resort seems to have transformed very positively. Overall it was a very enjoyable stay and I would highly recommend!
