The New Grange Hotel

I use this hotel regularly whilst on business. Whilst not anywhere near 5 star quality (and it doesn't claim to be) it certainly doesn't come close to warranting such a poor review as the one below. The rooms are clean and newly furbished (the suites are quite spacious), the food is very good and generally properly cooked with a real life chef not boil in a bag or 'ping it'(which account for about 90% of establishments these days, even the 5 star variety), so it does take a little longer to arrive, breakfast much better than the average UK... more

Beware this Hotel! It is an old building, supposedly re-furbished but its tired, drab and shabby. The room I had was like something from Draculas Castle. There was constant noise through the night from traffic outside and doors banging. The staff were coldly polite and surly - no welcome at all. Restaurant staff didn't seem to care. My son recently held his wedding at this Hotel which is now named Hotel Bannatyne as it is part of the Duncan Bannatyne (one of the entrepreneur's in the Dragon's Den) business empire. I was a little concerned having read earlier comments on this site but clearly there is a new broom sweeping clean. The Hotel couldn't have done more to ensure that the bride and groom and all their guests had all that they desired. Stayed here for one night in an executive single, breakfast included but did not partake, had to catch early train. An older hotel that has been refurbished. The room was a good size with a separate living room area that had a couch, tv, CD player. Nothing special about the bedroom, queen size bed with desk, coffee/tea bottled water in room. Decent size bath. Room came with a nice tray of fresh fruits and chocolates. Good for a short stay.
