The guest house itself was not in any way luxurious. When we arrived the front door was locked and there was a little confusion of how to get in as there were no signs and no answer to our knocks. However, by chance someone was coming out of the hotel and we managed to get in eventually.
The hotel itself was a typical welsh house, a rabbit warren of corridors and rooms on three floors and clearly very lived in. The room we had was ensuite and to our surprise we could not see a door in our room that led to the ensuite shower and toilet. There was however a 3 foot by 7 foot, what looked like a cupboard that housed the ensuite, which seemed a bit peculiar. The hotel was reasonably clean and the family who owned it were friendly if not a little intimidating - in presence not manner - as the men were big burly and tattooed.
Swansea as a town is beautiful, a long, wide, white sanded beach stretched for a good 2 miles alongside the town, and only a road's width from our hotel. Fans of windsurfing would be in their element here as the winds pick up alot of speed there and there were a number of windsurfers out enjoying the surf.
The town centre and Quandrant shopping centre offer a wide variety of national and local stores to find pretty much anything to buy.
On our second night we went to the Grand Theatre to watch a comedian. I personally recommend a trip to this ornate theatre if you get the chance and fancy one of the diverse range of shows on offer.
There was a number of things we didn't experience such as walking in the mountains that provide a backdrop to the town although we had a meal at a very unique curry house situated in an old church. The food was great, the prices were good and the setting was a nice get-away from the usual Balti house set-up. The restaurant was called Minh's
Overall, I rate Swansea to be the perfect British holiday destination, for most people, offering culture, entertainment and a fantastic nightlife. I would also recommend the well priced hotel we stopped at, but not to families.
