Disappointing
from NicolaEngland
We stayed at the Ambassador for 3 days in Aug 2007. Unfortunately, I was very disappointed with the hotel. The main reason for this was the food, which I found almost to the point of being inedible! The location of the hotel is superb though, and we had a great sea view room (although paid dearly for this privilege). Swimming pool area could be cleaned up a bit as it looks rather dirty looking. Also, would agree with the comments about the Manageress - she could certainly do with some customer service training. I think the hotel has a lot of potential, but sadly needs new management to fulfil this.
Lovely Hotel by the Sea

We had a lovely stay at the Ambassador Hotel in Scarborough. I liked that we had free parking. And it was good value for money for the evening meals. And lovely sea views from the room and in the restaurant and bar. Excellent entertainment as well, very professional. Overall i would definately stay here again, and highly recommened it.
Disgusting!!
from lynnmcd13
This hotel is absolutely disgusting!! We paid 120 quid for our "Diplomat" double room. When we arrived in the room, it was the size of a shoebox!! We were part of a wedding party and had people who would be changing in our room, so this was not going to work (and I was astounded at the room size/quality for what we had paid. I went to the front desk and asked if we could get a larger room because we would have people in our room getting ready for the wedding. They did upgrade us to a large, sea view room at no charge. That was very nice. The room, while nice view and large, was extremely dated and dirty. The carpet was old and tired, the bed was old and sagging, the bathroom was dated and the bathroom carpet smelled of urine. It was just disgusting. We also had to pay 10 quid extra to check in at 12:00pm, so we could get ready for the wedding. At the prices we were paying, this was ridiculous. They will ask you if you want a paper in the morning….you pay for it (and they don’t tell you). Check out is at 10:30am …I would expect that time from a bed and breakfast, but not a hotel charging these rates. We also found out later that the bride and groom were in a side room with a view of a brick wall. They mentioned that they had a very small room. I felt bad that we had a better room than the bride and groom! We were moved into our large, sea view room at the last minute, which means it had been available for the bride and groom…… Overall, this hotel is over priced, tired, and dirty. It definitely is the worst hotel I’ve ever stayed in. I’ve never written a negative review before, but our stay at the Ambassador hotel impelled me to write this review. DO NOT STAY HERE!!!!!!
Dissatisied and dissapointed.

Stayed at the Ambassador 11th - 13th May. Found when we arrived they had booked us in under the wrong name. Quite dissapointed with the unfriendly manner of the manageress. Found that the £20 supplement pppn to weekend stay didnt apply to other guests and most dissapointingly of all, at the end of the stay, the manageress tried to charge VAT on the bill when we had been informed by post that VAT was all inclusive. Allthough we liked Scarborough would not return to this hotel.
Management response from managess

This gentleman did not understand that when we give out bills that the VAT shown on the bill is just a breakdown of the charges the bill given was the same price that was quoted and that VAT is a goverment charge and not a hotel levy.
fantastic stay

What a great place , we had our wedding at the hotel. They pulled out all the stops, the sit down meal was fantastic and the evening buffet was more than we could manage. Our room had a great view of the castle and harbour the staff were friendly and the chefs were fantastic.
oh dear, not again!

We had been to the ambassador before no problems. Returned for a second time and i wondered why we ever went back. We went for our dinner asked for apple sauce had run out and then my nan found a screw in her starter about two inches long! we then got our main meal it was just warm and did not have many vegetables for three of us. Found the manageress very unfriendly and nort very polite would not return here again. i feel since changing managers they will lose alot of business. the manager before was lovely and friendy shame he had to leave. Thius hotel needs to improve big time
Great stay by the Sea-Side
from Mrs.Whitey48
We have just returned from the Ambassador Hotel for a Twixmas Break. We stayed in a lovely Premier room on the front with sea views of the bay. The staff are friendly the service is good the rooms are clean. And the evening meals were to die for! We could also take our 2 little dogs which was a plus, as many other hotels in the area do not except them. The swimming pool is lovely and warm, and the entertainment is was good fun. We hope to return the Ambassador as we visit Scarborough a lot, and with its perfect location and good value for money will would love to stay here again.
Never again!

We booked a disabled friendly room by phone and had it confirmed on the booking form. On arival wrong room allocated but eventually got the right one. Had then to get the ramp door opened for my wife to get in, who meanwhile was waiting outside for 10 minutes. Just as well it wasn't raining. On checking the room the bed cover was all marked. The ensuit was far from sweet. It was all cleaned over the next 2 days but left a lot to be desired. The menu looked great but what a waste of good food. The crockery was dirty and you were put off by the grubby nenu cards on the breakfast table. The entertainment was good but getting a seat was difficult as non residentscame to watch and join a rather "happy" guest which was a distraction for all. This was to be a treat for my disabled wife and thought with a 3star hotel at least the basics would be OK. What a dissapointment.
Great room and lovely food

This hotel is pretty good. We stayed in room 315 which I would reccommend. It's big with a fabulous balcony with patio doors and a panoramic view. We had a look in some of the other rooms and they were much smaller and quite dark. If you are staying here, book a large premier room with either a balcony or a bay window. The housekeeping is really good. They make up the beds really well and dust all surfaces, leave fresh towels etc. The breakfast is good and the dinner excellent. The dinner is just £10 extra per person per night for 5 really good quality courses. The soup is home made and the vegetarian dishes are fresh and imaginative. I would definitely reccommend this hotel but I think only if you can book a premier sea view room.
Disorganised
from Sussex Wanderers
Our standard room was tucked away in a corner of the hotel and lacked sunlight. It was clean but undersized for a double room. The bathroom needed an overhaul. We had a shower and a bath, but sadly, if too many guests decide to bath/shower at the same time, expect cold water as the system cannot cope. You have to book your dining time each day. Don't try to block book for the week, reception tends to forget your booking. It did with us. The dining room was well laid out and the meals were very good. Unfortunately the service was at times hit and miss. Waited 25 minutes and 5 requests for the wine waiter on the first night. It improved as the week went on. Our starter, soup and main course arrived at well spaced intervals but waiting for the dessert and coffee could be quite lengthy. The staff were not allocated set tables and therefore you may be offered your menu more than once! Don't go too early for breakfast. You may find a coach party queueing at the door, and the hot breakfast buffet is incapable of coping with a large influx of people. 9.00 a.m. is a better time when it is more quiet. If everybody in the hotel decides to stay for the nightly entertainment in the bar/lounge area then be quick to get a seat as there is insufficient seating available. There is a very small dance floor which would probably accommodate 10 people at a squeeze. We upgraded to a premier sea view and we found the quality was worth the extra cost. This hotel is used by coach parties which could explain some of the problems with the dining area. This hotel needs to get more organised. Their staff are very friendly but the service could benefit greatly from a review of their staffing arrangements. We do not think we would return to this hotel.
This isn't the first review of this type on here, ( i point you towards "filthy room - rude duty manager" and "opted for a 2 hour drive home..") I'm just emphasising that you shouldn't be drawn in by the pictures of this place! The general consensus seems to be that the... more
