we arrived near midnight on 28/9/2008 and were exhausted from travelling and our greeting from staff was matter of fact only words exchanged were room numbers and not much else.the rooms were clean if not a bit dated in decor and if you do book into this hotel definitely make sure your room is facing the poolside, ours was overlooking the street facing the square bar and mc donalds and it is very noisy and theres not much to look at.we could have change but as our greeting on arrival wasnt the warmest we couldnt be bothered with the hazzle. some of the staff were fine however the guy in the hotel rope bar was the most friendliest and helpful and the most scariest is the night porter!he looks like the walking dead and has the personality to go with it,we found him sleeping in the lobby twice.
the layout of the pool was good plenty of loungers and the food at snack bar was lovely. the lifts in hotel are small, bathrooms and balconcies as well. good selection at breakfast time we only had one evening meal but didnt realise till near end of our holiday we could have had our lunch instead of evening meal. you could have paid for kettle or fridge for your room a bit pricey for the week.overall the hotel is central to bars, restaurants and 5-10 mins from beach. the best places for eating out were waves for snacks, super s (near sweet memories apts)is the friendliest and we loved the friends bar.

I would not recomment this Hotel, the room we were offered was very small the bathroom you had to close the door to turn around in it. The tiles were cracked around the bath-room, the tiles were dirty, a good bleach would have made a difference.

The carpeted bedroom floor were old and dirty as was the bed-spread cover.

We moved to a slightly bigger room, about one metre sq. bigger, but same decor., in need of complete refurbishing.

Air-con, useless, more air coming out of a baloon., and as we had only one key, and did ask for two, one each, the air-con, never got a chance to get to work fully as when you took key out of light switch all electrics were switched off.

Reception was not very friendly, and was looking 12 Euro per night extra for change of room as we complained immediately we saw the size of our room. After paying for a room for 2 adults he did not get his 12 Euro from us., as we stuck to our guns and reported to our rep. Other couples were also complaining about the lack of cleanliness. 90% of guests were English.

Hotel is not 2oo metres from beach, it is more like 700metres or a good 10-15mins walk in the heat, down the street.

Would not book here again, entertainment zero, the only plus mark I would give was the breakfast meal was a good variety.

Just got back from 1 week in the "ye old Kapetanious bay hotel" !!!!we stayed on the 4th floor facing the McDonalds sign and facing onto the main strip. Our room was very basic with a carpeted floor!!!,2 single beds having asked for a double,no fridge, kettle, safe or hobs and a very noisy air conditioning system. We was only B&B basis but expected a fridge at least. The hotel was very old with a picture in reception 20 years ago and nothings changed. The hotel staff wasnt very friendly at breakfast time we went a full week without any staff being sociable.(eveything ok,morning,Thankyou etc).Indoor pool out of use under construction!!!,indoor Gym closed under construction without any communication from rep or staff on arrival. The only positives i can think of was the pool area with lots of beds and umbrellas and the variety for breakfast.oh and the cleaners were in everyday. We got talking to a lad working in a bar on the strip and he told us that our hotel was the local travel lodge and that put 2 and 2 together when the hotel was full with locals at the weekends.Due to our flights we only had 6 nights in the hotel after booking 7.The hotels food and drinks were very expensive so we used the shop on the corner. We would definately go back to Protaras but stay clear of this hotel. This hotel was only bothered about 1 thing MONEY!!! not customer care.

Its the first time ive been to the resort of Protaras and of course to this hotel. Protaras itself is a very nice place and can get busy a lot at night with numerous bars and restaurants to go to. The Hotel itself had nothing majorly wrong with it and for the week i was there it was good. The rooms were basic but i was expecting that anyhow, we had to pay extra for the Fridge which was a must for us especially for the month of July and it being in the 40's over there. The Air Con was good to start with but seem to have packed in within a couple of days making the night time very hot and not nice to sleep in.

The Decor wasnt brilliant to the state of it being modern or new, but it was adequate for the amount of time i spent there. The maid service was decent although i dont think they change towels often enough and most of the week i had one towel to use which isnt too great. The room was kept tidy though by them which is enough for myself.

The Pool wasnt massive but it was pleasant. It was always cleaned in the morning which was a good thing to see and because of the size of the pool it was good that most of the British and even other foreigners were interacting with each other. The surroundings of the pool, ie deckchairs and umbrellas etc were nice to sit on and didnt see any that needed replacing.

The Breakfast: For a week it was brilliant! I think if i had of stayed there for two then it may have got a bit tedious with the selection. There was always something new on the buffet at breakfast which was good to see and the food always was at a good standard.

The Resort: The resort is right at the top end of Protaras and if you wish to visit the main bars and also Fig Tree Bay it is quite a walk. Also another downside is the McDonalds next to it, but to be honest it didnt bother me at all while i was there. You may have read some that stated you can touch the sign, yeah it is close but not that close and if your on the 3rd and 4th floor towards the end side of the hotel then it will be in the way of the view. The Dancing waters and clubs nearby hardly stay on deep into the night, the main bars finishing with the singing and karaoke at about 1am at the latest.

I would recommend the holiday to young couples and young people, like myself, as its that kind of place for entertainment and clubbing wise, Families with young kids would also probably find it enjoyable but that depends on taste.

I havent got much bad things to say about Protaras as a whole and even though ive been to the Paphos end of Cyprus aswell there is a slight difference in the way things are done, Paphos being the much quieter town than Protaras at night. The hotel had no bad things against it, the hotel staff could of been a bit more helpful when we asked for a late check out room and other problems we faced but i would still definately consider going there again.

Just back from 2wks staying here. Thought the hotel was fab. The staff were VERY helpful and coudn't do enough. Breakfast is the usual stuff but if you don't like what the restaurant has you can go to other places. really enjoyed my stay. This is 6th time in Proteras it has changed alot in the 11yrs since our first visit. Proteras is very busy at this time wouldn't go back to resort at this time of year again but still very friendly. In the hotel having a room with a vie of the strip is so noisey but we got a room changed no bother. Would recommend this hotel to most people unless you want a holiday away from it all.

Thank you all the staff at the hotel especially Diana in the restaurant who visited me when I was stuck in hospital when my family had to fly back to UK.

My husband and I stayed at this hotel last July (2007) and have booked again for 2008.

A short review. Clean rooms-friendly staff and good food compared to other Cypriot/Greek hotels. Close to all bars, restaurants and the beach.Great staff. Bar is reasonable for drinks and the quality is excellent. The change to the euro may have an effect on prices but all in all a lovely hotel. As we hardly ever go to a hotels entertainment I have nothing to say about any which might be provided by this hotel.

A good base for exploring the south east coast.

My partner and I have visited this hotel every year since 2000, going twice a year for the last 3 years. We have made many friends over the years including locals and others from various parts of the UK who return same time every year.

The maids provide daily clean towels and bed linen twice a week, nothing is too much trouble for them and as soon as they see my partner (at 6'4" it is not difficult) they remember he likes an extra pillow and rush to find him one. Some rooms are smaller than others but if this is a problem ask reception staff if another room available and they will be happy to help. If I have to find a fault it would be the food which, I think could be improved.

The breakfast has variety but it is repeated every other day and if the small sausages are on please avoid them as they are never fully cooked. There is a Dancing Waters Show next door but this has never caused us a problem as it is finished by 10pm at the latest. Plenty of lovely restaurants in the resort one of which is Oscars across the road from the Hotel, it may be a little bit more expensive than some but the food, and service is superb. Also try Astoria which is short walk down the strip and turn 1st right by Waves bar for the best Steak Dianne or Plank Steak which is literally served on a plank of wood.

There is a beautiful small Church up a hillside which is illuminated at night and can be accessed by turning right as you leave Hotel and walk along left side of main road, it involves climbing many steps so is not for the faint hearted but the views are stunning and at rear of Church are some incredibly touching notes tied to a tree by visitors. If you want a touch of home and fancy fish and chips, turn left as you leave Hotel and visit Mr Cod. Now that the borders have been opened and if you are interested in the history of the island then a visit to Famagusta is a must if a bit sad.

If you book this trip don't do it with your rep, the local bus company has its office in nearby Paraliminni and they do same trip at a fraction of the cost. Reception will call them for you and bus will pick you up and drop you off at Hotel, simply pay driver. If you walk short way down strip and turn right by Waves bar, this takes you straight to the beach, when you get there turn left and walk alongside the sea edge (can get bumpy so not easy for buggies) and you will come across a cafe set in a little garden on the sea edge. This is one of my favourites for an afternoon snack, it is so peaceful just looking out to sea, and the food is good.

I would recommend hiring a car as there is so much to see and do on the Island, if you get a jeep and try going off the beaten track you can find some beautiful secluded coves, Troodos Mountains are also well worth a visit. I am taking my sister in May with us this year and then my partner and I will return in September.

My husband and I went to Cyprus for my sons wedding and although I was worried as I am a disabled lady I could not have wished for better.

I had been given a room on the first floor, but as soon as they found out this was not suitable our room was changed to the second floor which had a lift. The room was plenty large enough the bathroom was big enough for me to work in and the cleaning staff were superb, friendly and helpful.

The town was very nice but disabled access could be better.

We found a lovely restaurant called The Secret Garden, round the corner which served great food and was very reasonable, the English waiter couldn’t have been more helpful.

All in all we had a brilliant time .

Kapetanios Hotel was ideal for our first stay in Protaras. It is right at the top end of the strip so gave us the opportunity to sample a varied selection of bars and restaurants.

Every restaurant we tried was good (maybe we were just lucky) but I would recommend the Ghetto bar for £1 cocktails from 6-10pm and TJ's for the brilliant singer Sammi. Don't miss her if you get a chance to go.

The hotel itself was kept very clean and staff were without exception helpful and friendly. The only faults I could find really were the size of the bathroom and also the balcony is quite small.

The breakfast each morning was practically always the same but quite extensive so you could choose different foods if you wanted. Basically there were fried eggs, scrambled eggs, boiled eggs, bacon, sausages, baked beans, tomatos, and sometimes a potato dish.

There was always cereal, yoghurt, sliced cheeses, cold meats etc., and you could make your own toast. There was also some kind of cake which I never tried. It would have been nice to have some fresh fruit but unfortunately the only fruit on offer was canned fruit cocktail.

The swimming pool was a good size and there was also a toddler pool.

Having read about the rooms overlooking McDonalds and the dancing water show I was concerned but needn't have worried, as any noise generally finished by about 12.30.

Although if you have young children it would be best to ask for a room overlooking the pool which should be quieter.

I would definitely stay there again.

My boyfriend and I went to Protaras in the hope that we could have our wedding there the following year. We were not disappointed.

Absolutely loved the place. The Kapetanios Bay was a lovely hotel, only 3 star but clean, tidy, great food etc.

Only problem we received was that we asked for a quiet room, only to find that we faced the main strip, opposite a bar with Elvis Presley impersonator playing until 3am! So no sleep the first night, but we asked to be moved at reception the next morning, and it was not a problem. Nice friendly staff.

I thought Cyprus would be just like Greek Islands I had been to, but it wasn't - it was 100 times nicer! The water is so clear in Protaras, I expected the brochure to have been 'doctored' to make it look bluer than it is, but it wasn't.

The place is stunning. So we are now going back Oct 07 to get married. If you are just looking for a holiday in a nice clean place with good service, Kapetanios would be my first choice.

Protaras as an area has everything you need; lots of restaurants including Chinese, Indian, and Italian and of course traditional Cypriot. There is a lovely little church on the hill which you can walk to. Absolutely stunning views from up there.

Enjoy!

I and My husband went to Protaras for our honeymoon.

The Hotel was clean and tidy, and our room was clean and tidy also with a balcony overlooking the pool which was very nice, but the room was very basic.

As a honeymoon couple we received a free private candlelit evening meal which we thought was fantastic.

We booked that for the second night we were there, got dressed up headed down to the restaurant only to discover our romantic candlelit meal was in the closed off part of the dining room with a candle which every table had.... having said that the meal was fantastic (the only one that holiday) and the waiters made us feel very special.

The food itself in the hotel wasn’t anything special.... we were on bed and breakfast, we would get up nice and early, 8am, (after being woken up by the maids just coming in the room while we were still sleeping wanting to strip the beds and not understanding us when telling them to get out even though we had put the "do not disturb" sign on the door) only to find sloppy scrambled eggs and not much else.

In the end we ended up having jam on toast! :-( We found the food in Protaras very expensive and not very nice so we ended up most days going to McDonalds just outside the hotel for breakfast and lunch and pizza hut just down the road for dinner!

Although the last few days we were there we found and really nice English run pub called "Return of the King" which had fantastic food and great entertainment!

I’ve rated Protaras 9 out of 10 simply because apart from the maids and the food, Cyprus was an absolutely fantastic holiday, we had hired a car and gone all over Cyprus from one end to the other the views and the people were just out of this world.

We also visited Egypt on a 3day cruise which was also awesome!

We hope to go back to Protaras again in the future for a second honeymoon, but I think we will stay at a different hotel.

Me and my boyfriend went to the Kapetanios bay on the 9th of July 2006 and we had a great time.

When we first arrived I have to admit I was a bit worried about the location as McDonalds is right outside. Fortunately we got a room on the back overlooking the pool which was really nice.

The hotel room was nice and we thought the food from the poolside snack bar was really nice.

The hotel is in a great location for everything especially Flamingo beach which was beautiful. We did go to fig tree bay but found it very crowded.

We did a boat trip one day from the beach which only cost five pounds and we found it interesting and it didn’t drag on for too long.

The nightlife in Protaras was good but there were too many tribute acts for our liking. The best bar by far was the Ghetto Bar, cocktails a pound until ten pm music great and the bar owner was a character!

There is a massive selection of restaurants the best we ate in where Olympus, very friendly waiters nice food. Also try the Corner restaurant and Andama restaurant. Don’t eat in the Basilica restaurant food awful!

Just got back from our Honeymoon in Protaras. As a former Live Singer in the Paralimni area, knowing the area well, decided that the Kapetanios Bay Hotel was the ideal location as it is at the very start of the main 'strip' of bars and entertainment.

The hotel staff were amazing, so helpful and friendly 10/10 for them. The room was a bit basic and if you require tea and coffee facilities in your room you have to pay extra just for the kettle and cups (shop outside hotel sells brew kit and milk jiggers). We had maid service daily and the room was air conditioned with a balcony.

The food was ok at best although I noticed when the hotel was very busy, the standard did go down a little as it was a buffet-style breakfast and it seemed to me the chef was struggling to get food out quickly enough. Could do with a better choice on the English breakfast side too to be honest.

The pool area was fabulous, lovely big pool with shallow and deep end and very clean, baby pool, plenty of sunbeds and canopies, reasonably priced pool bar, nice bar snacks etc.

The hotel only had entertainment on once for the whole fortnight as the first Saturday we were there a private party was held in the pool area. The entertainment on a whole in Protaras varied really, we saw some awful acts and some mediocre and one or two good ones. There are alot of Karaoke and Tribute Acts now, most of which are under 25 years old. Also, entertainment gets pushed to one side or postponed when there's football on. Although I love football myself, it was very annoying to see a young entertainer giving it their all to an audience who were glued to the television.

Generally the hotel is good, is in an excellent location and there are room and board upgrades available if you require them for a small fee. Also I would recommended it for couples and retired people as the family part of the hotel is in a separate block called Somantonia Apartments.

Having booked our holiday to this resort at a good discount price our purchase confirmation read that we had purchased 7 nights accommodation in the hotel on a half board basis.

However, the first night we were flying from the UK and did not arrive until 6 am. On arrival I was informed that the room was reserved from before the time we took off from UK.

Consequently we had paid for a night that we did not have and an evening meal that we did not have. Fortunately we arrived in time at the hotel for breakfast or we would have missed that as well, although we had paid for it.

I took this issue up with the Argo rep who informed me that this is the way they do this, as they think people will not want to wait until earliest check in time of 2pm and want the room already reserved for them.

I would have been happy to wait to check in, as the luggage could have been placed in the luggage room until 2pm and we could have gone out for the day until this time. I was disappointed not to have been given that option which would have saved me the cost of a nights accommodation.

Furthermore, we paid for an excursion in a coach with Argo that cost £90, but would only have cost £20 with another tour operator just outside the hotel. Unfortunately, I was unable to know exactly what the excursion included until we were on the coach.

Hotel staff were friendly and rooms were clean. Food was ok. There was no evening entertainment and we were informed after we arrived that it begins in May. This was not mentioned on the website.

As regular visitors to Cyprus, we have come to love Protaras. This is an ideal family resort with lots to offer. Built up over the years to provide great facilities. Cyprus is the ideal place to hire a car and explore the island. Over the years we have found some lovely places and met some very nice people.

We've tried different styles of accommodation ranging from self catering to 5 star all inclusive.

The hotel is ideally situated, with a host of fantastic restaurants within easy reach, and making for a pleasant evening walk.

Although small the hotel facilities proved adequate for our children, who made many friends and left us alone to have a peaceful time around the pool during the day or in the bar later at night.

In an evening the hotel does offer some entertainment however this is very limited, therefore we didn't stay around the hotel in the early evening. We ate out every evening and then walked back to the hotel via a few of the bars. We then happily sat in the hotel bar, (drinking the best Tom Collins on the Island) chatting with other guests, many who have been there several times. The children (aged 9, 13 & 15) mixed happily with their new found friends.

During the day the pool bar offered lovely food at reasonable prices. Alternatively you can always go next door to McDonalds.

I would recommend the hotel without hesitation to those looking for a relaxing small hotel with just enough facilities, easy to get out and about. Don't be put off by the initial approach to the hotel, its looks from the outside, as we initially where. This hotel is a little gem.
