We stayed at Petite Brietta the last week of May 2008, arriving at Figari airport (southern part of the island). The drive from the airport to the villa takes 3 hours. A better option would be to fly into Bastia airport (nothern part of the island) and probably only about 1 hour drive from the villa.
The villa is in a beautiful setting just 4 km from the town of St. Florent, along a narrow bridle way, set amidst fields. It is a most peaceful location. The approach to the house along the bridle way is very bumpy and we stalled the car several times on our first drive up this way. It gets better with experience, but no less bumpy. The house itself looks very inviting from the outside and on arrival we were greeted by the owner Pascal you showed us around the property. Later that day the tour rep Elizabeth arrived at the appointed time to make sure all was ok and advised us on things to do and places to go.
The villa is spacious and accommodated 5 adults without feeling that we were on top of each other. The overall standard of the villa is good, with three good sized double bedrooms, one bathroom (shower only), one toilet, one bathroom(shower only)/wc en-suite, a kitchen/lounge/diner with tv, 2 sun terraces with table and chairs, and a lovely pool with sun loungers. The decor is modern and furniture and fittings are comfortable, with a dishwasher and washing machine as well as a fridge/freezer and microwave. There is no oven, but a gas-fired bbq outside.
We had a welcome hamper with food on arrival including water/juice/milk and wine in the fridge. Bedsheets, towels as well as large towels for the pool are all provided.
Due to stormy weather we found ourselves without water and electricity one evening, but a call to the tour rep and the owner arrived within 30 minutes to re-set the power supply. The same happened again on the morning of departure, but there was no time to get matters sorted before we had to leave for the airport at 6 am.
The town of St. Florent is a short drive (10 mins) along country lanes and has many very nice cafes and restaurants - our particular favourite was the L'Europe Restaurant (part of the hotel by the same name) by the harbour for its setting, service and quality of food. Also in town you will find a supermarket (Spar) as well as a fish monger, bakery, delis and wine shops, as well as many other shops selling clothes etc. Don't forget to try the wonderful artisan ice creams available in town. There is plenty of parking available, with the Spar car park, the far end of the marina and the area around the castle being free of charge.
When driving in Corsica it is advisable to book a small car only, as the roads in the countryside and villages are very narrow, so aim for the size of a Renault Clio if the size of your party allows.
We travelled with Thomson - the first time we had used a tour operator for many years. We could not have been more pleased with the smooth management of the check-in at Gatwick airport as well as at Figari airport. ThomsonFly aircraft was clean and the cabin crew very efficient. The tour rep in Corsica was always just a text message away and responded/acted promptly to any messages. Overall very impressive.
