Hollin Hall Hotel reviews

6 / 10
Jun 2007, Mrs F Stubbs

Hotel was in lovely setting and the old part of the building was very nice. Communal parts very clean, breakfast had large choice and good personal service. We were disappointed with the quality of the room though. One wing had very poor natural light with a huge brick wall... more

the best day of our lives!!!
As you well know a wedding day is the most important day of a brides life and i must say my now wife had a faiy tale wedding. We can not praise the venue highly enough. Having read the recent reviews i felt it necessary to view our opinions as i cant recognise this place to be the same as our experience there.
Promises much delivers little!
When we booked this venue for a wedding the manageress was extremely helpful unfortunately, very few of her staff were. They didn't want to know even when we were asking for them to do the things they had agreed to do when we booked. The booking system was awful. Many of the guests were given the wrong prices, the wrong rooms, no rooms at all and dirty rooms. One couple drove all the way from London arrived in the small hours and their room was so dirty they decamped to another hotel nearby. With the exception of one of the night... more
Absolutely Terribly - Don't Stay Here
We held our wedding here, it was a terrible experience. Everything the negative reviews say was out experience too. Rooms were dirty (not shabby or in need of renovation but dirty including blood stains - some of our guests refused to stay in them including a A&E doctor who declare his offered room as too unhygienic to be contemplated), room bookings were mishandled so some of our guests were told the day before our wedding they didn't have anywhere to stay, staff unhelpful (see below), organisation was lacking (Fawlty Towers is an... more
a great christmas do
we stayed at this hotel after a christmas works "do" and were very pleased with the value for money. It is a little quirky with lots of corridors but our room was very comfortable; the breakfast room was light and cheerful and the staff were really pleasant; we would definitely stay here againg next year. The only negative point was that smoke from the cocktail bar driftsinto the reception area which is a shame; but when the non smoking law comes into force this should be problem solved!!
The Customer Is Always Irrelevant
I attended a wedding at the hotel recently which was fine. However my partner and I had the misfortune to stay at the hotel as well. The room was dirty, the cold bath tap wasn't working, the t.v. was a green colour and there was no shower gel. The levelof service from the staff resembled fawlty towers. The hotel needs a general makeover although the conservatory restaurant wasn't bad. Because the hotel obviously does a good trade in weddings it doesn't bother about the people staying there.
Loved IT! Hope to return again soon.
We recently stayed at Hollin Hall while touring through England. It was our last stay as it was close to Manchester airport. It was absolutely lovely from start to finish. As soon as you arrive you were greeted with a sense of peace and quiet. The reception desk were friendly and accomodating. The rooms were nice and spacious. We had a family room, so actually had two adjoining rooms which was very nice. I have read some of the posts regarding room shabbiness - we had booked a total of 6 rooms throughout the hotel and all were in... more
Disappointing Hollin Hall
I spent one night at Hollin Hall recently for a relative's wedding. I'd agree with some of the previous reviews regarding the main 'house', which was in good order. In fact the new conservatory was an excellent location for the wedding ceremony and the function room was fine. But the rooms are another story. They really need some serious modernisation, and many of the rooms are in various stages of refurbishment. Our room had bathroom tiles that had been painted over to make them look clean! Pretty disappointing for a big chain like Best... more
Friendly but in need of modernisation
When you approach Hollin Hall from the outside, it looks absolutely stunning - like a beautiful stately home almost. Sadly inside, it's a very different story. The whole place has a tired 70s feel. The room we had was terribly dated and musty with a dark, old-fashioned decor. The shower was pathetic and the bed creaky. Perhaps the rooms in the main body of the house are nicer - ours was in the extended part of the house (presumably built some time in the last 30 years) and were just tatty. Despite these gripes, the breakfast in... more
hidden gem?
Tucked away it certainly is and unless you check directions beforehand it can be hard to find but it's all worth it! It has a very cosy lounge and a gorgeous dining room but the bedrooms in the modern extension are a bit bland though well-appointed. Nice views from the hotel.
Another Best Western in need of an overhaul
This hotel is tucked away and I am sure I would have struggled to find it without SatNav. The hotel had the following good points; Quiet location (perhaps hard to find). Reasonable food in the Restaurant and not too expensive. Restaurant recently refurbed. Nice new sauna. Bad points were; Pathetic shower with extreme hot/cold tendencies. Rooms very dated in need of refurb (as is most of the hotel). Gym equipment in need of replacement. I didn’t have breakfast but according to a colleague... more
