Great stay
Booked this hotel last minute, on a family visit to crewe. Room was very clean and spacious. Did not book a non smoking room but requested on check in, staff were very helpful and gave me a non smoking room. Arrived after the restaurant had closed but was still able to obtain a meal which was of a very high quality and very good value for money. Would recommend this hotel to anybody staying in the crewe area.
Fantastic Hotel Meeting All My Needs
Warmly greeted by the very friendly reception staff and occupied a newly refurbished bedroom that was to a high standard. Was at the hotel on buisiness which i extended to include the weekend when my wife joined me. We found plenty to do in the area and was able to relax in the evenings in the hotel although there was plenty of activity in the town centre if we had wanted. The restaurant (Sophies) within the hotel served excellent quality food which was priced very reasonably. IF IN CREWE CANNOT RECOMMEND THIS HOTEL TOO... more
POOR (and that is being nice)
We had a group of twelve stayng there. The staff were uninterested in our welfare. The rooms were noisy. If you weren't next to the station announcer, you were above the disco (so loud that my coffee bounced in my room like the t-rex scene in jurassic park). The restaurant opened usually half hour after it said it would, and then would take about another hour to get your food. The food was laughable. We actually took photos of some of it to see if people could guess what it was!! At first we didn't complain, the second week we did. May as... more
A better bit of Crewe
One night in the Crewe Arms Hotel (away from the railway) gave me an excellent night's sleep in a spacious room. Dinner was very good value for money and the room was comfortable despite a view of the lightwell! Slept like a log and greeted the day with a fairly substantial breakfast. Definately a better bit of Crewe!
Good nights sleep, good breakfast, good location
My stay was quite unremarkable but to be honest I like business stays that way. Room was quiet even with the trains, it was clean, nicely furnished and the bed was comfy. Breakfast was hot and fresh and the service was all I needed. Don't expect to bebowled over by any surprises here but it a good clean hotel in a convenient location.
If you want to sleep, forget it!
This hotel hangs over Crewe station. If you're happy with train announcements, and earthquake-like room shaking whenever a goods-train goes through - give it a go! You might, however, want to take into account that you cannot turn off the giant radiators in your room, you may not be able to get out of your room (one of our group, once he locked the door, couldn't unlock it again), there is no hot water for the showers that run off the mains, the food is expensive and terrible (slice of unidentifiable meat under thick, brown gravy and... more
Pleasantly Surprised
We stayed one night in the Crewe Arms after a late arrival at Crewe Station. I had read the other Tripadvisor reviews and from them was unsure what to expect, however we were pleasantly surprised. The staff were friendly, the hotel very clean and our room had obviously recently been refurbished, with an immaculate shower room and deep carpets. The towels in the room were huge and a definite plus, and although we did hear train noise, what do you expect from a hotel opposite the Railway Station? The breakfast was good and overall we had a... more
Pleasant Stay
We stayed overnight on 11th June 2005 as we were attending a function in the town. The hotel is adjacent to the railway line and almost opposite the station. However our room overlooked an internal courtyard and we did not notice the trains going past. The hotel has been recently refurbished inside. Our room was a decent size with the usual hotel furnishings. There was an ensuite with bath. The room was clean and comfortable. The communal areas included a bar and restaurant. Staff were welcoming. We ate breakfast there which was self service... more
Was that a train
Stayed here to break our journey to and from Devon in June 2003. The first stay was terrible - it felt like being on a station platform all night as the room backed onto the station. The room desperately needed refurbished and the travel cot for our baby was disgusting. Room on return journey was better but cot as bad - luckily we had out own. Carvery food was rubbery and hotel needed a lot of TLC. Ok for money if you get a deal and are only staying one night.
Standards
Satyed at the hotel over August Bank Holiday (2003) and found that the following standards were low:Food: Too much carvery food, no other menu and the new Italian restaurant had closed down, even though the signs were still advertising it. Service: Some nights better than others as one night waiter tried to take away plate before meal had completed. Room: Most rooms much overdue refurbishing and smelt of damp. Change of rooms did not help. Most rooms overlook rear of kitchen and lots of noise from delivery drivers and hotel staff. Rooms... more
