This hotel has a lot of character, friendly and helpful staff The location is reasonable (I walked home most evenings)and taxis are fairly cheap. My room was a "small Double", but could have done with being a bit larger. For example, there was no room for a bedside table. I... more

We have just returned from a week at the Brookside. Our room was very dated, the wallpaper was a in a fake brick pattern. The only art were two pictures that were in fact pieces of the wallpaper that had been framed behind glass (very classy). The bath panel was coming... more

Ok, but not planning to visit again
I stayed here for one night whilst on a course at Chester Uni which is only a couple of minutes walk away. Room was clean but small and dated, although the bathroom must have been refurbished recently as it was very modern, clean and had a decent shower. There was a small TV and tea making facilities too. Unfortunately I didn't have a very good sleep at all, I think the soundproofing in the rooms is poor, (a friend checked in here the night before me and she could hear the person in the next room snoring all night), my room was on... more
Great little gem!
Expecting to find a standard B&B type hotel, I was pleasantly surprised by the Brookside hotel. The staff are what really make the place great; they are friendly and will go above and beyond to offer you assistance. With such a warm welcome, it was hard to see fault with our stay. The hotel itself could do with a little bit of updating, but its charm far outweighs its faults. The food offered in the hotels restaurant is superb. The complimentary breakfast was exquisite. The hotel is a short walk from Chester city centre, but... more
A Great Break
We were a Group of 8 on a golfing holiday based in Chester. We had a very pleasant stay in a reasonably priced Hotel with excellent facilities, not too far from the city centre. Taxi £3- to £3.50 if required (booked by Hotel staff). Food choice and quality first class. The staff made us very welcome and were extremely helpful. We highly recommend the Hotel and will certainly re-visit.
Disappointing
We have just returned from a weekend at the Brookside. Our twin room was very dated. The bath panel was coming away from the bath, the beds were extremely uncomfortable and the wardrobe was not deep enough to accommodate a coat hanger,. The door to the so called wardrobe, was a plastic concertina door. The Hotel was short staffed, in fact one young lady single handedly opened the door of the hotel when the bell was rung, answered the telephone, manned the Reception, manned the bar, took orders for the food in the dining room and served on... more
Really nice modest hotel
Were welcomed by friendly receptionist, who took our luggage up to our room (a rare gesture these days. . .). Room was fine, clean and pleasant - and reasonably priced. Bed was OK though could have been bigger and more comfy. Traffic noise in the morning noticeable (might be a good idea to ask for a room away from Brook Lane). Good breakfast.
nice place
i have visited the brookside hotel on many occasions and always found most of the staff very helpful and friendly. the rooms have always been very clean and tidy. although i have only been alone i will definately be taking my family for a summer break its in the perfect location for all attractions. being disabled i find it quite limiting as to where i can find suitable accomadation.this place is just perfect!
Nice But!!!!!
I read a number of reviews prior to booking one night at the Brookside. On arrival I rang the bell a number of occasions and was greeted by a male receptionist waving that he was on the phone. Not really a problem unless you are holding a year old baby in a cold wind. The above person was rather quiet and although not his fault did not apolgise for the wait. The hotel is clean and tidy although "tired" and needs to be brought up to date with the decor and bedding. It is like stopping at an elderly relative if you know what I mean, nothing... more
Perfect Break
We have just returned from a lovely stay at this hotel. Our party consisted of our 2 daughter and my husband and myself. The rooms were perfect and the staff were so friendly and helpful.Breakfast was superb. We will certainly return.
Great Short Break
I recently stayed in the Brookside Hotel along with my husband and 1 year old baby. The Hotel was lovely, clean, warm and the staff were always friendly. Heating baby food, highchairs etc were not a problem. We truely enjoyed our stay and did not want to come home. It was the first holiday together as a family that I have been able to say this about! Breakfast was very yummy too :-) Hotel is very near the zoo and aquarium and is only a 10 min walk from the centre.
not quite right
When we checked in at Brookside we were taken by the the very quiet receptionist to the top of the basement staircase where he pointed to room 29. and left us with the keys. In fact 29 was two rooms - a suite for 4. The first impact on the senses was air freshener followed by the feeling of damp - the sheets were damp and the bed drapes were stained with mildew where they touched the damp carpet. I protested politely and reluctantly we were offered 16. Quite a nice room with no damp! It is the only room i've had ( many years of traveling)... more
