Victoria Square

We were desparate for a hotel in Bristol and there was not much available (due I believe to the Harbour festival). We know Bristol well having lived here for many years in the past so knew the areas. However having lived here we didnt know the Hotels that well We looked at last minute availability - Best Western was available - and it was ninth on the list of 115 hotels - we did think this was odd that it was available - and at an on-line rate of £79 instead of the usual £120 for a Saturday night I checked out the site, free... more

The BW Victoria Square Hotel is by far the best 2* Hotel in Bristol. The bathrooms have been refurbished recently, the hotel is very clean, the breakfast is great, and the staff are very friendly and helpful. As a regular I have stayed in many of the rooms in the hotel- all are very different but equally nice. As a regular visitor to Bristol; in response to the review comparing the hotel to the Rodney and Hotel du Vin, the Rodney is very run down in comparison and many of the staff are foreign. The location of this hotel is perfect within the village - close to all the bars and restaurants and the fact it has parking makes it great. The cost of the room was also very reasonable for Clifton. Our room was large and clean with a great shower. The staff were very friendly. The breakfast was served until 10am on the Sunday which is good. The only potential downfall could be that it has no lift, although it was not an issue for us.

I stayed at Victoria Square Hotel on February 2006 with my family. They have great family rooms! Room was very spacious although we were 4 people tucked in. The room was decorated with a good taste, and the bathroom was brand new too. Breakfast was lovely and well cooked. The staff were nice and helpful. I recommend!!!

The Victoria Square Hotel was just perfect; great location in Clifton village with all its shops just a few minutes walk, the staff were friendly and polite, the beakfast was fantastic (especially the coffee and the cooked breakfast) and the rooms were clean and spacious. There was a lovely welcoming atmosphere there too, especially in the bar and restaurant. In addition, i would say the experience was excellent value for money. I would most definitely recommend this hotel to anyone, whether for business or pleasure.

I have made many reservations for overseas business visitors at this hotel, including the last in October. All have complained that the hotel is terrible and all have asked never to be booked there again. The rooms, which I have seen, are very small and often without any hot water. The staff (and I have experienced this myself) are unhelpful and rude but apparently the breakfasts are good although very expensive! I would never stay here and I have been asked never to book the hotel for people again.

July 26th was my 3rd time staying at the Victoria Square hotel. At 2.00 am, I was woken by the sound of a loud dripping water. I discovered that the gutter outside was broken and water was dripping onto the ledge outside my room. I asked the porter to change my room. He could not because of they were full. At 4.00 am water started coming through the ceiling of my room onto the floor. Was pleasantly surprised by the spaciousness of the bedroom and the good breakfast (coffee much better than in many hotels). The en-suite bathroom provided a large bathroom cabinet to put your toiletries in instead of the usual small shelf - I thought this was an unusually helpful touch. Staff in restaurant and bar were very efficient and receptionists were helpful. They seemed better trained than in many places.
