Good base hotel
Having just spent the weekend at the Avon Gorge we were pleased with our stay. On arrival a free parking space was allocated and we booked in very quickly. The rooms are clean and tidy and whilst a little dated they offer a great base for the Bars, Restuarants and Shops. We stayed on a B&B basis and feel this is better value than some of the larger chains closer to the town centre. Over all a good stay and we will return. It is well worth negotiating the room rate.
Expensive & Shabby
Have stayed here before but not for some time Had to book late and got charged top rate for an expensive room. Expecting a plush room I was disappointed at the distressed furniture, cracked floor tiles in bathroom and ancient TV The good point was the view over the Gorge and bridge and of course the excellent resteraunts in Clifton. As always, parking was on the road. Beer £3.20 Breakfast .. mingey
Nice Hotel
I stayed here for one night on the 11th May 2007. Just stopping over on our way to Cornwall. I arrived late and was lucky enough to get the last parking space at the back of the hotel, goodness knows where I would have parked had I not got that one. There are only a handful of spaces. The rest of the parking is on the road and streets outside and around the hotel. The reception was very welcoming, and the staff very helpful. The corridors to the bedrooms were long and winding, and in places very narrow... I had... more
OK if you can get a cheap rate
I've stayed at this hotel 3 times now on business over two years (twice in summer, once in winter). I have to say, I've never been very impressed. Having said that, if you're visiting Bristol as a tourist, the location is great for Clifton village, the downs and the zoo, and there is a beautiful terrace and view over the Clifton suspension bridge. Every time I have stayed there I have been in a room which requires carrying cases up and down flights of stairs and walking down long narrow corridors to find. Although there is a lift, you... more
Great Weekend
Fantastic view, helpfull staff, clean room and excellent dinner in the Bridge restaurant made for a great weekend break.Only drawback parking was ok on Friday but horrendous on Saturday.
no gym, parking can be a prob but otherwise ok for a 3 star hotel
not a bad hotel, stayed for one night only. At the time the hotel rate was £90 a night. The hotel staff were ok, breakfast was very good with fruit and cereal, hot stuff as well. parking was a nightmare and ofcourse having no gym was a downer for me. but apart from that not bad at all. The restaurant seemed pricey so I ate out. The room they gave me did not have a view of the bridge but it was clean..but not what I would call a first class room. for a 3-star hotel this was a very good hotel.
A lovely hotel with great views.
What wonderful views from a good hotel. Accomadation was excellent. We had wonderful service throught our stay, staff were very friendly and helpful. Highly reccomended.
A great hotel?
The Avon Gorge Hotel is in a great location, next to Isambard Kingdom Brunel's Clifton Suspension Bridge. It may be a great hotel but sadly we never got to find out. The hotel had given our rooms away despite having confirmed the reservation the day before arrival. They didn't seem too bothered about it either and just seemed to want us to go away.... Not my idea of good customer service.
Not bad, great views!
Fairly brainless staff, some rooms have fab views over the gorge. Food in the bar is por and overpriced but there are some lovely resturants near by so that does not matter. Rooms clean, quite big but need an overhaul.
Lovely bargain
I've been staying here for 10 years when visting friends in Bristol. It has a low profile because it is not now part of one of the bigger chains, but was well invested when Thistle ran it. Rooms are generally spacious, smart and well furnished, with superb views from those on the gorge side. You're in up-market Clifton, a 30-40 min walk or five min cab ride from the centre, but very close to Clifton's fantastic bars and restaurants. Bargain rates can be usually be found on the web site laterooms, often as low as £49 - far cheaper and far... more
