Nanu Beach Resort

Yes Don & Di are going back to Nanu again ! We love this place so much the staff are fantastic they look after your every need with there big smiley faces .This is our fourth visit and its like going to meet old friends . This is a total chill holiday for us and would advise that the nanu is ideal for that reason its not for clubbers 18-30s.The rooms are basic but only used to collaspe in to before another hard day on the beach ! The shacks are fantastic for food and Kingfishers Joels shack is our choice for day time and then down to sebs Sea princess for the evening as with all of the local people these guys will reward you with imprompt fire works and beech fires just because the sun had been shining that day ! going into town take a taxi then come back in a tuk tuk fantastic fun . Things here are so cheap so money goes a long way which makes it even more enjoyable so you don't have to watch the purse strings.I would recomend this place to anyone who just wants relax and chill.Well thats it see everyone Dec 7th 2007 joels shack first ps watch out for new years fireworks on the beech best in the village including all the hotels !!!!!!!!!!!

In common with the majority of previous reviews we found the Nanu to be an excellent hotel I felt our room was big enough and although the king size bed was firm I slept well on it. The room was cleaned to a high standard, the televsion had a huge variety of channels and the balcony was big enough for both of us to sit outside in comfort. Breakfasts were excellent in my view with a good variety of choices including curry (love having curry for breakfst - I'm a true Welshman) The evening meals were OK, a bit bland for my taste but the choice was pretty good and there was "entertainment" of the usual middle of the road singing variety most nights. The only disappointment for us was that the beach shacks near the nanu were still being built during our stay due to the late issue of licences but by now there should be4 or 5 close to the hotel with even more on the beach south towards Colva. Eating out - we strongly recommend Martin's Corner, a short taxi ride away. Its full most nights and booking is essential on Friday and Saturday unless you get there very early. Lovely for lunch too if you fancy an hour's stroll along the beach then a short walk on the road. We also ate at the 'Pentagon' at Majorda. the food was good but the service appalling, very slow and difficult to get the waiters' attention. It was noticeable that the night we were there there were no Indian families dining there unlike at Martin's Corner. The beach from the Nanu to Colva and even further south is wonderful and the sea warm with not much current. I didn't like the number of dogs that roam the beach near Colva but were told that there are now fewer than before due a German charity neutering the dogs. Also we found Colva to be very untidy with so much litter on the streets. A word of warning - although Visa/Mastercard is OK we were unable to use our Maestro card to pay for trips etc. but it was OK at a cash point.

Just returned from the Nanu resort in Betalbatim South Goa. We enjoyed our first trip to Goa but we would not recommend the Nanu resort for the following reasons: -The nanu is very isolated not even a shop in walking distance, so taxis are required for all trips out some people got motorbikes. - We had problems with the airconditioning failing and being very noisy they did replace it eventually but even the replacement unit was so old it didnt work. - the rooms are very basic with hard beds, cigarette burns in the bed clothes, and a mouldy shower curtain dont expect anything like 3 star I doubt the rooms would even be 1 star in Europe. - The bar and room service shuts at 10.30pm we were refused any service at 10.30 when we returned from a meal out even though there were staff clearing up and of course there is no where else to go near by. - the resturant evening buffet was poor we ate out most nights. - Not enough sun loungers so people were paying the staff to put their towels out early morning for them. - no internet access for guests. - there were some strange incidents with bills where not everything appeared on the printed bill but we were given a seperated handwritten bill that included all the items....we suspected some kind of creaming off of money by the waiting staff. -Lots of rude Russia guests. The good points for the Nanu were that it is close to the nice part of the beach although you have to climb over bags of gravel and walk either over swamp using stepping stones or along a very rocky path to get there. The beach shacks outside the Nanu were just going up when we left so November is maybe a little early but we enjoyed the Mish Mar shack at Majorda beach everyone was really friendly and the prawn noodles were yummie! Being early meant the beach was clean and quiet which was a positive. We enjoyed Bettys boat trip seeing dolphins and taking a ride up the river Sal and a trip to stay in posh tents on a lovely beach (the best night of the holiday away from the nanu!!)

I guess we where badly adviced from Norway - as we arrived 2 weeks before the season started. After doing the "Golden Triangel" with great standard in accomodation i Agra, Delhi. Jaipur etc we where looking forward to an relaxing week on this beatyful beach.. But No! The beach-life had not started up yet: No shacks, no life, no people - nothing at all. And since the monsoon had not ended it was not possible to even go for a swim because of the enormous waves.. A big dissapointmnet to our two children. Well, under those circumstanses it's even more necessary to have a nice hotel with good facilities. The Nanu was a big dissapointment: We were the only (4) guests eksept an yoga-seminar. The bar by the pool was not open, no sunbeds, no entertainment and a very simple restaurant. Breakfast and (á la carte) lunch were fine. Pool small but clean. The rooms almost made me cry! Firs we were placed in the back-line near to the reception (even though we were the only gusts!). The rooms came with aircon, a fan, tv and a very firm bed- a real back-pain.. But worst of all it's lack of cleaniness! The room smelled badly, were dirty and full of fungus!! After complaining we got an superior-room with a beach-view, This was clean and otherwise ok. But since the hotel had no facilities and we could not use the beach we had to go to the nearest village (Colva) and Margau almost daily. Definitely do NOT go there outside the season - I don't think I would go back to Nanu -at any time... Ambient

This was our first time in Goa and we loved it. The hotel was good, we liked the layout of small apartment rooms. I agree beds a bit hard but rooms are pleasant and very clean. Service is excellent, the staff are very helpful and friendly. We went bed and breakfast and were glad we had as the only thing that let the hotel down was the food which we thought was very indifferent. This did'nt matter as we fell in love with the whole beach shack experience and spent a week of very happy days on the beach. Our favourite shack was Joels where Jancinta and her son Joel made us very welcome and the food was excellent and very cheap (also great indian wine!) Very definately made our stay. It was the end of the season so very quiet; be warned that the shacks all break down for the Monsoon around 20 April, so after that time you are dependent on the hotel cuisine! We will definately go back!

Not sure how many times I've stayed here (8? 9?) but this was the first time on my own as I left the other half at home. Staff are great here - some of them have been here since the hotel opened about 14 years ago. You have to have half board, but after one dinner there several years ago, I've never bothered. I can't therefore comment on the food or the entertainment. It's only a couple of minutes walk to the beach and half a dozen good beach shacks (Sea Princess, run by Seby is my choice - his was the first shack on that part of the beach all those years ago...). Most hawkers on the beach have been banned, so there are only a few selling drums and necklaces, and Aloha the fruit seller. Beds at the Nanu are a bit hard, but the rooms are comfortable and clean. Some of them have been refurbished in the last couple of years and are a great improvement. A/C works well, and the hotel has a back-up generator to cope with the frequent power cuts. The pool is lovely - quite large for a smallish hotel - clean and well looked after. There is also a small ayurvedic centre offering massages. Money changing at reception is only a rupee or so off the Bank of India rate (nearest ATM is in Colva). Laundry service is great - quick and cheap - which means you don't have to take bulging suitcases with you. Room service is also pretty efficient and the menu's fairly eclectic. There are around 30 taxi drivers who serve the Nanu, the Alagoa and Coconut Grove and there's usually at least one outside the hotel if you want to go anywhere. There's a list of charges in the foyer. You can book them for trips later in your stay, which is much cheaper than using the trips organised by holiday companies. All the drivers know where they're going and what's going on. It is a bit out on a limb, so you'll probably need a taxi from time to time in the evenings if you want to eat out (good restaurants in Colva or Majorda), but that's fine if you want peace and quiet.

This was my fifth time in goa and its like home from home the Nanu is excellent and in a fantastic location with colva a short walk up the beach away, Joels shack provides the best beach sevice and the sunsets are to die for. The buffet in the Nanu isnt the best but with so many other great [places to eat including the kentucky in colva you qre spoilt for choice. I hope to be back again next year i wouldnt miss it for anything

We booked Nanu Resort thru a Canadian travel agent for an Indian travel agency based in Delhi. We stayed at Nanu for 2 days and 2 nights. We didn't know quite what to expect from a 3 star but we were very pleasantly surprised by the modern and cleanly facilities! Our room was quite basic but neat and clean and everything worked (A/C, fan, lights, etc.). The bathroom was fairly large and we loved the water pressure from the shower. There was also a cute private patio with 2 lawn chairs that over looked the lovely pool. The mattresses were firm but reasonably comfortable. The TV had a variety of channels which my traveling partner was happy about. The beach was a 2 min walk from the hotel and the resort felt quite safe as they had a security guard posted at the door leading to the beach at all times. The beach itself was clean and had soft white sand. There were plenty of shacks to choose from and their prices were pretty much the same. We were a bit disappointed at how hard it was to find jumbo prawns and when we did find them at how expensive they were. The food tasted delicious and fresh on the beach and neither of us got sick. Generally you eat from the shack in front of which you are using a lounger. At Belbatim there was no charge for use of the lounger, but at more populated beaches there was a charge, regardless of whether you were buying food or not. I agree with a previous review that there was not much to do in terms of night life at Nanu Resort and we were also in bed by 10pm for this reason. We didn't feel safe on the beach after 10pm as all the restaurant shacks turn off their lights and the beach is then pitch black with a few stray dogs. And we weren't motivated enough to go into town for the night clubs there as it would be a Rs550 (one-way) to get there. (In our case we didn't realise how large Goa was and how much time it would take to travel 20-30km) Breakfast and dinner were included and we found the buffet style food to be excellent with lots of variety but that may be in part to the fact that we were only there for 2 days/night. The dinner entertainment/singing was good and provided enough ambience to make the meal more enjoyable. The serving staff were pleasant and the service was excellent. In addition, the staff at the front desk were very friendly and helpful. We rented a scooter one day with the intent of going into Paniji. However, traveling 20km on winding roads when it is only your 2nd time riding a scooter was going to take us too long so we went and explored other beaches that were closer by, such as Urtuda which was quiet and not much different than Belbatim beach. We enjoyed the scooter ride and recommend it if you want to travel short distances, unfortunately, a helmet is only provided and required for the driver of the scooter. Our last day, we rented a car and driver for 5 hours to take us into Old Goa to see churches, to Fort Aguada as well as to the closest Beach to Fort Aguada (the beach close to the 5 star resort The Taj). We were surprised at how costly it was (Rs. 1500). Perhaps we should have bargained more but we were given the impression it was a fixed price. Our driver was very kind but he did not volunteer any information on the sights we could see thru the car window. However, he was happy to answer questions re: name of a bridge, etc. He seemed more comfortable speaking in Hindi than English but understood us perfectly fine. Overall, our stay was very pleasant and relaxing and we would definitely go back to Goa as well as Nanu resort if all we wanted to do was to relax. If we want to experience the excitement of nightlife and beach parties we would definitely stay in North Goa! It all depends on what type of holiday you are looking for. We felt we got good value for our money staying at the Nanu Resort.

I think it says it all that we are about to return to South Goa and the Nanu Resort for the 7th (or is it 8th) time!! The hotel is full of lovely, friendly & respectful staff who are always willing to help in any way. The hotel isn't luxury but it's clean, well kept and does a great omlette for breakfast. The bar & food prices are good, especially compared with other higher star hotels! Most packages, which are also well-priced (especially Portland) are half board but we tend to eat out most nights, prefering the beach shacks and local restaurants. However, I'm often tempted by the yummy salads so we sneak in to have them as a starter then go out!! The pool / grass sunbathing area are never crowded as many guests are Indians who prefer to go out for the day rather than laze around! The 20 mile long beach with lovely beach shacks, The Sea Princess is our favourite; is just outside the gate, over a small bridged stream. The village of Betalbatim is a lovely 10-15min walk in land, past paddy fields & lots of smiley, local children; here you'll find a small shop, laundry, chemist & a few small restaurants.

We picked Goa and the Nanu resort because we wanted a relaxing beach holiday. Firstly the hotel room. We asked for and got a double bedded room with a sea view. We could just about see the sea but you don't spend too much time in the room so we weren't too bothered. The room comes with aircon, a fan, a double wardrobe, cable tv, balcony and a separate shower/toilet. TV is mainly american/indian channels. Bed was very firm but comfortable. If like me you like a nice powerful shower then you'll be pleased, plenty of pressure. To sum up the room, it's clean and basic. Hotel facilites. Good room service, quick with a full menu of choice upto 22.30. They offer a laundry service, we never used it so we can't comment. Safe deposit box in reception, wasn't expensive even for two weeks use. Reception can change money 24hours. Small shop (not 24h) in reception selling books, suncream, sweets and gifts, etc. Pool. Beds, towels and umbrellas are available. Poolside bar but unmanned and unstocked for most of the day and night. All unremarkable but useful for cooling off! We did find the bed's a little uncomfortable after a day on them as they don't have any padding, minor niggle. Grounds. Well looked after grassy areas and palm trees. Restaurant. There is only one restaurant in the hotel. Breakfast is buffet style with a fairly good selection of cuisines catered for. We tended to have tea, toast and a freshly made omelette each day. Dinner is also buffet style. Be warned nearly every meal is some sort of curry based meal which to us got a bit much after two weeks. There is some a la carte selections but all fairly spicy as well. Entertainment. Throughout dinner the hotel provide singers and/or dancers for your entertainment. Other than that nothing else. Nightlife. Nothing organised. We were in bed most nights by 10pm. Not really through choice, just not a lot else to do! Outside the Hotel. There's a gate near the pool that leads to the beach. There are a few shops on the way to the beach that try and entice you in. They usually get the 'no' message after a couple of days, although they are never too pushy. Bike hire is available just by the gate, didn't try them so we can't comment. There are plenty of available and friendly taxi's available at the front of the hotel and will often wait for you at your destination until you are ready to return. Beach. Lovely. Clean sand. Great sea with some waves but not too rough for swimming. There are some shacks on the beach which are built and dismantled every year. They sell all sorts of food and drink. We pretty much spent our holiday on their free and comfortable sunbeds. We really must recommend Joel's shack. The owner Deepak was always friendly and could never do enough for you. If nothing else just go and have a chat with him, he's a mine of local information. There are a few beach sellers and if you are not interested then they don't get too pushy. The goods they have are worth looking at though. Please look out for Hamish(a beach seller) and say we said hello (Claire and Jason). Value for money. Unbelieveable, everything is so cheap. Trips. We found out the day before we left that Claire was pregnant so we decided to cut right back on the trips we did. The two we did were an overnight stay at Paralim beach and a trip to Old Goa and Panjim. We thoroughly recommend the overnight trip, although I won't spoil it by telling you any details. Old Goa was okay, seemed to be an organised shopping trip with a very rushed feel. We even lost two people and left without them! Others. We went for dinner at the Park Hyatt. It's a 5* hotel and the meal/drinks cost us three times the amount of money but the food and location was lovely. Sunsets are gorgeous on any beach. Summary. Definitely go.
