Comments:  Overall the accommodation was satisfactory, the bungalows were clean and tidy and the staff were pleasant and helpful. The bungalows were very small and compact, ours was shared by 3 which was struggle, the kitchen area is very small and basic however we never used it. Our kitchen came with a toasty maker and kettle however toasty maker was broken. Bungalow was very tidy when we arrived however one of our windows was slightly broken.

. But defiantly wouldn’t recommend the bungalows to people probably under the age of 30. When we first arrived the place seemed dead apart from a lot of old people. However to the end of the week it did become more lively but all the visitors were mainly Spanish. The night entertainment seemed non existent and what entertainment there was, was in Spanish. However there was a guy who organised the entertainment in the day such as water volley ball, pool, tennis and football, but not many people seemed to join in these events.
The rooms were cleaned well and the pool and outside areas were also kept very clean. Glad that we went self catering because although the food was reasonably cheap there wasn’t much too choose from and basically you got what you paid for so wouldn’t recommend going for all inclusive or even half board. We tended to go out for the nights, would definitely recommend the promenade playa de ingles, cheap good food and lots of bars (especially the dragon music pub where all the staff were really friendly and had great music). There was also a good restaurant nearby, along the side of the empty river bank towards the lighthouse direction. It was reasonably priced and the staff and food was lovely (chicken lickin).
The little pool bar didn’t stay open for long but when it was open, had a happy hour form 4 till 5 wish is a must to take advantage of. The club did have a mini 24/7 shop which was handy and there is also access to the internet which you have to pay for.

The bungalows did seem to be in the middle of no where, apart from the faro 2 shopping centre which did have restaurants and shops, we went there one evening but that was enough for us, there is also the nearby holiday world which we decided to stay away from due to how tacky it looked. However the beach was about a 20-30 minute walk, but its best to ask at the reception how to get there because we ended up going the long way around first time which took us forever. Taxis to most of the places are quite cheap, for example it cost us around 4-5 euros for most of the taxi trips.

wouldn’t go back to the bungalows however would recommend them to people who don’t mind not having all the amenities right next to them and don’t mind having to get get taxi rides and for anyone wanting a quite relaxing place to stay.

However wouldnt reccomend going with Thomas Cook we had a problem with our flight being delayed and having to fly back, then our flight was changed to the next day although they did put us up in a hotel, they had several problems which the check in the next day which took forever and with the flight on the way back.

Comments:  I stayed here with 3 people sharing and was abit cramped but the bingalow offerd everything we could posable need including a toast maker with a melted handel. i wouldent recomend staying her unless you have children and are having a quiet family holiday, if you just on your own with friends and are 18 - 30 ide stay somewhere that is abit more lively because this place is practalcy dead and have to get a taxi everywhere its that out of the way to the clubs and bars. the entertainment there is never on and the bar is never open nether but the food is cheep but not at its best. the staff are friendly and loverly here tho and they do there best to healp you with anything you need. The only bad thing is location and we were the only english people here it does feel like an old Peoples retirment home to be honest with not alot goin on i woudlent stay here again but taxi's are cheep say 3-4 euros max to where ever but the hotel (Club Retirment) 2 buses a day to the beach and if you wanna walk and site see its about 30 mins but there is nowt rearly to see goin the short away apart from a dried up river bed. there is a mini market at the hotel which is very basic but you could just go Faro 2 shopping centre which is cheeper and better. the stay here wasent overall bad and is good for sting by the pool and getting tan and thats it if ide come to that part again ide stay closer to playas del ingles where the excitment is at, when we told pople we were staying here they laft in our faces and felt sorry for us, so ill leave you with this if you are young and want a life stay somewhere else but if you are old and frale stay here.

Comments:  the accommodation was very clean and the pools and outdoor areas were kept well tended and clean. No cockroaches, ants or mosquitos, plenty to do for families on site as well as a kids club. food and restaurant was available at a cost Breakfast at E4.95 and dinner at E9.50 I thought both were expensive and I was told the food wasnt the best they have had on the island, fair dues though we never ate there. Happy hours were daily, only certain drinks were included. the reception desk was 24/7 as was their little shop. Entertainment was weak, though allowances for the out of season we went. Every act suppliments their income and some rely on it as their income are photographs. They ask you to have photos with all the acts from snakes to eagles to dancers. Activities are held daily and inclusive, ie pistol shooting, volleyball, snooker, etc. Maid service and basic house cleaning is done daily, towels changed twice a week and sheets once every 8 days. Safes are in the rooms but beware the keys are expensive at E3.00 per day, but warnings say the site holds no responsibility over stolen items that were not in the safe. All were very friendly on site.

Outside the accommodation, nearest shops, supermarket and restaurants and bars are at Faro 2, a 5/10 minute walk, Amusements and entertainment rides 10/15 minutes away. The dunes are 30 minutes walk as is the beach and the exclusive Faro 1 shops and restaurants, the light house and promanade are really enjoyable. walk the beach past the families and holiday makers to the nudist beach, then on to the gay nude area and back past this to families again, no one looks twice and the walk along the beach waters edge to plya de inglis is an hours stroll and really enjoyable. The dunes are something else to see, a must for budding photographers, but be warned walking over them is quite a feat. WARNING.. the dunes are frequented by lovers and gay men crusing although they never bother anyone and it is safe.

Every second shop sells perfume, do your research before you go, it is not cheap out there and you must barter, an example of the perfume is: Joop, 125ml E58.00 bartered to E46.00 left and bought back in the UK at the airport once we landed at £26 about E34 so £10+ cheaper here in UK... Cider is E5.00 a pint, Lager E4.00, food and restaurants are not as cheap as you may think and then to have a coke at your table expect anouther E3.50

Visit the Yumo centre in P d I free entertainment and a must to visit was Ricky's Cabaret Bar, say hi to Glory(ia) for me a fun gal...ish. lol again a round of drinks was E20 for 4 of us.

Generally a great week holiday watch the sun its hot! expect to spend a lot of money, visit Mogan market and port on a Friday, really great. Taxis are the cheapest thing on the island, staying at Maspalomas and going in to Play de Iglis was just E3.50 hiring a car is simple use Avis in P de I about E40 all in for a 5 seater with air con, they dont deliver but pay your taxi fare one way, get a receipt from the taxi driver to get your refund.

Go with your eyes open and be prepared to spend your hard earned cash, Aqua Park is E24.00 plus sunbeds at E6.00 eating there was expensive.

Hope this is helpful, have a good stay, I recommend the bungalows and Thomas Cook were great to holiday with, great rep on site.

Comments:  EXCELLENT ACCOMODATION . ALL AREAS VERY PRETTY, CLEAN AND WELL MAINTAINED. POOLS BOTH BEAUTIFUL PLENTY OF SUN LOUNGERS ALTHOUGH A BIT CLOSE TOGETHER - COULD BE COSY IF VERY CROWDED AND NOT ENOUGH UMBRELLAS IF BUSY. WOULD HAVE LIKED TO SEE SOME DISABLED ACCESS OR WIDESTEPS INTO AT LEAST ONE POOL AS THE POOL STEPS THERE WERE VERY STEEP
AND DIFFICULT FOR ANYONE WITH ANY PROBLEMS.
IT IS A QUIET ACCOMODATION AND NOT SUITABLE FOR THOSE WHO WANT A BUSY LIVELY HOLIDAY ON THE SITE BUT IDEAL FOR THOSE WHO WANT A PEACEFUL HOLIDAY WITH ENTERTAINMENT ETC EITHER A SHORT WALK OR CHEAP TAXI RIDE AWAY. BOTH FARO 2 SHOPPING CENTRE ,PLAYA DES INGLES AND THE BEACH AREA ARE GREAT FOR BARS AND RESTAURANTS AND SHOPPING ETC.
THE FOOD AT THE BEACH BAR WAS EXCELLENT AND ALL THE STAFF VERY PLEASANT AND HELPFUL. I WENT WITH MY DAUGHTER FOR A CHILL OUT WEEK AND WE HAD SUPER WEATHER AND A GREAT TIME AND WOULD GO THERE AGAIN!!!

Comments:  Have just returned from Club Maspalomas on a self catering basis, thank goodness. If we had booked either half or full board we would have been very disappointed. We went for breakfast and dinner a couple of times, only because the weather was so bad that it was too wet to walk to Farro 2. The food was cold and sometimes indescribable. The restaurant seemed to cater only for the majority of German and Spanish holidaymakers. The entertainment was almost non existant, as this was the sole responsibility of the one so called 'Entertainment Officer'. The quiz and bingo prizes were also provided by this one gentleman, not the resort, which seemed also quite a responsibility for this young man. The bungalows are very basic, with just a two electric ring hob and a fridge and very small freezer. The on site shop was very expensive and small with little choice. Thankfully the nearby shopping centre Faro 2 had a good selection of shops, restaurants and bars.

Comments:  I agree with most of the previous comments. Maspalomas is quiet; the Rio Club Maspalomas Club complex is pleasant, and generally well kept. We booked a late deal as half board and were not expecting self catering accommodation, so the limited cooking facilities were a bonus, to be able to make a drink, have a fridge etc. But if we had booked self catering, I would have been disappointed in the space available. Cramped, to say the least.

We found the staff helpful, but have a couple of issues.

The shop was very poorly stocked and very expensive. Worth shopping at one of the bigger supermarkets and getting a taxi back.

I said we were half board. This was a pity. The food itself was not too bad, but cold most of the time. And I mean COLD. One night the soup was warm-ish. Potatoes usually quite warm, but veg and pasta was cold, and main courses usually cool. Some strange main courses, like cooked meat in gravy and cooked meat was warmed up for breakfast too. Good food wasted. But if you like salads, they were generally good. If I was paying for the catering facility there, I would think it was not value for money, at 4.90 for breakfast and 9.20 for dinner. Down on Maspalomas front you could get HOT food for about 5 Euros.

Then the cats! I like cats, and did not find them as much of a nuisance as on other Canary Islands. But...if you left your food to go back to the buffet for something, they would jump on the table and help themselves to your plate. If you drew the waitress’s attention, they would shoo them away, but they did not strip the table or even wipe the plastic cloth. Other guests could have then used the table later, and children could put their bread rolls directly where the cats had been.

But the weather was great, flights great, and a very good value for money break just before Christmas.

Comments:  Our honeymoon was booked by our friends as a present earlier this month, so we didn’t know quite what to expect as we had only viewed a couple of pictures of the complex prior to going on holiday, and might I say our friends knocked it right on the head!

We found the staff at Club Maspalomas more than helpful with everything, and extremely friendly. Especially with our young daughter Brooke, which I think helped her to settle in a lot quicker seeing as it was her first holiday abroad in such a hot climate.

The bungalows themselves we found were extremely clean, with ample facilities for a self catering holiday such as this. I read in previous reviews that people found the apartments rather small, this is true but what I would say is that although this was the case, it was a perfect size for me, my wife and our daughter. People should take this into consideration before trying to book a larger party into one apartment.

The only thing lacking is the entertainment, which we found fairly weak, maybe because of the time of year! The nearby Faro shopping complex had everything we needed and kept ourselves and the little one entertained non stop. With Playa des Ingles and the beach close by, we were in our element! Most enjoyable holiday had by all!

Comments:  Ok let’s start with accommodation, basic but all what it said on the tin. If you have more than one child throw one overboard cause it was a tight squeeze with 3 of us, but it was clean and the maids come regular, even whilst your having a lie in. No 'do not disturb signs' round Club Maspalomas.

If you are not going in Spanish summer holidays then you probably have a good time, but if you go in august you won’t meet anyone English at all about 95% Spanish 4% German and 2% English! Don’t bother going to Faro Shopping Centre if you want to eat well and have some atmosphere, catch a taxi to Playa (2 Euros) and go to the beach front restaurants.

All in all ok place, rubbish resort. Last piece of advice go to Amdeours beach, 15 mins from Puerto Rico, the most beautiful beach you will ever see. Catch bus to Puerto then 15 mins walk along the sea front. You have to see to believe!!!!

Comments:  We have just returned from an excellent week of heat and sunshine. This is our second visit to Gran Canaria and would come back again.

We had a bungalow round from the pool which was excellent for our 2 girls, they were able to come and go as they pleased with us still able to keep them in view.

Maid service was good, only wished they could have mopped through the bungalow at least once in the week. The bungalow itself was basic and small, very cramped for 4 of us.

We had only 10 minutes walk to shopping centre and fairground and taxis were cheap enough to take us to nearby Playa del Ingles.

All in all we had a great time and had plenty of places to visit.

Next time though we will choose different apartments.

Comments:  Just returned from a fantastic week at Club Maspalomas - a perfect relaxing week at a great price! We requested a quiet bungalow and were rewarded with the one furthest from the pool, so no noise problems whatsoever.

Bungalow was very comfortable with enough facilities to cook at the basic level needed. Maid service was incredible - nothing was too much trouble.

Only downsides were the mini market - very expensive (No problem though - fantastic facilities in Faro 2, three minutes walk away) and the cost of safe rental - thought 21 euros for seven nights a bit steep.

The area around caters for all tastes, the young and energetic would probably prefer traveling into Playa del Ingles - cheap taxi fare of 2.40 euro! We preferred to walk alongside the Barranca de Maspalomas to Meloneras - about 25-30 minutes. Bars here were quiet and reserved with fabulous ocean views. A taxi home was again about 2.40 euros.

Absolute highlight of the holiday was the Zig Zag Jeep safari - stunning day out with amazing scenery and food. If you choose this trip just hope you drive with Jose Luis, an absolute nutcase, but what a showman! A brilliant driver, basket case and an absolute encyclopedia of information on the island. We felt we got 110% from this trip!

Top tip - avoid sliced bread in Gran Canaria - tastes like sweet cake and is extortionately expensive - shop in local markets and supermarkets and buy fresh rolls etc - incredibly tasty!! Top tip 2 - use the buses instead of driving - Las Palmas return (the other end of the island) was only ten euros and very smooth - has to be one of the best bus services around!

Comments:  Club Maspalomas are set in the grounds of 2 different bungalows, they are rather small and basic with little amenities for a self catering holiday. We had a 2 hob electric cooker with no oven and cutlery, plates and glasses. The bungalows have a fridge and a tiny freezer space but on a self catering holiday you expect to be able to cook a meal in your bungalow.

The maid service was very prompt and they were clean and tidy, however, I traveled with my wife and child who is nearly 2 years old. We had a nest of cockroaches in the cot provided and had to leave it outside the bungalow, therefore the baby had to sleep in the single bed for a fortnight as the cot was not replaced. Work was going on at the bungalows with a lot of noise but were notified 2 days prior to flying.

The reception was always manned by male staff who were nothing but rude and ignorant towards the English.

The flights were a nightmare, Thomas Cook took our buggy off us at the gate and left us standing there with a baby asleep in our arms for 1 hour and 30 mins as we were last to board. You would expect a party with babies to board first, coming back was ok as we had the buggy until we boarded the flight.

Maspalomas is a very quiet place with not much to do with regards to night life, Playa del Ingles is a livelier resort and Puerto Rico is a place to see. Aqualand and Sioux City are a place to visit but would suggest you make your own way there or book elsewhere as it is much cheaper than with the rep.

A very nice place for a descent holiday for young or old but very ignorant staff at bungalows and a poor level of service from Thomas cook. Would not recommend Thomas Cook to anybody.

Comments:  Club Maspalomas has a good standard of accommodation which was kept nice and clean. You may want to take your own towels though as they are not very good quality.

There were only two of us and the bungalow was a perfect size but i would imagine its a little small for 4. The bedroom had a double bed and a single and the other bed was the sofa. It had a small breakfast bar, a fridge and two hobs in the kitchen. It is the sort of place for families or couples that want somewhere quieter to relax and don't mind being a little of the beaten track.

There is a free bus service in the morning to the beach and back and dinner time but its not really at convenient times. You can walk in about 20 mins or there is a local bus service around the corner but to be honest the taxis are so cheap we found this a easiest way to get around.

We found the area very expensive and would recommend that you go to Playas de ingles to eat, drink and shop even with a taxi there and back we found it a lot cheaper.

The FARO II shopping centre, a few minutes walk away had lovely food but most of the places were no cheaper than in the UK.

We really enjoyed ourselves and the accommodation was definitely good for the price we paid. The weather was lovely and hot but nice and cool at night, next time though I would stay closer to the beach or preferably in Puerto de Mogan which was small but a lovely old fishing village.

P.S. don't bother eating in the hotel buffet it is cheap but really not worth it.

Comments:  I went for Christmas and new year with 3 kids 10,7,1
And will be back again for new year '07 but will rent two bungalows. Club Maspalomas shares the site with Rio club and they provide two very different levels of accommodation....

I was glad to be booked into club Maspalomas as the accommodation was brand spanking new and brightly decorated, the location was prime for everything... The area was also very quite at night!

As nice and new as the bungalows were there was not enough space to swing a church mouse, if you like cooking with elbows by your side with no room to turn as the kitchen table is welded to the wall between sink/cooker/fridge then this is the place for you (they have developed new unit which has the fridge directly under the two cooking rings right next the sink!)

Pool was clean and cleaned daily, there r 3 pools good for kids and anyone who enjoys a good splash in chlorine!! The fresh water pool was always empty as it got full of big black flies!!

Buffet style restaurant was good for first few days but not much varied choice for veggies...if you like all meat then you will be in paradise.
1 good bit of advice is not to buy food shopping until you have practiced cooking in extreme cramped conditions... I wasted money as we ate out most evenings.. Eating out in faro II was very cheap with plenty of choice and only 5 minutes round the corner.

The coach to the beach goes 2x daily return for free, but by the time you sit down its time to get up as the beach is 5 mins drive 20 walk round!

Service: excellent!! Staff very friendly and on site 2r4hrs (bless em)and they did best to stop me from moaning about cold nights = extra sheets + heater, broken fridge door = new fridge put in same day, lights out in bathroom = repaired within the hour...I could go on.

Overall a very good holiday, accommodation just needs a bit more room in the living area as the twin bedroom was o.k. in size.

If you are looking for a good cheap base to sleep and go then this is it!!

Freeness: nightly disco for kids, entertainment, bingo, cocktail bar and all sorts of things I was not into!!!!!!

Bungalows are simply too small for 3 kids let alone 3 adults!!.........what saved them from my wrath was the excellent grounds, play area, massive gardens, food, very friendly staff (they love bambinos), location to dunes was perfect and the peace and quite was just like the brochure said.

Faro II shopping centre had everything we needed and was just a stone throw over a bridge supermarkets, clothes, toys, food, pubs clubs and bars... And just 10 mins walk was holiday world...fairground, bowling, amusement paradise for kids and adults alike!

The only problem for me is the cheap accommodation in the most expensive part of Gran Canaria!!
So finally please take an endless wad of money or stay in Playa Del Ingles = much cheaper!!

Comments:  A very unhygienic restaurant area. Onsite facilities were very poor, basically a pool which was not guarded and was used late into the night.

The walk to the beach was quite a way along a flood drain and to get to the main activities it was a lot further.

Having booked cheap late deals previously with Airtours we were very disappointed with the level of service received from Thomson in comparison and it was dearer to boot.

We have said we would not use Thomson again.
