Great location
from WorcestershireAlison
We only stayed here for one night as part of our tour but wish it could have been longer. Hotel in beautiful location right on the banks of the river where brahminy kites flew overhead. We had interconnecting rooms, very spacious, modern and well appointed with huge walk in showers. Balcony overlooked the river. Swimming pool looked nice but unfortunately it was pouring with rain when we arrived and we never got to spend any time by the pool. Food in the restaurant was ok, buffet with plenty of choice. We had lunch in the...

Excellent River Views
from DJPS
Having stayed at the Chaaya Village in Habarana, we were expecting a quality hotel with good staff. We were not disappointed. The hotel is well layed out and the room we had had an excellent view of the river and jungle. The meals were all of a very high standard and catered for most tastes. We love Sri Lankan cooking so were well catered for. The hotel is located some distance from Kandy town centre but the lcoation makes up for it being on the river bank. A highlight of the stay was observing the sunset flight of fruit bats down...

Hard to leave
from HeatherDavids
I found it difficult to leave this hotel at the end of our two-night stay. The views of the river were idyllic and I wanted to spend a week, undisturbed, writing or reading in the gazebo near the pool. The room was a perfect combination of luxury and Sri Lankan traditional themes, such as the unusual cut-outs in the walls and the light fittings. I don't usually like hotel buffets -- too much mediocre food -- but it seemed as if EVERYTHING was carefully prepared and spiced and attractively presented. I particularly appreciated the...

Lovely Riverside setting
from Margaret252
In this modern hotel our room was spacious with a balcony overlooking the river . Furnishings were comfortable and the bathroom was stunning. There was a lovely pool area with attentive staff. The large restaurant also took in the lovely view. There was a comprehensive buffet of good food but service, generally, in the hotel was rather impersonal.

Magnificent position overlooking the river
from suffolkpunch56
This hotel is in a magnificent position overlooking the river with a lovely swimming pool and terrace and restaurant all of which take in the view. The rooms are lovely and ours overlooked the river. The choice and quality of food in the restaurant was excellent but the table service a little haphazard. We would have no hesitation in staying in this hotel aqain.
Fabulous Hotel
from EssexguyChelmsford
This is a fabulous hotel in every respect. The room was well maintained, the bathroom excellently equipped with a good shower. The staff were friendly courteous and very helpful. The facilities were well maintained throughout. The Breakfast buffet was comprehensive with an omlette chef who knew how to make one! The a la carte restaurent was not tried but the Dinner buffet was a varied mixture of western and Sri Lankan cuisine. I thought it very good value. The hotel is about 5/6 kms from Kandy town centre but...

Wonderful setting
from Woolywanderer
We stayed for two nights here as part of a touring holiday. These were 24th and 25th December so this review cannot be typical! The hotel was fully booked but never felt overcrowded. The 'fine dining' on Christmas eve was good - even Santa dropped in. The buffet on Christmas night was adequate rather than good but we had been told that there was no alcohol being served as it was a holy day. However, some guests clearly had bottles of wine/beer on their tables which was indicative of the haphazard way the hotel service is run. The service...

A stunning riverside retreat
from Been_there_d0ne_that
We only stayed here for one night. it actually was part of a two day excursion we embarked on from Ahungalle but wow what a place. it is a stunning riverside location. The staff were excellent and the food was superb. If you are looking for a place to stay in kandy I would suggest you look this place up, the attached photos are the view from my balcony, the sounds are just as great with all manner of birdlife flying past. Fantastic, and the staff were excellent
I've been travelling all over the world for over 25 years, and it is in the Chaaya Citadel Hotel of Kandy that for the first time we had our money stolen in our room by the cleaning staff. And the management hasn't been equal to the situation, since the numbers of those... more
