The hotel is right on the sandy beach with occasional rocks - follow the small footpath through the shady greenery of the landscaped gardens and you will find easy access to sheltered swimming here. The Riu Cypria Maris is a spacious hotel with friendly staff. The lobby and coffee shop were fully refurbished in January 2004.

All i can say about this hotel is that its not what we expected at all only good thing was the food the rest was horrific!

No Entertainment if you wanted it you had to go to the Cypris Bay Hotel next door, we had money and a neckless stolen from our rooms in the 2 weeks we stayed there as did another party of guests staying there the same time as us.

Staff not very helpful or friendly, the best staff is in the bar on a night, they are very polite.

The pool area is very basic. The reception area is OK but there is no air con that you can actually feel and its the place to get biten constantly, everyone was biten in there! We had a nightmare with rooms at first but eventuallygot that sorted out after really pushing them after it is what we paid for anyway! They simply just don't care! Will never go back to the Cypria Maris!

My Husband and I have just got back (yesterday) from what I can only describe as a holiday from hell.

This was our second visit to Riu Cypria Maris as we stayed here in 2003, and got Married at the Town Hall and had our reception at Riu Cypria Bay. We were excited to revisit the hotel after enjoying it immensley the first time. However we experienced theft, and extremely unhelpful attitudes from the staff.

We had our camcorder stolen from our hotel room in the first week, and my mobile phone stolen from my handbag in the second week. One of our party also had cash stolen from a locked safe in their room, this was all reported to the hotel manager, the police and the rep who all in turn were extremely uhelpful and negative toward us.

We were also asked to move hotels as a favour to them as they had double booked, which we did only to be sent to a hotel (Laura Beach) that was dated, with dreadful food, rooms that were infested with ants, and our bedding was not changed at all in a full week.

All in all our once wonderful memory of RIU Cypria Maris has now been tainted with a dreadful experience that I will never forget.

We came here to get married and were not dissapointed.

The hotel was fantastic and the staff were helpful and friendly. The hotel is in a great position for the harbour and the triangle (Kato Paphos) and there were good bars just a short walk away.

The bar in the hotel wasn't fantastic and was very dark. There wasn't really anywhere to sit outside to have a drink at night.

Our room was great but we did have money stolen but this was probably our fault for not hiring a safe.

The food was excellent - coudn't be faulted at all and as for our wedding - that was fantastic and the attention to detail was somthing else. We ended up with about 4 bottles of champagne!

Highly recommended. Must visit the waterpark and the mini golf (both only about a 20 minute walk!)

I am 19 years old and went on holiday with my boyfriend. We had a fantastic holiday. The hotel is lovely.

Cyprus is extremely hot in July and paphos is a nice part of the island. Although hotel is situated on beach, the beach isnt the best small, not very clean. I would highly recommend the bus trip to Coral Bey beach which is beautifull. The bus service goes from outside the hotel and is fantastic.

Room

Our room was cleaned to a high standared daily, fresh towels, maids very friendly, towels in lovely swan shapes. Room very big, big bed, air conditioning was heaven!

Food

I am a very fussy eater and was very worried about the food. Fantastic choice and good food from pork, lamb, chips, pizzas, chicken nuggets, salds, spaghetti bolognese, chocolate brownies, ice cream, only 2 out of 14 days was i disappointed with the choice. Regular themed food nights are good.

Staff

Very friendly staff particulalry in the restaurant, good spoken English.

Overall

I would recommended this hotel to anyone, particularly couples. The only disappointment was the entertainment, not much going on at night, however, guests can use the enetainment at the Cypria Bay (nextdoor) ehich is good, we often walked to bars, pegasus bar, down the road, about a 10 minute walk which was nice. Pool is lovely and clean, food excellent and rooms are lovely. I would highly recommend Paphos Animal and Bird park.

I would love to go to Pahphos and the Cypria MAris again

I've just come back from this hotel and I have had one of the best holidays I have ever been on.

We had gone to the hotel for my friend’s wedding and from day one we enjoyed every minute of it. The maid service was excellent and every day the towels were shaped differently on the bed, like a swan or a heart.

The food was amazing and cooked in front of you. The staff in restaurant were so friendly and the entertainment staff even better!

No limits were great, I admit for some Brits they may find some entertainment a little lame but a lot of it is traditional dancing which may not be for you.

The kids club is fantastic and it’s the first holiday I’ve come back and would fly back out tomorrow.

The wedding was so special under a romantic gazebo overlooking the sea and the reception was outside in the sunset.

As I am a professional singer I have been too many hotels and venues, but I have never had such fun and I would like to thank the entire hotel for making my stay a great one!

Excellent hotel for any age. Rooms were lovely with a free room upgrade and bottle of wine as it was our honeymoon.

The food was excellent and served all the time.

Right on the beach. Would recommend.

Swimming pool was lovely and large with waterfalls and bridges, also had a poolside bar.

Just returned from honeymoon, and I have to say that this hotel was all we could have hoped for. This is the place to do as little or as much as you wish.

The location was ideal for us. We were second to be dropped off, arriving from the airport after a 15 minute transfer which was a bonus as our flight arrived in Paphos at 2am. Once at the hotel we were checked in very swiftly and professionally, and found our sea view room to be very clean and welcoming with a double bed, and complimentary champagne and fruit basket.

We attended the usual welcome meeting the morning after and were a little disappointed at the prices of some of the excursions, although Cyprus did prove to be more expensive that we had thought.

If you like to walk, then the trip into Paphos harbour takes approx 45 minutes, however two buses pass the hotel. The number 11 takes you as far as Coral Bay (a must if you like the sea/beach), and the number 15 takes you to Paphos old town (all shops are closed on Sundays) Both buses stop at the harbour and cost 80 cents per person, however far you go.

Food and drink were on tap as we were all inclusive, and there was something for everyone. A choice of 3 beers which went down very well, and if you wanted a pint, you got one. I must mention Lily and Iscovas who work in the pool bar during the day. They are wonderful people.

The food quality was very good, different every day, and the service was second to none. You could tell that The Semili Restaurant was under the supervision of experienced people, as it run like clockwork, not easy when you are feeding over 500 people.

The animation staff work very hard and its easy to like them. The shows they put on demonstrate their ability to be all round entertainers, although I do think they are let down be an awful band (No Limits)......Should be more like Off Limits.

Overall we were very satisfied with Thomson and the Cypria Bay hotel, and would definitely consider returning in the future. Good food, good weather, exceptional staff.

Holidays for us usually fly by, but the relaxing pace of this hotel meant we felt like we had definitely got our two weeks worth.

We stayed in this hotel for 2 weeks. On arrival at the hotel we were told that the hotel was overbooked and our room had been given to another family therefore we had to be moved to another hotel next door.

It took three days to sort out. On the 3rd day after endless arguments we were then moved back into the hotel. Although this was stressful the remaining 11 days were excellent!!!!

The entertainment + entertainment staff (keith, laura c, laura b, stephanie, janka and zico) were all fantastic. The bar staff and restaurant staff are really friendly. Didn’t want to leave at the end of the holiday. Intend to return in October or next year.

Myself and four other friends booked our holiday to Cypria Bay in January 2006. On arrival at the hotel we were told the hotel had over booked and we were being moved to their sister hotel next door, The Maris. We were told the hotel was the same as The Cypria Bay and we would be upgraded for any inconvenience. When asked what the upgrade was, we were told it was a half board hotel but we would be put on an all inclusive list. I don't see how that is an upgrade when we had booked and paid for all inclusive in the first place. We were then told we would be given side sea view rooms... again, we had already paid for this. So in actual fact our upgrade turned out to be free rental of the safe in the room. Not what I call an upgrade. Due to arriving late in the evening and expressing our concern at staying in a different hotel we had no choice but to move. When we checked in at The Maris, it was apparent the hotel was no where near as nice as the Cypria Bay.

After spending one night there, we complained to our Thomas Cook rep the next day who managed to move us back in to the Cypria Bay the following day. This ruined the first couple of days of our holiday due to packing and unpacking 3 times and waiting around for rooms to become available. We had requested our rooms be adjacent - they were at opposite ends of the hotel and on different floors. In the second bedroom we paid for an extra bed. After chasing the hotel for this extra bed, it turned out to be a mattress on the floor!!! After complaining again, we were given a 'put up' bed. We had also paid for side sea view rooms and were given rooms over looking the car park and road. So all in all we were very angry and disappointed with the hassle and time wasted during the first few days.

Putting that aside, the Cypria Bay is a lovely hotel (although the bath towels could do with being changed more often and the covers on the bedding smelt very musty). Trying to get a sun bed round the pool in the morning was hard work (unless you got up at 8am to put your towels down). However, with the beach right behind, there we plenty of extra sun beds near by - and with a slight breeze too.

The Pool Bar was a great touch and Peter who worked there was fantastic. Very friendly and helpful and would always check you were ok or if you needed anything. He really is an asset to the Cypria Bay.

The food was very impressive. Normally on all inclusive the food can be of a lower standard and with seating times for dinner it can be a worry about getting the last of the food. However, all the food was fresh and with chefs at every station producing fresh food very quickly. The restaurant manager was wonderful. Again, very friendly and accommodating and enjoyed plenty of banter with him every time we went down for dinner.

The animation team could be slightly annoying during the day (especially if you had a hangover). They were great with children/teenagers but there was very little interaction with anyone other than that (unless it was to ask for money for raffle tickets etc). There was plenty going on during the day such as water polo, volley ball etc but again for the kiddies. Evening entertainment was quite good. A few shows were put on in the hotel mini-club 'Falcon' and a fantastic fire show is put on outside on Saturdays. The supervisor of the animation team was the star of this show, eating fire, lying on a bed of nails, walking on glass and so on. He was incredible! Definitely worth watching!

On the Beach behind the hotel were pedal boats, a sea trampoline, slides etc and also where you can pay for a number of water sports. The Jet Skiing was great, about 18 Cypriat pounds for 25 mins.

We did two excursions through Thomas Cook. One was a catamaran cruise to Coral Bay. This was very good and the staff on the catamaran were great. Coral Bay wasn't as amazing as people had made out but still worth a visit. We also went to the water park which we walked to from the hotel in about ten minutes. We were told we could pay upfront which meant no queuing to get in or just pay when we get there. I would strongly recommend you pay in advance to skip the queues. They were very very long and you pay no extra for booking in advance.

The location of the Cypria Bay, in my opinion, was perfect. 20 mins from airport, five mins in a cab to the Harbour and plenty of shops and restaurants right outside the hotel. If you're looking for a night out on the razzle, there is Bar Street a few mins away but the minute you get there there's all the pr's trying to get you into their bars offering your free drinks etc. Feels like you're being hassled and all you want to do is walk round and see which bar takes your fancy. Was also very young. Personally the bars on the way to the harbour were better. Especially Splash - a karaoke bar but with tribute singers to start the night off and get you in the mood.

All in all, the hotel and location was superb but the issue of over booking certainly needs addressing. And there were plenty of other people we spoke to who had exactly the same problem so it happens a lot.

The hotel was superb the staff were absolutely lovely and they could not do enough for you. The housekeepers made towel sculptures and put them on your bed every day. Attention to details made this a really special place to stay. The food was very good it may even be worth staying on a full board basis although there are plenty of restaurants near by with excellent food. Paphos itself is nice and there is plenty to do such as the tomb of the kings etc. You must visit the town and catch the bus to Kato Paphos. Also the waterpark is a good day out and quite reasonable. I would definitely say you must include a visit to Egypt. We fly out for one day - it was frantic and tiring but worth every penny. You get to see the Great Pyramid and the museums. It was a fabulous day but beware of the Egyptian salespeople - it is non stop say Lah Shakra

Just came back on 29/08/2005 from Rui Cypria Bay.

As per all previous reports my wife myself and our 6yr old boy all had a great time, hotel was excellent and all staff from cleaners to cooks etc all excellent. Rooms and all the hotel meticulously maintained. Will not go over all the previous point except to say a great great place to stay and would definitely go again.

I’ve been to Cyprus 3 times, Tenerife, Portugal, Austria, Vegas, Salzburg, Tunisia, Turkey, France, Egypt and this was up with the best.

the breakfast in the morning is vast and incorporates a full English breakfast with proper fried eggs and boiled and scrambled. Bacon is available very lean or streaky if required.

Proper tea, coffee, toast always ( full continental options also available ). The hotel give you unlimited bath/beach towels so you don’t need to pack any, room has unlimited shampoo, soap and shower gel so don’t pack any hairdryer is also included.

Evening meals always include a great selection of various dishes from pizza, pasta 3 cooked meats i.e. pork, lamb, chicken, turkey, fish, rices, chips, 2 soups vegetarian dishes x3 chesses, so even fussy eaters like us could eat well and kids/adults can always choose from pizza chips hotdog sausages and even proper chicken nuggets with no gristle etc. Local free unlimited beer is Keo and Carlsberg.

Evening entertainment is slightly limited but the kids disco for under 10s is run superbly and all kids love the hosts. No need for travel plugs as our normal 3pin plugs.

I had to use a local hospital due to an ear infection and was seen straight away in their modern hospital that looks like it was only built yesterday. Seen on a Saturday morning with no queuing and seen by 100% perfect English speaking receptionist and doctor and then pharmacist. Much better than our hospitals and if I was knocked down tomorrow know where I would prefer to be treated.

Taxi to main harbour around 4pounds which pass in front of the hotel every 10 mins, busses £1 and approx every 30 mins.

the sports bars in town show lots of live Saturday and other days premiership matches that we don’t receive in England.

(note if approached by people offering you a free scratch card whilst out around town this is timeshare so politely decline saying you’ve done two already and they will leave you alone with a honest parting of enjoy your holiday ( they will only approach once or twice and are not a problem on this Ireland).

You don’t need any coins for the airport for trolleys etc as there’s unlimited trolleys for you to locate and no locals will be bombarding you offering to carry your bags for a tip.

Coach transfer to hotel approx 15 mins. You could easily come to this hotel with no other monies and apart from the cost of £9 additional pounds for a room safe if needed you could get by on no other money.

Hope this has not gone on too long but just wanted to cover some other areas for first time visitors.

Needless to say unless your looking for a 18-30 style vacation than this is an holiday experience you will enjoy fully.

Just back from the Rui Cypria Maris.

Very clean inside the hotel same in the rooms with as mentioned towels arranged in a nice way every day.

Pool is VERY deep. 2.5m. the pool was a deep green colour and cloudy when we arrived. We took it for granted but we heard one guest complain loudly about it. Next day the pool was blue and crystal clear. Pool technicians were constantly working on the pool, lifting covers, taking samples and adding chemicals. A bit off putting during the day. The drains around the pool are a bit dirty with algae growing on them. We never saw these cleaned.

No 6am rush for sunbeds in the morning but you do have to get your towel down by 10.

Animation team could be a bit annoying and they did take over the pool at times.

Breakfast at the hotel was disappointing. The restaurant seemed to be understaffed. Very hard to get coffee and for about 5 days out of 14 we did without and a few other days we hunted it down ourselves. Plates were also not taken away.

Service was better in the evening.

Paphos was very expensive to eat out in so we changed to HB for our last week for 41CYP. The hotel has an offer of 7 days for the price of 6. Very nice food, probably the best hotel buffet we’ve been to. Not a huge choice but very nice and good quality.

Hotel is a bit open to 'visitors' with the path network along the beach. We unfortunately saw one woman’s purse being stolen from the pool bar while she was there. Everyone realised too late what was happening and she lost 100CYP. This is unusual for Cyprus I'm told and the thief did look more GB than Cypriot.

Drinks are expensive at night so we would go to some of the bars about 10 minutes walk away.

Bus route just outside the hotel to take you into Paphos harbour /Coral bay or the other way to the waterpark. 60-70p each.

A nice hotel but we probably won’t be back, there were other equally nice hotels in the area we could have gone to for a lot less ££.

Too dated for the 4* rating, more like a 3*. Bar area dark and dingy, supposed to be maritime theme. This meant often empty on an evening. Food good and nice touches in the rooms with the towels. Pool area clean and plenty of sunbeds. Good walk into the harbour 5 euros for taxis, bus regular.

There are nicer hotels further along road into Paphos. Disappointed for it to be a Rui Hotel. But Paphos itself is lovely and well worth visiting.

What can I say!! The best 1 week holiday that I have ever been on! arrived early hours of the 30th august and to our surprise the hotel had arranged for cold plates of food with complimentary drink to be waiting for us on arrival! what a lovely thought - we were indeed hungry after our flight and thought it a wonderful gesture!

Our room was large but most importantly CLEAN! Absolutely spotless as was our medium-sized bathroom! Housekeeping was amazing! We had a different arrangement of towels waiting for us every time - whether it is two swans kissing, a basket of flowers, and a shell. most enjoyable and all added to the overall pleasure of our holiday...the little things make such a difference! Reception and staff were extremely friendly and bent over backwards to assist you in any way.

The hotel was approximately a 20minute walk to the harbour, however I personally think a bus was needed, (high shoes didn’t help!) However, it was just outside the hotel and only 50p. Taxis into the town and main resort were about four Cypriot pounds but I am sure you could haggle if you wanted to! We were right next to its twin hotel the Cypria Bay and it really was not a separate hotel at all. It was all interlinked as paths were one. We switched to different pools as they were different and it was lovely to have such choice.

Food was beautiful...and what choice!!! Could not have asked for better, absolutely mouth-watering. Many guests were English and there were no sunbed grapping early hours of the morning at all! Evening entertainment was great - a brilliant selection playing every night. However for a change you are most welcome to attend the entertainment next door at the cypria bay hotel.

There were so many facilities and lots to do, excursions were plentiful and varied too. Our rep was fantastic, not in the least bit pushy...very helpful!

Overall a wonderful, luxurious holiday. Cannot fault it in the slightest! Definitely would recommend it for all ages and would go back myself!!!

Pool area very nice and always clean. Fantastic beachfront location, we booked an inland view room and received a sea view room. When we arrived we got a well-needed welcome drink of fresh orange. Our room was very nice, although the prices for the minibar were very expensive.

our room was cleaned everyday and we had clean towels everyday. I thought the hotel was very nice and well worth the money, I would definitely go back again. The only things which we found wrong was the evening entertainment was poor, we watched the same people about 3 times a week.

Although the food was lovely we got a bit sick of eating pork and red bream! More choice of main meals was needed, and also the ice cream scoop cleaner is very noisy in the dining room, which we were sat next too. Overall it was a fantastic holiday and Cyprus as a place was one of the nicest places I’ve ever been to.
