Hotel Barcelo Fuerteventura is well deserving of its 4 star rating. Many people have described the rooms and all the comments are accurate.
The rooms are fabulous. The mini fridge had two bottles of water on arrival and two complimentary packets of peanuts. The shower gels and shampoos are replaced as necessary.
There are cards in the room which you are meant to use if you want your linen or towels changed. We never got around to using them because both were changed very frequently.
The towels loaned for use around the pool are huge and will cost a deposit of 10 Euros each. There are some negative comments about the food but we thoroughly enjoyed it.
We didn't go all inclusive as we don’t drink alcohol. Half board for 2 worked out about 15 Euros a day cheaper than even if we had paid the 36 Euros upgrade (for 2 people) the hotel was quiet at this time of the year with only about half a dozen school age children around.
This meant plenty of sun beds all day every day. We moved around frequently with the sun. The pools were extremely cold hence all the photos are of empty pools. Their maximum depth throughout is 1.2 metres.
The reception staff were very courteous and even took the time to teach me some Spanish. The entertainment was lame but quite funny if you are open to very amateur performances.
The internet connection is very expensive at 1 euro for 8 minutes.
The hotel is situated a mere 10 minutes drive from the airport. There is not only aircraft noise but all the planes can be seen in their full glory with their landing equipment down as they coast over the hotel to land. (Photos show how low they are).
There are no early flights or late at night flights so they will not bother you during sleeping hours. The hotel is next to a small pleasant shopping area and if you cross the road opposite is another small array of shops and restaurants including the Saturday market.
The shops selling cameras are selling old out dated stock that can be bought cheaper in this country. Mind you if you tell them this then suddenly they reduce the price by a further 30 Euros or so.
From the back of the hotel is a pleasant walk to a small harbour where you can feed the fish or catch the land train to nowhere in particular. Behind the hotel is two small crazy golf courses. I think they are rightly named crazy as the smoothness at the holes leaves a lot to be desired.
The Thaloss therapy also behind the hotel is 15 euro admission but well worth every penny. There are lots of soaking sections with differing temperatures, powerful jets for a full body massage.
Huge Jacuzzi, steam room and sauna. All of the water is salt water so does sting the eyes somewhat. You are given white towel and flip flops on arrival and a key to your locker.
Do not be fooled by the advert saying there is a cafe area. Yes there is, but everything is out of machines. It just means, you must only eat in that area (so take your own food) There is free drinking water.
The weather was very variable with quite a lot of cloud and strong winds. We did a check on 5 weather sites before we left and they were all wrong. The sun is still strong unless it is completely overcast in which case it is very chilly.
Out of one week we only had one day where we never saw the sun at all.
There is a cat charity which operates around the hotel and all the cats have their own cat cafe in the garden where you can feed them and they can have fresh water to drink.
The charity also neuters the cats and you can tell which ones have been done as their ears are clipped.
We would definitely go back to this hotel at this time of the year not so sure about the middle of the high season.
If you want to ask any questions please do not hesitate to ask me through the forums.

Well what can I say? This holiday was brilliant! The hotel was fantastic, the food was fantastic, the beaches are fantastic, and the huge selection of food is excellent.
The hotel is modern and clean, the hotel is literally almost on the harbour beach which is lovely, although the best beach we went to was near the water park which is about 40mins away from resort on the coach.
It is well worth going to visit as the sea is crystal clear and the sand is pure white. Ah fantastic.
Fuerteventura can be quite windy although when the sun is beaming down on you it’s a really nice breeze which keeps you cool.
Hotel Barcelo is 4* pure luxury, the whole time we was there we kept saying WOW!
It was expensive for 1 week but you pay for quality and this hotel definitely is the Ritz!

My wife and myself stayed at the hotel in Oct 06 the weather was great sun for the 2 weeks. The food was very good with loads of choice and varied.
The hotel is right on the beach there is a market to the front of the hotel on a Sat morning. The bus stop is about 10 mins away and you can get a bus every half hour get a time table from the hotel.
the only down side to the stay was the bar the waiters are so slow we gave up drinking at the bar and went across the road plenty of choice of bars within the resort there are plenty of sun beds so you wont have to get up early to put your towels out. I will recommend it to all types of holiday makers and families.

We loved this resort and hotel so much that we are definitely booking it again for next summer! When we were dropped off by the coach, we were the only ones getting off at this hotel and we thought "Oh my god, what's wrong with this place then?", but when we walked through to the reception we were just blown away with the posh, modern and cleanliness of it.
The room was really nice too, really clean. NOTE: If you get in your room and there's no electricity then stick your door key card into the slot in the box on the wall near the door. It's a great idea but don't forget your key card when you go out! You'll need this if you leave the hotel grounds as it's all secured with big wooden gates and you need you key card to get back in! We found this idea brilliant because it doesn't allow riff raff from other hotels to enter the pools etc. Hahahahaha!
Ok, so the hotel and the room is all good, yeah? The food was brill too. Having 2 kids with us it was quite easy to feed them which pleased us all. The buffet style restaurant had lots of normal food like chips, pizza, pasta, salads and then maybe a few different dishes each night. Breakfast was virtually the same each day. Full English, toast, fruit, pancakes (try them, they are fantastic) etc. Like I said, loads of food for the kids and loads of high chairs if required. If you have a sweet tooth then you'll enjoy the puddings, there's absolutely tons of them! NOTE: Don't sit on a table that has more chairs than people sitting there, you will get told off!
The outside pools were all really clean and it all looked fantastic at night, all lit up. The shallow children’s pool is where my 2 spent a lot of their time but if you want to sit around the pools then you'll have to get up early and get your towel out there as the sun beds got taken up quite quickly. One of the pools is heated and it was like getting into a bath.
The hotel staff are all friendly and the evening entertainment was good, normally a shortened version of a top musical and yet again, it gets very busy so get there early to get a good sit/table. Everyday there's different activities to take part in such as bowling, wind surfing, clay pigeon shooting etc or if you just prefer chilling out then this place is great for you too. The staff don't pester you to take part in anything!
The beach was really nice, a man made beach so slightly bumpy and hard in the middle on the way down to the sea but further down its lovely sand and great for the kids to play in! Very clean!. Loads of sun beds and umbrellas each day so no need to rush for them. It was hot when we were there but a lovely breeze kept us cool (ish).
NOTE: Beach photographers can be a pain in the bot, just tell them NO!
There's plenty of shops/eating places/bars around and plenty of places where you can buy inflatables for the sea and souvenirs to take home. There are also a couple of supermarkets for you to buy your drinking water and other bits.
Well, what else can I say? The hotel, room, beach, resort were all great and we are looking forward to going back next year. This is a great place to go if you require a relaxing and quiet holiday yet great for kids too! Don't go here if you want mad night life because there isn't any!
Hope this helps you make up your mind.

My boyfriend and I stayed at Hotel Barcelo Fuerteventura for two weeks end of May-beginning of June. We paid a brilliant price (454 pp half board for two weeks) and got an absolutely fantastic hotel in a beautiful area on an amazing island for it! For us the area was perfect-with enough shops to buy food etc, a lovely beach (the best section of the beach is actually a short walk down the front, outside the Sheraton hotel).
I would say the only complaint I think we had with the hotel were the maids-in the middle of the day lumps of hair and dust were in the middle of the corridors and didn't seem to be cleaned up, they didn't fold the towels nicely when they cleaned the room, just left them in a heap, didn't mop the floor properly, wipe round the bath or anything like that. Use some blue tack or micropore tape to stick the DND sign on the door if you use it, otherwise the breeze will blow it off! Did find that the maids kept coming in if the make up the room sign wasn't even out, which was a pain.
Other that that, the hotel's lovely. Main course at dinner did get a little boring after a while, but starters were great and for a sweet tooth like me, desserts were brilliant (though bad as I ate too many!). Only other complaint would be the entertainment. The professional shows were brilliant, but the shows by the entertainment team were utterly awful. They were advertised as musicals, but were actually some of the team miming badly along to some of the soundtrack from the shows. We'd have rather they sung badly they didn't try to at all! We would definitely go there again (and this from a couple who've always said we want to go somewhere new every time we go away!).
I think it was great for all ages (we're 19 and 21). Don't go if you want to go clubbing, because you'll be disappointed! It was perfect for low-key holiday. We're active, but not in a noisy place, and this Island, hotel and resort were ideal.

Stayed in the Barcelo Fuerteventura for 2 weeks in April 2006. Very good hotel for young children as there is plenty to do in the complex. My 2 year old daughter loved the children's pool and was delighted that she was able to play with her dingy in it (unlike our holiday in Italy last year when she was unable to bring a ball into the pool!)
There was also a small play area for young children, which she loved and there seemed to be a good kids club for older kids.
Rooms were generous with large beds and we never felt cramped. No problems getting a travel cot. We stayed in block 2 and had a great view of the swimming pools.
Food was of a high standard, both for breakfast and dinner, but if we ever fancied a change there were plenty of eating places 5 minutes away. Stay away from the aloe vera grill bar if you don't like burnt chicken nuggets or cardboard pizzas. Service here was poor as was the food, and waiters seemed to have 1 speed!
No problems getting extra towels, pillows or bathmats from the hotel. There is a doctor just across the road which was great for us when our daughter took bronchitis, and also a pharmacy next door to the hotel.
Overall we had a great family holiday.

Very clean lovely hotel. Large rooms 6ft wide bed + full size bed settee. Take brewing kit. Block 2 best view of best used pools & sea. Save weight don't bring towels, plenty in room + you can hire as many as you want for a deposit, returned at end of hols, change free everyday if you wish.
Good daily entertainment for all, best stage & seating I have seen in any hotel. Plenty of sun beds for all. Restaurant food & staff fantastic, keep away from snack bar though food ****. Use gate rear of snack bar into small centre, Blues Bar do nice snacks. If you want night life do not come here, its dead at night.
One fault about 12 cats around & doing their business in kid’s sand, hotel know clean up they say & are scared of complaints of getting rid of them, holidaymakers are feeding them too. If you want a similar hotel quiet area but a short taxi to night life then Princess Hotel Maspalomas. I am 68 & it was too quiet for me, roll on Ibiza Town in May.

What can I say-we had such a good time we are going back in December!
Rooms are roomy-bed is the largest I have ever seen and they are kept immaculately clean with daily sheet and towel changes if you require.
The meals are buffet style with plenty of choice for the most fussy eaters, some mornings they served cava which was lovely to make a Bucks Fizz! Pancakes, bacon, eggs, sausages, omelettes etc etc were all smashing for brekkie.
In the evening there was a choice of meats and fish -all freshly cooked in front of you and a variety of salads and vegetables. The choice of desserts was awesome-we went for a week and all put on weight!
The pool area is stunning with two very large pools and a snack bar. I cannot say anything bad about this hotel, the staff were very friendly and helpful and we cannot wait to go back again!!

This hotel was of a high standard, nice big clean rooms, the
food was very good, plenty of choice, and plenty of it. the only faults we had, was, the first day we could not get a sunbed, as everyone of them had towels on them as early as
0830 in the morning, although were loads of sunbeds, this
happened every day, so we used the club Barcelo pool 100yds away, (nice and quiet). The evening entertainment
was of a low standard for a high class hotel. and finally, the
hotel admit that it did not have enough staff to cater over the
half term school holiday, as getting served in the bar at night
took a long time (even though the bar staff worked really hard) this also applied in the restaurant, having to wait for a
clean table etc.
Overall, we would go back to the hotel again, but certainly not during school holidays. At a quieter time the hotel would
probably be excellent.

Our second visit to the Barcelo - still very impressed. Bar staff remembered us from 18 months previous - polite - good service.
Reception staff - plenty of them and good service.
Restaurant - always a good selection - sometimes (and I mean sometimes - the waiting staff did appear to make several trips when only 1 was needed).

My husband and I spent 7 days in Caleta de Fuste at the Barcelo Fuerteventura. We found the hotel in itself to be very clean and attractive. The rooms were comfortable as well. What appears to be marble tile or something like it is everywhere in the hotel, the floors, walls and stairs inside and out.
We went half-board which I must say we'll never do it again since to us it was a complete waste of money. Both breakfast and dinner was buffet and there wasn't much of a change in the menu from day to day. The steak (as they called it) was so well done it couldn't even be cut with a knife. The chicken was undercooked and was pink. The bacon was basically just thrown onto the griddle for about 2 minutes, just long enough to make it curl as it does, turned over once and then taken off and put in the pan for serving. Not very appealing to say the least. Oh, they also served brussel sprouts, broccoli and cauliflower for BREAKFAST. Maybe it's just me, but those are not normal items for breakfast.
The waiting staff were excellent for the first 2 or 3 days. "Johnny on the spot" with bringing your coffee (at breakfast only), then after the 3rd day, you almost had to go and get someone to do this. And forget about getting any tea or coffee at dinner! It's non existent.
Upon your arrival at the hotel, reception eagerly tells you that they "have their own private beach" and that you use your room key to get to the beach. Now, when you look at the beach from where the hotel is, it's wonderful looking, you see loads of lounge chairs and umbrellas. One would think that since reception made a point to tell you that it's their "private beach" that the chairs belonged to the hotel as well and was there for the residents use. Well, yes they are for the residents use, but for a price of 7.50 Euros per day. If you were going to lay on the beach everyday, that could get a bit much. Needless to say that we didn't use the loungers and lay on the beach on towels as did a lot of other people.
I know this sounds negative and that we really didn't like the place at all, but quite the contrary. These were just some of the things that were really annoying and left a large impression.
If we were to go back to Fuerteventura we would definitely return to the Barcelo Fuerteventura, but would only want to go self catering. The food was not impressive at all.
Oh one other thing, if you are English or can only speak English don't count on watching too many things or TV. The only stations they have are news channels BBC World, CNN and I think it was one sports channel. The rest are Spanish, French (1), and German(3).

The resort is definitely one of the best I have ever been to, the people are friendly, and this is the kind of resort that has not yet been spoiled by tourism.
The place is relatively quiet and most bars have shut by midnight, it is ideal for families and couples that just want to chill out. The beach is superb (although could do with topping up in places) and extremely safe for children who can paddle right out without having to worry.
The Barcelo has an ideal location with a gated exit straight on to the beach, it could not be better placed, however contrary to what others have wrote on here we found the hotel itself very average !
We stayed for 2 weeks and the pools were not cleaned properly at all in this time, a newspaper stayed where it was for over a week!! Everyone commented on how cold the pools were which is why on most photos you see, there is no one in them!
The rooms are a nice size and of average cleanliness, the linen and towels are changed as often as you want but most of the mess swept up ends up under the bed or behind the bathroom door.
The entertainment is no better or worse than you would expect from a 4 star hotel, some of the acts bought in are excellent while the in house entertainment is pretty poor, and some of it is funny but for all of the wrong reasons.
There are some excellent restaurants around such as Fado Rock and for a home from home Sunday dinner or jacket potato visit Tommy Nutters.
Overall, excellent people and resort, average hotel, I would definitely go again but either to a different hotel or with lower expectations of the Barcelo to prevent disappointment.
