We stayed here for 2 weeks and cannot fault the accommodation , food, or service. The buffet breakfast was ample and the evening meal was beautifully presented with an excellent choice . We were always given the option of taking our meal on the open air terrace and were... more

Beautiful part of the country, lovely hotel with extensive views over the Lake. Hotel decor a bit jaded, dated, could do with a good face lift. Quality and size of rooms varied tremendously, and was not reflected in the price. Although we paid an extra £50.00 for a... more

Our favorite hotel of all time
We just returned from an early October stay at the Grand Hotel Tremezzo, and we loved everything about the experience. Maybe because the high season is over, the staff can afford to be more attentive, but we had no complaints about anything. We were lucky to get a very large corner room on the third floor with sweeping views of the lake from two large french doors and a large french door window in the bathroom as well. We had just driven from Venice, were hot and tired when we arrived, and were so comforted to find the robe and slippers waiting for us in our gorgeous, terracotta-colored room. The porter was helpful and whisked our car away as we entered the spacious public rooms that whispered elegant rest and refinement. We had only one dinner at the hotel, which was served on the terrace overlooking the winking lights reflected on the lake. The food was expensive (as was most of our experience in Italy), but delicious and ably served. And breakfast was such a treat, food presented in handsome antique silver containers or charming Italian pottery...fluffy eggs, a fine choice of teas and jams. I guess you get the idea. I can't say enough nice things about the hotel. Swimming season was over but the gardens still inspired. We heartily recommend this hotel. We stayed three nights and then moved on to Lake Maggiore to the Grand Hotel des Iles Borromees. We found it quite overdone and the staff aloof in comparison to Tremezzo.
best place on the lake
I stayed at the Grand Tremezzo for 8 days in September and loved every minute of it. The staff was very helpful to me and always answered my questions and resolved any problems. In fact, I was originally scheduled to stay there for only 4 days but I cancelled the rest of my vacation and stayed there. Although the food is a bit expensive, it is excellent. As an alternative, there is a restaurant called The Red and White Bar that serves good food at reasonable prices within walking distance to the hotel. The hotel has a beautiful terrace that provides the best view on the lake and offers multiple pools, a small gym, sauna and beautiful gardens. I will continue to go back as long as I am able.
An Elegant But Tired and Aging Grande Dame
After considerable research we elected to stay here for a few days in 9/04. When arriving, the hotel makes quite an impression, since it really is Grand. Location right on Lake Como, just across from Bellagio is excellent. However, the lobby and common areas are tired and dated. Our room had a great lakefront view and was comfortable but on the small side. The staff here is exceptionally bad. When we arrived they told us to wait in the lobby for 10 min. while the room was being prepared. We were not offered anything while we waited, and in fact sat there for 30 mins without any attention from a staff member. When I went back to the desk to inquire about our room, they had no recollection we were waiting and had to start over. We were repeatedly mis-directed by the staff on routine issues such as hours of operation of local gardens, ferry schedules, and restaurant info. This hotel is extremely expensive and there is no value here. PS: Things seemed to be running more efficiently at the Serbelloni or Florence in Bellagio.
Lovely Setting, Some Glitches
We spent two nights at the Grand Hotel Tremezzo in early September. The views of Lake Como from the lobby and the rooms are magnificent, the grounds are lovely and the pool adjacent to the lake was a hit with our two boys. While the staff was informative, we found some at the reception desk impersonal and bureaucratic. My wife and I had a first floor room overlooking the lake that was sweltering at night even with the a/c at full blast; when we called to see what could be done, we were told that it was a "first floor problem" and that nothing could be done until the following day. The next day, when we returned from Como, the staff had "fixed" the problem by lowering the blinds and closing the curtains, which made the room cooler but gave us no view and made balcony access unwieldy. (Our children's first floor room, facing a beautiful garden in the back, was cool throughout). Given the elegance of the setting, we would happily return ... just to a higher floor.
Very Nice
We stayed at the Grand Hotel Tremezzo during the first four nights of our honeymoon. It is a beautiful hotel and our room was gorgeous -- with a nice balcony and wonderful view of the lake. Our only complaint was that the staff was not that friendly or helpful. Though they tout their poolside food & drink service, we had to make a concerted effort to track down someone to place an order with. Also, Tremezzo itself is very tiny and sleepy. Bellagio is more of a lively tourist spot. All in all, an above-average hotel in a very lovely setting. But if you're looking for more action, stay in Bellagio.
Lake Como! Bellissima!
Lake Como is simply beautiful with the clear lake rimmed by majestic, green, mountains and terra-cotta roofed towns clinging to the mountain sides. It is a very romantic spot. The food was delicious and the people in the towns friendly. We stayed at the Grand Tremezzo Hotel. It is a lovely, old, hotel with wonderful views of the lake from the terrace cafe and the main restaurant. We had a good sized room at the front of the hotel over-looking the lake. Fantastic view! A small balcony with two chairs. Large bathroom with shower. The hotel has three pools. The one at the back of the hotel was great with a pretty garden surrounding it and plenty of cushioned lounges. A small pool right in front of the hotel but noisy because the main road is just below the pool. The large freshwater pool on the lakeside was not open which was disappointing. Work was being done on a privacy wall between the road and the lounging area in front of the pool. This area looked like a terrific spot to spend a hot afternoon with a terrific view of lake lounging under a beach umbrella. The staff at the hotel was very friendly. I would recommend this four star hotel. It has an excellent location right across Lake Como from the town of Bellaggio and in between two ferry stops to visit the towns in the middle of the lake. Villa Carlotta is right next door with superb gardens. This is the most beautiful area I have been to in Europe.
We're repeat visitors!
My wife and I have stayed at the Grand Hotel Tremezzo on two occasions, most recently during the second week of September, 2001 (yes, including September 11). Due to the terrorism in the USA, we were unable to leave as scheduled - delayed four days. The staff and other guests could not have been more concerned and helpful during that difficult time. The service, amenities and cuisine are great. One small annoyance is the traffic noise, particularly the motorcycles, but that's Italy. As testimony to our enjoyment of the Grand Hotel Tremezzo, we're revisiting in September 2004.
Dream Hotel
We have just returned from a weeks holiday at the Grand Tremezzo and this was the email we sent to them: We stayed at the Grand Tremezzo from 30th May to the 6th June 2004 and were married in Bellagio on the 4th June. We wanted to write to thankyou for the wonderful service we received during our visit. The hotel truly is beautiful but what makes it really 5 star are the staff who could not have been more friendly and helpful. Our wedding reception was held at the hotel and we were again delighted by the service we received. The champagne reception on the terrace was superb and the food was delicious. We cannot thankyou and your staff enough for making this a fabulous holiday and the wedding of our dreams. We hope to visit again in the near future and will recommend the hotel to all our friends and family.
Can I just live there?
My husband and I have stayed at the Grand Hotel Tremezzo three times -- the first being on our honeymoon four years ago and the last being September 2003. And we will be back! We love the old world charm, yet lack of stuffiness. The staff is very gracious, the grounds are beautiful, and the views terrific! It is definitely worth paying for a lake view -- there is nothing like seeing the sun shine back on Bellagio as it sets, and seeing that beautiful lake, with the Alps in the background, at all times of day. Overall, the room prices are a good deal for that class of hotel. The hotel restaurant is good as well - and the breakfasts are very good (be sure to get a table on the terrace overlooking the lake). We also recommend a nice restaurant in the area: "Al Velu," as well as the prix fixe eating extravaganze at Isla di Comacina (a little boat takes you there for dinner from a neighboring town). Tremezzo looks out on an extremely pretty part of the lake and is an easy ferry ride to many of the little towns along it, though a car also helps to widen the sightseeing options. For instance, it is an easy and lovely day trip to Switzerland (in clear weather), St. Mortiz in particular. While in Bellagio, be sure to check out the art work of Mariangela Fumagalli. Her paintings are very special, and so are she and her husband, Alessandro.
Loved the Grand Hotel Tremezzo
Our extended clan just returned from a week at the Grand Hotel. We shared 3 villa rooms with our 2 kids and their grandparents. The service was beyond compare. When I inquired about Italian language lessons in the area, the front desk made all of the arrangements. When we decided to have an impromptu birthday party in the wine bar, the sommelier (Vallerio) had the chef prepare a custom cake while we waited. As we rushed out the door for our trip to the Milan airport at 5:30 a.m., the man at the front desk stopped us with fresh coffee (desperately needed coffee). Our rooms in the villa were wonderful. Our only regret is that our stay ended just a day before the opening of the new floating pool. It looked spectacular
