Following other comments on this website, yes you do get what you pay for. Therefore if you want a quiet relaxing holiday where you can also sleep at night (e.g. if you have young children who want to be in bed before 11pm), an apartment with a seaview located away from the main noisey stage is recommended! This also ensures you get a lovely view from your balcony. We only tried the breakfasts and the buffet selection while extensive, would have been better if one or two items were changed.
Yes the apartments are basic, but for 2 adults and one small child staying for one week I guess they are ok. Unfortunately they are definitely not a true 4 star hotel (and I work in the industry so I know!) and considering how much we paid for a much larger apartment in a hotel with 3 pools in Tunisia last year, I can't really say we received vaule for money. Although we booked via On the Beach holidays and it was considerably less than booking direct with Airtours or Thomsons as the time we booked.
The location is not great and there is definitely no beach as advertised, but the bus service located just outside is cheap, fast (to Coral Bay or Paphos) and the buses are air conditioned and comfortable. The Crazy Spoon across the road from the main hotel entrance, is great for lunch or dinner - cheap food and fabulous friendly service from Nick.
The only real problem we had with this hotel was on the last day. We were advised to book a taxi from reception to Paphos Airport. On the inbound journey we were advised from the tourist board (in the airport) that you should only travel in taxi's with meters. We were therefore confused when the taxi that we had booked through the Pafian Sun attempted to charge us 40 euros for a trip that was clearly showing 19 euros on the meter. On the taxi doors they all clearly display a customer charter which states each km should be charged at 0.59 euros, the journey from the Pafian Sun is around 35kms - so a total cost of around 20 euros would be correct. When we queried the excessive 40 euros charge, we were told that this was a 'deal' that the taxi company had with all bookings made via the Pafian Sun. The hotel is therefore keeping the additional money as commission for bookings and we were also threatened by the taxi driver that if we did not pay this, his boss would come to the airport to sort us out! Luckily I spoke to a security guard at the airport who agreed we should only pay the 19 euros and this is what we did, funnily enough the driver then left us alone. MAKE SURE YOU DO NOT BOOK AIRPORT TRANSFERS THROUGH THE HOTEL!

this holiday was taken at short...

May 2008, Mr J Plant

this holiday was taken at short notice from a cheap deal in the paper. it was also our first time all inclusive and our first time without the children. my wife and i went with my wifes sister and her husband not knowing what to expect and fearing the worst. on arrival at the hotel we were allocated our rooms and given all the info we needed and the wristband. because we arrived in the middle of the night we were told there was a packed lunch waiting for us in the fridge consisting of 2 rather sad sandwiches a miniature banana and a piece of cake. once we got up in the morning things greatly improved with a fine selection of breakfast items followed by snacks then dinner then snacks then tea which every night was different. you could eat as much as you wanted and drink as much as you like[which some people did everyday and got louder by the hour]. the all inclusive drinks were served in plastic cups the reason for this is because you are sat outside near the pool so glass is not an option, sit inside though and you can have glasses. the entertainment wasn't bad but was more for the kids. there is a bus stop right outside the hotel on either side of the road with buses every 10 mins or so or if you dont want to wait you can get a taxi which pull up more often than the buses. all in all it was a great holiday with good food good drinks in excellent surroundings its just a shame that some people can't take the drink and make a nuisance of themselves other than that i would definitely go again and probably will do in september.

My husband and I hade a large 1 bed...

May 2008, Mrs P Barton

My husband and I hade a large 1 bed apartment between us. The lounge had a kitchen area complete with kettle, mugs, toaster, fridge and everything you would need for a self-catering holiday except that we were all-inclusive. It also had a hairdryer in the bedroom. All in all the apartment and grounds were exceptionally clean. Unfortunately there is no beach, only rocks and the pools, both inside and out were rather cold.
The food was very good. Excellent variety of choices for all meals and a different menu every day, i.e. English carvery (no yorkie puds though), Chinese, Italian, Greek and Cyprian.
The staff, especially the bar staff were very friendly.
Considering the English entertainment team had only been together for 5 weeks, they worked really hard to put on different shows and of course the proverbial bingol, but everytone there was British. There were a couple of outside entertainers which were a bit disappointing, but it would have been nice to have a proper Greek/Cypriot night.
The only downside is the plumbing in Cyprus - you can't put toilet paper down the loo and they don't usually have bidets (get the drift?!)
If you go, please take the opportunity to book for a day out on George's Funbus. We did and we are pensioners, but the whole day was absolutely hysterical. Do go: we wnt on our last day and it really made our holiday.

May 2008, Mrs A Wray

We loved the Paphian Sun; the food was the best AI food we have ever had....
I would say that the beer is served in small glasses, and I was a bit of a "bar-widow", however that said, the weather and surroundings more than made up for it.
The staff were so helpful, and always had a smile.... We were so pleased with the AI buffet food, we never ventured into the other restaurant. The entertainment seemed OK, but we met such great people in the hotel, we missed several nights’ entertainment.
We will definitely be back.
For days at the beach - Catch the bus on to Coral Bay, its right outside, and really cheap.... Or down into Paphos, the food and atmosphere are fab....

The Pafian Sun Holiday Village was...
9 / 10
Apr 2008, Miss A Knight

The Pafian Sun Holiday Village was fantastic. I traveled as a single parent with my 2 sons aged 12 and 13. The Pafian Sun is lovely and clean and the staff couldn't do enough to make sure that we enjoyed our holiday.
The complex itself is on a main road in the middle of nowhere, although there is a bus which goes into Paphos for about 1 euro 50, but it gets very crowded, and they cram people onto the bus big time. We got a taxi return to Pafian Sun for 12 euros.
We checked out the excursions at the welcome meeting, found out where they were and hired a car, and went under our own steam. They drive on the same side of the road as we do in the UK, and most of the road signs are familiar and written in English so hiring a car is a good option.
We went to the Bird and Animal Park, which was lovely, the kids loved the bird shows and had their photos taken with Parrots and a 25ft Python.
We did go on the organized trip to the Cypriot night, and I have to say it was disappointing, it cost 105 euros for 3 of us. The coach ride took and hour and a half, as we had to pick up other people from other hotels in Paphos, then we got taken to the middle of nowhere to a shack and got fed lumps of fatty belly pork, with salad (consisting of lettuce, cucumber and tomato), bread and tsatziki. Only Oranges for dessert!
The Zorba dancing entertainment was OK, but we were in and out after 2 hours before another hour and a half journey back to Pafian Sun, definitely not worth the 105 euros.
If you want to experience real Greek/Cypriot night, most local restaurants, in Paphos do Meze, which is probably what I wish we had done and will do in future.
Don't bother with Tombs of the Kings unless you've got the time and inclination to look at ruins in the middle of a very hot day, the history is interesting though, if that floats your boat! It only cost 1 euro to get in and they allowed the kids in for free, so no major loss!
We also took ourselves off to the Troodos mountains which were beautiful and well worth the visit, although the excursion via the rep is very expensive. We had a full tank of petrol and a map, bought from the Pafian Sun Village shop, and off we went. It took us about and hour and a half to get to the top, in Troodos and it was lovely, very beautiful, take your camera! There are a couple of cafes, restaurants and a children's play area at the top and some lovely little souvenir shops which don't rip you off and the people are very friendly as they are all over Cyprus. The Cypriot people love children so its a great place to go if you have kids, they re welcome all over the place, in restaurants and bars etc.
Closer to home 'The Crazy Spoon' over the road from the Pafian Sun was great if you wanted to escape the rather 'tacky' holiday camp entertainment. The drinks arn't expensive and they have TV's with all the sports games, and 10 snooker and pool tables which my kids loved, and where we spent most evenings after dinner.
The Food at the Pafian Sun was excellent, my eldest son is very fussy but he always managed to find something the eat. The menu was varied each day by having a different theme every night. The salads were lovely, especially for lunch. We quite often returned from our 'daily jaunts' out of regular meal times but there was always something to eat as if its not breakfast, lunch or dinner, its snack time in between so there is never a reason to go hungry or thirsty. If you do plan to be out for the day though, staff are always happy to organize a packed lunch, you just have to ask at reception the day before, which isn't unreasonable.
The staff, all over the complex were exteremly helpful, nothing was too much trouble. I requested extra pillows and they were in the room within half an hour.
The room itself was very basic but very clean. It was a studio apartment and even had a cooker, kettle, toaster and fridge which was really useful.
I would recommend this place for families and couples alike. Don't be afraid to venture out into Cyprus, its a lovely island and, although its a lovely place, there really is more to it than The Pafian Sun Holiday Village!

My boyfriend and I have just returned...
6 / 10
Apr 2008, Miss E Brock

My boyfriend and I have just returned from a week at the pafian sun holiday village. We had a fab holiday but this holiday village is basically 'Butlins' in Cyprus! families with kids would have enjoyed the entertainement but we found it irritating and very repetitive. Being all inclusive we found that all drinks come in plastic cups and were generally watered down, we found the staff unfriendly and unhelpful. The appartment was clean as was the hotel but we did not feel that this hotel was of 4 star quality. There were lots of ants running around our appartment. some of them were rather large!
The biggest thing for us was the location of the hotel. we felt that we were in the middle of nowhere and felt rather trapped as there is no where to go in the evenings. buses were frequent but did not run in the evenings in April so taxis to the harbour were expensive. it was a bit like being in a prison really.
However we had a wonderful holiday and pafos and cyprus were really great to visit. if we returned we would not choose this hotel again simply because the location and I don't think we would ever do all inclusive again as we like to explore different places and go out and about.

Transfers As you come off the flight...
7 / 10
Apr 2008, Mr V Westall

Transfers
As you come off the flight everything was well organised and you were straight in the bus with no waiting around. The transfer took about 45 minutes but went in a flash as you watch all the views from the bus windows
Checking in
We were second in the queue and were given an envelope with all of the info you could need. It took no more than 5 minutes to get sorted
Staff
Everyone made a lot of effort to make sure things were well done and I think a lot of uk hotels could learn a lot about customer service from these people
Entertainment
Great effort but very very cheesy. If you like X factor with people singing out of tune but putting lots of effort into it then you’ll have a good time otherwise you’re going to hate it
Food
Huge choice well prepared with a wide selection of salads and hot food. There was always something to choose from with themed nights such as BBQ Chinese Italian etc. The egg and chips brigade would struggle to find what they wanted so they need to stick to Benidorm if that’s what they like.
Accommodation
Large rooms, clean and tidy with twin beds and a pull out sofa bed. We pushed the 2 singles together and the next day the cleaning staff made it up as a double (result)
Facilities
Really good sized pool that was freezing cold (as was the so called heated pool) The games room was basic but had the usual stuff in it. On site shop had all you needed but was a touch expensive.
I did laugh at all the sad B******** who took their towels to breakfast every day so they could keep themselves a sun bed even though there was more than enough to go around
Location
Its a bit isolated and its not practical to walk anywhere as your out onto a very busy main road. Buses are regular but but very full. Taxi to Pathos was 12 Euro

We booked this holiday on the travel...
8 / 10
Apr 2008, Mr R Hughes

We booked this holiday on the travel agents recommendation when we failed to get our first choice for a weeks break after Easter.
It was with some worry then that we read some of the reviews after booking and went with a wait and see attitude.
Our worries proved unfounded.
The accommodation and facilities were good although we did not expect our room not to be made up on two days during the week due to staff holidays.
We found the food excellent and my wife who is a very plain eater always found something to satisfy. Very varied selection each night and nothing rationed.
The staff were always very pleasant and willing to help when required.
The entertainment was lacking but we were there just as the season was starting and therfore we have no experiance of the entertainers who arrived as our week finishe.
Pafian Village is a bit remote but the local bus service is frequent (10/15 mins)and cheap. We hired a car which we found invaluable and as cheap as paying for a couple of organised tours.
We have little experiance of this type of holiday as our first choice is cruising but we will certainly be happy to return to Pafian Village again

The Pafian Sun Holiday Village would...
8 / 10
Apr 2008, Mr D Crawford

The Pafian Sun Holiday Village would compare with a UK 3 star rating. The staff were very helpful and accomodating. The room was of a good size and was cleaned thoroughly on a daily basis but was somewhat dated in appearance.
The all inclusive food was good, not exceptional, with a wide choice of hot and cold foods and salads daily at all mealtimes with salads and hot snacks in between. The staff even went out and bought tobasco sauce when a guest requeted it!
I found hiring a car to be useful if only for the independence from the standard transfers. There is a bus stop outside with regular cheap transport into Paphos about 8 km and all sorts of bookable trips. Would I go again? Yes, particularly if I wanted a simple chill out around the pool holiday with unlimited food and drink.
The evening entertainment was generally okay but you may prefer to take a portable DVD player and plug it into the TV in your room on ocassions. For those who must watch all the sports fixtures there is a Sports Bar directly across the road from the complex.

Mar 2008, Mrs M Ramster

It was our 1st time at the Pafian Sun,we had read the reviews which were mixed.so we went with an open mind. When we arrived it was late ,we were shown to our room well i was disappointed with it as there was no pool/sea view which i booked. The next morning we had our welcome party with our rep she was really helpfull and spoke to the manager who moved us straight away to a superb room with a beautifull view over looking both the sea and pool.
The staff were all very friendly especially the reception staff who would always try too help if they could. The entertainment team were fantastic the best team we've had on any of our holidays, there was something for everyone. The Pantomine was brillant i've never laughed so much at Wesley playing Aladdins mum.
The food was lovely spoilt for choice plenty to eat the desserts were very tempting and lots of fresh fruit as well.
I would really recommend this hotel to anyone including families as it offers something for everyone. As we liked it so much we are going back in october 20008 for our wedding anniversary and iam counting the weeks down!
