Jul 2008, Mrs V Disappointed

We have literally just come of the plane from Pafian Sun Holiday Village and felt compelled to give our review. There is NO WAY that this is 4* accomodation! Anybody who thinks it is has no concept of the hotel rating system!
Lets start with the room. Very basic, no coathangers, lacking in basic utensils like use of a dish towel. The storage furniture and kitchen units were poor fitting and cheap. The bedsettee had broken slats under the mattress. The advertised satelite TV consisted of 4 channels, 2 of which were unwatchable due to poor reception, 1 was a German speaking channel and the other was the BBC world business news. Hardly going to keep the kids entertained while you get ready to go for dinner, is it? There was also no remote control for the TV and had you wanted to change to a channel lower than the one that was on, you either had to switch off and switch back on again or advance through the other 76 channels of white noise manually. In three weeks our floor was washed twice, the towels were so discoloured it was difficult to tell if they had been changed or not. Basic maintenance of the interior of the apartment was poor eg. missing sealant around the bath and tiles. Our air conditioning worked well (it was free to us as we booked through lastminute.com). However, this was also badly maintained as it was filthy and smelled when switched off.
Now the pool, which was far too small for the size of the complex. Don't be fooled by the photo's. The sunbeds are packed in like sardines and you have to be up at the crack of dawn to reserve one! (Unless you are Mr & Mrs Dolce and Gabanna Towels, you know who you are, who left their towels on the beds permanately). Due to the lovely hot weather the outdoor pool can only be described as crowded. The daytime "entertainment" was broadcast through huge speakers and the only way to escape it was to lie on the furthest away grass area (beside Mr & Mrs D & G). The constant loud noise gave the atmosphere of Butlins during the day and a northern working mens club circa 1970s by night!
What can you say about the restaurant? Repetative menu only with a different theme every night, dry tough overcooked meats and don't turn up within half an hour BEFORE the end of each service as the staff will already be clearing the food away and preparing for the next service. When we asked for a wine list we were brought a bottle of cheap local wine (which cost a not so cheap 14 euros) and were told this was it! When it was poured it was corked and although we are not wine experts this partucular vintage was 2001 and I wouldn't use it as antifreeze in my car! When we bought a bottle of wine from a supermarket (foolishly thinking we might have a bottle opener in our apartment) we were told there was only one bottle opener at the bar and we couldn't us it as it was broken. 4* service? In addition to this the restaurant never felt clean and a procession of ants was a common sight. Needless to say we stopped using our half board basis in favour of eating out in Paphos or Coral Bay.
The old addage, you get what you pay for is not true in this case as we were sold 4* accomodation, however if a noisy crowded complex with kids squirting you with water guns all day is your thing then this would be right up your street!

Jul 2008, Mrs N GREASLEY

JUST GOT BACK FROM THE PAFIAN SUN
well to start with there is no way its a 4* our appartment was very dated
and basic (but everything you need ! ) .
we arrived at half passed midnight the hotel had
put everyone a packed lunch in the fridge ,
as we were starving we thought that was great ,
oh no! it was a very stale ham and cheese sandwich ,
an old orange and a lump of what i think was cake !
the food for most of the time we were there was very good,
the drinks were very watered down you could sit and drink
all night and still be as sober as a judge !!!!
the pool was very nice but on the very first day we were there
it had to be closed as someone had done a poo in it !!! a child i hope !
if you didnt get up at 6 in the morning you would never get a sun bed !!!!
for couples as we were i just wouldnt bother !
but for familys its ok . very hot time of year !

I went away with my girlfriend in...
5 / 10
Jul 2008, Mr L C

I went away with my girlfriend in early July, we are both in our mid twenties and were looking for a nice relaxing break by the pool and maybe a bit of nightlife.
I will start by listing the negatives
The breakfast was poor with the coffee & tea being terrible, bacon was cheap processed stuff, bread was awful and the croisants were usually stale.
The pool was noisy and the only way you could escape it is to go on the grass near cliff edge of a beach.
The restaurant food is exactly the same as the food you get in the buffet restaurant. (dont waste your time)
The wine was terrible, it was also pretty difficult to get a drink at all in the evening.
In the evening it was hotel entertainment or nothing as the bar was right next to the main stage. Some of the entertainment was really good but most was either annoying or just plain awful (It needs an alternative disco and maybe a quiet bar aswell)
They opened an alternative bar for a couple of nights but you couldn't get AI drinks, a bit of a shame as it was at the far end of the pool and a lot quieter.
You had to get up at the crack of dawn to stake your claim on a bed, It was like being at a German only hotel lol.
The rep was about as much use as a concrete lifejacket.
Tv was terrible both in the room and the reception.
Every child was armed with a water gun
It was in the middle of nowhere
I could go on but you probably get the idea
Now for the positives
Room was clean and basic, not a 4star but still pretty decent
The food at lunch was good and the food in the evening was very good.
You get a choice of 3 beers keo, leon and carlsberg (highlight of my holiday)
The staff were very good but I would say they need a few more.
The entertainment staff were very good and did try but it was mainly for the kids.
The pool was very good
It is a good cheap family hotel
Bus stop just outside and the buses were very good during the day
All in all you get what you pay for with this hotel.
If you are a young family and you want butlins abroad then this is the place for you.
If you are a couple of any age I would say it isnt.
If they tried to cater for anything other than families then I do think we would have had a very different view on the place.
I will pay the extra £100 next time

We couldn't wait to get home, the...

Jul 2008, Ms S BROWN

We couldn't wait to get home, the food was awful, the steak or beef you couldn't get your knife through, never mind your teeth, the pork was fatty, the chicken was dry and don't even get me started on lamb, every thing was tasteless and none of the food was ever served hot enough. When you go away on holiday you always expect to gain a few pounds, maybe more if you go All-inclusive .. we got home and had lost weight. Peter, The Head Bar Man (who never smiled the whole two weeks we were there) must have been on a fiddle, because he WATERED down every drink except Ouzo, which he couldn't because just a drop of water in Ouzo turns it cloudy, he never gave a full measure of alcohol, the only time you got a drink in which you could taste alcohol was when Peter was not around or it was his day off. There was a different atmosphere behind the bar, the staff seemed more relaxed when he wasn't there and we were certainly better looked after. You were only allowed drinks to be served in a glass if you were sitting inside, which is fair enough, but the ruddy awful FLIMSY PLASTIC things they served your drinks in were terrible, surely with the money Peter was fiddling they could afford to buy some decent plastic ones. While we were sat at the bar on night one of Peters female staff (Natalia was her name) poured slops from the drip trays into a jug when Peter saw that she was about to tip it down the drain he took the jug from her and served it to customers. Three times we went into Paphos each time we had a meal and bought a bottle of Brandy for the room, some thing we've never had to do before on an All-inclusive holiday. The rooms were a good size for two people, the hotel not unattractive, the pool big enough, the staff other than Peter were all very nice...But the two main reasons you go on an All-inclusive holiday for were TOTALLY TOTALLY RUBBISH. My advice is STAY AWAY FROM PAFIAN PARK

Booked this holiday as a late deal...
8 / 10
Jul 2008, Mrs S L

Booked this holiday as a late deal for 4 (2 adults and 2 Kids,13 &15). We had read the reviews but thought we would wait and see and make up our own minds. The room itself was basic but clean, room was cleaned 5 days out of the 7 we were there. We were well situated, 2 seconds from the pool area but far enough away from the night time noise. We did have to pay for the air conditioning which was a must - around 60 euros for the week and around 25 Euros for the safe key. Didnt have much problems getting beds around the pool area, if you want to relax quietly get a bed in the grassed area beyond the pool. Food was very good, good variety available, always hot. Son did get a beetle in his potato but that could happen anywhere!! The all inclusive drinks were very weak but thats because you get loads of ice plonked in the glass, if you get a single measure of spirits as well as your drink it tastes ok. Did pay for cocktails on my last night and they were very good. The hotel staff were all pleasant and friendly and work very long hours. The entertainment team did a very good job morning till night, but the entertainment could have been better especially with a captive audience. Bingo available but thats not my thing. Give the Tommy Cooper tribute a miss it was dire! The kids thoroughly enjoyed themselves I thought they would be bored. Great place for a week of relaxation in the sun ,might be a bit much for a 2 week hol. Buses into Paphos are regular but very busy. Taxi fare 14 euros one way. Not as Chavvy as I thought it would be, thank goodness! Luckily we didnt have any problems apart from sunburn and would consider going back if a good late deal was available in the future.

Just got back this morning from...
6 / 10
Jul 2008, Miss N N

Just got back this morning from Pafian Sun. Went with my Fiance and it wasn't really suitable for us, the hotel is very much family orientated and there is no escaping the children and the noise. Although most schools haven't broken up for the summer holiday yet the hotel was full of kids and I as our holiday drew to and end the more children arrived.
The hotel has the nick name of ''Chavian Sun'' (as per the Rep!) and we did notice this more and more.
The hotel is basic and is out of the way from anything really, the food at the hotel is it's best asset, the bar situation is ridiculous and you can expect to queue for up to 20 minutes for a drink in the evening and the hotel will only open one bar for All Inclusive. There is another bar at the end of the pool which is open in the day but only rarely open in the evening and when it does open it is only to purchase drinks! You don't really expect that when you have paid for All Inclusive.
Unfortunately we had a bag stolen in the hotel's buffet restaurant. As you can imagine this caused a lot of inconvenience and cost with having to go to the police station and now having to make an insurance claim. We were very disappointed with the attitude of the Rep and the staff at the hotel. The bag contained our room key and safe key along with other things but the Rep wasn't in the slightest concerned about that. She advised us to wait and see if the bag was ''handed in as it might have been picked up by mistake'', not too sure how that really happens whilst eating at your own two seater table! We took her advise and the bag didn't turn up but when we then tried to find the Rep she was never there so we never saw her again for the rest of the holiday, that's how concerned she was. Not good.
We won't return to the Pafian Sun and would advise anyone not to book there if you want a quiet holiday, it is great for families and good value for money but be very aware of your surroundings and don't rely on the Rep to help you out.

Have just got back from Cyprus after...
4 / 10
Jul 2008, Miss K Weston

Have just got back from Cyprus after staying at the Pafian sun and I have to say i was totally disappointed with the accommodation we received whilst staying there. I have visited many 4* hotels and apartments and this was far and above the worst one I have had the misfortune to book. The food was ok and the staff were extremely friendly but the room was absolutely appalling. There were fag burns on the bed linen, the curtains were hanging off the wall, the 'Sofa bed' is nothing of the sort .. its a sofa and its unbelievably uncomfortable. There was mold all over the bathroom and on the ceiling of the bedroom, and the maid service was once every 2-3 days. When the towels were changed ... they were not clean. Another bug bear, which every guest we spoke to agreed with, is that you are led to believe that the air conditioning is free.. its not.. well it is.. if you dont book with Thomas Cook ! Guests who booked with Beach holidays and other providers were given totally free air conditioning. Also there is a note on the back of ever door which states the air con is free to all! I would advise anyone that wants a proper 4* holiday, with all the comforts and quality associated with a 4*, not to book this resort.

Jun 2008, Mr A J Jones

Needed a short break. Hotel not the best but certainly not the worst we've stayed in.Staff extremely nice, but felt sorry for the ONE night receptionist who had to deal with two coachloads of arrivals which meant numerous groups of people looking for their accomodation in the middle of the night! Disappointed with location of room ,Near main road, when hotel only half full, and having been charged for under occupancy-without any option.Maid service not available one day a week which for all inclusive rates didn't seem right.Food was of a good standard. BE WARNED that if you want a quite time ,avoid the Cypriot Bank Holidays !! The hotel was "invaded",you could walk from one side of the pool to the other on heads and not get your feet wet!!This was possibly the time when the staff seemed unable to cope and the restaurant area became a "battle ground"---children running riot and leaving the buffet food in chaos.Having said that, choose your time right and you will definitely enjoy the Pafian Sun.

I spent a lot of time checking...
9 / 10
Jun 2008, Mrs Nikki Wright

I spent a lot of time checking reviews for our honeymoon the first week in May 2008 and the best reviews in general for our requirements was the Pafian Sun Village. The transfer time from the airport was max 30minutes and the first impression of the hotel was okay but it looks a bit like a motel from the outside and is situated on the main road into Paphos. The reception was small but the reception staff very friendly and helpful. We arrived about 9.15pm and the receptionist suggested we leave our luggage with her and go and get some dinner as the restaurant was due to close at 9.30pm and check in afterwards. There was an extra charge for using the safe and air conditioning but this wasn't needed in May. There were no porters around and in fact I didn't see any during our stay so it was down to us to carry our cases to the room which was fine for us as our room was quite close by but maybe not for those in rooms further away. We had booked a 1 bed apartment with no sea or pool view (as they were more expensive). Ou apartment was situated above the shop. The bedroom looked out onto the staircase going to the rooms above us but the lounge area looked out over the pool which was a bonus. The room was quite basic with teak melamine style furniture but it was large and clean and the bathroom was in good order and had a decent shower. One downside was the satellite TV as there really was only 1or 2 English channels CNN and World News, occasionally you would catch an English film but we were experts on current affairs by the time ww went home! There were always plenty of sun beds and the pool was clean. We found the male bar staff in the evening to be very friendly but a couple of girls who worked in the main bar during the day were a bit surly, I don't think they ever smiled. Some alcoholic and non-alcoholic cocktails were included in the All Inclusive package as was Carlsberg draft beer which pleased my husband. There was never a problem getting a table in the main restaurant for lunch or dinner (we rarely made it to breakfast) and the staff were very very friendly and the drinks service was excellent. We both agreed that the food was the best we have ever had at any All Inclusive hotel and we've been to a lot. They had a different themed night each night; Italian, Chinese, Greek, etc but always British Food and a separate childrens buffet as well. There was a lovely salad selection at lunchtime and soups as well as icecream during lunch and dinner and lovely cakes etc. We travelled on the bus into Paphos once which stops right outside and costs about £1 sterling each way. There is a Sports Bar opposite with large screens showing football etc. The evening entertainment was put on by the Thomas Cook Reps and was always very good and made a change from the entertainment at previous hotels tailored towards Germans and Italians. 95% of the guests were British, mainly couples. Overall we had an excellent week at the Pafian Sun and would thoroughly recommend it.

Went to Cyprus earlier in the month...

Jun 2008, Mr G Slee-Thomas

Went to Cyprus earlier in the month to get married and as there was 13 of us including three children under 2 1/2 we decided to go for a family friendly hotel and we were not dissapointed.
The childrens entertainment here is great, run by british staff my eldest who is 6 loved going to the daily (sometimes twice daily) kids club and my daughter who is 2 absolutely loved the pool which is very spacous.
The apartments themselves are very basic but very clean and you wont get too many ant in doors as long as you dont drop food around the place!!
Most of the bar/restaurant staff are Hungarian and very friendly and polite and if you drop a few coins (literally cents) in the tip box they will make sure you get large drinks all night rather than the usual one shot and also the occasional drink after hours!!
The food is varied although at times basic but there is always something there that you will like. Great Salads and desserts too.
The drinks let it down a bit as the beer is a but ropey and the shorts are like poor mans versions of the originals we love but they do the job at the end of the day.
Great place opposite (The Crazy Spoon) to watch footy and have a real drink!!!
A short bus ride in either direction will get you up and down the coast to the busier towns and beaches and the area as a whole is lovely.
I will definately go back to cyprus but I was glad to leave on Sunday the 15th June as the day before 200 cypriuts arrived to celebrate their extended bank holiday and they literally took over the hotel and another few days of that lot would have started to get to me!!!! Make sure you enquire about the bank holiday before booking in June!!!

We have just come back from a great...

Jun 2008, Mrs K Sims

We have just come back from a great holiday at the Pafian Sun and we could not fault it, we were 2 adults and 2 children aged 6 and 4. We don't normally book all inclusive but as it was a good deal we decided to try it and we are glad we did. The one bedroom apartment we had was clean and spacious and we were in block 4 and had a great pool view, sea view and also a good view of the entertainment from our balcony, we don't normally sit and watch this but it was good from the balcony and it was very varied and the children enjoyed it. We are all fussy eaters and not one day we went hungry the food choice was brilliant always loads of choice and always hot and the staff were always checking the amount of food left then refilling, never once did i see anything warmed up and served at another meal every meal time there was new choices and each night was themed and the kids had a buffet of their own. The drink you could have was also good but you can't take them to your room (we did though and nobody said anythng) The childrens kids club was good i don't normally leave my children with people i don't know but the team was great, brittish and kept the children in a class which you signed them in and out and the room was very secure my oldest child loved it but the little one did not go as she was too young and probably wouldn't have gone anyway. Due to the loocation i would recommend you hire a car or you would have to go on the bus (situated outside) as it is located between Paphos and Coral Bay with about a 15 minute drive either way. Reading some other reviews on here about the 4* i would just like to add we visited a family member staying in Paphos 2* and i would definately say without hesitation the Pafian deserves its 4* could not fault it in anyway at all and would definately go back.
