I have just returned from a week with...
9 / 10
Sep 2008, Mr R Aisthorpe

I have just returned from a week with my girlfriend atthe Pafian Sun Holiday Village and all i can say is it's FANTASTIC.
We stayed all inclusive for 7 nights and totally enjoyed eveything about it. The pool is its biggest asset with the view of the sea and it was a pleasure taking advantage of the all inclusive bar's with a wide range of drinks to suit everybody. The only thing that lets the pool area down are the sun loungers being a bit uncomfortable.
The food served at the buffet style counters was excellent with a wide range of different foods every night catering for all. The staff within the eating area are very friendly and professional.
The room we stayed in was very nice with a good sized lounge/sleeping and kitchen area in one with a seperate large bathroom with shower. The aircon came in very handy and was included in the all inclusive package.
Another fantastic asset to the Pafian are the Thomson holiday reps who never seemed to run out of energy or ideas. They started the evening with some entertainment for the children with a kids disco were adults were encouraged to take part up on the stage. They then played bingo which was great fun(never thought i'd be playing) and enjoyed especially with the chance to win some euro's. They then moved onto the main entertainment which they had spent all day rehearsing and put on a good show.
The only person who let the hotel down was one of the night porters who we asked for help after discovering i had lost my wallet. His attitude was terrible and didn't seem interested in even trying to provide us with a number for the local cab service with which my wallet may have been with and just threw the yellow pages at me.
All in all in was a great holiday and i along with my girlfriend are already planning to return next year.

I have just arrived back from a week...
7 / 10
Sep 2008, Miss C Mills

I have just arrived back from a week spent at the pafian with my boyfriend.
I really cant fault the nice rooms, swimming pool area or staff. everything was very clean and pleasent. I did not really enjoy the food, there was plently of choice, however to be honest i found it all abit samey.
we spent alot of time on the pool side, with the drinks flowing, sun and lovely clean pool we had a great time, but the hotel is in the sticks a little bit and for anyone looking for a lot to do in the evening will need to get a bus somewhere because even though the entertainment staff are really nice and good at the job its a bit like butlins, just with nice weather!! though the bus to paphos is only 10 min and seems to run well.
we did not have to pay for air con, because of the unseasonly hot temps, however i think i would have felt a bit cheated if i had because ours did not really work well, and was so noisy i had to turn it off during the night, and when its so hot its not nice!
however i really enjoyed the holiday, and would recommend the hotel. i have put the bad points because thats what sticks in the mind. i would say its more for familys, but we had a great time none the less.

We've just returned from a holiday at...
8 / 10
Sep 2008, Mr M Payne

We've just returned from a holiday at the Pafian Sun and would recommend this to anyone.
We booked independently, although there was a family gathering for a wedding, (rest of family booked through Thomas Cook).
A taxi to / from the airport will cost around 40 - 45 Euro's. I have no idea why there is this variation, but there is. Must be a Greek thing ;o)

On arrival the reception staff were fantastic, checking in was simplicity itself and any questions we had were answered quickly and in depth.
We had a Studio with Sea View and what a view it was, absolutely stunning looking out over the bay. We were at the extreme end of the complex, (Block H) which was a blessing in disguise as we couldn't hear the, ahem, 'entertainment team' from there.
The studio room was basic, with, as has been previously stated, mfi style furniture. However, it was solid and functional which is just what you want. Somewhere you can unpack your clothes. We didn't have air con included in our booking (Sunshine.co.uk), but opted to pay for that and the in room safe. It only cost us around 30 Euro's and was money well spent. Your room key comes attached to a large white plastic 'key card' which activates the electricity. We removed the key and left the 'key card' in the slot permanently so that the air con and fridge would be on. We left the air con on permanently and it was a lovely respite from the 30'+ heat when getting changed.
The rooms are serviced 5 days out of 7 (Fridays and Sundays not done), and I must say they did a lovely job. Clean towels, bed made up, cups / glases and ashtrays washed up, and anything we left lying around folded and tidied up. The maids on our side were always friendly, greeting you with a smile and a good morning when ever we saw them. Some of the family who were staying in apartments close to the childrens pool said their maids could be a bit on the blunt and surly side.
Both the main and the childrens pools are fantastic. Clean, not overly chlorinated and a joy to use. It is very easy to spend too much time in them lounging on air beds and larking about, forgetting to keep the sun lotion topped up and not taking on enough water. Several of our party suffered due to this, however, once plenty of water is taken on board, any groggyness soon passes. One cautionary note, the area around the pool can be a little slippery and stone flagging does get very hot through the height of the day. Footwear is an absolute must.
Some of the restaurant staff were not exactly the most friendly types. There were 14 of us staying there and we liked to dine outside together. However, some, not all, would not allow this, saying because we were a large group, we must dine inside. Regardless of the fact that the previous evening efforts were made, (and appreciated), to accomodate us outside. The food was of a generally satisfactory quality. We never struggled to find something to eat, some dishes were excellent, some were ok but in general fairly good.
The bar staff were generally very good, they soon get to know you and what you drink, making the time spent in the queue shorter. During the evening you do have to queue for the bar, but it never took long and the staff were always pleasant no matter how busy they were.
The sunloungers around the pool are very popular and it is advisable to 'towel' them early morning, at around breakfast time. If towels are left on at night, they are removed.
The on-site shop is handy, if a little more expensive than the supermarket just down the road, (out of the main entrance, turn right and a 2 minute amble). 6 x 1.5 litre bottles of water are 3 euro's at the supermarket, I don't know how much they were in the shop as we were advised by neighbours on the first night not to buy there as they were expensive.
If you want to go out during the day, there is a bus stop directly opposite the entrance for buses to Paphos, (#15 for the Harbour area, #10 for the Market). Just to the left of the entrance is a bus stop to Coral Bay. Buses have a flat fare of 1.50, no matter how far you go. They do get busy mid morning / lunch time so we found it best to go out after breakfast. There is a timetable but it doesn't mean much. Buses are very regular and you never have to wait more than 15 minutes. The Market is probably the best place to go for any 'Duty Free's' you may wish to bring back. There are also lots of gift shops and local produce shops.
The harbour has good night life as well as offering fishing trips and cruises. Fishing trips can be had for around 15 Euro's per head and are worth doing, but you'll need a hat with a wide brim to protect your head and neck from the sun. We did a sunset cruise with Paphos Sea Cruises that was worth the trip to Paphos on it's own. Worth looking into and booking online as you get a discount.
The only down side to the Pafian Sun Holiday Village is the entertainment team. They were very poor indeed. They obviously never had to sing as part of the interview process as some of them were truely awful. The day time entertainment is very repetative, consisting of aqua aerobics and a quiz. Night time, they did try, bless, but they really shouldn't try singing.
I would say the Pafian Sun is suitable for people of all ages, families or small groups of friends.
We thoroughly enjoyed our time there and would definately book there again.

we were really worried about this...
9 / 10
Sep 2008, hells bells

we were really worried about this holiday after reading so many negative reviews prior to departure, however, i think people have been over critical. rooms were a good size and clean, for the amount of time you spend in there i cannot see what the problem is. reception staff were very friendly and booked us in quickly. the meals were fantastic and the drink wasn't bad either (although it was clearly diluted down) the pool was crowded but with temperatures in the high 40's what do people expect. the hotel really needs to invest in more sunbeds as we needed to be up at 7am to get one!! the entertainers try really hard and the kids love them, but the majority of adults we met shared our view that they struggled to entertain the adults. we acknowledged that its a family complex and the kids need to come first. we have stayed in cyprus many times and this was by no means our best holiday, however, it was certainly the best value for money.

On reading the different and wide...
10 / 10
Sep 2008, Mr K Hoodless

On reading the different and wide reviews of this hotel we have to say we had a great time at this hotel. Food was up to a great standard, entertainment was ok, mostly aimed at the kids who were kept entertained both day and night. But to be honest who wants to stay at your hotel when theres a big wide world out there to explore and a wide variety of bars and other means of entertainment elswhere. On arrival we had to pick up our air con as the daft wee lassie at TC didnt have a clue if we had any or not and caused a little bit of a raucus at our local branch. Message for Thomas Cook Managment Give more training to your sales reps ! Quite hard to find sunloungers but nothing a short walk round the pool didnt solve. Staff at the hotel were very helpful in all respects. Rooms where immaculate on arrival and were kept that way all week. Cleaning staff are a credit to this hotel. Finally if you do choose the Pafian Sun as your hotel destination go with an open mind as myself and partner were pleseantly surprised.

booked a first chioce holiday...

booked a first chioce holiday villiage holiday, all inclusive, new build superior room. Got basic room, dirty bed covers, live wiring hanging from broken socket next to bed. hole punched in bedroom door. manky bathroom with water stains all over ceiling. hand held shower over bath which you had to run around under to get wet. was not near the new part where all the day time entertainment was and the poolside bar that had hot food ie chips, hotdogs etc. we were in another hotel which had none of the facilities we had paid for. complained several times had no joy. sent letter upon return to england to which they said not their problem I should have stated what room I wanted before I went!!!!!!!!!!!!!! No apologies at all just that it was my personal choice that I booked it and it wasn't up to scatch. Although I have to say we were lucky compared to some whos children turned green in the pool. Whose ceiling fell down in their room. and air conditioning units that either didn't work or leaked pools of water every where. but for £4000 you would expect it to at least be decent..........

Great for families with young...

Sep 2008, Mrs S Wardman

Great for families with young children, not too good for older people.
Only one pool and children take over with their balls and water pistols.
Children only allowed ice cream for 2 set hours a day, which they didn't like much.
Although we were all inclusive we had to pay for bottles of water, which was a shock, and also beware!, Air Conditioning is not included and you have to pay for it when you get there! A bit of a shock especially in such a hot country.
Food good though and accommodation very clean and good sized rooms.

Just got back from 1 week “all...
9 / 10
Sep 2008, Mr B Johnston

Just got back from 1 week “all inclusive” at Pafian. After reading some of the reviews I was a little apprehensive. Upon arrival at 3am, we booked in at the reception and were directed to our apartment. A lift took us down onto the lower area and then we walked out and down 3 steps leading to the pool and footpath to our apartments. My fears about the reviews seemed to be true, the place was in total darkness and there was no lights near to the 3 steps, which we were not warned about.. A very large pool could be seen in the darkness. Although there were no signs of any staff members to assist. We followed the path on the map given at the reception and found our apartment. Due to the time that we had arrived we all just wanted to get to bed and sleep.
After a few hours sleep, we awoke and made our way towards the reception for the introduction from Thomas Cook Rep ( Zoe). To my excitement, we past the large out door pool. It was beautiful; the pictures on the site do not do it justice. There seemed a real excitement around the very large bathing area, plenty of sun beds and a lovely backdrop with a view to the sea. MY FEARS DISAPPEARED, my daughter could not wait to get breakfast and then jump in the pool. Inside the restaurant the selection of food was better than some of the English hotels I have stopped in. The staff were very friendly and helpful.
We jumped into the pool and could not believe how warm it was. The pool is brilliant for all ages, my daughter who is 7, loved the shallow end, but the good thing about the pool was that the deepest part was only 1.28m. There was a small childs pool less than 5 foot away from the big pool. The pool get warmer as the day goes on. Didn’t bother with the indoor pool, visited it and it was clean and would be great in winter, but not when is 40 degrees outside.
I would recommend this hotel as “ GREAT FOR FAMILIES”. My daughter made new friends and spent nearly all their time in the pool, we didn’t bother with the kids club, but speaking with other parents who put their kids into the club, they enjoyed it. My daughter was more interested in playing with her new friends in the pool.
The entertainers from Thomas Cook (Rich, John, Jen and Helen) were brilliant, they work very hard and are family orientated, what you would expect from a family friendly resort. They made the evening enjoyable for all the family.
Overall the food was outstanding great choice for grown ups and a small section made especially for kids, ranging from, chicken nuggets, pizza, pasta and chips. The menus changed each day for lunch and evening meals. Eat as much as you want and drink all you want.
Paphos is just a short bus ride away ( 10 minutes) they run every 10 mins. Coral Bay has a beautiful beach 10 minutes away with a bus also every 10 mins. The cost of the buses is 1.20 euro each way, all buses have air conditioning
Rooms are adequate for the amount of time spent in them, there is a view of the sea on some of the rooms, with a very small area to sunbath at, however this area is not for swimming, go to Coral Bay for bathing and swimming in the sea. The sunset is beautiful.
Loads of excursions to book, if you’re interested in that sort of thing,
All in all a great holiday, well done to all the reps and staff at the hotel for making this an enjoyable family holiday

Pool-Two pools for a hotel isnt...
7 / 10
Aug 2008, Miss Y Carr

Pool-Two pools for a hotel isnt enough! Especially when the outdoor is FULL! There is way too much Chlorine in the indoor so pack your goggles or wear sun glasses after getting out- as it burnt my eyes afer being in the pool. There is a jacuzzi a steem room a sauna and a gym some of these are free. (Jacuzzi, Gym) Exept me and my sister went in the indoor one and took inflatable and got told off by the gym instructer. Yet the day after about 4 rubber dingies were in the same pool and the same gym instructer walked past and didnt say a word.
Rooms-Rooms are ok but one dubble bed one sofa bed in the main bedroom. And one sofa and one bed on weels wich wasnt very comfetable. Air con was 100 euro. Wich wasnt very good in the main room anyway. Keep your curtains closed and the room dark from sunlight and it should stay cold.
Food-Well all I can say is on different nights it is better then others chineese night is definatley one of the best. Get there when the canteen is open first thing and its quite emty the staff are less grouchy as apose to the end of the night where they are just fed up and want to go home.
Facilities-First of all SUNBEDS. This is really bad in the summer you need to wake up at 6am to actually get a decent sunbed. Other then that there is not really any other problems.
Cleaning-Cleaning isnt very good as linen and towels are only changed twice a week.
Entertainment-Most of the entertainment isnt very good as it starts at 10pm although its worth staying up for the hypnotist.
Over alll-***
Average hotel.
Have a nice time.
