Jun 2006, Miss R Molloy

We had a fantastic holiday at the Pafian Sun, I was concerned after reading poor reviews but some people just seem to love to complain!
Our apartment was fantastic, very big and spacious, with fridge, cooking rings, kettle, full set of crockery etc. we were very surprised to have all this. The room was clean and sheets/towels changed regularly. We had a lovely view from our balcony of the pool and the sea. It was very quiet, we went to bed early one evening shut the doors and windows and did not find it noisy at all.
The only bad thing was the Air Conditioning which cost us £34CYP which we thought was a rip off and were a bit annoyed about, it was so humid the night we arrived we had to get it straight away, and we were very glad we did as there was not as much as a cloud in the sky the whole week we were there. It needs to be made clear beforehand that there is a charge for this.
The pool area was really good and clean, the drinks were great, we did get fed up of the plastic cups though! I didn't like the wine so drank spirits and mixers which were absolutely fine, the measures varied as they just tip it out of the bottle, but were generally very generous not stingy! All the fizzy drinks are fine and they have Pepsi and such like. Beer was fine too.
Breakfast was fine, good variety of hot and cold food, you can sit outside at meal times too which we enjoyed being able to do, in the morning before it was too hot. Lunch was fine really nice salad area. Hot food too, which was ok, some was obviously left over’s made into something else, but I think this is often the case. Our first dinner a carvery wasn't very good, all just a bit bland, but it got better throughout the week, and although the food quality wasn't great there was certainly nothing wrong with it. There were also some delicious desserts and lots of fruit and ice cream.
The entertainment team worked really hard and there was something for all really. Fun games in the pool like water polo.
The location of the hotel was great, it is 15mins away from the many, many restaurants and bars and harbour of Paphos, we went there many evenings it is cheap and easy to get to the bus ran till 11.30pm I believe and 10.30pm on Sundays even (when the England game was on!) Coral bay is lovely, very shallow and no waves at all, again 80cents on the bus and 10 mins from the hotel. Sun beds and umbrellas were not expensive either. We also found a tiny sandy bay 5min walk from back of hotel which was very secluded.
All the people were very friendly. We went to the market one day which was disappointing and the traders follow you round watching you like hawks which was very off putting!
The taxi drivers are insane!
All in all a brilliant holiday and amazing weather!

After reading some of the comments...

Jun 2006, Mr G Wallace

After reading some of the comments before departing I was a bit skeptical of what to expect, but I needn't have worried.
Thomas Cook did an excellent job from the minute we arrived at Glasgow Airport for departure until we landed back after our holiday, I cannot fault anything they did and have made up my mind that I will use them from now on.
The resort itself in my opinion was spotlessly clean, the apartment was cleaned every day apart from the Monday which was a local holiday. The air con was a rip off, but because our apartment was so hot on the first night we had to take it for the remainder of the week which cost us 5.20 Cypriot pounds per day.
Although expensive I could not have slept without it. The entertainment team were the best I have came across, Mark and Teresa especially did a brilliant job. They worked tirelessly from morning until night to ensure that for anyone who could be bothered joining in, had a great time. For anyone with kids, Sue who runs the kids world clubs is fantastic, my wee one was almost in tears when she had to say goodbye on our last day, she was so friendly. Was really surprised at the cash prizes on offer for the bingo. The winning amount for the full house ranged from 150 cyp £ to 220 Cyp £, which is approx £180 - £250, so it is worth a flutter.
The bar staff and service were brilliant, some reports on these boards have mentioned that either the drinks were watered down or measures were really small. We quickly discovered that if you put a contribution into the "tip jar" the staff make sure your measures are more than adequate.
The only two negative point I have are firstly, the food was very bland and herby, but this may be because I prefer my food on the spicy side, but they do need to look seriously at putting on more selection for the kids, every meal consisted of a choice of either chicken nuggets or bolognaise with pasts and that was it, my wee one had to make do with chips after day one. The other negative point was that I felt the complex was very remote, and although there is a regular bus service into Paphos, I would have preferred if there had been more shops, bars etc closer by.
Overall my family and I had a great holiday and I would not hesitate in recommending this resort to any one who like me works on the premise "if the kids are happy and content then so am I".

Jun 2006, Mrs J Anderson

Although we have rated this 7/10, it is nothing to do with the apartments or staff. I have never stayed in such well kept apartments, everything you would need if you where self catering as well. The cleaning staff where superb. The hotel staff where excellent. Bar staff and restaurant staff excellent.
Where it falls down is the meals where very poor. We had a Greek night and an Italian night which were very poor, and the normal food also. Hot meats were not cooked properly, new potatoes still hard, and so on. The soup although was different title every night was the same colour. Its saving grace were the sweets, very, very nice. As for all inclusive drinks, the shorts were very short.
The entertainment was all for anybody who liked the pool during the day, every day fun exercises in the pool, pool volley ball, water polo. A quiz trivia most days. And at night the entertainment was I feel good for children but poor for the adults, the week we stayed there was a show by the reps and 1 guest appearance of a singer. So this was very disappointing.
Overall as I say we could not fault staff and apartments.

Excellent! The hotel was the best...

Jun 2006, Miss L Meadows

Excellent!
The hotel was the best I’ve been too and the entertainment was fantastic. Quizzes around the pool in the day - loads of water sports and lots more.
The 4 entertainers, Mark, Ben, Hayley and Teresa were great, the shows they put on in the evening were very funny and entertaining. I have never wanted to watch hotel entertainment before but we stayed at the hotel every night.
The food was excellent - so much choice lots of seafood for the adventurous and chips, pasta, salad etc for the more fussy. There was always a lot of choice with different nights such as carvery, bbq, Chinese, Greek. I cannot believe that anyone could not find something they liked to eat here.
Drinks were available all day and they offered a wide range and some were English such as Pepsi, 7UP, Carlsberg. Loads of spirits and cocktails and their idea of a shot is 1/4 pint!
The staff all spoke good English and were very helpful. Plenty of sun loungers, not once did we struggle to find somewhere to lay around the pool.
We did not leave the hotel and did not need to everything you could possibly need was there. I made a 11 minute call to UK from room which only cost 88p and other than that all i spent was a paper each day and my bingo tickets.
The air conditioning was extra but we did not take it and I do not feel it affected us, we just had the windows open when we were hot.
I do not have children but they seemed very well catered for with a kids club and disco with games each night.
I think the entertainment really made this holiday perfect as you never got bored which is something that some all inclusives fail on, they made sure everyone was included in the fun and games and did awards for the sports and stuff.
I could not fault the hotel at all and am trying to re-book for a week in September.
I would recommend this holiday to anyone.
Many Thanks.

The facilities where clean and in...
8 / 10
Jun 2006, Mr N Birch

The facilities where clean and in good condition, however when it got busy facilities were strained especially sun beds and bar. Staff were very courteous and friendly, giving a high standard of service, 24 hours; staff worked very hard to please.
Food was good, I would recommend eating early or late to get a seat. Hot snacks in day-time were disappointing, but the bar service was first class. The entertainment team were out of this world, the room let it down - get in early to get seat. Overall a very enjoyable holiday, with excellent staff, some facilities strained when busy.
I would recommend a car for the holiday, to see sights and save money. Warning! Double check hire care arrangements, i.e. petrol, make sure the agent allows you to inspect the car and keep receipt for filling tank. As Eurocar hire never returned our deposit despite filling the tank fully.

Very geared towards families, bar...
8 / 10
Jun 2006, Mrs Jan McWhinney

Very geared towards families, bar staff, restaurant staff and entertainment staff all gave good service.
Evening disco from 8pm for the children was enjoyed by adults and children alike. Food was OK, plenty to choose from, but a little repetitive after two weeks. Snacks were leftovers from dinner. Rooms were spacious and clean.
Air conditioning was a rip off at £2.60 (Cypriot pounds) per unit per day, so for our two bed apartment with three units this worked out very expensive. There was a notice on the back of the door stating that air con should have been included in the cost of the holiday but it wasn't!
Overall the Pafian Sun offers good value for money for a family holiday, probably most suited to families with children 5 - 12 years as there is nothing for the under 5's to do.

Jun 2006, Miss L Yates

If anyone says that this resort is rubbish then they really are hard to please.
The bar staff were extremely friendly and polite and were interested in how you were. They were well presented and did a very good job.
The entertainers were not at all like Butlins as someone said, but friendly, and enjoyable, especially Mark! They all showed enthusiasm and a want for everyone to join in the fun. The entertainment is on from 8 till after 11 so plenty on.
The resort is aimed at families and there is a family atmosphere, with young babies through to older pensioners all enjoying themselves, so you should read up on the hotel before you actually book your holiday, as some have complained on the family atmosphere.
The choice of food was very impressive, there were salads, meat, pasta and chips for the less adventurous.
Overall we had a great time, and the weather was lovely. I don’t mean to rant but people really should appreciate the value for money, and compared to other all inclusive holidays this comes very near to the top.

Whether you like the Pafian Sun will...
4 / 10
May 2006, Mr B Wood

Whether you like the Pafian Sun will depend, I think, on the type of holiday that suits you. It is not a four star hotel. It is the equivalent of a British chalet/caravan park. If you like holiday parks you will probably love it and vice versa particularly when it is school hols and there are lots of kids. As I went "allocate on arrival" I was prepared to take what I got unless it obviously did not meet the agreed standard i.e. 4 star and all inclusive.
The things I did not like about the Pafian Sun was the all inclusive system. While I was there, there was only one bar open and if you wanted to sunbathe outside your apartment and nip along for the odd drink it could be a long walk. Also, you are not really supposed to take drinks back to the apartment. The quality of the drink was poor. All the wine came out of paper cartons and was slightly sparkling. I lost count of the number of carafes of red wine with two nearly full glasses left on tables. The only passable local liqueur I found was the coconut so if you drink Malibu you may be ok. The "all the snacks you can eat" turned out to be leftovers from mealtime. If you wanted anything preparing fresh you had to pay for it.
The buffet restaurant was clean and efficient except that there only ever seemed to be one coffee machine working which caused queues at breakfast. It was not haute cuisine but you would have to be very picky or a vegan to starve. However, the quality of the food seemed to deteriorate during the week. My wife and I walked out of our free night at the a la carte restaurant as the choice was so limited.
The hotel is out of the way with no beach. There is the Crazy Spoon over the road which is useful if you want a reasonable exchange rate, cheaper rates for car hire and excursions, and a reasonably sized supermarket. You can get into Paphos or Coral Bay by bus if you wish for 80 cents (£1) a trip. I hired a car for a day but ended up paying a lot of money as only the international companies would do it and then at a premium. In hindsight I would have been better served to have a three day hire from a local company even if it was only for pottering about.
If you get any extras do not pay for them in advance. We paid for the air conditioning units and then decided that we did not need them. We were told that they did not give cash refunds as it would make the system too open to abuse by the staff! We eventually got a refund on the last day following discussions between the rep and the General Manager. Also, I am 99.99% certain that I had money taken out of my trouser pocket when I changed trousers but did not transfer the cash and was out in Paphos.
There is an entertainment program run by four enthusiastic, friendly and talented young people but it is very Butlinesque and quite crude at times. For the record I did not see any cats and so perhaps they have had a purge. I certainly would not go back to this destination.

We have just got back from the Pafian...

May 2006, Mr Bob Pennell

We have just got back from the Pafian Sun after a very "Chilled" week. Mmmmm!
We had an excellent time, the weather was fabulous, wall to wall sun everyday. The Apartments were clean and spacious.
We were part of the usual "night flight people" and were absolutely amazed to find a welcome and inviting cup of tea and nibbles at 2.00am on a Monday morning (WELL DONE JANOS and the management) Never ever seen that before!
The food was very tasty, loads to choose from, salads, meat, fruit, vegetables, cakes and desserts, all was fresh and hot. .
Drinks are good but they are ALL served in plastic cups everywhere except in the restaurant area. (Bit of a shame). It would have been nice to have glasses in the entertainments room. The bar staff are very friendly.(Well done Rebbeca, Janos and Tamas and all supporting staff) Mustn't forget the restaurant staff, thanks to all! The entertainment staff worked very hard and their top of the charts set was very good. It was great value for money.
The location is slightly isolated but we liked the "Village" effect of the complex.
There is a bus stop across the road which will take you to Paphos for Cy£0.80 cents each way or Coral Bay should you choose.
Taxis charge from Cy£4 - £6.
Would definitely go back again.

May 2006, Miss D Simpkin

We have just got back from the Pafian Sun (6 adults and one child - 2 years)
We had an excellent time, the weather was fab, it was sunny and hot everyday. The Apartments were clean and spacious.
The food was fantastic, loads to choose from, salads, meat, fruit, vegetables, cakes and desserts, all was fresh and hot. There is also a children’s buffets which includes pasta, chips, fish fingers, nuggets and vegetables. There are different meals each night, like BBQ night and then Greek night and Italian night. There was too much to choose from especially with being all inclusive.
Drinks are good too even though they are served in plastic cups around the pool bar. The bar staff are very friendly.
The entertainment was also really good something for everyone.
If anyone complains about this complex they are very hard to please.
It was great value for money.
The only downfall is the location but there is a bus stop across the road and you can get round town for 80 cents. Taxis charge from £4 - £6.
Would definitely go back again.

Great food, a good variety of food....

May 2006, Mrs C.A. Megson

Great food, a good variety of food. All reps were very helpful and were on the go all day long. Very clean, no litter any where.
Staff very attentive and pleasant, couldn’t fault it at all. Easy to hire a car, the reps arranged this for us, they gave us info. on a few good places to visit and how to get there. Some roads a bit dicey up in the mountains, but great views. Forget the off road safari, hire a car and do it yourself.
Do advise you take out extra cover for tyre and sump damage, when you see the roads you’ll know why! Will go again.

Absolutely Fantastic!!!!!!!
My daughter and I went on our own holiday for a well earned break. And we got spoiled!
The food was excellent, the complex immaculate and the apartment very spacious.
All the staff were really friendly, we arrived late at night straight into our room to find a packed lunch in our fridge.
The indoor pool was perfect on cooler days, the outdoor was great better in warmer season.
We even found a secret little beach cove down behind the neighbouring hotel!
I would recommend this to anyone as couples or families.
The bus service into the harbour was great, shops & bars on the door step!
