The Europ is set right beside a picturesque canal and is only 5-10 minutes walk from the main market square so ideal for exploring on foot.
Staff were friendly and courteous and check in / out was without incident.
Rooms are very clean but basic with old fashioned furniture. They were a good size though. Bathroom had shower only no bath but this was OK for us.
Breakfast is a very good selection of cold meats, cheese, toghurts, toast, boiled eggs and a choice of cereals and drinks.
We got a great deal for this hotel with a Eurostar package from lastminute.com. We would definitely stay here again.
Not suitable though for a luxury romantic getaway but as a decent quality base to see Bruges I would recommend it. Bruges itself is a lovely surprise, very laid back atmosphere. beware of the bars/restauarnts on the actual main square as they are quite expensive. If you walk just 30 seconds down a little side street you get to reasonably priced pubs where you can still sit outside & people watch.
For those interested in local history ie WW1 trenches etc I would recommend Flanders Field tours - there are a max. 8 people in smart Mercedes minbus and the guide was excellent - really knowledgeable & passionate about the subject. They weren't as cheap as some tours but you got lunch with a drink included at a cafe.
