run down waste of a good location

brilliant location but it is under staffed and they are just not bothered about it at all.
There is no food available after 9.30am, the kids club is non existent.
We (myself, wife and 6 year old son) went for the last 2 weeks of july 2011. There are 2 elderly cleaners that have to look after 5 blocks of rooms and apartments so as you can imagine they do not do the greatest job in the world, in our block the rooms had a fridge with a cupboard next to it and by the look of it they had never cleaned under or behind either of them since the hotel had opened, which eventualy attracts the cockroaches. They freaked our son out so much that he would not sleep very well so we asked reception to get them to send the cleaners up again, they came up and sprayed some bug spray around the fridge and cupboard and left us the rest of the can. That afternoon there were 4 cockroaches running round the room trying to get away from the bug spray when my wife and son went up to the room from the pool (more about the pool in a minute!!!!). We went to reception and asked to move rooms and they gave us the keys for 2 other rooms, the first one there was no handle to flush the toilet and under/behind the fridge was filthy. The second one the fridge was the same and the artex had a big hole in it and was hanging of the ceiling in the living room. We went back to the reception and told them they were no good so they offered us a 3rd room and that had a leaking waste pipe under the sink and the same filth under/behind the fridge.
We told them we wanted to speak to the manager but the manager was not available until 6pm. so decided to go back to the pool until then, after being at the pool for a while my wife was in the water and I was laid on the sun lounger with our son who was asleep. My wife noticed something on the grid that runs round the pool and had a look to see what it was, she then realised it was POO!! She quickly made her way out of the pool, and as she did so noticed 3 or 4 more pieces actually in the pool!! She went and found the pool attendant and told him, he came with her back to the pool, had a look, then went and got his net on a long pole an scooped the offending pieces out of the pool without telling anyone else or clearing them out of the pool and carried on as though it had never happened.
We moved to another hotel that same evening.

Excellent Holiday

We booked this holiday through First Choice and found that for the location, rooms and pool it was exceptional value.
The rooms were large but basic, although for the price we couldnt have expected more. The air con was a life savour though, very cold which is needed in 30oc heat. Also the rooms were kept very clean and maids were very friendly.
The pool was definately the highlight of the hotel, very large and clean with plenty of sunloungers. Great atmosphere on a weekend also when the locals pop over and have a game of volleyball.
The food was average but OK for a lunchtime snack, although this is fine as the location of the hotel is amazing and there are some incredible restaurants within walking distance. I would reccommend mothers for the great service and staff and also happy island for the suckling pig on a thursday. Best meal of the holiday.
Only mild complaint would be that some of the reception staff can be very unhelpful. Other than that I would definately reccommend.

At first I thought the Basilica was great, just right for my two friends and me. The apartments were basic but clean just right for what we had paid. The pool was lovely but there could have been a few more sun loungers. The staffs weren’t the friendliest of people and the service was slow. The food wasn't fantastic, ok for a quick snack but there were plenty of brilliant restaurants with in walking distance (except the Pelican on the harbour where the food was dry and bland!!!). I would have considered returning to the Basilica until the incident I heard about on the last day......
A young lad on holiday with his family was returning to the apartment at 1am and was attacked on the apartment premises by men pretending to be plain-clothes policemen. The night receptionist refused to call the police even after other staff and guests pleaded with him. I was shocked at the blatant disregard the Basilica showed for their customers’ safety! The manager did not seem to be interested in making any attempt to sort out the problem the next day. All I can say is I’m glad I went home after this. I will defiantly return to Paphos it was a great resort with the plenty to do and the bars were fantastic especially Bubbles and Boogies. But I will not be going anywhere near the Basilica!!

My holiday was brilliant. Stayed in the apartments for only one week but wish it could have been longer. The location was brilliant! Food wasn't fab but you are surrounded by other restaurants and things to do so who cares! The staff were helpful and my room was always clean and tidy when I got back from a day at the pool! Highly recommended.

The only good thing about these...

Jun 2007, Mrs L F

The only good thing about these apartments was the location, very close to the harbour and restaurants.
I really cannot say anything good about the apartments. They were scruffy, and smelly, the rooms had been given a lick of paint , but the sheets were dirty, and we were unlucky that we got no sun at all on our balcony and the view was straight into someone’s backyard.
I didn’t find the staff very friendly or helpful, but what topped it for me was when I used the hotel toilets whilst waiting for our coach to pick us up, I discovered one was full of sick and the other had puddles of urine on the floor, obviously hadn’t been cleaned for some time.
I only sat around the poolside for about 30 mins, very scruffy sunbeds, and the smell from the sewer was clearly noticeable.
Having said that we had a nice holiday in Paphos travelling around the island and the weather was fab!! Wouldn’t go back to Basilica though!

This was our tenth year in Paphos, and our first time in the Bascilica. The two bed roomed apartment was the best accommodation we’ve had in Cyprus, it was immaculate, the beds were comfortable, the room was cleaned daily as was the bar area, pool, and communal areas, it was an asset to Olympic Holidays.
It was central to the harbour and shops. We would return tomorrow. Try the "Mothers" restaurant at the rear, Costas is a really great "good" guy, a true Cypriot, he lent us his own car to go up Troodos, as ours was a tiny 1000cc.
The Bascilica reception, bar staff and cleaning ladies were all very friendly as were Olympic reps, we stayed from 27/05/06 to 10/06/06.

Oct 2005, Miss S E Ramwell

We’ve just returned after a week at the basilica apartments. Although our tour operator Olympic tried their best to ruin our holiday, the staff at the Basilica did the opposite!
After a delay on the way meaning we did not reach our destination until 2 o’clock in the morning, we were delighted to find that we had been upgraded to a 3 bedroom 'mansion'! The staff including the maids were pleasant on a daily basis making our stay an enjoyable experience. As for the resort itself, even though there were plenty of trips to go on, we mainly stayed around the harbour and filled our days easily.
There were enough bars, restaurants and shops to keep you amused throughout the week. All in all, a pleasant and enjoyable holiday and we will return in the future!

We have just returned from a two week...

We have just returned from a two week holiday at the Basilica Apartments and have had a great time.
We had a two bed roomed apartment, which was a good size, clean, well decorated and well equipped. The apartment was in a block further away from the pool etc. and on the second floor but this did not bother us. It may be different if you have younger children and need to go back and forth more often.
Although we had a self catering package the complex offered breakfast and dinner. Each evening the dinner was a different "theme" such as pasta, carvery, souvlaki. We tried a couple of these meals and found them to be very good and value for money.
There was always various salad dishes or soup as a starter, meat potatoes and veg. for main course and fresh fruit or cake for dessert. This was all buffet style and you helped yourself to as much as you wanted. The cost was 6.95 Cypriot pounds and half price for children. This was a lot cheaper than eating at any of the restaurants around the resort except for MacDonalds, Pizza and KFC if you class those as restaurants, I don’t.
The main pool was a good size but didn’t get too deep, 1m.50 and there was a separate pool for toddlers. There was also another pool nearer some of the other blocks of apartments that was smaller but deeper 1m.50 - 2m.50 that you could use.
All the staff were very pleasant and helpful. We needed a doctor for my daughter when she had a ear infection and the reception staff went out of their way to help us.
The nearest beaches were a bit of a walk but had watersports available. The best beach (apparently) was Coral Bay but you needed to get a bus to get there. Bus stop was just over the road.
The weather is very hot and quite humid. We found it too hot to really go anywhere during the day. Air conditioning is available in the rooms but you have to pay for it, per unit, per day.
Definitely somewhere I could see us going back to.
