A group of 16 is never easy to organise for a ski holiday and it's always a worry when booking accommodation, as if it all goes completely wrong then I'm the one to blame... The Ridge hotel was my best choice yet! We had a mixture of rooms and all where minimalist and... more

What a great place to stay in Morzine. We went boarding last winter and found the accommodation and staff at the ridge superb. Our hotel rep (Clarissa I think?) really went out of her way to make sure that we got everything we needed... she organised night time sledging and... more

Great At The Ridge December 2007
We booked this hotel for a long weekend's skiing just before Christmas. I think it’s the only hotel that you can book for a long weekend in the ski season , all the other hotels wanted us to stay for seven nights . I looked at their website www.morzinelets.com before deciding to book , It gives you all the information about the Hotel and what it offers it was so simple staying for a weekend you can get everything you need in one place , we booked collection from the airport , ski passes ready when we arrived , and they have their own ski shop next to the hotel with all the latest equipment and the staff in the shop were very helpful .what sort of place it is i.e. Food was fantastic ,five star f, the location is very easy , the free shuttle bus stops outside the hotel and takes you to the ardent lift ,directly into Avoriaz , if you want to go into town at night you it is about a 10 min walk or the bar will book you a minibus for 22 euros for up to eight people , great value and service I’ve stayed in a lot of hotels around the world and paid a lot of money for less Overall this is an efficient hotel , very clean with friendly English staff and we paid about £ 100.00 per person per night you get a very good value for money .

Left sunny England to spend the week prior to Easter enjoying the snow. Drove down to Morzine overnight so I was a little tired on arival. Found the staff to be very pleasant and welcoming. We had a terific stay and personally found the size of the rooms and showers with loads of hot, high pressure water very nice. The bar can be busy but I guess you either like this kind of thing or you dont. I do, so, woo hoo. I have had the pleasure of staying in many hotels all over the world and I found the Ridge to be exactly "as it said on the tin" I dont recall it claiming to be "The Ritz". There was always members of staff around willing answer our dumb questions without looking down ther noses at us. Something some of the so called better hotels could learn from. I would suggest that the hotel is aimed at the younger market although there was a good mixture when we stayed (it will either make you realise how old you are or it will make you feel that you are not that old at all). It did have somthing of a chalet feel to meal times and as a parent (im 42) attempting to feed two early 20s sons and a 14 year old daughter the food was a god send with the kitchen staff being most accomodating. If you like a 5 course banquet and to sit around in your slippers with your pipe in one hand and a brandy in the other you may not find the Ridge to your liking. I guess it is all down to expectations but the hotel and the staff exceeded all of ours. Overall a very pleasant stay and excellent value for the money.
Best Holiday ever!
We have just left the Ridge Hotel yesterday after a perfect week, so I thought I'd leave some feedback and was so dissappointed to read such negative comments from previous visitors. We found the hotel from searching the internet and at first I was unsure as it was very different from your usual cozy french chatel/hotel, but we booked late and they offered a good deal and good advice, so I thought lets go for it. I was certainly not dissappointed. The staff were all very helpful and welcoming, but professional (even inculding "young dudes" previously referred to!) The food was very good every morning and night and they paid great attention to my fussy daughter's every whim! We loved the contempory style, beautiful artwork in all the public rooms and my daughter loved the fact that she could connect to the internet all day and night! The beds were so comfy and even my rather large hubby (all of 14 and a half stone and 6ft of him!) managed to stay in the shower for a good 15 minutes and with a endless supply of hot water. And after a day of fantastic skiing (even in April) and fantastic food (isn't that what we go for??) I fell into bed without a single thought about bedside lights, tables etc..... So I suggest that you go and find out for yourselves. We can't wait for next season!

It's the little things that count
I was tentative about booking this hotel for my husband and our friends - I read the reviews and was fairly cynical but was persuaded otherwise by the Morzinelets representative. So, my views. This hotel is trying to be "boutique" BUT...I stay in many many hotels of differing standards all over the world and I'm afraid that by adding a few trendy sofas, WIFI and white duvet covers, does not make a hotel necessarily boutique/cool or whatever this place is trying to be. In my view I think that we are a bit of mutton trying to be dressed as lamb. The rooms are small but not necessarily unsurprising for a traditional french hotel or chalet which is obviously what this was in a former life. I've stayed in other hotels in morzine and they are not dissimilar. BUT, the shower cubicles are TINY. I am only 5 foot 1 and I felt claustrophobic in that cubicle... There was no soap in our bathroom when we arrived - yes, of course I bring my own shower gel but I did at least expect something to wash my hands with at the sink. I - It appeared by Day 3.... The cleaners dive in your room whilst you are down at breakfast. I appreciate they're keen to get on the slopes - I've done a ski season so know that this is one of the only reasons you're in that resort - , but if you have someone knocking round your room at 8.45am when you're trying to get your ski-stuff together it's really irritating. The rooms are sparse. I appreciate this hotel is trying to be trendy, but the blinding halogen lights in each room are great when you're trying to find lost items, but not if your room sharer fancies a kip after your hard day on the slopes before you head out and you fancy a read. Can't you at least put in a couple of contemporary basic side lights or wall mounted above the bed ? A lot of people like a bit of quiet time after an exhausting day on the slopes and not everyone spends that time in the bar. Come on, it wouldn't take much would it ? There is one small "trendy" leather cube thing which I suspect is a stool cum table thing, but otherwise, no side table (couldn't you have found a trendy one ??) or anywhere to dump spare change, a book etc etc. Oh and the electric socket is nowhere near the mirror (helpful when you're trying to dry your hair).. Breakfast - the room that the breakfast is served in is more youth hostel than boutique hotel . Food was pretty standard stuff, cereals, mixed breads, croissants ham cheese and was all pretty nice BUT and this might sound petty to some of you....The coffee was instant ! ...Yes, we're in France where the coffee is great, but we get instant coffee. Come on Ridge Hotel, you're charging people £160 per night and you give us instant coffee. I did make a comment to the staff at the time which was met with a "you can buy real coffee in the bar later...." mmm, thanks for that. Evening Meals were included but we ate out every night - the food appeared to be pretty "chalet" fayre....think salads, boeuf bourgignonne - that type of thing. Anything that can be made in a large cauldron and served to the masses. There isn't a B & B option for those who want to eat out each night. As the person below says, the "free minibus" is not free for guests, just those who would like to come and line the pockets of the owner by spending money in his bar.... Oh, and if you'd like to have a shower after your long days ski-ing on the day that you leave, that'll be 10 euros per person please. The last ski weekend I had in Morzine, the lovely lady in the chalet even let us in to her own apartment on the ground floor to use her shower just before we jetted off to the airport. ....I say no more. So, to sum up, if you really can't experience the true France in Morzine and get into one of the more traditional French hotels which are great value, then stay here....we did a weekend and this can be done here easily (not so easy in the traditional hotels where they want week to week bookings) and granted you do often pay a premium for more "weekend" type accommodation - but, it's not cheap and given some of the fabulous places I've stayed in the world, definitely not value for money and of the places I've stayed in Morzine (this is my 6th visit to this resort), definitely not the best . The "girls" running the show are very pleasant and very friendly and seem to work pretty hard. I'm not sure if there was a manager there but there did seem to be one guy around who gave off an air of being too cool for school..... Oh, and I was assured that if you're on the top floor of the main building, you can't hear the bar noise. Sorry, not true. The music can be heard from the top floor....so if you are noise sensitive, this place might not be for you unless you want to be up to 1am until the bar closes.
Served It's Purpose
We booked this hotel as a last resort for a long weekend's skiing. Everything else in Morzine was full. It is evident from their website what sort of place it is i.e. Run by British for British clients. Food was fine, location OK as we had our own car but would be a pain if you had to rely on their mini bus services. My main gripes were Sky TV being shown constantly in bar, they charge you 20 Euros if you want to go into town in evening and want them to drive you, but they ferry non -residents from the town to the hotel bar for free in an attempt to get them to drink there. Also wanted a quick shower after last days skiing prior to getting flight for which the charge 10 Euros each, which is a bit much having spent hundreds of pounds there over the previous few days. Most hotels will do this for free. Overall this is an efficient hotel that serves it's purpose but no more than that. They maximise their income by offering a huge range of extras and are a one stop shop for everything you need. I guess it is hassle free but lacks any charm and is overpriced compared to other Morzine hotels I've stayed in before. If you want local charm don't go here, but if you want Fosters, Guiness, Sky TV, sunday roast lunches and hundreds of snowboard dudes hanging around its the place for you.
Misses the mark
The Ridge hotel is in the same ownership as the nearby Le Rhodos (we were moved from there - see review). A smart contemporary designed hotel it displays the managments quirky view of running a hotel. There is no reception so any query needs to be directed at one of the cool dudes behind the bar who, grooving to the tunes from the sound system, is not necessarily thinking about the job. The food in the restaurant is good but there is no choice unless you can claim an allergy to a specific course. You cannot book any wine/drinks to your room. They must all be paid for at point of purchase. The hotel sports a number of minibuses. These are free for non residents (you read that right) but residents are charged 20 euros per trip flat rate. The 'rational' here is that non residents will be carried back and forth to the hotel at no charge as they will presumably spend money in the bar. Residents are already there spending of course, so for any trip around the village, the hotel is a kilometer or so out of town, they must pay the 20 Euros irrespective of distance. The resort ski bus stops outside the hotel but this service can be flakey, especially at weekends. I booked one such trip; a 10.30 after dinner pick up from the edge of town for my wife and I. Unfortunately the 'dude' that ran the minibus operation, in the bar of course, 'forgot' the booking. We froze in the street for half an hour before a kindly soul gave us a lift home. To the hotel management cash is king and nothing else matters. The staff actually running the hotel are mostly extremely nice and very polite and friendly young British girls and they are the main saving grace of this establishment. For £140 per night (half board for two) you can do much better in Morzine.
I really enjoyed the Ridge Hotel...
We stayed at the ridge hotel last winter and enjoyed it so much I went back mountain biking this summer. Both times I was well looked after and found it the perfect place from which to go boarding and biking. We really enjoyed the lively bar and had a few really good nights without having to leave the comfort of the hotel (big screen for skysports!). The staff there were great fun and where all knowledgable about morzine. I wouldn't rate this as a 5star hotel but for those looking for good clean accommodation at a good rate it's perfect.
Rip Off!
This hotel is quite simply a rip-off. It masquerades as a sleek and sophisticated, up market ski hotel. What it fails to tell you on its very glitzy web site are that the rooms are miniscule, the shower rooms even smaller (i.e. you cannot sit straight on the toilet if you are over 5 foot 6inches) and that the walls are paper thin. Add in a very noisy bar full of non-residents that goes on well into the night and which can be heard from every room and the whole place would be a let down even if it were a reasonable price. The fact that it costs c.£200 a night just compounds the feeling that you are being taken for a ride. The food is chalet style and although good there is no choice. The staff were very friendly and efficient but unsurprisingly there was no manager around since I don't think he or she could take the flak!
