good value
We stayed from 10th to 17th Sept, reception area very nice, but the rooms are dated but clean. The location is superb, it is 80 pence on the bus from one end of the town to the other which is very good value. Taxis are cheap you can barter with them. Back to the hotel i do agree it is not a 4 star not on english terms anyway. The food is okay, the main problem is the people they tend to mess it up when they help themselves. The bushes are overgrown also, and the carpet in the dinning room wants ripping up. Apart from that it is good value for money
It's what you make it!
Having read other reviews, I arrived with an open mind. Our flight was delayed, and we arrived around midnight. All was quiet, but the night porter was pleasant and polite, and checked us in quickly & efficiently. The room was adequate and clean. We’d booked a sea view, and yes, we could see the sea (in the distance). Not worth paying extra for. Food is all buffet style. Plenty of it, quality OK, but not a great variety as the week goes on. Nice big pool, with water features which are soothing to listen to! Public areas are spacious and comfortable. Staff are excellent. Waitresses work hard, and long hours, but they always found time to smile, and their English was excellent. They are mostly foreign students – intelligent and interesting to talk to. Service is quick and efficient. A hotel like this gives you the basic facilities, and it is up to you what you make of them. Don’t expect the hotel to entertain you. Do take what the Med Hotels rep says with a large pinch of salt - avoid the "Jeep safari" at all costs, unless you enjoy being thrown around in the back of an old landrover, unable to see anything. (despite what she says, they have sideways facing bench seats with no headroom and no seatbelts). A bit like banging your head against a wall – great when it stops! The leader of our safari group was proud of the fact that he gets paid for enjoying himself. A bit ironic – I think the drivers are the only ones who enjoy it! Most impressive part is seeing the abuse that a landrover can take! Don’t believe them when they say it’s the only way to get into the mountains. It’s an easy drive if you’re careful, and you can hire a 4x4 if you want to venture off down the dirt tracks. Do get out and about. Use the buses. Ideally, hire a car. Roads are quiet and they drive on the left. We had a car for two days. Easily the best part of the holiday. Go inland and see the villages, like Kathikas. Go into the mountains and have lunch in Platres, and go walking around Troodos (it’s cooler than on the coast). To be honest, if we go again, it will be self catering, away from the tourist centres, with a car for the duration.
Avlida not 4*
Well after reading most of the reviews before we went to Cyprus, we were a bit apprehensive, But no need to have worried. The Hotel was okay situated not far from local bars etc and bus stop right outside. The Hotel itself is definately not a 4* where the bedrooms are concerned, I would say basic but clean with maid service every day. Air conditioning passable but could do with improving ( Think the hotel have the setting fixed no matter how low you set it ). The bad thing about it is when you leave the room the air conditioning goes off when you take key out so when you return the room is hot. ( You can get over that by replacing key with something else ). The fridge in room was okay, and no charge. Bathroom clean with shower and bath, plenty of hot water. Staff were good especially the girls in the restraruant and reception, Male members of staff including Managers need to smile now and again. Food was good with good variety ( But not for children ). We went HB, full board gives you lunch near the pool and choice is limited and not very good ( waste of money ) same applies to all inclusive. Pool was fine and yes pool was cooled but only the first time you get in, soon got used to it, especially when weather was in the 35 degrees C. Entertainment!! Well depends what you want, but best to go out to Harbour or the local bars. Entertainment is limited to solo artist with guitar. We went to Avilda because it looked good on brouchure, but now we have been and looked around at other hotels, there are better Hotels.
awful hotel
Just returned from Avlida hotel, took our 9 month old for our first family holiday, highchairs were so dirty i could not use them, childrens toys were broken the rooms were old and dirty - one couple had ants in their bed and no toilet seat ! this hotel is defintaly not a 4 star more like a 2 star ! Food was dreadful, went all inclusive thinking we would not have to go out to eat but how wrong was we Guests complaining every night but the management did not seem interested until one guest said she was a solicitor and he gave her her money back and they left the same night ! Thank god we only went for a week any longer we would of paid for a flight home What they dont tell you is one side of the hotel is next to a building site and the other next to a strip club ! nice. Never will return to this hotel, and i recommend you dont !
Not value for money
4 star!! your having a laugh, 3 star at best. went end august start of sept, should have been able to enjoy all the ammenities, no chancs. no disco no kareoke no wine tasting no quizz, as if already shut down. food ok but same most evenings. slovakian waitresses very hardworking, run off feet but time for a smile and a chat. greek bosses miserable, including hawkeye the one with wonkey eye, (hooded cloak and sythe in hand) very little entertainment, tony and george on guitar and organ would send anyone to suicide. certainly not go back here, other parts of cyprus may be nice, BE WARNED
Ants in the bed.Smelly & dirty.Not a 4 star more a 2 star.Air con rubbish
19th July to 26 July 2006. The first room we were given was dirty and smelly, but we thought we would probably have to put up with it (after all, we are British) so we bought an air freshener to spray the room.It didn't do much good though. I don't know what the smell was, probably years of ingrained dirt. In bed that night I felt something crawling all over me and squashed something on my face but stayed in bed and finally got to sleep. In the morning, I was dreading asking my husband if he also felt anything, as I was hoping it was my imagination, but, he too had felt something crawling on him. we then looked throught the bed and collected about 20 dead ANTS. We took the ants to the manager on duty but all he said was "ants don't crawl on people or go up to the second floor " (i didn't know ants were afraid of heights). He then said he would get the maid to spray the room with disinfectant, if anyone knows anything about ants, they will know that they are very difficult to get rid of and would laugh at a puff of disinfectant. At no time did he appologise. He said we should go back at 2pm and he would "see what he could do about changing our room". We didn't trust that he would give us a different room so, at our meeting with the hotel rep, we spoke to her about it and she TOLD the manager that he had to change our room. Tha next room was better, newer carpet, cleaner and didn't smell, except that the air con didn't work very well. It was over 90degs so we needed it, and the room was very stuffy to say the least. Again my husband spoke to the reception staff who said an engineer would be up to take a look. We returned to the hotel at 4pm and he still had not been so my husband went down to reception again. This time an engineer did arrive,he stuck his fingers into the slates and moved them about and said "ok, if that dosn't work any better, let reception know and I will come and change the filter" It wasn't any better, so again my husband went to reception and asked for the filter to be changed, of course the engineeer didn't return and at that point we gave up and just put up with it. We didn't sleep very well because of the heat but what does one do if the management doesn't take any notice of you and just laughts at you and puts you down as a trouble maker. The only place to get a drink or anything to eat during the day is by the pool area, the main bar is closed and only opened at night and this is in the height of the season. The food wasn't too bad though and the waiting staff were very nice (mostly eastern european cheap labour). it's the management that are at fault. I think it is truly disgusting, we don't have any recourse and our hard earned money has been wasted. I am going to write to the hotel, but I leave it to your imagination as whether I get a reply. I will never trust the star system again and I would not recommend that anyone stay at this terrible hotel, unless they are an entomologist.
NOT A 4 STAR
Well what can i say!!!!! this is not a 4 star hotel. We have just come back from a week all inclusive and are very disappointed. The lobby area is very nice and when you arrive you think ah this is great until you get to the reception desk they are very slow and do not speak to you or smile. Our key had been lost so they said that every timw we needed to get into our room they would have to open it. When she took us to out room , what a shock it was smelly mouldy and small. i had asked for two rooms with an interconnecting door and got one room with four beds squashed together. The air conditioning did not work and theuir was no tea or coffee making facilites, that was extra. The shower did not work and the bathroom was very dirty old and smelly. The next day i asked to move and we did into a room that i had first requested, this was a little better but still not a 4 star. The main things that let this hotel down is the rooms and the entertainmnet as this is just 1 singer who cannot even do that. The waitresses work extremely hard and always have a smile for you. The food was good i have no complaints theri always a good choice and plenty of it. The pool is great too, my children had alot of fun here. The location is good. If you dont mind about the condition of your room and entertainment then this hotel is ok, but i cetainly will not recommend it and will not be going back their.
disgusting not a 4 star hotel!
i went to the avlida hotel on the 4-6 of august for a break with my husband and son.we were looking forward to a few days of lucxury of a 4 star hotel but we wter shocked when we got there.the pictures of the hotel we saw of the hotels official site must have been taken from a hollywood movie it did not look like that.it was very very dirty and the smell of bad drains were everywhere!the hotel staff was not very helpful as the did not undertsand english. the rooms were very dirty dull and smelly.the bathroom was dirty and mould was everywhere.the room for a 4 star hotel was not like that!! i am very dispointed with this hotel and i do not know how it has got its stars. i was awfui.i suggest anyone not to go there it is not worth the money.
Definitely Not a 4 star!!
We were booked in to the Avlida for 14 nights - as soon as we arrived the outside looked very nice, reception was quite dark but while checking in the receptionist was so miserable she didn't even smile! Anyway we were on the 3rd floor, the lift was tiny (anyone who is going please don't use the lift as i got stuck in it on my own for nearly an hour!, my worst fear came true, i had hardly any air and i was in total darkness - no apologies or anything from the hotel), the floor was dirty, looked like it hadn't been hoovered in over a year, and the ceiling and walls were dirty. The room was also a bit dirty, ok though, but not what i would expect at all. When you open the door to the tiny balcony the air con goes off aswell! Anyway i wasn't happy at all so complained and ended up in this lovely room overlooking the sea front and with a much bigger balcony and more spacious overall. The only thing was the air con was rubbish and the fridge which you have to pay £2 a day for is warm! I met a few couples who also had dirty rooms and ended up changing - one couple especially showed me their old room - the toilet was black! It was disgusting! There was mold and dirt growing off the walls and ceiling and it smelt so moldy - they said their clothes smelt so bad. We went all inclusive which i feel was a big mistake - the only thing we benefitted from was the drinks by the pool each day. The food was awful! Breakfast ok, not good, lunch was awful, oh and dont eat the spag bol as it tastes of soap! We must have gone through a lot of the menu by the pool and everything was undercooked or burnt or off. The buffet lunch was just as bad and the dinner was even worse! If you like a mixture of overcooked food from Indian to Pasta then this place is right up your street! By the end of the first week we ate out every night as the food disagreed with us big time! The entertainment was a nothing really, the same guy playing rubbish Cypriot music every single night! There was no disco nights or nothing to get people going at all. I felt sorry for the waiters/waitresses though - they are always there with smiles on their faces but working all the time every day, doing the breakfast, lunch AND dinner shifts, i felt so sorry for them! For people who like training too, this isn't the place to go - they advertise a gym which works - well it doesn't! The weights dont have any keys so cant be used and the machines are just sat in the middle of the room and there are no plugs attached to them! The only thing which worked for about 2 days was the running machine but there is no air con there, it is situated in the basement and it is like a sauna, its unbelievable the heat! On a happier and more positive note though, the pool area was lovely and the hotel is situated only a 10 minute walk close to all shops, bars and restaurants. They class this as a 4 star - NO CHANCE! - more like a low 3 star! I wouldn't go back there if you paid me! Jo, Manchester
Brill wots all the fuss about????????????
there was 9 of us stayed at this hotel, 6 adults and 3 kids adults age ranged from 26 to 40 kids aged from 3 to 10. we had a brilliant time hotel lovely, pool area great and for the staff i have never met a nicer group of people realy lovely and very polite. makes me wonder if the hotel we were at is the same one. food was good to we never had any complaints what so ever. but i surpose its everyone to there own. if the big yellow (blow up one) octopus is still there in the pool thats was ours great laugh we had with that. rooms were basic but at the end of the day you go on holiday to get out and about its only a bed at the end of the day. if you miss your sunday lunch when your away ask a taxi to take you to the chlock small taxi ride A+++++. keep up the good work and cya next year
