THIS HOTEL IS A 3 STAR NOT A 4 STAR
3 / 10
Jun 2011, thelmathoughts

We booked this hotel thinking it ws a 4 star, it is not, the hotel need to change it ratings to a 3 star. The hotel is in a good postion, a nice beech within a few minutes walk, a excellent bus stop outside. The reception area is good, and the pool area is good, but bedrooms are terreble, but food is 3 star. Nicjola was excellent, thank you you made our holiday.
The manager walking around without a smile and not even saying hello to guests made us feel very uncomfortble.

  • Advice: The good bus service

we stayed here in may 2011 and are definitely going back, here are our thoughts on things:
first things first: Its not on the beach. if you want a beach go to coral bay, everything else is not worth mentioning. Beach = Coral Bay. Otherwise, the location of the hotel is excellent, towards the end of tombs of kings road. New Mcdonalds and KFC about 5 minute walk from the place, very convenient to get out a bit with the kids.
The hotel is clean and the staff are very friendly.
The food is hot and plentyful, wouldn't hurt if the chef actually knew the name of the desserts in english. The staff are very friendly. The rooms are spacious, clean and tidy, do go the extra length and book a side sea view or pool view room.
The entertainment is absolutely absolutely fantastic. TV quality shows for you thrown in for free.
The pool is nice, shaped around with waterfall features, tucked in the back of the hotel, up the stairs you'll find a quite are for sunbathing, lots of sun beds and looked inviting,
All in All we will definitely go back to the Avlida Again.

Above average hotel

Apr 2011, Debbie

Went to this hotel on the first day of april, this was a 3 day holiday break for us and serveed and a short escape. English and cyprtios mainly there, We think that the hotel itself is just fine and we paid what was fairly good. The weather was cold for one of the days and we were unprepared.
The food was alright, good desert, cypriot themed quite heavilily. Breakfast was alright.
Side sea view room was alright but really not worth payin extra when you cant sit outside because of the weather.Television with enough channels
Pleasant outdoor areas (pool, deck area patio etc.) Generally ok

  • Advice: Visit restaurants around

holidays at the Avlida

We were worried when we booked at the hotel the first time, but after having a good time decided to go back for short break. the fact is that the hotel is in general quite nice. good food, good people, good location good pool. clean rooms and spacious as well. mainly news channels in the rooms, sports and movies in the lobby. Last time there was a chap that played some classic rock music in the evening, which was fine, now there was a cypriot guy banging a bouzouki, not my cup of tea, but most of the people there seemed to enjoy it so cant really complain much

Me and 17 other people went to Avlida Hotel on the 20th October-27th for a wedding. When getting to the hotel the service we recieved was poor and the staff were ignorant and rude. The food was terrible. Always the same food through our stay. Nothing was cooked well and was left to go cold. While staying at the hotel many people were complaining about the state of their rooms and the food. Epecting it to be a four star Hotel we expected better the only good thing about the hotel is that the rooms we stayed in were cleaned everyday and were comfortable. For a four star hotel to have no entertainment is unbelieveable. We also had younger people with use and babies and there was nothing for them to take part in either. We had to make our own entertainment through out our stay. Should never be a '4' Star Hotel.

choice well made

We were shocked once we came online to see what others thought about the Avlida, mind you, good thing we did so after our holiday finished cos otherwise we might of cancelled before going! We choose hotels based more on location rather than in-hotel facilities. The particular area of tombs of the kings is very family targeted, most of the restaurants there have enough space for kids play area, which allows to leave the car in the hotel and go somewhere for dinner without worrying about bored kids running out in the street. Having said that, the hotel itself is just fine, cant think of anything to blame. clean room, Good tasting breakfast and snacks, fab swimming pool area, some entertainment during the day (limited to the active people) and a show every second night at the patio. The inevitable bingo is on almost every night, and karaoke more than once per week. Soft bed to sleep on at night and pleasant staff. What more can one realy want actually? We felt that the entertainment was really, just too "british based". I mean even the quiz was too english oriented, we live in cyprus and do not know any english TV shows, so that kind of put us off one night. Otherwise all was ok, brilliant value for money.

I honestly don't know where to start with this hotel, But here it goes ill start with the postives. The main enternce hall was amazing, all marble, goregous (well so I thought until..) When I checked in the staff were miserable and unwelcoming.
Then I got up to my room and
-there was a long dirt ring on my mirrow in the bathroom,
-mold inbetween the tiles
-a fag burn on the toliet seat :/
-the towels were stained and ripped
Then moving onto the room....
-When you take off the pillow cases the pillows were brown
-the stiching in the bedding was all pulled out
-the netting behind the curtains was ment to be white but infact discoloured
-the aircon system was extremly noisy and full of dirt which im highly surprised I didn't get a ear infection.
I had paid extra for a sea view room yet when we got to the hotel we were facing the local village which looked like the slums.
But we kept on heads up thought we'd mention it to our tour operator and get changed rooms, then went down for food because we were half board, however when we got down there the food was served late and was pasta in coconut sause and cherries, you can imagine we was horrifed that isnt a greek dish, there wasnt even a varity and for pudding was jelly.
There was NO entertainment at all, and there was only about 3 members off staff working. Not once was the pool cleaned and I was there for a week there was mould around the pool. We also heard rumours about somebody getting a ear infection from the pool and another person ordered a pina colada cocktail and the cream that the bar man was putting in the pina colada had mould around the lid, which olympic admitted was true but yet they still have it advisted and a 4star hotel and two years it was ment to have been closed down for health and safety reasons.
We booked through Olympic which wouldnt be recommened especially if you end up with a guy called danny or a woman called siobhan both were of no help at all and both were rude. We explained the state of the rooms and even showed our rep danny, he then passed us off to siobhan where she said she could down grade us for £125 to a 3 star bed and breakfast :/
PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY.
After all the things i've listed im sure you can make your own mind up with what kind of hotel it is.

NOT THE BEST

Checked in for a seven night stay on a hot Wednesday afternoon, two children my wife and yours truly. Reception 4* without a doubt but from there on in its 2* at best. Booked a front sea view family room, given back dump view with a glimpse of the sea, very dirty, pathetic air-con, toilet not working, door lock not working. My wife complained and after 20 hours we were offered two adjoining pool side rooms. These were better but might just scrape a 2* rating. The beds are THE hardest I have ever slept in (or tried to), and I have an orthopedic mattress at home. The pool was good, bar and snack service very good. Meals all buffet style and very good. All waiters / waitresses etc work non stop and are very helpful and deserve a medal. Management do what they can but the hotel rooms are what they are and obviously cannot be changed over night. Entertainment disgraceful and the guy running it was diabolical and seemed to be there for his own fun and not the guests. If you like bingo and crap quizzes then this guy's for you. Towards the end of our seven night stay the hotel was invaded by Cypriot families, the manager told us that he would rather have 200 more British families than the 80 Cypriot ones booked in and after two days with them handling food at the buffet and putting it back, filling shopping bags with fruit and behaviour likely to earn a slap if you did it in the UK we'd had enough. We were told by other guests that the hotel were not taking any more bookings from outside Cyprus until September as they didn't want any problems with the Cypriot guests, who I was told are there due to a government euro subsidy to encourage lower earning families to holiday.
If you're looking for a 4* hotel forget the Avlida and go elsewhere, if you don't mind very basic rooms but everything else good to very good go.

Not as expected

At first we booked the hotel as a recomendation from an acquitancy, but then saw the terrible reviews online. We tried to change but we would of lost out deposit. We went with a heavy heart, but we neednt worry. Our stay was wonderful, we faced no problems. On arrival we were greeted by a grand reception and lounge area, and a polite receptionist. We went into our room to find it clean, spacious and bright. we had booked a pool view which was pleasant and soothing. Our meals were alright, we only really used our all inclusive bands for drinks, as we always made it to breakfast. If you want doubles then you do have to ask, they dont serve them as a default. The pool was pleasant, and there was a lagoon type ofarea on top of the restaurant, nicely put together. We didnt go to the beach opposite the hotel as we rented a car and drove around papho. Its a lovely resort, be sure to visit the small fishing harbour area but only during the day as its pretty quiet at night.
Enjoy your holidays.!

A Family holiday
4 / 10
Nov 2008, INGRID.WELLS

Ouf family of three sons plus partners and six month old grand-daughter spent a week at this hotel in late October, we were very disappointed, this is supposed to be a four star hotel alledgedly recently refurbished, the decor appears to have been untouched in the last twenty years. The wallpaper was peeling off in the corridors and our bedrooms. Tea making facilities were not available except at a cost of 3 euros per person per day which seems ridiculous for an Island which has had so much British influence. Our son and has wife were unable to get a kettle to boil water to sterilise things for their six month old daughter. The food was not good, and the restaurant was more of a feeding station than a relaxing enjoyable experience. On arrival we had a very long wait at reception which was staffed by only one person, she coped very well on her own and was very pleasant but this did not seem to be very good management. The bar staff were not very friendly. The pool area was very nice and it was clean with plenty of sunbeds. All in all we enjoyed our holiday in Cyprus the weather was lovely, but we would not return to The Avlida

Hotel from Hell
1 / 10
Nov 2008, mitzylou

We checked into this hotel which in reception aera looked ok. Then hell began. Went to the pool bar to get a snack. Talking to a couple they said don't eat the chips they have been there from lunch time.We ordered a sandwich when it came it did have chips with it they were cold and you could see they had been lieing arround. Then to top it all a cat was licking the plates.Lift was very small and don't think i would trust to use it on my own.Rooms were very very tired towels and sheets very worn infact I would not put my clothes in the wardrobe it did not smell to good.
Evening meal was disgusting and being a diabetic I have to have good food and cleaness due to having to inject myself.
Water in the room was just dripping out of the tap and you could only flush the toilet once every hour which is not good. My husband had to have a dry shave and he cut himself very bad.
Staff were walking around with long faces not a smile in the place. We arrived on the saturday and left on the monday morning we could not stay there. Rep was useless we told her our complaints but she was not bothered. This place should be shut down or knocked down. After our first evening meal we did not eat there again you could not see what you were eating as there was bright red lights on the food the one and only meal i had i did not know what it was.Pool looked dirty in want of a good clean.
Talking to other people there they were not pleased with the place and some were eating out.
