Aug 2008, Miss CEB Brennan

i will start off with the good points. the waitresses were really nice and freindly and tried to serve you as quick as possible. some of the girls even came out of a night with us and it was a great laugh.
how ever. the pictures of the hotel are nothing like what you realy see. it was one massive disapiontment. the management were rude. they would pretend they couldnt hear you if you had problems and they would try to double charge you for things. the pool water is dirty and gave me and seven other people in the hotel a ear infection. to go to a doctors by taxi and back see the doctor and get the ear drops cost 150 euros. what a joke just because they dont clean the pool. in 2 weeks of being there they did not clean it once. my food had a cooked plastic wrapper in it and a hair another time. the down stairs toilet near the freezing cold dirty indoor pool had cockroches and insects. our bedroom toilet when flushed some times would bring other peoples human waste up. overal the service was bad but not the waitress' fault. it was like staying in a bed and breakfast. i was a worse version of butlins . but cyprus is beautiful just pic another hotel

Aug 2008, Miss F Carrisi

My partner and I have just returned from a week's stay at the Avlida.
The location of the hotel was good and the Harbour and Coral Bay are easily accessible by bus from outside the hotel.
There are some nice restaurants and bars within walking distance.
However, the hotel itself was a disappointment.
I don't see how it can be classed as a 4 star, I have stayed in much nicer 3 star hotels elsewhere.
The reception area is very nice, but this just leads to further disappointment when you see the room!
The decor is very shabby and the bathroom did not appear very clean to me.
The towels were clean but some were stained and the shower curtain had definitley seen better days! The bathroom bin was not emptied daily which I thought was pretty gross considering that all used toilet paper has to be thrown in there!
The service was also extremely poor. 20mins to half hour wait for a drink! And there was no apologies from the staff for the delay.
The food was pretty good but we rarely got a drink before we'd finished eating.
The entertainment was quite poor but we didn't mind as we went out every night anyway.
Overall, an enjoyable holiday, but no thanks to hotel Avlida.
I would return to Paphos but would not return to the Avlida, nor would I recommend anyone else to if you actually want 4 star accomodation.

Aug 2008, Mr A Smith

My family and I spent 12 days at the Avlida hotel in Paphos and the only good point that there was is that two or three of the waiting on staff were friendly and that was the only positive that we noticed during our stay.
At this hotel the staff were rude and this includes the management, if you try to complain then you are either ignored or told to go away and if you order a drink when first sit down for dinner then you get it just as you finish your dinner. Once you’ve ordered a drink then you get it about twenty minutes later, that’s if you get it at all.
The hotel put on entertainment of an evening but all the so called “Entertainment” did was upset the guests. On our second night we went down to the bar to watch their “Comedy” show but the jokes weren’t funny and he forgot most of them and kept going off to read them off a piece of paper at the side of the stage but that was not the only problem the jokes consisted of him shouting language that disgusted all of the adults watching causing them all to stand up and walk out but the audience was full of small children some no older than 4 years old.
The swimming pools had big lumps of dirt in them and people were getting ear infections and rehashes from the pool and also the pool area was not cleaned in the twelve days that we were there.
We went to Cyprus to try to find a holiday home and that is why we stayed at the Avlida because it is owned by a property developer but after staying at their hotel we didn’t even look at their properties.
When we arrived at the hotel we noticed that the shower head was broken so we reported it to the hotel and they said they would change it but we came back from the pool the next day and they had not just changed the shower head they decided to take out the whole shower and put a big hole in the wall and left us with no water until 6 o’clock that night and then they left the bathroom covered in dust and with tiles missing from the walls and the tiles were still missing 11 days later when we left and we had to wait until the next day to get the room cleaned.
After staying at this hotel I can say that it is NOT a 4 star hotel and I have stayed in better 3 star hotels and I would give this hotel 2stars.

Im not sure we went on the same...

Jul 2008, Mrs T Orton

Im not sure we went on the same holiday as some of the reviews that have been written on this page. The hotel was wonderful. The reception was a true 4* reception and I agree that the bedrooms were not up to the same standard as the reception and main bar. They we cleaned every day with clean towels daily and sheets every 3rd day but they were clean and had everything that you needed. I do not go on holiday to inspect the decor I go to relax and enjoy the country that Im in - and that I did.
The food was very good and varying selections were offered daily. I will say that if you are watching the pennies then go all inclusive as the drinks and meals were a little overpriced. In the week that we were there we spent about 10 euros on bottled water from the local supermarket as there was a fridge in the room - do watch when ordering water from the bar it does come out of the tap and although it is safe to drink (More minerals than ours) it can mess with your stomach a little.
There is something on at the hotel every night and they do everything to get you involved but are not overpushy. It is typical FREE entertainment an sometimes a bit cheesey but they tried hard to entertain.
All of the staff spoke fluent English (the manager insisted and the staff were told when they slipped) and did everything they could to help out whatevery the situation. The manager is on site every day and evening and very approachable.
Overall an excellent holiday and I would without a doubt go to this hotel again.

Apr 2008, Kitty!

We'll start at the begining! On arrival the main entrance was lovely! That was just about the only lovely thing! The pool could have killed someone! The rooms were old and shabby and beds were dirty! Dirty carpets everywhere! The only entertainment on a night was an old man playing an organ! That was it! The only night entertainment we had was watching our 10 year old daughter play on her nintendo! Do not go here! We was so bored! The pool area was dirty aswell as dangerous as the filter cover was off and sucked my husband's arm in! It left a huge bruise! What would have happened if it had sucked a childs arm or head in? They could have drowned very easily! On reporting it to staff they couldn't care less! The pool area was infested with ants and other crawling insects! People were offered an upgrade, but that cost £350! As we didn't have enough we had to stay put! The holiday cost £2000! Do not go here!

Ill start with the good points ,...

Apr 2008, Mr R Salisbury

Ill start with the good points , Excellent food , the chef did a amazing carvery every other day ,Can not fault the service from the waiters, chamber maids and the chef .!! epsecially the chef ...did i meantion the chef !!! ?
The downstairs certainly warrants the 4 star rating ..Entertainment was hit and miss ( out of season ) .
Now the down side .... The rooms warrant more like 2 star , old fashioned , mould on grout in bathroom ,Black/grey mould marks on ceiling , paint peeling on walls , no door handle to balcony , only 1 of 4 bars open . could not buy daughter a ice cream from hotel as no facilities open as apparently out of season .Very importantly i booked this hotel as my daughter loves swimming and Avlida has a heated indoor pool, What a joke it would have been easier to get in a bucket of ice ..hence we could not use pool , it was still no warmer after asking staff at reception to heat it. Piped music not working.. not that we wanted it ...Satellite tv...another joke , this consisted of BBC Prime , which was fuzzy , BBC world , which stuck for 3 days and not fixed after being reported , and CNN News .
Childrens out door playground , consisted of a broken slide that could end your child in hospital , and a few plastic houses .
All in all we still had a great holiday but feel that travel agents could point out that certain facilities are not available if you book out of season .

a good hotel, in a quite central...

Apr 2008, Mr B Spencer

a good hotel, in a quite central location, close to tombs of the kings archeological site which is a trully deserved listing in UNESCO, as it is a vast arechological area.
The hotel itself was clean, sparkling throughout. The pool was tucked away at the back, and upon arrival one would find themselves amazed at the interior but wonder where the pool actually is! But it is not a small pool, you just cant see it from the road. All the better because the noise can get quite noisy.
The food was excellent always, not one time was it boring during our week stay, and delicious, but it can add pounds, so if you are worried you can use the indoor pool and gym. we did... well, just the pool really!
And what to say about the staff? lovely people, from senior management to the last helper in the hotel. some of the maids could not speak english but always smiled. Our first encounter with one was when we were looking at our room after she left and when she said "I make clean good?", instead of just replying "yes", we said "perfect" and she said "towel good? hoover good?, bed good?" so the wife again replied "everything is fine dear". Obviously she didnt understand and got the manager to see what we wanted! Note to other travellers, a simple Yes or No will do, really!
Anyway, we had a good holiday at the avlida, and feel that some of the reviews online are by people that are just too fussy. Enjoy your holiday!

Mar 2008, Mrs K Harper

We booked a week at the Avlida for a relaxing break. Unfortunately when we arrived we were greeted as we got out of our taxi by a stressed lady who told us they were overbooked, and told the driver to take us to the Venus Beach up the road.
We later found out the hotel was closed as refurbishment was not complete. We were moved to a very nice beach front hotel (5 star) However we appeared to be one of the lucky ones as other guests were moved to much less pleasant places.
We had a great week despite the fact that the Venus did not usually do AI and were unsure of some aspects as were we as it was our first time.

My friend and I recently went to...
9 / 10
Jan 2008, Miss S.B Birch

My friend and I recently went to Avlida hotel; we found our stay very pleasant. We only had bed and breakfast; the breakfast was fine, plenty of food. Personally I wouldn’t like to go all inclusive because every day the food is pretty much the same and there is not alot to choose from.
The pool area was very nice and relaxing; there were activities to join in such as pool, darts, water polo, water aerobics etc. The only downside to it was that the chair lounges will go by mid-day so if you want to get sunbathing you want to put your towel down just before your breakfast.
The rooms were very basic, they were not modern and they needed refurbishing but I suppose all you’re going to do is sleep there and the beds were very comfortable.
The maids would clean your room every day, people who have said that they only got their rooms cleaned a few times is the complete opposite to when we were there. Once when we had the "please do not disturb" sign on the door at about 2 o'clock they came and cleaned it.
The staff were very friendly and never rude always happy.
Just a word of warning, if you keep food or drink that you have bought and put it in the mini fridge you will be charged 2 Cyprian pounds a day, but you do get a piece of paper informing you of this if you have done it. Also for your air conditioning to work you have a metal key fob which you have to place in a hole thing to get the air con working so it will only work when you’re in the room. I had the idea of separating the key and the key fob so we could permanently leave the key fob in to get the air con, this worked and was very good it kept the room nice and cool sometimes it was even to cold so we turned the air con off.
It was not a four star just a 3, but it was all you needed. The pictures do not give it justice especially the front of building it is much nicer. Would definitely go back.

A good experience overall,...

Nov 2007, Mr R Bennett

A good experience overall, considering some of the reviews online. Myself and the rest of our group feel that none of that can be true. Most of the days we had good weather and the sun terrace pool area was a lot warmer than the main pool, probably because it is not as deep. We had drinks brought to our sun beds and did not notice any difference of behaviour from the waiting staff between all inclusive and non all inclusive guests. The food was also good.
Really we have no bad points to report on: Paphos harbour was a pleasant 20 minute stroll away, the rooms were quite big, lots of English programmes and channels on TV, most of the staff were very attentive.
We returned home happy after a cheap and cheerful holiday.

Oct 2007, Mr J Davies

Just arrived back and have got to put the record straight, everything was fine and we had a great time, as did all the other guests I spoke to.
Reading some of the reviews I was more than worried, but I have got to say this holiday was spot on.
Value you for money, the holiday couldn't be beaten. Some things in the hotel was 4 star others not, but it depends who's doing the ratings, all I would say is go AI and you won't be disappointed.
The food was fine, but people who expect chips with everything may be disappointed, but you can have them for snacks during the day.
Thanks to all the hard working staff at the Avlida who made the holiday for us.

Oct 2007, Mr E Burns

At a good location, the hotel rooms were big, fully equipped (hairdryer, sat. TV etc) and cleaned to perfection daily.
Beautiful, beautiful swimming pool area, excellent use of rock themes and waterfalls made a true atmosphere. It really does not show from the outside that there is something like that inside, must be seen to believe.
Food by the poolside at lunch was convenient as we did not need to wear long trousers; something I wish was kept in the restaurant during the evenings. (Some people insisted on coming in shorts). Waitress service was always with a smile and prompt. All the staff were very good.
The Avlida was an excellent choice and we would recommend to our friends.
