Decent Paris Hotel
We booked this hotel for 3 nights in Paris. The common areas of the hotel are pleasant...recently updated bar and breakfast area. The couches in the reception area need re-upholstered. The rooms are very average, unremarkable, but quite serviceable. Beds were comfortable, bathroom clean. Front desk staff extremely helpful. Decor a bit 1983, but nothing too horrid. The rooms, including the bathrooms, could use an overhaul. Breakfast, although expensive at 15 Euro/person, was quite nice with juices, breads, boiled eggs, yogurts,... more
Nice Staff, decent room
Booked very last minute to go to the dreadded rugby match against the french. But the hotel was very good for paris. I have stayed in much worse in Paris. The staff were friendly and the rooms clean. There is not really anything around the area interms of shopping etc but the number 1 line goes directly up town so its tip top.
Good location
It was very urgent rese'trvation because original booking at another hotel was suddenly canceled due to tourist agent's fault. My concern was just nearby Lyon station for TGV transit. This hotel is just beside with Lyon station then it satisfy my purpose. I think that the price of this hotel (around E 150) is reasonable to consider the location. But this hotel is very standarized so that you may not feel such warm hospitality as tourist accomodation. Transit purpose , very good. For the first stay in Europe,,,, may... more
Great location for the right price
This hotel is adjoining the Gare de Lyon, which is perfect for using public transportation or if you are using one of the many TGV trains that use this as their terminus. As others have noted, the decor is not exactly spectacular and could use some updating, however everything was kept very clean and besides being ugly, the furnishings did not detract from my stay. The room was a decent size, the bed was comfortable, and with so much to do in Paris, why spend all your time in the hotel anyway? Breakfast was decent - baked goods, cereal,... more
Very good value for money
Very nice compared to Mercure hotel in Bercy. VERY centrally located right beside the train station and convenient walk to Bastille and Republique. Excellent staff & service, clean room and big bed for Paris. Quite safe as well. The breakfast was awful - avoid it at all cost indeed. Apart from that, no complaints.
Satisfied with what we paid
I was hesitant after reading the previous reviews on this hotel but was pleasantly surprised. Although the hotel decor left much to be desired (orange everything) and the carpet was not very clean, the bed was comfortable and bathroom clean. It is located right next to the Gare de Lyon Train Station so it was a great starting off point for us to get to any part of the city, either by train or by walking. A walk to the Louvre would only take us 45 minutes. The front desk staff was helpful and nice and we were even able to store our luggage... more
Don't waste your time or money
This place is the pits. Prison-like, horrible orange walls, bare except for a few holes where a picture once hung and slimy looking carpets. Large bathroom but plumbing didn’t work, bath wouldn’t drain. I booked for two nights and almost left after one night. The staff was very nice but couldn’t make up for what was very definitely a pretty gross two-star hotel. I paid $80.00 with Priceline and would never go back!
No no no no no
if you want flashy cheap Vegas style accommodations, stay at this hotel - but if you seek some class and style, stay away! The one redeeming thing is its proximity to the metro though if you are wanting to walk, you don't need that. Pay the extra $10 a night and stay in a smaller, less garish, less loud place in the 5th
Good deal, convient location...
On my annual trips to Paris I usually stay in small, private 3 stars in the 5th or 6th, but due to the Euro/$$ rates, this year prices were up in the $100/$120 range instead of the usual $60-80, so I tried Priceline and had to add the 11th to get a 3 star at my price of $80, which turned out to be the Mecure GdL. This is a lower end chain owned by Acor (they also own the much nicer Sofitels) , so standards are reasonably good. Room was a bit larger than usual, clean and relatively quite, with a long counter typ desk that was very handy.... more
Nice Place, But Get A Check-Out Receipt!
Mercure is part of the Accor Hotels chain that also owns Red Roof Inns and Motel 6 in the US. Mercure gives you all the comforts of an American-style hotel in the heart of Paris. The Mercure at Gare de Lyon is conveniently attached to the TGV high-speed rail station at Gare de Lyon, so it is a perfect stop-over for TGV ticket holders. Rooms are less cramped than the usual European accommodations, with full-featured private baths, cable TV, etc. BUT GET A CHECK-OUT RECEIPT: We reserved our room at the Mercure through Priceline.com, but... more
