We spent two nights in the Sempill Suite at the Witchery to celebrate our silver wedding anniversary. Had an absolutely fantastic time. Staff are welcoming and helpful. The suite is divine with it's gorgeous antique decor. Oozed romance with a capital 'R'. Champagne, chocolates & bath big enough for two!! Lovely continental breakfast served in the delightful sitting room of the suite was surprisingly filling. We had a delicious meal in the beautiful Secret Garden. Again, restaurant staff friendly and attentive, without being overbearing. Food presented beautifully and tasted as good as it looked. Wine list like a novel, but a good range of prices to suit all customers. Our only criticism was that we didn't see much of Edinburgh because we found it so difficult to tear ourselves away from our suite. The weekend was supposed to be a special one-off weekend but we are totally hooked on the Witchery & will definitely be returning.

Booked into the Sempill Suite for 2 nights, this place definately has the wow factor, so many nooks and crannies to explore, this suite is huge, complete with a kitchen, breakfast area, large bathroom and beautiful bedroom, very dark inside with lots of antiques and dimmed lighting, many personal touches to make you stay romantic and special. Everyone should stay at this hotel at least once in their lifetime, guarantee you'll want to go back! Secret Garden restaurant was fantastic although quite pricey

Absolutely fantastic stay - our second visit, (visited last year on honeymoon). We stayed in The Vestry and had dinner in the Secret Garden. Both visits we rate absolutely first class, a fantastically gothic experience that you just won't find anywhere else! The rooms are packed with antiques and quirky furniture, furnishings are velvets in deep reds and golds, walls are decorated with bold, classic colours and victorian patterns, all is geared towards an over-the-top gothic look. Don't come here if you like your hotel room safe and boring! Really friendly staff, exceptional food, we will definitely be back for a third visit and can't wait.

The Witchery by the Castle is situated on the Royal Mile just a couple of hundred yards from the famous Edinburgh Castle. The Hotel is exclusive having just 6 individually decorated suites available, to guests that regularly include Dannii Minogue and Matt Groenig of Simpsons fame. We arrived and were instantly made to feel welcome and at home, our bags taken to our suite and all of the facilities explained. Champagne, Mineral Water and Belgian Chocolates were provided to enhance the romantic ambience.
Each suite is very different, being filled with a mixture of antiques and high tech entertainment systems. The bathroom was enormous, and needed to be because of the capacious Victorian bath and body shower.
Breakfast was served in the room by our designated porter, a lovely lady who could not have done more to attend to our needs. Dinner can be taken either in the Witchery itself, or at the state of the art Towers Restaurant, situated above the Scottish Museum. Both restaurants offered the most exquisite dining experience, again enhanced by attentive staff and a selection of in season, beautifully prepared dishes.
We were truly blessed to be able to enjoy the Witchery and would recommend it to anyone wanting a luxury experience in a wonderful city.

My husband booked the Sempill Suite at the Witchery as a surprise for my 40th Birthday. I was gobsmacked to be staying at the Witchery, never mind a suite. It was absolutely stunning, so romantic and luxurious I was speechless. The bathroom was gorgeous with a huge tub, lovely shower and heated floor, with beautiful products to use. The steps up to the giant antique four poster was really cute. the whole place made you feel as though you had gone back to a period drama (but with all the mod cons including hair straighteners!). The staff were brilliant, so helpful and nothing was too much trouble. We had dinner in the secret garden which was the best food I have tasted, the service there was second to none too, and had a mouthwatering menu.
Would stay there again in a heartbeat, highly recommend it to everyone.
