Great time again (4th time!) Good rooms (I stayed in a double this time, but have stayed in quads before), warm, hot water, shower/bath, secure, key cards, clean linen.
Large bar area for late late night drinking or smoking - pool table, TV, satellite, internet/pc's, board games, DVD player. Located right in the heart of the red light district, about 10 mins walk from central station. Coffee shop right next door.
Fantastic place, keep up the good work. On one last note I stayed 3rd Jan 08 - 5th Jan 08, very reasonably priced. Nice to see the Christmas decorations still up.

I stayed here with my partner for our 3 year anniversary and I was really impressed with the place.
I admit I was a bit worried about staying in a hostel as I heard they can be awful.
However, the bulldog is great it was clean and the staff were cool.
Well apart from the bar girl who kept wandering off to talk to people and it took about 15 mins a time to get a drink, when she eventually notices you stood tapping your nails on the bar, she does come over.
I have only been back 2 days but have already booked here again, this time with a group of 12 mates.
I have caught the Amsterdam bug and I am hooked on the place, its so beautiful (girls in windows aside) and such a lovely place and you really are made to feel at home and not just like a tourist everyone is so friendly in all the coffee shops we went in.
Amsterdam rules!

Stayed at the Bulldog youth hostel for a week recently and was so impressed with the value for money that I decided to complete this survey. The room had about 8 bunk beds with shower and separate toilet and all I can say is that the value for money at 22.00 euros a day was magnificent.
Clean room, sheets and a proper operational hot shower which is often hard to find in hostels. The staff were exceptionally friendly and the dining facilities also excellent. The breakfast was substantial and well presented not like the usual hostel fare.
The location is in the heart of the red light district so shows and window shopping are available within a few minutes walking distance. The quality of window displays has improved over the last few years with the inflow of good quality Eastern European merchandise now on show.
The downside of this, however, is an influx of shadowy Eastern European males skulking around in groups. But, knowing the Dutch, they will have this well under control.
The legalization of prostitution got rid of the pimps and excessive gangsterism, so the Dutch police aren't about to let a horde of dodgy Russian mobsters take over their city. Overall a great experience, my only gripe is that, like the UK, smoking is still allowed in pubs and coffee shops.

I booked a bed here for three days, after which I decided to stay for another two. I went to the reception and, without knowing if I had enough cash, I started looking for money in my pockets. The receptionist asked my what I want. I told her to give me a second, I was looking for something. She asked me again and I replied the same thing, smiling. She asked me for a third time, in a matter of seconds, and then she went completely mad and started yelling and me. She asked for my key and told me I couldn't stay there. I asked her why and she said that she is the manager, and when she asked a question people should answer. I tried to solve the situation, didn't react badly, asked for the manager but nothing worked and, incredibely, I had to leave the hostal. She kept yelling and menacing with calling security. The rest of the staff smiled and asked me to leave. Finally, she handed over my passport (they kept them) and when she realized I was from Chile she said something like "oh, of course, you are latin american". No comments.
I am a non-violent guy who was in Amsterdam to give a short course at the university, and this is one of the more violent and incomprehensible things I've suffer from a receptionist in my life. During my other three days there I saw the staff yelling at people frequently, but I though they were just tired of these stoned people doing crazy things. Now I think it is just because The Bulldog is such a well-known place that they know they will always have people eager to check-in. I don't advise this place to anyone (plus, the showers are quite smelly).
