I am surprised at the reviews, when I went there the place had a worn look about, the staff were pretty apathetic. The restaurants on site are poor. La santa is quite isoalated and it is about a mile to the town. There are about 4 taxis & it is basically a shuttle service... more

For active people Club La Santa has the best sports facilities at any resort we have visited. For our 2 teenage boys, there was always an activity of some description to keep them occupied. Tennis, badminton, football, swimming, kayaking, windsurfing, golf - the list is... more

Just what it says on the tin...
Myself and seven friends have just returned from a week at CLS. It was my first time but some of the others had been before. We went primarily for the cycling but the facilities allowed for so much more. Everyone was really helpful, particularly in Sports Booking on our first morning when it became apparent that the English booking agents had made a hash of our bike hire arrangements. My only real criticism, a minor one, is the lack of adherence to the quiet after midnight rule. The resort seems to entertain groups of young people, apparently with little if any supervision, who were noisy until the early hours with seemingly no intervention from the 'security'. It made for some poor nights of sleep. Some reviews have been critical of the food but I'd have to disagree. The food in the complex was both tasty and reasonably priced. Make sure that you don't miss out on La Santa village though, the Chinese restaurant in particular was outstanding - I am blessed with an appetite akin to a small country but was completely stuffed at the end...before dessert! On the whole a great base for training. Make sure you pay the 50 euro weeks ticket for the Wellness Centre, we used it at least once a day and it provided an invaluable recovery from the exertions of the holiday.
Brilliant Resort!!!
Arrived at Club La Santa on 24 January 2008. The resort is based within the Tinajo area which is a secluded area within the north sector of the island. Weather is slightly cooler than the Playa Blanca area which is understandable because of the water activities available at the resort - surfing etc. Accommodation is average. You have to pay for a television but if you are staying here because you want an activity based holiday then you will not require one. Upon arrival we checked in and went to the Sports Booking office. Hand over your passport and you receive a token which you hand in everytime you require sports equipment. Just make sure you don't loose your token as you will be charged 20 Euros. Facilities available are fantastic. Badminton, squash and tennis courts. Fitness centre and a weekly programme of various activities - (Tai Chi, yoga, circuits, step and lots more), olympic heated outdoor pool and running track. There is also a spa called the Wellness Centre. You pay 50 Euros per person and you can use the Spa including sauna, steam room, jacuzzi, thermal bath and freezing cold plunge pool. The fee is for a weeks usage. There are additional services which you pay for like massage. Whilst I was there I had a Body Massage. Being a qualified Swedish Body Masseur I was disappointed with this particular service, however, I would greatly recommend the Shiatsu and Reflexology massage. They were fantastic!!! Costs for the above vary from 25-65 Euros for upto 50 minutes. I was also very impressed with food and drink costs. I assumed with all the restaurants and bars based on site that the costs would be more than average. This is certainly not the case!! My favourite place for great food and drink was the Pool Bar. Fantastic food and drink. Try the fruit shakes!! Try the Steak!!! The only restaurant I did not like was La Boudacia. The food I had was not upto scratch, however this could have been down to chef on night etc but each to their own!! If booking a holiday here please note that Club La Santa have a transfer service from and to the airport. I did not know this and booked a hire car for the entire duration from the airport. Costs are approx 5-8 Euros per person each way. They also have a hire car service based on site so if you wish to venture out you have the option. You can also hire bikes - (pedal bikes). Just hand in your token and you get a bike. Overall I know accommodation is more expensive than most of the hotels on the island, however, you will certainly not get a complex where 90% of activities are all included. Great Holiday!!! Thinking of getting a timeshare which are very cheap!! Around 2-5K for a 10 year timeshare.
Fantastic place
CLS is fantastic if you want a sporty holiday where you pay a reaspnable price that covers most activities (e.g. tennis, football, badmington, squash, loads of different fitness classes, free instruction classes in many sports ...etc..) and take part in various events/competitions (from trilathlon to road biking to rackets sports). There is a packed program of events everyday. Diving is about 40-45E per dive and is a bit basic but the wreck dive is good and the staff excellent. Its a large complex tastefully put together with a few bars and eating places. These get a hard press from others. They are more than acceptable but no they arent gourmet (my fave was the pool bar). We had breakfast included which was ok as its a buffet with bacon/eggs thru to museli and fruit only gripe there was the beans and eggs were often cold! Evening entertainment is a bit holiday campish but there are kids there so maybe understandable and easily avoided. Rooms are fine average-good holiday apartment fair Our only gripe was the poor service by the UK based agent for CLS (poor/inconsitent info re ticket dispatching and not the most attuned to customer service (eg if you havent received your tix the day before it can put you on edge but we were trated as if if we were a nuisance (and this was in the context of inconistent info fm them!) But ignore that because when you get there its a wonderful place for a sporty fun holiday.
We keep going back there !
Club La Santa is unique in offering a very wide range of top-class sporting facilities within the overall package cost. Olympic size swimming pool, tennis courts, squash, badminton, football, volleyball, windsurfing, cycling (road &mtb), fitness centre, athletics stadium, boxing ring etc. etc., as well as a raft of aerobics, pilates and similar classes. You can use them as much or as little as you like, and at any level from beginner to international standard ! There's also a large leisure pool and plenty of sunbeds for those who want to just relax. Also on site is a Dive Centre and a Wellness Centre (jacuzzi, steam baths etc) which you have to pay extra for. The apartments are basic, but clean and adequate - most time is spent outside ! There are several on-site eating facilities - and a number of excellent value-for-money restaurants in the local village, which is within walking distance. There is a disco on-site, and a couple of hours of live entertainment most evenings in the central square. The site is in an isolated and unspoilt part of the island, but trips are run each week to places of interest elsewhere on Lanzarote. We have been visiting Club La Santa every year since 1985, and it still keeps us happy and interested. Thoroughly recommended for anyone who wants to do something other than lie in the sun all day and party all night.
Atlantico Restaurant review
I've seen so many people criticising the ATLANTICO RESTAURANT that I've decided to give the other point of view. The Atlantico is an all-you-can eat self-service restaurant. You can pay per meal, which was 15 euros for dinner and 9.5 euros for breakfast, or you can pay 154 euros for half-board per week, which restricts you to this restaurant. Wine is extra (I forget how much), but it's not compulsory! Half-board only saves you 17.5 euros per week, so if you want the option of skipping some meals, it's better to pay per meal. QUANTITY: Atlantico scores brilliantly on quantity. You can literally eat until you're full. I was with a group, and one member of my group, from another apartment, who had not paid for half-board, joined us for dinner on the last night. She said she wished she'd eaten there regularly. She mentioned that she'd eaten at one of the other restaurants the previous evening, it had been about 20 euros (including wine), with usual waiter service, and she'd felt hungry afterwards. (And she's only about 8 stone, so it can't take much to fill her up!) VARIETY: Atlantico scores well on variety. For starter, there's soup and several varieties of salad, including as much tuna or cheese as you can eat. For main course, there were 2 or 3 choices of fish, 2 or 3 of meat, and 2 or 3 vegetarian. And plenty of vegetables. For sweet, there was very little variety … I got the impression the sports club didn't really approve of sweets. QUALITY: Atlantico scores so-so on quality. Doesn't bother me … I don't go to a sports club for its gourmet qualities. The starters were good quality, the main courses were so-so, and the sweets were fairly poor. BREAKFAST: I haven't mentioned breakfast yet. To be honest, breakfast is a bit of a haze. But I didn't miss any breakfasts, and I never had to top-up with snacks before dinner, so again the quantity must have been brilliant, and who cares about quality at that time in the morning?! It's worth 9.5 euros just to avoid the shopping the the getting up early to prepare it the washing-up the … LA SANTA RESTAURANT (OUTSIDE THE COMPLEX): Breathe-and-Stop said "Take a taxi to La Santa Restaurant for 3 euros and have a fantastic meal for average price of 17 euros". I never heard of that … but it certainly sounds worth trying! CONCLUSION: Don't pay for half-board. Do have breakfast in the Atlantico every day, if you get up in time. Do have dinner in the Atlantico, unless you want to treat yourself, or unless you're a gourmet anyway. Try the outside restaurant at least once.
Fantastic Sport Facilities!
The complex has fantastic facilities for sport lovers. Track, olympic size pool, badminton courts, 10 tennis courts, basket ball pitch, 5aside pitch, water sports, top of the range bikes, boxing ring, gymnasium, table tennis and more. You can do as much or as little. You can do tournaments such as badminton and triathalons. You can learn to swim. You can go snorkel, diving and windsailing. The spa is fantastic 8 euros a day. You paid separately for treatments such as relax, sport massage you can you have shiatsu or reflexology. There is hydromassage baths. The complex is huge. Owned by the Danish. You have Danish, Germans and English as the main people who stay there. There is a diving board and separete kids pool. There is enough loungers for everyone. The pool bar serves good lasagne, salads, fantastic icecream and juice bar. The Atlantic restaurant is poor so don't do half board. Take a taxi to La Santa Restaurant for 3 euros and have a fantastic meal for average price of 17 euros. There is 6 pool tables in the Green bar. All restaurants close early on the complex so you need to eat by 10 pm. The bar closes at 11 pm which we found was too early but there is a club on the complex. Most staff and taxi drivers spoke English. I would recommend this complex for all ages, families and singles. There is a photographer who takes pictures which you can purchase. You can get the pictures in a fridge magnet or key ring. The only minus was we found cockroaches in our appartment. There is no a/c so this might attract them. Despite no a/c the rooms were really cool. There is no TV. The cleaner came to us daily and gave us clean towels. There is also a supermarket on site that sells lovely fresh bread, baguettes and pastries.
Good fun
Went on a school trip to Club La Santa, and had a great time. Stayed in a standard apartment which was ideal. The food was great and the various options for lunch and dinner (restaurant wise) was very good. The facilities are great and there is something to keep everyone busy. The staff were very friendly and helpful.
A refreshing change
I recently visited Club La Santa (Feb-March) with my partner who is a triathlete. I was initially slightly unsure as I am quite sporty (running, squash, weights) but not to the level that I presumed the camp was aimed. I had fears that the camp would be run down and exploitative due to it's remote location and uniqueness, not to mention the relative cheapness of the package. I was pleasantly surpised, I am pleased to say. There are training programs and facilities for the more dedicated sportsperson as well as the casual runner, swimmer, etc. My partner took part in the Joe Beer tri program which she really enjoyed and got a lot from. I did a few 10k's, a squash tournament and went to the gym a few times. This might seem like the last thing you would want to do on holiday, but it was so refreshing to come back from holiday in better shape than when we left. The environment is one which encourages activity, but is friendly and supportive of all abilities. The apartments are simple but clean, the facilities are up to date and in a good state of repair, the staff are helpful and friendly, the food was fresh and tasty (we ate in la bottega and the pool bar). The remoteness of the resort makes you feel like you are at an exclusive high-rollers retreat - it really makes you feel like you have gotten away from it all. Recommended for the mildly sporty to the professional athlete. This is not lanzargrotty!
Club La Santa: great sport, very poor food
We have just returned from one week at Club La Santa. First the good news. The Sports facilities are excellent and include 10 tennis courts, 5 squash courts, 6 badminton courts, 2 beach volleyball courts, a swimming pool, a football pitch, a running track, a golf practice area, and a wind surfing ‘lake’. Most of these are bookable one or two days in advance and each week the staff provide a free one-hour lesson in each sport. These group lessons are offered at beginner, intermediate, and advance levels and you can buy additional individual lessons as required (these cost 24 euros per hour). In addition to the lessons, there are also weekly tournaments and these are also at the three different levels (beginner, intermediate, and advanced). There’s also a gym and a varied programme of other activities (see the Club La Santa website for details). On the down side are the hotel’s location - in the middle of nowhere so you really need a car to get around the island - and, worst of all, the food. Each apartment includes a small kitchen area where meals can be prepared but ants were a persistent problem in our apartment and did not encourage food preparation. We had paid a £110 per person supplement for half-board and, as this was about what we’ve paid elsewhere (in Tenerife and Portugal), we were expecting buffet meals to same sort of standard we’ve found elsewhere. However, we were very disappointed. Although the hotel has several restaurants, only the buffet-style ‘Atlantico’ restaurant is available to those on half-board (all the others are ‘a la carte’ and are considerably more expensive). The food in the Atlantico is woeful both in quality and choice. Virtually all the fruit was tinned and main courses had a nasty habit of turning up again the next day in a lasagne. Not surprisingly, the Atlantico is not at all busy but you’re either faced with self-catering and the ants, a very poor Atlantico, or an expensive ‘a la carte’ meal. Unfortunately, Club La Santa has a monopoly in terms of the variety of sports activities it offers so if you want the sport I’m afraid that there’s no easy solution to the catering problem. And if you’ve ever tried to book during the school holidays you’ll know that it is a very popular hotel.
excellent sports camp
I have been to club la santa about 6 times,i go twice a year. For anyone who doesn`t know anything about the resort,it is located on the west side of the island. It takes 30 mins from the airport. It is quite an exclusive resort as it is not available to book it thru a travel agent, you have to book by phone directly with the hotel. The complex is like a little village,it must have at least 500 apartments with some with sea views. It is ultimately a sports resort which attracts many sportsman from track and field to tennis players. It is used as apre warm up for their competetions. It hosts many training weeks where anyone can take part in,from swimming to aerobics, all taken by top instructors from around the world. The price you pay for the apartment includes the sports pass which allows you to do any sport free of charge. Over all it is a great place to stay as well as keeping fit in the lanzarote sun.
