The Mecenate is a very good hotel for the price. Averaging about £80 per night for a family room. It is centrally located and within easy walking distance of all the well known tourist attractions.
It is also a five minutes walk from the termini station, making it ideal for airport transfers. The staff were friendly & polite and the rooms & corridors were spotlessly clean and well appointed. Continental breakfast on the roof terrace was excellent, mainly for the view of the piazza Maria Maggiore and the rest of the city.
Be careful of the hotel's bar prices, as they go up sharply on weekends.
Other reviews suggest that the hotel is located in a run-down part of the city and that it is too close to the street beggars around the termini. We didn't find this to be the case at all.

The Mecenate Palace, what can we say, we were ripped off by Easyjet hotels Averaging about £160 per night for a Double room (2 people), we booked it in Jan 2006. It is centrally located and within easy walking distance of all the well known tourist attractions.
It is also a five minute walk from the termini station, making it ideal for airport transfers. The staff were friendly & polite and the rooms & corridors were clean and well appointed, radio station three plays English speaking songs. Continental breakfast on the roof terrace was ok, mainly for the view of the piazza Maria Maggiore and the rest of the city on a good day.
Rooms are small for the price you pay for them, and very dark even with shutters open, we had a great view of the back of the hotel, which was not the nicest I’ve seen before. TV only English speaking has CNN or Eurosport - which both of them did not interest me or my wife
Direction to hotel: - come out of station, Mc Donald's will be in front of you take your first rod to your right of it "Via Gioberti" go down to the bottom of it and you come to a department store "Upim" at the corner go directly across the sqe but to the left you will see a new coffee shop with tables/chairs outside it that is the corner of the Hotel "Via Carlo Alberto" road, you will see flags half way down the front of the building walk across the crossing and between the tables/chairs of the coffee and next to this you will be a the hotel, if by chance like we did you come out of station and take the "Via Cavour" come to the bottom of this road until you reach the large Palace you will know it as it has around 100 steps leading up to this palace, take that road going upwards, therefore the Maggiore palace will be on your right side, go to the back of it and you will see the new coffee shop at the corner.
