Great Holiday and Hotel

First time going to Grenada with my fiance and his family who are from St Georges's.Went for two weeks and spent a week at the Rex Hotel.Had the best time ever and really enjoyed my time there, so much so that I cant wait to go back and will most definately book a longer stay in the hotel, maybe two weeks next time around. The staff were very very friendly and welcoming and made sure that you had all you needed and wanted whilst there. Although the tiles in the pool were loose and the pool was closed for a day we still had plenty to do and enjoyed the facilities. The only reason I have rated the hotel an 8 is because of entertainment, I felt that there was not nearly enough entertainment at the hotel and unless you were leaving the complex in the evening you would be very bored as all there was for entertainment was the bar. However one night the hotel did have a steel band which were fantastic but that only left you wanting more entertainment. Will most definately be booking the Rex again and cant wait to go back there.

Great hotel clean & tidy, staff are freindly. But the food is boaring, but my daughter enjoyed breakfast fesh fruit every mornin & fry ups if you like aswell.A large hotel ideal for families and couples, you will feel safe lots of security especially if you got kids. Only one pool for a such a large hotel, beach is right on resort but not very nice but granan beach is just 10mins down on a bus. Best beach i have ever been to (wonderfull) all inclusive get free canooing and snokerling included on rex beach.
Overall great hotel, market can be very hot make sure you get out early & stockup on fluids.

Having just returned from our holiday after a wonderful 2 weeks in this resort,Staff were so helpful, the resort was clean and beautiful views all around, could not have had better, I would certainly recommend this holiday to anyone.
We had entertainment each night and thoroughly enjoyed it.
I am hoping to get back there someday and see a bit more of the wonderful island.

Located near to the airport, but no problem with noise, it is sited in its own spacious and well kept grounds with its own beach. Watersports facilities are good and one end of the beach is excellent for snorkelling due to reef being close inshore. Many of the other hotels are on Grand Anse beach, which is a public beach, so not very private. In my opinion, the Greanadian Rex offers by far the best beach facilities. Hotel rooms are comfortable and clean, although they are now looking a bit tired and could do with a refurb. Staff are all pleasant and extremely helpful. We tend to use hotels just as a base and do not eat in them or stay in at night for the organised entertainment, so cannot comment on these facilities. For eating out, the best is Rhodes at the Calabash. Others worth a visit are the Red Crab and True Blue. Most retaurants are based in the local hotels and it is advisable to book. Car hire recommended if staying at the grenadian rex

Food reminiscent of school dinners. Lack of attention to detail.
Poorly designed hotel:loads of steps, airless dining room.
Staff pleasant but very poorly managed with staff lacking motivation.
If you like Butlins this is for you, however if you require any degree of sophistication do not go, this hotel in the main caters for the lager and tattoo karaoke types!

We found this a very pleasant hotel...

We found this a very pleasant hotel in a lovely setting and a good choice for me and my 14-year-old son on a week's break. It was our first visit to the Caribbean so we had high expectations and we weren't disappointed. It is within walking distance from the airport - handy for the cash point there - but there is very little noise from the planes and flights are few and far between. The staff are friendly and accommodating as well as being courteous and efficient.
Rooms are reasonably spacious, bright and clean. The sea view rooms are worth having for the glorious view across the hotel grounds to the bay beyond and the lights of St Georges. It was a sight to lift your spirits each morning and to savour with a rum punch by candlelight on the balcony at night. That said, the hillside room we saw was also very nice. It had the same amenities: TV, hairdryer etc. just minus the bath. The balcony had a partial sea view to the west so you could sit out and watch the sunset over the sea.
Taxis are relatively expensive - about £10 each way to St Georges - and there are not many options for eating out without transport - or even with - as most tourism is very hotel-based here. Don't expect to find a lot of restaurants, bars etc. without going to the hotels.
There may be more options for eating out at Grand Anse beach but at the Rex there was only one nearby restaurant, the Aquarium. Fortunately this beachside restaurant is utterly charming and only a 5 minute walk down the beach from the Rex. We ate there several times for lunch and dinner and although the food was not especially thrilling, the setting - watching the waves through the palm trees - is idyllic, both in the daytime and at night. Worth a break from the hotel dining room even if you are all-inclusive.
We also took a taxi one night to the True Blue Bay restaurant which is quite near, on the other side of the airport peninsular. This had a charming waterside setting but the food was more expensive and a lot less varied than at the Aquarium. Good if you only like fish!
The food at the Rex was quite tasty and varied but having to trawl around buffet tables in a fairly brightly-lit dining room to get your dinner didn't really appeal to me and my son was not tempted by many of the dishes. The "full buffet" is quite expensive (£40 for two) if you only want a light meal so we took the option of just paying for what we had. This means you have to recite the contents of your dinner to the staff afterwards, which makes it all rather more like a school dinner experience than a relaxing evening out.
We were surprised how empty the beaches were, especially as we traveled in the UK school holidays in the run-up to Easter. The one outside the hotel was virtually deserted apart from a few people in sun loungers under the trees. There are low rocks along some of the shoreline but still plenty of places which are sandy underfoot and good for swimming. There is a fabulous view of the sunset from the beach. Overall, I preferred Grand Anse beach which was also surprisingly empty - great for us as it is a fabulous place to swim.
Check out the notice board by the Rex restaurants which has details of entertainment, the manager's welcome party and a free shuttle bus to St. Georges. We didn't find this board until our last day! Same goes for the gift shop under the pool complex.
A word of warning when you are booking excursions. These are almost always quoted in US dollars, not EC dollars. They don't say this so you may end up paying 3 times as much as you expected!
We negotiated a price with one of the taxi drivers at the hotel to take us on a customized tour of the parts of the island we wanted to see, which can be less expensive and is of course more convenient. For plant lovers I recommend the Bay Gardens and to a lesser extent the Laura Spice Garden. The guided tours showing the uses of the different plants were fascinating and fun and really added to the experience. Laura Spice was looking rather desert-like when we were there in the middle of the dry season but was nevertheless worth going to.
The climate is ideal as you can be cool in the shade and there is always a breeze but it was blissfully warm in the evenings in the lightest summer clothes.
I would recommend the Rex and Grenada for a relaxing holiday in a beautiful location.

We have just returned back from our first visit to Grenada after booking with Justcaribbean who I must say were great from start to finish. We flew Excel Business Class, which was fantastic value and great service. Overall the holiday was one of the best to the Caribbean.
We chose The Grenadian by rex as we didn't want to be on the main Grandse Anse Beach. We were very happen that we had made the right choice when we got there. The all inclusive option was great and the food excellent, with lots of choice. The cocktails were strong and very good indeed. Our room was nice and comfortable and the maids kept it clean and tidy, with lovely sea views.
After talking to other UK guests we did get a good deal by booking about 3 months before. Grenada is a lovely island and the people are very friendly, the weather fab and our stay was one of the best we have had in recent years. We will be back soon.

Good all round hotel for those with a family. The hotel encompasses a children’s club and a fair sized pool. All of the staff are extremely friendly and helpful. The food is fairly average and only on a buffet basis unless you pay.
All of the internal rooms in the hotel are non-smoking although they are fairly relaxed about this outside.
Beach is excellent and clean and the hotel feels extremely safe for children.
