" A group of friends and myself went to... "

A group of friends and myself went to our annual Christmas Market pilgrimage to Germany.

This year we went to Hamburg and Bremen. Hamburg is a vibrant city and had plenty of top named shops in the city centre for the shopaholics. There were three Christmas markets to browse selling many original items and also plenty of food and drink. The Eierpunch is to be recommended.

A trip around the huge harbour offers a different view of the city and we saw a wonderful sunset. As we were travelling by coach a tour guide joined us and we had a tour of the city with a commentary in English which showed us the different facets to the city from the Billionaires houses to the red light district. Our hotel was situated about 45 minutes from the city centre in a quiet residential area right by some local shops and was excellent value.

We had half board and the breakfast was plentiful with a choice of hot and cold dishes and as much of anything that you could eat. Evening meal was a set menu but if there was something you didn’t like as long as you informed the staff before service commenced it was no problem to cook something different. All the staff spoke English and were very friendly and helpful.

The rooms were of a good size and very clean and comfortable with room service and clean towels every day. It also had tea making facilities which is a rarity in Germany. As usual the Germans themselves were very helpful whilst shopping and always put us to shame by speaking English to us although we do try to use our few words when we can.

Overall and excellent break and great value for money. We hope to go back again and would recommend this holiday to anyone. Do bear in mind it is a coach holiday therefore it does mean a long time travelling though.
