Confusing.... Hotel...Time share???
from tonyjane
I love Marriott. I was asked with my partner as a Marriott rewards member to visit for 4 nights but participate in the Marriott Vacation Club International scheme. I don't understand what this hotel wants to be.Other reviewers are annoyed (as I would be) as everyone seems to be on a cut price dealt o sbe sold a time share. If I had booked a €240 per night room I would be somewhat hacked off knowing the person next door had a room at €50. I think marriott are cheapening their excellent brand by allowing even the slightest suggestion of 'timeshare' into their vast experience. This is a confusion and would deter/annotytravellers who have booked one or the other options. Saying that, the hotel is lovely, clean and , I would say, room wise, pretty much five star. The facilities however are not. Advertised are four, even maybe five restaurants.Depending on thew time of year, you are down to maybe 2. We were told three, however one was a restauarant with a bar attached (the bar was 'another' restaurant), and the other was basically a fast food golf clubhouse. There is nothing for miles. We had a hire car luckily but had to drive out to Ca'n Pastilla to even get close to a beachfront restaurant (a good 20 mins drive. dunno what in a cab but it ups your spend per night by another €50 for sure). Minibar wasOK priced, decent TV, nice rooms, good heating/aircon, clean bathrooms, generally fine, but miles away from a town, poor restaurants and very overpriced. I hate to think what the cost for a meal would have been if we had our three kids 11, 12 and 13. €34 euro for the buffet x 5 = €170 without drinks!!! wow, would you really when the average kid has one burger and 7 chips!! The golf thing is very prevalent. Its golf, golf and golf. Everything is golf. Start feeling like a leper if you don't come out of your room with a set of clubs. ' Oh you don't play, what are you doing here kinda thing. Now being unkind, its a fine hotel with lovely rooms, but outside the rooms there is a strange alien like feeling like, why are we here, and why are the other people here, and what are they all paying, and are they villa people, timeshare people, normal people just paying for a break from the internet. It seems its s ahowhouse for the Vacation club punters, and even though its not advertised, its noticed by all.
Beautiful Hotel / Villas - perfect for families
from BIGMEK
Ok, as a Marriott Rewards Member I received a offer to visit the Marriott Vacation Club Son Antem Llucmajor on Mallorca. But to be honest it was worth the money. For my family and me (we have two kids 4 and 10 years old) the offer for the Villa with two bedrooms, Kitchen, two Bathrooms was perfect. Lots of room, Garden, BBQ Grill, Parking in front of the Villas. The location is very quiet with two golf cources, Tennis courts, Spa, Indoor/Outdoor Pools and so on. Huge area. I am not a Golf player, tried it a few times, but no my sport. But the whole Resort is very nice. Friendly staff that speaks many languages. Internet access possible, Car rental onsite. Restaurants, little supermarket. Easy to find from the MA-19 Highway (exit 20 or 22) only 15 minutes away from the airport, if you have no rental car a Taxi costs about 27 Euros (February 2009). If you want to rent a car you can use SIXT at the Hotel itself. Mallorca is a beautiful island and the temperatures in February are mild ( about 12 -16 C) The almond blossom is taking place. Of course no beach weather but Mallorca is huge and you have enough places to go. The city of Palma is about 20-25 minutes away. If you just want to relax you can stay at the Hotel or the VIllas and use the Spa, pools (heated in/outside) and just enjoy the resort. The Hotel staff will try to help you in any situation. The Villas are nice and clean. They are renovated each year and up to date teechnically. Our villa still had old style TVs (one in the living room and one in each of the bedrooms) , but some Villas already have Flat TVs. We had HIFI set from Sony ( MP3, CD, Cassette) and a Sony DVD Player. A fully equipped kitchen (oven, Microwave, Fridge, Nespresso Coffeemachine, normal Coffeemachine, waterheater). Main Bath with Jacuzzi and second bath with a huge Shower. The stay was very pleasant and relaxing. The Heating/Airconditon was quiet. Since the nights were still cold we had nice temperatures. Perfect for families. Up to six persons can stay in this type of Villa. There are also 3 Bedroom Villas for 8 people. Flights are from all around europe for a few Euros to Mallorca. Also Ferries from Barcelona and Valencia are available. Daytrips to the other Islands are possible. Mallorca offers a lot from hiking, bycicle, diving, sailing and so on. We can highly recommend this Hotel Resort.
Great spa + concierge lady

We use to spend a few weeks at the resort every year and the staff is getting better and better!! The girls at the Spa were as friendly as always. The activity desk has improved very much, she just made our holidays unforgettable! I strongly recommend this luxurious resort to all !!!
NOT at MARRIOTT's Standards!
from TiredWorldTraveler
As an Owner of 2 Marriott Vacation Club (MVC) timeshares, I have come to expect great things at the MVC properties. This one misses the mark by a few kilometers! The staff here has a long way to go in the service department. MAIN LOBBY: There was no doorman or bell staff present upon our arrival. The front doors are heavy wood doors that swing both ways. As I pushed the door open, an elderly woman with a young child were approaching from the other side. I hit them with the heavy door, knocking down the old lady & pushing the door over the top of the chilld's foot. If this child had been wearing sandals or was barefoot, I would have torn the flesh from his foot and shattered his bones. These doors need to be staffed, automatic, or modified to swing ONE-WAY with a speak-easy viewing window. Someone can still get hurt with the solid door swinging one direction. LOST RESERVATIONS: At check-in the staff could not locate our reservations. I was not offered a drink, while I was forced to wait over 1/2 hour while they tried to located their heads. I had to go out to my car, & rummage through my luggage to find my reservation number. Seems that their computer does not have the ability to search all fields for a name or identifier. They also did not have my Marriott's Reward number on file, though I am at the Platinum Level. NO INTERNET: After locating our Villa, I could not find the advertised FREE ADLS internet jack. A call to the front desk, got some lame excuse that "we're changing internet service providers." The Villas WERE NEVER WIRED FOR INTERNET! Turns out that some idiot forgot to wire the buildings when they were built! Do you think that we're stupid? The old provider came & ripped out the wiring & the data jacks from the walls? Did they bother to advise us of the lack of internet at check-in? NOOOO. Instead I had to trek back to the front deck & provide a $400E deposit for the use of a free broadband USB modem. Back to the Villa to discover that it did not contain the necessary Macintosh software. I had to bring my Mac to their business center, hardwire it to the internet, & download on-line software. Big time hassle that could have been avoided, had they OPENED their mouths and advised me at check-in! PARKING: The access road to our Villa, passes by the front of the Golf Clubhouse & Day Spa. They do not control the parking in the posted NO PARKING zones in front of these buildings. As a result the street is congested with vehicles on both sides of a narrow drive. 2 vehicles cannot pass on the drive with ANY cars parked illegally. There is a parking lot on the side of the buildings, but the staff does not enforce the no parking zones. As a result, guests at the villas, are forced to back-up, drive on the sidewalk, and jocky for position on the access road. The front desk gave me the royal blow-off when I asked them what could be done. I just hope that we did not need a fire truck or ambulance at our end of the property, as they could not get through. MAINTENANCE STAFF: After a brief power outage, our oven & stove would not work. As it turns out, the clock must be set on the stove. Of course this was not mentioned in the Villa's appliance instruction manual. But a call to the front desk, had a maintenance man in our kitchen, literally within 5 minutes! ACCOMMODATIONS: The Villas are only a few years old. Being so new, one would have expected wall hangings & pictures on the bedroom & hallway walls. Sound echoed badly in the stairwell & entry, as the walls are plaster & the floors terracotta tile. They need to install some fabrics to absorb the sounds. The terracotta floors are FREEZING in the winter mornings. These units should have had radiant heat installed under the floors. A less expensive solution, would be to install rugs & runners on the stairs. This would also help with the sound issue! Door locks - there are no locks on the bedroom doors. Families with young children should not expect any privacy. But, they did have the foresight to put locks on the bathroom doors (even the master bathroom door) - go figure! The pools are not heated during the "off season." The only heated pool is the indoor/outdoor pool at the Day Spa building. But, it has rules about children using this pool. Not so kid friendly!
Nice, but something missing. Not 5 star.
from Asgaurd_NL
Nice hotel, but only that. I wouldn't think it quite hits Marriott's standards. Actually travelled there as part of a review package to see their villas on site and while the villas were beautiful and certainly appeared attractive, we just couldn't shake the lack of wow-factor of any kind at the site. I would agree with other reviewers that the hotel has seen better days, and that the maintenance hasn't been kept up to a suitable degree. No offence to the locals, but going on the state of the nearby town Llucmajor I can understand why the approach may be somewhat less than that of the Marriott norm. Rooms were ok. We had a ground floor room with double doors opening out on to common grassy area. Nice touch, but the turf was badly waterlogged so it took from the experience. Breakfast buffet has to have been one of the nicest I've been to in years with a vastly extensive selection on offer, including cava! While we didn't get the opportunity to eat at the a la carte restaurant, the bar food and club restaurant have effectively the same menus and I'd agree with other reviewers that they fall well short of 5 star, even for casual food. That said, staff were friendly and the hotel in general was quite tidy, however once again not a 5 star hotel, and something stale about the atmosphere, which is unfortunate as otherwise we'd have bought.
Overpaid and underperformed
from jacuae
GENERAL: Usually you can't get wrong with 5 Star Hotels and Marriotts. This one does not deserve the 5 Stars. The Hotel needs to be renovated. It looks old.The rooms are extremly clairaudient. FOOD:There are only 2 Restaurants. If you don't like "fast food - oily type of fried food" there is actually only one Restaurant which gives the choice of buffet or à la carte. The à la carte is very limited that you get bored of eating at the Hotel after 3 days. SERVICE:The service was totally below a "5 Star" as the Marriott Club filled the Hotel with "cheap sales packages" so the Hotel was full and the staff overstrained. KIDS: If you do not have a family - do not go there. It is full of families with kids and babies. Therefore the noise level is accordingly. GOLF: The golf courses have definitely seen better times and are not well looked after. SPORT: The only good thing is the Gym/Fitnessroom and the personal trainers (but this is an outsourced company and not managed by the Marriotts) CONCLUSION: I would not go back. And I feel totally ripped off as I was one of few who paid the full price where a lot of guests were on this Marriotts vacation club special deal.
Nice stay though whole place lacked atmosphere
from A TripAdvisor Member
Stayed - family of 3 in a villa on the complex. Everything as expected in the Marriot resort - clean/spotless, lovely accomodation. However, like the Marriot Paris resort there was something not quite right..it was a lack of atmosphere. If Marriot could inject some fresh ideas into the place i'm sure there would be a better feeling. We had 3 days, 7 or 10 would have just dragged, however we moved to Alcudia for the next 7 days and had a great time. Enjoy the place if you are a golfer, restaurant buffet food excellent. Middle of no where so hire a car!!
rather 3 than 5 star - Marriott won't see me again

We' ve had suite 215 and intendet to stay a week. However, our stay was so unsatisfactory that we returned home after two nights only. Room: although explicitly asking for a non-smoker room, we were given a smoker room. The room was not really clean, i.e. bathroom, and we've found stuff from the previous guests. The pacifier that we've found under the drawing desk was still there on the 3rd day. Not enough towels in the bath. The showerhead is turned towards the stall's door, meaning that the whole bathroom is an inch under water after each shower. Pool towels: only two in the room and no way of exchanging them since there are no towels at the pool. No turn-down service at night and the bedsheets are changed only every 3 days, unless you specifically ask for it - for me this is unthinkable for a 5 star resort. Internet access in the room is by cable only and costs 15 Euro a day. Bring your mobile phone with you or you will be charged 3 Euro a minute for calls within Europe, 8 Euro for overseas (the Spanish phone companies charge around 20c per minute for calls to Australia). Room service was swift. However, the caprese salad was inedible as the tomatoes were half green and the burger had chunks of cartilage. The Spa's restaurant has the charme of a student's cafeteria, including grease stained tables; the main restaurant offers mediocre quality at a rather steep price. The buffets are of a decent size but in my eyes of 2nd grade food quality. Breakfast ist til 11 but the buffet will not be replenished after about 10:15 (no more water glasses or plates for example) and the waiters will start removing the buffet around 10:50). There are two golf courses: West and East. We've played only the East course. The first three holes were swampy, most greens were bumpy and poorly kept. If you've come for golfing, you need to have a car in order to play other courses as well since the East course is not too challenging. As our flight was due in the early evening, we've asked twice to make sure that a late check-out (2 p.m.) would be possible. Mind you: late check-out, even when the hotel is half empty, carries a fee. My wife was looking forward to have a midday nap. That was made impossible by receiving four (!) phone calls between 11:45 and 12:30 asking us to move out of the room. Marriott has its own time-share concept (MVCI) and you'll be asked at check-in to participate in a sales pitch. My overall impression is that Marriott has its priorities wrong and that our problems were not a case of bad luck but rather systematic - the guest is a cost factor, not the center of their efforts. So my advice is: if you're looking for a luxury golf resort with decent service and good food, there are definitely better offers around.
Fantastic short break
from TLWMiltonKeynes
Fed up with the English summer we were looking for some sunshine for a few days. This hotel ticked every box for us, short flight ,short transfer (our taxi from Palma airport took only 10-15 mins max and cost 25 euros, not sure what route the previous reviewer took!) and a good standard of accommodation. The hotel is away from it all and I would say if you were staying any length of time you would need a car but for four days of doing nothing as we wanted it really wasn't necessary. We were not disappointed we had a lovely break. Staying with our 2 children we opted for an hotel room with 2 queen beds it was overlooking the pool and well appointed. Every member of staff we encountered was friendly, helpful and polite from reception to maid to barman to waiter all were excellent. The pool areas were pleasant and very well maintained. We ate in the main restaurant which has themed buffet evenings quite pricey at 37 euros per head but children up to 4 were free and from 5-12 were 50% and the selection was vast and the quality excellent. The breakfast buffet was also fantastic the choice was immense. We also ate from the bar menu which was very nice. We did try the Clubhouse restaurant as recommended by other reviews but this was the only part we didn't like, we felt it had a bit of a cafeteria feel maybe just a little too informal for our liking and the food was not as good. Food from the poolside snackbar was fine too.Yes as others have mentioned the drinks at this hotel can be a touch expensive but we were prepared for this and for a short break we didn't mind too much. There were loads of facilities that we didn't even get round to using in the spa as we were too busy enjoying the sun but for the kids there's a playground, tabletennis, tablefootball, pool table, giant chess and bike hire dotted around here and there. All in all I cannot fault this hotel and we would definitely return for a similar shortbreak in the future.
Great Resort
from Swanningaround
The resort comprises of a hotel and many timeshare town houses. The hotel has 1 restaurant where you can sit outside and it has themed nights with entertainment. The other restaurant serves fast food and is not really suitable. The situation of the resort means it is a long taxi ride (30 minutes) away from Palma. But the hotel does provide shuttle buses. Llucmajor, which is the closest town is very quiet and not really worth visiting. This means it is probably best to hire a car, which can be done from the hotel. The hotel is lovely and clean and very comfortable. The bar is good and the swimming pools and leisure complex are wonderful. There is a wide range of beauty treatments. There are also many attactivities arranged by the hotel which are worth taking part in. I chose this resort because of the golf course, which was well maintained and of quite good quality. I would recommend the hotel, food and environment.

I was recently in Mallorca for a golfing holiday. I would urge anyone else doing this to stay away from Son Antem. It is quite possibly the worst cared for and least imaginative golf course I have played. Every hole looked the same and the whole course from 1st tee to 18th... more
