Sunrise Hotel is a very clean and...
8 / 10
Aug 2008, Mr P Thompson

Sunrise Hotel is a very clean and spacious hotel. It's set on top of a hill with all rooms having a nice view of the Aegean sea.he pool is very nice and kept very clean as are the surrounding areas. The gym and sauna are payable but really not worth using. the breakfast is continental which does'nt vary other than differently cooked eggs. Room air con is free, there was a fridge and one ring cooker in our room. The room was cleaned every day, with new towels. There are a lot of steps if you get a room at the top of the complex, so not good for those with walking difficulties.
The hotel runs a free shuttle bus into molivos which is a 20-30min walk some up hill, but the bus timetable was not very good, only used twice, 9.30pm & 11.30pm.
Molivos is lovely at night with it's lit up castle and habour front taverna's. Only a couple of mini markets and there 20-30min from hotel.
sometimes can be very windy & we were unable too sit on the balcony at night due to the strong wind.
Not really anything to see on the island, we hired a car for 2days, 80euro, and it's a lot of driving up and down mountains and a long way between resorts.

My partner and I visited Molyvos last summer and are looking forward to going back this summer.
We arrived at the Sunrise Hotel after a long coach journey ( 2 1/2 hours), however this was completely worth it when we arrived in the beautiful town. The hotel staff were more then friendly and always willing to help. The hotel itself was very clean, well presented, in a prime location with breath taking views. The layout of the rooms meant they were quite private and quiet, cleaned daily, with welcoming decor and great facilities. The food at breakfast was of a good standard and gave a wide range of traditional greek food. The bar in the evening was a place everyone wanted to be, but also somewhere you could go for a quiet drink. If there was a themed night which was more eventful, it by no means was too loud or kept any other guests awake.
The hotel had a pool and play areas for young children. The pool was in very good condition, clean and safe. The pool side bar, where people often ate at lunchtime, was lovely and welcoming, served great food and ice cold beers!
The town itself was buzzing yet traditional. The hotel runs a shuttle bus service to and from town at various times of the day. The castle is beautiful and a must see place. The shops are cheap, there are a couple of bars, loads of restaraunts, which all had amazing fresh Greek food ( we went to almost every one in the town!!). The beach is very clean and runs along part of the towns coast, oppostite end to the port. The neighbouring towns are also beautiful and cheap to get to by taxi, only 4 euros.
Overall the holiday was the best one we have ever been on and plan on going there many times in the future, you can't complain about any element of it.

Where to begin?.. From the moment we landed in Lesvos, the feeling and atmosphere of the island was good.
Arriving at the "Sun Rise Hotel" we were greeted by reception and promptly shown to our room. Great room, excellent views out across the sea, add to that we had the sight of dolphins most mornings/evenings in the bay feeding ( you have to be up early to see this).
The staff at the hotel, from the domestic staff upwards, were fantastic and made our stay enjoyable. The hotel is 20 yrs old and is being renovated this winter, and as magnificent as it is now, it does need some work. Please do not be put off by this, as it is by far the best in Molivos. Its location is about 20 mins walk from the small harbour town of Molivos itself, (4 euro by taxi ), pretty little place with plenty of Taverna's, the 'Captains Table' was as we found somewhat over rated, as ever, where the locals dine, then that’s the place to go.
Molly's Bar, is very small but what a charming little place to have a drink overlooking the harbour. Close by Molivos, and a short inexpensive trip by local bus, are the beaches of Petra and Anaxos, they are ok, but be warned.....bl##dy freezing.
Car hire a must and in Molivos I strongly recommend "Best Car Hire", great service. We found the best beaches were away from Molivos, Skala Kallonis, was fantastic, in the Gulf of Kalloni, its warm, calm and ideal for young children, as the waters are not deep at all. You are served by the Taverna's directly to your parasol, most beaches charge 6/7 euro for the parasols, here there is no charge. Buy a map and have a good tour of the island, if you do not mind heights, there are some brilliant views to witness and photograph.
This was by far the best of the Greek islands we have visited, quiet, certainly not commercialized, ideal for the more mature and those seeking peace, not suited for those seeking night club atmosphere etc, it just does not happen here.
All in all it’s just a great island to relax and enjoy the culture. We never make point of revisiting a hotel or island for that matter, but having experienced the Sun Rise Hotel and Lesvos, we may be forced to change our minds.
The airport in and out was well organised, however keep your trunks handy on the outbound, as there is ample time for a swim in the time before the flight, the sea is meters from the main terminal building!
Our only gripe of the holiday was the aircraft used by First Choice, Airbus 320, cramped and uncomfortable seating, however a small price to pay for an excellent holiday.

May 2003, Mrs L Shelton

We have now been to the Sunrise Hotel twice, the first time we went in 2002. We have never been to the same place twice and vowed never to because there are so many places in the world to visit. In 2004 I celebrated my 40th birthday and decided that because we were so impressed with the Sunrise the previous year, we would break with our rules and would celebrate there.
I have to say we were equally impressed. Well done Sunrise and its staff - 10 out of 10.
