We arrived at callao garden about 3 weeks ago i would advise no-one to go there. we got charged for the T.V which i was not pleased about but tryed to forgot about it as it was my holiday. we went in our room and opend the kitchen draw and it feel into my hand i wasnt pleased i tryed to put food and drink eg.milk in my fridge but the fridge was not shuting properly so the milk went of this was only day 2 of my holiday out of 14.the amount of steps you had to walk down was unreal i looked up at the pool side and it looked nice and it was untill i got it and noticed that half the tiles were misssing NOT IMPRESSED. by day 5 i wanted to go home. the food was not fit for a dog. if your looking to go on a diet for the full 2 weeks then nock your self out. breakfast whch it got up 5 times for was always cold at the finish i didnt bother any more. my travel agent said this was a new hotel and guess what they were wrong it had been refurnished the hotel had been round for a long time. abouit 15-20 min taxi drive to go where people actually are. the callao garden was on a hill in the middle of no-where a few pubs and resturants and other stuff but thats it. and to top it all of i thought i was staying in a hotel not a pub. lock down i like to call it. they would shut the gates at night so we couldnt get out , forceing us to stay in the hotel and do nothing at all because they was no entertainment not even in the day so if you are planning on bring kids or teenagers dDONT DO IT if your planning on coming to the callao garden at all , DONT DO IT!!!!
lovely and quiet
from NorthWalesPeeler
the callao gardens are fantastic. it's set in a quiet location in a residential area of callao salveje. The staff are brilliant and nothing is to much trouble (veronica and andrea). the entertainment is very low key, although manole the entertainment chief is excellent and really friendly! (It's no joke!!!!!) the hotel has multi-nation guests ranging from british to french to russian, all very friendly. the down side to this hotel is the food, we stayed all inclusive and the breakfast was mostly always cold, the lunch snack menu was limited, and the tea buffet was....... well....... salady!!!!!!!! great if your dieting!!!! Oh and the numerous steps that surround the hotel that need climbing to either get to the pools or the reception. we had 111 in total and that was every day for 7 days!!!!! the pools are great but there are a few tiles missing inside the pool which you have to be careful with or u'll cut your feet to bits, but it didn't seem to bother any one. i would recomend this hotel to anyone looking for a nice quiet relaxing holiday, however if your looking for a break with a pool scene or mad nightlife then this hotel is not for you. Can't wait to go back next year!!!!!
Dirty

We travelled to Callao Garden through RCI and usually their apartments are ok. This was was awful. My grandparents are disabled and they put us on the top floor and refused to move us, the apartment was filthy, absolutely disgusting, towels and bedlinen changed once per week...plug sockets hanging off walls and kitchen cupboard doors were falling off in our hands! honestly it was shocking. the whole complex has too many steps to get anywhere. on the plus side the pools are nice and the food at the bbq was lovely. i tried to be positive about our horrendous holiday... last straw wa when my grandad lost his passport and the receptionist laughed when i asked for her help, luckily callao salvaje is a lovely place full of lovely english ex-pats so they helped a lot. Callao Salvaje is lovely, Callao Garden Apartments are not! We have also stayed at the tropical park which is next door but a world away, totally lovely!
Terrace with sunset ...
from traveller_NP
In a Canarian coast often defigurated by concrete, this residence is very agreable and friendly. It consists in apartments with 1 bedroom, and a large terrace. Ours was located on top floor and offered a beautiful view on the sea with every night the spectacle of sunset on the Gomera Island. Not less than 4 swimming pools at different levels (but don't count on bathing in the sea, no real beach). The restaurants were not not extraordinary, but you can eat in our kitchenette. The residence would deserve some re-painting here and there, but it is overall OK. People at front office helpful and nice. The center of town, down on the sea, is a few hundred meters from the residence. Speaking of the island, don't stay on the coast, unless you just want to rest and improve your tan. But the inside of the island is beautiful, with varied wild lanscapes, from "barrancos" down to the sea to walks around the volcano (Teide, more than 3700 meters high). Really worth spending a few hours walking here and there.
Better than expected

Returned on 19 Jan 07 from a week at Callao Garden. Although the complex is being refurbished, and our apartment still had to be done, I can say that the apartment was clean and above expectation. We had a ground floor apartment because one of our friends has a disability. Although the complex is on a hillside this was not too inconvenient as we all took turns in pushing the wheelchair. On site parking is a problem - there isn't any - although we did manage to park outside the apartment because of the blue disabled badge. We had some very nice meals in the evening in the restaurant on the complex and also went down to the little village - can confirm that Bonnie's tea shop was lovely - we also liked the Italian restaurant on the corner facing the sea. Would love to visit again.
very relaxing

we have just returned from callao garden in tenerife.our 2 bedroomed apartment was on the ground floor and very spacious.everything was very clean and tidy.the kitchen was fully equipped.you have to put one euro in to use the tv lasts about 40 minutes.but not a problem as we didnt come on holiday to watch corrie or eastenders.you receive sky news eurosport and true movies.one tip would be to leave the water heater on in the kitchen all the time as it can run cold after a couple of showers.hotel staff very friendly and helpful.bus stop right outside takes you to las americas and los cristianos about two euros each.all restaurants in callao salveje have good food and service.if you want a lovely cup of tea and scones go to bonnies tea rooms in callao salveje.had a great time would return again next week if i could but work beckons.....
Calloa Garden Apartments, great for a relaxing break
from tracyangell1311
Had a lovely relaxing week here at Easter. Really quiet, but thats what we wanted. Choice of 3 nice pools + snackbar which were good value. Staff were friendly and helpful. Apartment was clean and large enough for two adults and two children. The only problem that we had was that the hot water kept running out. Paying for the T.V.was abit of a pain but kept my daughter amused one rainy afternoon. Great if you just want to relax around the pool for a week, our children aged 14 and 8 really enjoyed themselves. Not ideal if you want entertainment and kids clubs, but this suited us. Near enough to larger resorts if you want some nightlfe. We would go back. Booked through Travel Gems who also arranged our flights. We booked a cab to take us to the resort to save time , there was along queue at the taxi rank, so worth considering.
Trashy resort, badly managed
from A TripAdvisor Member
A resort that failed to live up to its own publicity, by a very long way. My family and a friend's family went to the resort at the end of June 2006. We had made the booking in January 2006. There were 11 of us in the party; 4 adults, 3 teenagers and 4 children. We were torn between Tropical Park and Callao Gardens, but chose the latter, because it boasted better entertainment. The reverse was true. There was no daytime entertainment whatsoever. At night the only available activity on site was the lower restaurant; the Lanzarote. Food was limited, but good. As a party of 11 we filled the place and got exclusive service on two occasions. The resort is set on a hill, with the main reception and pedestrian access at the top of the site. The local amenities are closer to the bottom of the site. There are plenty of good restaurants within ten minutes work, provided you can exit through the lower "service" gates. There were two of these, but there was no rhyme or reason as to when they were open or closed. It was noted by my friends that these gates were locked early evening to force guests to "stay on site", but for what I don't know, there was no entertainment other than my daughters doing an impromptu concert on the outdoor stage to the delight of other guests in apartments overlooking the stage. I noted another party of guests were not phased by the locked gates and made their own pedestrian entrance through a link fence one evening. Where the resort really failed was in the level of disrepair and attitude of management to the problems identified. There were many incidents we suffered that built over the first week into anger and frustration. I recall two more serious issues. Firstly, one of my daughters badly graized her ankle on the exit steps in the main pool. The resort was slow to react to the danger. Only when I physically took the on site maintenance person down to the pool and point out which steps needed repair did anything happen. The repair effected was shody and within three days my daughters presented me with the little tiles used to repair the step, after finding them at the bottom of the pool. Secondly, in the early evening one day, when the snack bar was shut, my daughters purchased drinks from a vending machine near the same pool. Although some were already drunk, I noticed with shock ALL the bottles were past their sell by dates. Not just by days, but months. I challenged the resort manager who was at pains to blame the vending contractor and stated the on-site shop was aware of self-lifes. The next day I visited the shop, surprisingly it was open. At most it was open 2 to 3 hours spread over the day and on some days not at all. Without looking I found a number of soft drinks bottles also past their sell by dates. On another visit I found yougats more than two weeks past their sell by date. I addressed my findings to the resort manager who became overly defensive and on one occasion slipped out through the external door to his office rather than face me. The surrounding area is quiet, with plenty of restaurants. I would recommend staying at the Tropical Park resort just down the road. There is live entertainment day and evening. There are no silly gate closing policies. The restaurant has a wide choice of meals. The external appearance is better, the pools are cleaner, with better barefoot surfaces around the pools.
Nice Hotel

We stayed at the Callao Gardens for a week May 2006, whilst I throughly enjoyed my stay at this resort. We had a number of problems and issues with the resort: The apartment desperately needed a coat of paint basically a bit of TLC. We had to pay to view the television - whilst this wasn't too much of a problem the machine kept eating the money once it had been switched off - a telephone call to reception and the set was replaced. We also purchased milk etc and the fridge kept opening, when we realised this everything had gone off - another telephone call and this was replaced. I was disappointed that the resorts restaurant was not open at all during the stay, and would have thought that by the middle of May this would be open. The view from our apartment was excellent and we had the sun on it from first thing in the morning until last thing at night. One last little moan - if you need to open a tin of baked beans etc - remember to bring your own Can opener - by the end of the week we still hadn't managed to open a tin of potatoes that we bought!
would not advise anyone to go there

Just back from a fortnight in callao gardens (self catering) callao salvaje in tenerife. we will not be returning there again. The apartment could have done with a good clean the fan in the lounge was thick with dust and grease, the formica at the side of the sink unit had collapsed allowing water and grease to collecct and become a breeding ground for any number of diseases. We were informed before we went that there was a a charge for water and electricity which we expected. We were not told that there was a charge for T.V. this was supposed to cost 1 euro for 1 hour, the most we ever got when the system opperated was 40 minutes. after 12 days and numerous visits by a so called technician to correct the fault the manager had the money eating apperatus disconected allowing us 2 days free viewing. the brochure for callao gardens states that included in the package is microwave (in some units) live entertainment neither of the facilities were available. the complex had two restaurants only one that served snacks was open the other remained closed through out the holiday. From day one the cooker in the apartment never worked properly operating knobs failed to work correctly. The four operating knobs of the hob continually came off the oven knob when we finally got it to work would not let us switch the oven off after five visits by the same tv technician to correct these faults the whole oven unit had to be removed from the kitchen units and be replaced,.The resort of Callao Salvaje is a lovely place and if we can find where to stay other than Callao gardens we will go back there for a month in November. We had lovely food and enterainment in Beckhams Bar and the chinese restaurant is well worth a visit.
