The hotel was well kept but in a very quiet area of Playa Blanca. We walked into town and beach but it took a good half hour (we did not know or were told about the back gate pass) and I refuse to believe anyone can do it in ten minutes. It takes the shuttle bus five minutes at 25 mph.
The food was always lukewarm and although there was quite a variety it soon became boring. A good tip is to heat your food up in the microwave oven. Drinks were plentiful and a good variety although the house wine on offer was only drinkable with a dash of sprite.
The grounds were beautiful and the rooms were large and comfortable and clean
The bars also ok although on our last night they ran out of vodka!
The local animation team were very friendly however their shows were awful, scouts could do better. The outside entertainers were fairly good. But evening entertainment only available 21.00 to 22.00, there was much more entertainment next door in the Sun Tropical. Our brochure (Portland direct) was misleading stating 4 pools instead of five, heated when they were not, 200 metres from beach instead of 2000 metres, 2 lifts when there are at least 6.
All in all we and a number of other visitors will not be returning here.

" I went to Lanzarote with my boyfriend... "

I went to Lanzarote with my boyfriend on an all inclusive basis for a week and we had a fantastic time. The hotel was welcoming and spotless, we had a maid service 5 times a week. Our room was huge, we had a 2 bed bedroom and a lounge/dining/kitchen area with a balcony over looking the pool.
The hotel is a 10 minute walk from the Playa Dorada beach, I recommend a back gate pass available from reception, so you can go out the back towards the town and beach. On the way through the back, you walk through the huge gardens, they were beautiful and well maintained.
The restaurant was clean, and the food was good, there was a lot of variety, mainly pasta and rice dishes with a good variety of meats and fish and you could help yourselves to drinks, beer and wine on tap which was nice. They catered well for children too having their own menu, although the parents did dive in to fish fingers and chips too.
The hotel shop was only open from 10-1.30pm, although a quick walk to the neighbouring hotel solved that problem. The pools were quiet, we stayed around the large pool, but there were four smaller pools around each section of apartments. The main pool had a life guard all day, so great for children and we always were able to get a sun lounger which were free!
We went on two excursions with Thomson, the Southern Sights tour which was amazing, we got to see the national park of Timanfaya, and have a camel ride along the volcanoes and went to a vineyard to taste the local wine. The tour guide was brilliant, he spoke fluent english and had a laugh with us. We also went to see the sand dunes of Fueteventura which included the ferry ride, a trip to the sand dunes and lunch included, we then lounged on the beach, the crystal clear waters were amazing. The prices of the excursions were very reasonable, both ours were under 50 euros which was great, and they were very well organised. The Thomson 24 hour helpline was brilliant, you could make an appointment with the rep and they will make the effort to come and see you.
Overall our holiday was very relaxing, chilled out and very hot. Be careful with the sun cream, it was a little windy so we didn't realise we were getting sunburnt! It was great for couples and families. Its an up and coming resort, so not too englishified, although there may be some building work going on its not noisy or an eye sore.

We arrived at about 9.30pm (30 min taxi journey costing 40 euros) and the reception area was deserted. The receptionist quickly checked us in and we went to our room.
Nice large room with separate bedroom and good cooking facilities if you were self catering. Room was clean with fresh bedding and towels. We were situated towards the end of the complex in the Tenerife block around a lovely pool.
The main pool was very quiet and had a bar where you could get a drink. The pool was also heated which was a pleasant surprise.
The whole comple was like a ghost town which we found very strange. We managed to track down a bar in the Dome which is a big entertainment area but that was only open twice during the week. The other evenings there was just a small bar open with little entertainment going on, this was a bit disappointing.
The food was okay. Not a great deal of choice but always something to eat. Fish, meat, good choice of salads, fruit, cakes, ice-cream etc, the staff work very hard and were friendly on the whole.
The location is okay, it's a good 20 minute walk into Playa Blanca but fairly flat walking.
Sun Island obviously has a contract with a Senior Spanish travel company as about 90% of the people staying there were elderly. There was only a handful of families/couples. Which is, I suspect why the entertainment was so poor.
We had a very relaxed holiday and especially enjoyed our days around the peaceful main pool, but if you're looking for a hotel with loads going on I would choose somewhere else.
