Very disappointed in holiday. At first a wonderful service. The apartment is well located. There was work going on directly beneath, drilling / banging all day so we had to vacate each day. The washing machine was left dirty. The kitchen area very cramped and unsafe. The... more

In Spain the Carabeo is the best hotel we have stayed in. We have stayed there 5 times and are going again in July/August of this year. The staff are very friendly. Their restaraunt "34" is excellent and always extremely busy. It is not cheap, but you get what you pay for in my humble opinion.

EXCELLENT HOLIDAY
We stayed at the Hotel carabeo for a week in April 07 and it is one of the best holidays ever the staff could not have been more helpful and friendly The restaurant we found was the best in nerja the rooms spotless and stunning we are going back in Sept for two weeks and cannot wait
Heaven!
We have just returned from a 5 night stay at the Hotel Carabeo.....we loved every minute and would highly recommend this delightful small, family run hotel. We reserved a garden patio room in the mountainside building of the hotel which we found to be beautifully furnished and well equipped. It opened out onto a huge private patio and large garden which my sister and I had mainly to ourselves as a private sunbathing/early evening aperitif venue! The hotel location is idyllic with stunning views from the terrace of the main hotel building out over the sea. We found the owners very pleasant and helpful throughout our stay. The restaurant is excellent and, having fully explored Nerja, it is obviously the best restaurant in town. The continental breakfast was fine, although a little limited on choice. There is a small swimming pool and delightful sunbathing terrace with sufficient sunbeds to accommodate all guests without the usual undignified early morning scramble! The hotel provides pool towels so no need to take your own unless you wish to lie on the beach. The hotel is located in the old part of Nerja town which still retains lots of character with lots of Spanish holidaymakers as well as other, mainly British, visitors. In all, a gem of a hotel for anyone wanting a quiet restful, holiday.
Great little Hotel
We stayed her for 3 nights in June, while the rest of our group stayed in the Hotel Balcon de Europa & I definitely think we made the better choice. The hotel is situated down a lovely Spanish street that is quiet at night. Each room is decorated differently & to a high standard. We were in the mountainside building which had a nice garden at the back in which to sit out in. The breakfast is wonderful with a good choice, the Spanish tortilla is delicious. The swimming pool is lovely & is really preatty at night. They good do with a bit more room around the swimming pool, however as it is a small hotel you shouldnt have a problem getting a sunbed. I would also recommend eating in the restaurant which is really good (especially as hotel guests get 10% off) & the views at the end of the garden our beautiful.
What a Gem
Hotel Carabeo is right at ocean front with great ocean views, a lovely pool and no more than a 5 min walk from all major beaches and Balcon Europa. The rooms are tastefully decorated in a British style. There are all the comforts you need -- in room safe, small refrigerator, good AC, down comforters, complimentary water bottles, toileteries etc. The breakfast is very sumptous and the sitting areas classy. Front desk is helpful and friendly -- just disregard their poor opinion of the Indian restaurants in the vicinity; they are both pretty good Finally you can park your car free in an open parking lot and walk through an alley to the hotel in 2 min.
Highly recommended beautiful little hotel
We stayed the first night of our holiday at Carabeo. We liked it so much that we cut our stay short at the villa we had rented and stayed the last night too. The staff were extremely helpful and welcoming with Maggi sending very clear directions. The room on the first night Torrecilla was lovely with a 'shabby chiq' feel and we payed a small fee for breakfast in bed which was a real treat. The last night we stayed in Allela which was slightly larger with patio and contemporary furnishings. While not the cheapest of hotels, the surroundings i.e. beautiful garden, lovely compact pool, breakfast and dining area along with the warm welcome made it very worthwhile. Highly recommended if you like something a little different with real character.
Boutique at it's best - Hotel or Restaurant??
We stayed at the Hotel Carabeo for 6 nights in June - we reserved a garden patio room in the mountainside building section of the hotel. First impressions are of ultimate 'boutique' style throughout - the hotel room being spacious with a huge private patio leading onto a secluded garden. The hotel location is idyllic with unrivalled, very private views overlooking the sea - very romantic. The restaurant is top notch and, having fully explored Nerja during our stay it is obvious that this is proabably the best restaurant in Nerja - service impeccable in the restaurant. Breakfast is OK but quite bland with no variation from day to day. Only average comment is towards the reception / service - not very helpful at all, together with the noise both late at night and early morning - the staff blatently disregard any privacy through constant noise at these times - shame! Overall, very enjoyable, Nerja town is full of character and typically local Spanish with a rocky coastline full of secluded sandy coves. Regards the hotel, I would recommend it but make sure you stay in one of sea view rooms located in the main building, without fail!
Nice hotel - but website and some reviews here flatter
Just stayed at this hotel and booked after seeing the number 1 tripadvisor rating and the many positive reivews. This is a very nice characterful hotel, in a great location though some rooms are clearly much better than others - so make sure you know what you're getting to avoid disappointment. We booked a double room with a kingsize bed - disappointingly both room and bed were quite small and cramped. Bathroom could also do with a re-fit. Some rooms back onto the street which can be pretty noisy both at night and first thing in the morning.G ood breakfast & restaurant very popular.
The perfect place to stay
We spent four nights at this hotel last week. Picked it based upon the reviews here and were not disappointed. Outside appearances are deceptive, but inside it's like a posh boutique hotel but without the stuffiness. Everyone was very welcoming, everywhere was very clean, and the restaurant food was fantastic. Perfect location, very close to the centre but just far enough away to be quieter. Well worth a return visit.
awesome nerja hotel
We stayed here the last week of August in 2006 and it was unbelieveable! We were in room #14 which had this huge balcony overlooking the sea. There is a little sitting area outside the bedroom. The bed itself was quite comfortable and the bathroom was large. The airconditioning worked really well. Breakfast was included in the price and was a buffet with ham, cheese, croissants and pastries, coffee/juice and muesli. The location was excellent; only 5 minutes from the town centre. The beaches are within 10-15 minute walks. It is highly romantic (we were there for our honeymoon). The staff (British, the place is run by a young duo Carolina and Lucan) was very friendly. There is a very small and I'd say claustrophobic exercise room across the street at the other part of Hotel Carabeo (away from the beach) which I'd go to when desperate (I lasted about 10 minutes on the treadmill). There is also free internet access there; just ask the receptionist for the key. We had never been to Nerja before and did a fairly good job of walking around town and checking out other hotels for fun. We were pleased with our choice and will return to this hotel when we visit Nerja again.
Carabeao Fabulous
Stayed at Carabeao August 2006 and had a wonderful experience. We stayed in the Penthouse which was lovely but all of the rooms in the hotel and apartments opposite were of very high quality. Continental breakfast was very good and the evening meals and the setting were superb. During our stay all of the staff were great and in particular Maggie and Jose who really looked after us. This hotel was really peaceful and just like 'stepping back in time' Highly recommended. Alan and Margaret Hodgson (Newcastle upon Tyne)
