Elegant, but not perfect
This is a beautiul hotel, sited in a magnificent building full of stylish antiques and traditional furnishings with wood floors throughout. It's a sizeable Canarian style manor house with interior courtyards and many unexpected corners for relaxing. The rooms are of a very high standard and ours, which was a 'Superior Double", was large and had a direct view over the harbour to Tenerife. The grounds are spacious and nicely designed, with palm trees, views over the sea and an excellent pool - which was rather cold in January, despite the warm... more
amazing place
An absolutely wonderful hotel. Can definately recomend it I would stay here again. Wonderful location and beautiful old medieval style decoration. Can recomend the suite with sea view, it has amazing views of the bay, Tenerife and El Teide. Was expensive but well worth it. Can also recomend the restaurant. The only downside is there is no easy access to the rooms and a lot of walking when you are 5 months pregnant and with a suitcase!
Shangri La
We arrived at La Gomera airport from Tenerife Norte, there are 2 flights a day. The airport is 750 feet up on the edge of a sheer drop into the sea which was very exciting as there was a cross wind. The taxi to San Sebastian de la Gomera and the Parador takes about 45 minutes over mountain roads with new tunnels and fresh tarmac. The cost is 35e. However this journey is not for the faint hearted as the road is not wide and the drops in places are over 1000 feet. The hotel is very well situated on top of a hill and has a cool and friendly... more
Great hotel in imperfect location
Spent four nights at this hotel in March 2006 and had a great time. The rooms and gardens are beautiful, and as the hotel's up on top of the cliffs there are great views over the port and San Sebastian. We had previously stayed at the Parador de Canadas del Teide on Tenerife, which was a bit disappointing, but this parador is in a whole different league. The guests were mostly middle aged couples - not many young people about. The restaurant is quite formal and the food quite fussy, but done well. I would rather have been... more
Just lovely
We had read reviews complaining that the Parador lacked luxury facilities and was rustic and uncomfortable, and although young clubbers will find this true, we could not disagree more. The hotel is very tasteful, traditional, gentle and very comfortable. Its position on top of a cliff overlooking the harbour is quite stunning. The hotel gardens are exceptionally beautiful and a delight to sit in and the whole island could be the original Eden. The hotel swimming pool is a lovely place to relax and the hotel restaurant serves good food with... more
Wonderful hotel.
Lovely hotel. Spacious, clean rooms and beautiful gardens with lots of quiet seating areas. Friendly staff, although they speak very little English, so best to learn a few Spanish words as it is very much appreciated. Excellent food though quite pricey. Food much cheaper down in the port and very good too. Quite a hike up to the Parador, but worth it for the view.
Fantastic Hotel with stunning views
We travelled from Tenerife on the 26th Apr for our Honeymoon. Ferry crossing very easy and taxi's plentiful - we also hired a car for 4 days from the port. We were booked in to this parador for 9nights and also the one on La Palma for 4 nights. First impressions were how rugged the island was and we weren't disappointed. The hotel was perched on top of cliff overlooking the harbour and town. It was a fair walk but worth it when you got to the top. The hotel is not huge, and the clientle seemed mainly spanish/north europeans. A good mixture... more
Room with a view
Delightful hotel perched on a cliff above the main town on La Gomera with exotic views over the sea to Mt Teide on Tenerife. Hotel is built in local Canary-style (although the building is actually modern) and has a warm and welcoming feeling. Rooms are spacious and comfortable and most have views out to sea or over the lovely gardens. Excellent restaurant serving local specialities (including delicious watercress soup). Not many other good quality places to stay on La Gomera, but having visited the other main hotel, Jardin Tecina, this... more
What a lovely hotel
Stayed here for 7 nights from 20th April 2004. Whilst the hotel looks old style, it has in fact only been built for 30 years, and was extended/refurbished in 1986 and again in 2003. Set on a cliff overlooking the harbour, and depending upon your room, with lovely views over the island, harbour, or across to Tenerife and Mount Teide, the whole is attractively furnished in an antique Spanish style, and very spacious. A few rooms' balconies only look onto an internal courtyard, though. The food was very good mixture of contemporary and... more
